It costs around 15โฌ in France
It was the cheapest I found if I remember
Found a bit cheaper
And this one has a light for every port on the front
Lol
Should be good enough I think
Yeah
Now the hard part
Buying it now or waiting for my birthday for my friends to buy me one
hey @warped mountain
you want that DLink 5port?
I can get you a $15 amazon card on me
Wut
I'm gonna buy it myself
I need it for the next university year
I'll be able to store my Git projects locally
Also storing a shit ton of university assignement/projects on my local server
So syncing between my desktop and my laptop will be easier
Ah, just wondering cause you said you were waiting for your friends to buy you one. ๐
Yup I'm a cheap bastard
Always going on the cheap and trying to save money on everything
So if my friends can gift me that 15โฌ switch, that's a great thing for me
Coming next week to a convention in Baltimore near you:
I think we're pretty set to light the place up with as much WiFi as we need.
Well...it could if I hooked up the Cancer Stickโข
The instructions said to not turn it on within 30 feet of people. We were used to consumer gear getting overly cautious with the warnings. We now heed those warnings.
ayy i use most of this hardware on a daily basis
Lmao the cancerstick ๐
Same, Onyx, at my old job in Texas
@gentle siren ooh nice
"Nasdaq recently informed customers that the high humidity caused by the recent heatwave in the New York City area was slowing down radio transmissions between three New Jersey data centres, leading to slower trading. Transmission between Nasdaqโs facility in Carteret to the New York Stock Exchange data centre in Mahwah was 8ms longer, and it was 2ms longer to the Cboe Global Marketโs exchange in Secaucus."
This is why I don't work for traders
They rage when it's 0.5ms off
Global warming is a hoax
Global warming is fake the earth naturally heats up and cools down that is how we got out of the ice age the earth will naturally start to cool down after it heats up
Gonna buy the switch I shown earlier and 2 3m ethernet cable today
Okay
A self gift for suceeding in studies
Good for you
I'm going to buy myself a 48 port managed switch in @warped mountain 's honor
So many blinkies
Are you even serious ? Lol
@gentle siren Seen Mikrotik's netmetal with 3000mw? ๐
Yeah! I actually love Miktotik gear
We went Ubiquiti in Texas because I wanted to be able to hand it off to the customer and give them control with UNMS
๐ ๐
One does not mess around with the Cancer Stickโข
The โข is important
In norway the maximum allowed sender strenght is 250mw erp
So the 3000mw one got classified as military equipment over here ๐
lol
Meanwhile, in the US, we had a gig where we didn't have a fiber repeater and wanted to send an RTMP stream out to a poolside TV for a gig
So we went with Litebeams instead. It's the only time that I've ever seen them limit down
At least she is wearing a bikini?
Would be better if she didn't have one
lol
You do say that until u see the grandma squad
That shit can't be unseen
Switch drawer
๐
lol
Nice
Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive Glitches out
At the event next week, we're going to have: 1x UBNT USG-PRO-4, 1x UBNT USG-XG-8, 1x, UBNT ERPro-8, 1x Mikrotik CCR1036-8G-2S+
Nice!
Because overkill in routing? Never.
๐
CCR1016 here

Just threw up some pics of my messy setup atm
messy indeed
It works tho
Switch and network cable bought
That's the important thing ๐
Getting them next week
No prime?
I'll finally be able to run my own liltle company from my bedroom
Nope
I nearly never buy on Amazon
I don't have amazon...
I've never used AliExpress
Hell, a mini Display Port to VGA adapter would costs at least 15โฌ in France because only sold by Apple
I found one for 3โฌ on ali express
Got both the watch and the strap on aliexpress
Wow looks nice
Total was like under 80 EUR
Wow nice
Lasts almost a week if you are a bit smart
Creating a backup... https://img.linusdrop.tips/5162f6e6.png
Fun fact on AirFibers: Unless they're perfectly aligned...you get about 1/2 of what they're capable of.
80EUR is what a decent steak dinner costs here so
Yeah, sadly no 10Gbe yet
why
you have a domain and a webserver, use that
Meh, then I actually have to keep paying for that VPS ๐
Better to let imgur take the load
At least I direct link them, I can turn that off for you ๐
Lol
img.blazeit.no does sound good tho
Yeah ๐
ram disk
I'm re running everything with 4 threads
Holy $h!t
10Gb networking wouldn't be enough x)
Cute anime girl on the software, +10% performance
@warped mountain lol
Still can't smoke my RAMDisk
You SSD peasant
RAMDisk Master Race
Also, why reading from RAM is slower than writing in it ?
Sounds fishy to me
your write is crazy
wait
you changed threads
LOL
ez mate
@warped mountain
The reason the score is higher is because you changed threads
Threads are the number of simultaneous requests
I know
Too slow
Now time to disable my RAMdisk, and let chrome get it's deserved 32GB's of ram
Yeah xD
feelsbadman
Wish I had my intel NIC still plugged in
my old mobo only had realtek shite
got a quad nic for 10$
Nice
@rocky badge @vital badger Kids use realtek, boys use Intel and men use Red Hat
.lan ewwww
Oh.... RIP
I think I messed something up ๐ https://img.linusdrop.tips/9b43a19e.png
๐ Windows, top OS /s
I would tell my ISP they could go fuck themselves if they tried telling me I had to use their DNS
Still not smocking my 10GB/s ramdisk
Mine was faster tho ๐
But what disks are that @ancient vigil ?
NVMe drives or?
ramdisk?
what kind of drives then?
Well, they better be NVMe then lol
lol
Like 10 of them in raid0?
Nightmare if one fails lol
Raid 10 then?
Got a Samsung DC drive myself
It's like 2x writes per day for 5 years or smth
ridiculous
But I got the 800GB drives
Cuz fuck any SSD with less than 500GB ish pr disk
Don't have a usecase for SSD's in my servers yet tho
so rather run spinning rust
Ryois ... Why you sysadmin in #networking ?
Reeee don't post disk benchmarks in here
that feel when most of your viewers are not in canada and memory express buys ad spots
praise the sales person!
๐
LOL
@vital badger Its only ISP that has reasonable price, I have 10mbps download and 1 mbps upload, other one is charging $60 per month for that speed, while this one is $25. They allow PFSense routers and server hosting, I can add $20 additionally and get static IP and build custom DNS server if I want to
@vital badger and PFSense router
cause the current one is really shitty
500/100 fiber here is 40โฌ
@old vale where are you
Slovenia
Lucky
at least internet is good here. Cause everything else tech related is expensive af xd
Ha internet here is like 40โฌ a month for like 20-100
:/
But cas the company don't like me i get it for 23
400/20 Fibre is 40โฌ here, but you can't get a static ip, just business contracts can
I still find it funny how they limet the upload to what they do
Ye, maybe to nerf commercial use/hosting
Maybe
@waxen scroll Not anymore ๐
In France, fiber (to the home) 500/200 (at min, most of the time 900/300) at 50โฌ with Orange, dynamic IP (static IP is an option at 18โฌ/mo. and only available if you don't have a mobile plan linked to your internet plan)
And also, this includes TV (160 channels), phone (unlimited, to +100 destinations) and free fiber + router installation by their technicians.
If you understand a bit of french : https://boutique.orange.fr/internet/offres-fibre/jet
And yeah, we have TV over Internet with special receivers, included with the internet plan, which are compatible with UHD and HDR (even with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video) and you can have 2 receivers for free with the highest plan.
Same here, got an IPTV based android box
They just use a specific VLAN so u can pipe it thru ur own devices
24/month for 1 gbps
look at this OVERKILL print server i found

Hey guys I am looking for help with getting better performance out of my PfSense setup. I think I am down to needing to replace my nic, but before I went that route I though I would ask around about best performance setups. currently I am getting about 4 to 5 gig using ipref at home and I took the box to my work where they used some fancy testing equipment to test through put on fiber switches with about the same results. It always seems to only use about 25% of the CPU.
Ordering a router through a maybe-dodgy site cause it was ยฃ100 cheaper ๐
hope It all goes ok
Paid with paypal though so can get my money back worst case
@chrome hound 4 to 5 Gb/s doing what? What kind of NIC do you have?
Probably a 10Gigabit NIC or multiple Gb NICs
in the PfSense on Intel 560? dual port SPF+ the servers are Molex with one matching Intel dual port nic, my desktop is also running a Molex single port SPF+ with a X670-48x as my switch. in ipref I can get 9 ish gigs between two systems, so I am pretty sure its not the switch.
sorry they are the 540 Intel cards, which is why I was wondering if I needed to get a Chelsio I have seen those recommended, and netgate sells them as there supported card.
woah
I only have 300kB/s at home ..
I have adsl so Iโm sad
me too ๐ญ
Nbn soon tho
im tired of this "thing" http://www.speedtest.net/result/7486204938.png
and the "faster than 54% of IT" just shows how italy doesnt invest enough into new connections
๐
they are working on it, but its sooo slow
in america 9 mbps connections dont even exist
I get the same here in Aussie land
Iโm getting fibre at the end of this year tho
Our prime minister doesnโt give about our failed fibre internet
the main isp's here dont care too, there is a 3rd party company that is trying to cover all the houses with ftth (this company works with the power one so that they can use the existing conduits, substations etc to put fiber )
Our fibre company has just been literally ripping up paths to install it
When there are already phone lines in
underground or aerial
maybe the conduits were full of copper cables
Copper ๐
Ikr
mmmm copper
Its worth mobey
@hallow nimbus oof
Can run 40v through it
HFC is common here
Lol
HFC or maybe KFC
blobby where r u from
Floatplane
Ye
Gotta link discord to ltt forums
if i rip off all that copper crap, will they replace it with fiber ๐ ??
I linked it
ill give it a shot
like cut the cables as close to the conduit as possible and maybe fill it with expanding foam?
lol
when the rest of the world will have that
everyone here will have 100 mbps fttc
With 100 ping
I need fibre 1gbit up and down ๐
๐
With 2ms ping
mmm grounding cables
Grab that axe
eeee @hallow nimbus
And cut rhru the box
Go ahead
with -10 of ping
๐
Lol
you can predict the future
Lmao
hi isp, i'd like this thing thanks
Lol
all that fiber should be enough for me
Lol
not totally sure tho
Youโd get a lot of ping I reckon
whats that, a splitter?
It's a splitter yeah
Free jnternet
can i, hook myself up to that splitter ๐
Coax in, coax out to phone modem, Internet modem, and TV
Fibre sucks
noUUU
Oof

There will be a little old lady who only needs a phone and theyโll run out a fibre line and a modem
When sheโs dead?
Lol
I canโt type tonight
Lol
like when they were bullying me cause i had the i3 6100, then i got the i7 7700k and it broke after one week
This is how I will connect to fibre
Too much stuff
Our router is dsl not Ethernet
TheRE Is No FiBer
Itโs an extra box to connect
oh ok
LOL
Not premises
Hmm. I wonder if I can just have them route fiber directly to my router. Most enterprise drops I've used recently used LC connectors...
Hmm
you would need a fiber jack
Yeah, exactly. I'm thinking of having them skip a step.
Hmm @gentle siren
uu media converters
We have 7 ways to connect to nbn
lol
Holy dang dang
Is the server in Australia...
cover the ip
@chrome hound nice, never heard of that ISP. Is it like a local ISP?
well technically they are not open to the public for service, I work for them so I can get attached in
Ah, makes sense
if you have ftth but its only 100mbps, the problem for that could be the fiber rack in the street that is outdated right?
they just provide FTTH and then they have a reange of ISP they can delivery too
we have a lot of customers that only pay for 100mp
Ye
Or the ISP only allows you to have 100Mbps
Ye
its going to come down to the optics in use and the ONT
having FTTH doesn't mean automatic gigabit
It's just the way of getting a connection to your router
when I first moved into this house the ONT was an older allied that only have 100mb Optics
I upgraded to a Zone which let me move to 1g then when I got hired on at Utopia I upgraded to 10g
more NBN FAILS here https://youtu.be/Il2Uogep_ys im giving away bitcoins here http://bit.ly/freebitscoin Do not try this at home! National Broadband Network ...
Like DC3.0 can do gigabit down and 200Mbps up
all on the same fiber cable
But that doesn't mean ISPs will give you gigabit and 200Mbps
@chrome hound lol nice
When we were doing testing before the final install
well at this point..
And before we got the secondary line
top is the juniper, next purple is the my switch
ExtremeNetworks?
yeap
They're the only company I know of that makes purple switches
lol
Dell PowerEdge servers?
ive seen a purple packet shaper
my last blocker to having true 10g is figuring out how to get a PfSense router to perform at 10g speeds
Woah
@rocky badge just a couple ๐
those seems pumps
@chrome hound lol I know pfsense can handle 10 gigabit
Oh yeah, those are little ones
R710? And some 1u?
"little"
You should see our Toshiba
r640 for the 1u
Ah nice
the p1950 has since been removed
@gentle siren did you bring Cancer Stick โข ?
Didn't need it
;-;
@subtle glen There's our Toshiba.
700 horsepower, designed to move 15000 barrels of water/day
@rocky badge They let me keep the Cancer Stickโข after I was done with the job, though
guessing why
@gentle sirenWooooo
@rocky badge what kind of hardware was used in the PfSense your talking about?
This is the link I'm most proud of, though. Just under 40 Mb/s symmetric over 8.5 miles.
which intel nic?
On the other hand...my VPN speeds lol
you have 10 gb in your home network?
yea
ffs
hey I need it to play Leage of legends
i need to play mc with friends in my private server
X520-LR1 iirc
Now we're using Cisco
15/15 symnertical on Verizon with my VPN... I bet it's Verizon throttling me lol
so yea I am wondering my intel nic is the problem
๐
Hmm
at least i got 3 NIC in my pfsense

I think it's Verizon
It didn't give me a valid IP ;-;
@chrome hound hmm
Never seen this issue before...
Is pfsense running on dedicated hardware
Or is it in a vm
What nic
CPU Type Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Current: 4000 MHz, Max: 4001 MHz
8 CPUs: 1 package(s) x 4 core(s) x 2 hardware threads
AES-NI CPU Crypto: Yes (active)
Hardware crypto AES-CBC,AES-XTS,AES-GCM,AES-ICM
intel 540-dr2
I never expect to go over 10% CPU usage on my Ubiquiti UniFi Security Gateway XG.
I have 3 VLANs, only about a dozen firewall rules. and fewer than 30 clients.
I was using DA cables but I converted to all Fiber
iperf ?
is it possible there is a switch in the community edition?
Hmm searching X540-DR2 pfsense gets this
humm
@gentle siren didn't know toshiba makes motors btw
so that does kind of support my suspision of hte nic
Hmm
Oh yeah, we tried them for a bit after Westinghouse screwed us over because they spec'd the wrong lubricant and we ended burning up 3 of their pumps
Hmm, I think around $180k
Actually no idea. My job was to make them usable from across the internet
oh oke
And the hardest rule to get across to everyone was that there would be no PLCs connected directly to the internet
btw what was that setup for
We had them connected to our HMI, had those talk to the oil field server, have that go through a nice firewall, and only then would things hit the internet.
@rocky badge when I was first trying to see if the switch would support a full 10g I was using two of the intel 540's between two r710 and was hitting 9gb pretty solid
Was so hard to get across to everyone, especially Rockwell.
lol
so thats a pump for oil?
Oh, that was for a salt water disposal.
oh ok
must be a driver issues in BSD
Was that r710 to r710?
yea
cool stuff tho
What OS were they running?
Meant that I got to live in a hotel for 3 months
at that time I had them baremetal installed windows 2012 and ubuntu
Side note, Discord won't load over Verizon lol.
A very shitty hotel
@chrome hound hmm
I have since converted them to proxmox and run a 3 cluster
...ended up using the cancer stick to steal internet from the police station next door..
Proxmox...
LOL
"fbi open up"
Note: They let me do it, and the Cancer Stickโข was installed on their roof as an AP
I used a LiteBeam to connect to that from my hotel room
the cancerstick never dies
You didn't do it correctly
And then I managed to sell that hotel on FiberLight, set up their new routing networks and APs on a weekend and made a bit of money
nah
I started with esxi it was good, but you really need to tools to and paid lic to make it easy, I just don't have the patience for it proxmox, while not preffect is pretty set it and for get it ๐
If it'd been a local hotel, I'd have probably done the work for free because, you know, I was staying there. But it was corporate, so they have corporate money and I took it.
I did give them an hourly rate discount
lol
@chrome hound ah
But yeah, that hotel has a Cisco router, some UBNT PoE switches, and UBNT Pro APs
(And a VPN server that I totally don't still have access credentials for coughcough)
ive been in a nice hotel in spain that had a network rack/ubiquiti Ap's etc
and while staying there, internet went down for days
@chrome hound you could always use Windows server... Jk jk
My goldfish really likes the 2020 XServe.
I wouldn't wise that on any one
Lol
we had an admin that loved and swore by hyper viser
I tried to use Vyia but I failed pretty bad getting it to install
bad man
I'm using ESXi and Workstation 14
this admin messed up a netapp by re-configing it to be native for Hypervisor
systems would just stop and loss luns 3 or 4 times a day
Lol
good for me though, they tossed the netapp out ๐
Use RRAS as a router....jk jk
That seems like a way to put yourself through more pain than needed
hey you need cache storage to play leage of leagends
Lmao
"the shit I tell me wife" ๐
Lol
but in her case its, baby this will improve your Guildswars play experinace ๐
๐
ok so I think I am going to buy a new nic, but the question is, netgate recommended chilso or a better intel?
Hmm
and I jsut found my next hobby ๐ >> https://support.speedtest.net/hc/en-us/articles/203845650-How-can-I-host-a-server-on-Speedtest-net-
Yeah you can do that
no more of this having to go 150 miles away to get a speed test
They require gigabit up and down
10 gigabit recommend
If you run a speedtest on the same network as a speedtest server you'll get the speed between you and the server
So if you run a speedtest on a gigabit internet but 10 Gigabit locally and there's a speedtest server on the same network you'll get results of 10 Gigabit lol
well part of my slow speed results is the NNI I route through to get to that speed testr server is a bonded 10G so I am never going to see 10g results until they upgrade the datacenter cross connects to 100gb
but I know for sure my PfSense is a bottle neck, I took it to work and let them setup a speed trhough put test on it with there equipment and it topped out at 6 gb
Hmm
tbh ahving 10gb to my desktop is more just for fun than anything I will even need, but it has been nice not having those random game drops when the next kids starts streaming something ๐
Iol
Noice
make him pay
I will make you pay
So, I have an Archer C9 and for some reason for the past few days it randomly need to be reset to work properly. Randomly the net will stop working for a few minutes to an hour unless I reset it, and it's not like I'm doing huge dls either just browsing the web and playing arena shooters like unreal and quake champions
I'd recommend getting a new router
that's what I was thinking of doing if there's no firmware upgrade. I love the archer c9, but this is getting annoying. <.<
lmao @subtle glen
@strong tusk max you're willing to spend on a new router?
Would prefer under 100, but I might shift some budget and go as high as 140-200
Is it just wireless that stops working or all of it?
ER-Lite 3 and an AP is what I'd recommend https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HXT8EKE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3xJuBbCGAR8G8
Well, it also might not purely be the router tbh. I have xfinity/comcast and we had a huge outage across the country and then a couple of small ones over the past 2 weeks. The router doing it only started yesterday and happened like 10 minutes again today. And, not it's not the wifi its wired too.
I'm also on the latest firmware which is Archer C9(US)_V1_180125
That'll only give you 2 ports after the AP though
I know my brother in law has one as you mentioned I can just get more through a switch.
Ye
Yah, switch will work for more ports ๐
I might also talk to tplink cuz I might also be in warranty still
prolly not cuz like I bought it in 2015
Well, I mean I do have a network switch where my networking stuff is, so I don't need to buy one
I have the netgear one you bought like a week or 2 ago
Ok
the GS105NA
Ah, so the unmanaged version of my switch. Yeah I like that switch
Nice and tiny
@clear igloo I got the Edgerouter X...I don't have prime tho. So it's coming
oof
Oof to what? No prime or the Edgerouter
no prime
Hey guys, I upgraded my internet and have started using Ethernet, I used to have 50mbps download/upload and now i have 150mbps(with Ethernet).
There is no difference but I have 150
please help
Difference in what?
How are you testing?
And does it show the new speed or does it show 50?
the new speed
Pages aren't always going to load faster with faster speed, that's mostly down to latency and responsiveness of the end server to your request
downloads, streaming, multi-users, etc
those speeds are good for streaming 4k, really
really good jitter too
well, 4k compressed like over youtube
Some things, like images, might load faster but if you had pretty good latency before you and you've still got about the same amount of latency it won't feel faster
bandwidth on your end like that usually makes the other end the bottleneck, depending on what's over there
Depends highly on the area
oh
There are a lot of places with 25Mbps or much less
yeah if you're unlucky to just happen to live in a not good area, too bad
but your speeds are, compared to the majority in the US, excellent
especially with that jitter
that's a good-ass jitter
There are a few towns with 10Gbe but I don't think anyone really has a subscription for that
what is jitter(sorry i dont know much about internet speeds)
Maybe a handful of people since it's usually a few hundred a month
I think there's a single doctor or professor somewhere who has a dedicted 100Gb connection but because he simulates and generates terabytes of data from tests daily
lol
but yeah the major cities have been finally starting to get ~100-300Mbps
since the Spectrum merge, they've drastically improved performance in my area
which is super counter-intuitive to how I would have felt about them doing anything in the last decade
Yah, they are supposed to be rolling out DOCSIS 3.1 to more places over the next year and enabling gigabit (download)
But only 40 up ๐
is that a DOCSIS limitation?
Sort of
I know it prioritizes down over up, don't know the numbers off the top of my head though
It has to do with allocation of spectrum to download and upload and in most cases more bandwidth is download anyway so the allocate more to that
There are symmetrical DOCSIS 3.x standards but the spectrum of channels for upload speed has to be changed I think
And that's limited in a lot of places by older cables
@azure ravine Jitter is a measurement of how much delay varies over time
I'm just excited for the day when fiber is the normal
AT&T has been rolling that out around me too
that's
we pay like $45 promotional price for 100Mb down
$65 is the option for 300Mb down
Yah, I had the gig plan with Spectrum for about 3 months
It was $139/month
The moment I heard AT&T was available I dropped them in a second
They were pretty good to me but when I could have more for less, I didn't have to think about it, lol
yeah
@clear igloo I thought DC3.1 could do at least gigabit up
@mild blade I have Spectrum and they're decent...
DC3.1 can do 10/1
Yeah
or 10/2 depending on who you ask, lol
Bad @rocky badge stop stealing the wee fee
i would not connect to it
@clear igloo weeee fee!
free wai fai
Free scam-fi
@clear igloo would you use public WiFi without a VPN?
LOL
Might as well type my credit card numbers in bold numbers and print it out at a free printer too
that's just asking for someone to sniff your packets
I mean, if it's over HTTPS then you're most likely safe, but still not good practice
Lol
๐ ๐ฝ
anyone sniffing would still be able to see the encrypted header and body and source/destination
i just watched videos of hackers deleting scammers pc sys 32 folders etc and i feel like i have to buy a watchguard firewall
@mild blade all of my sites use HTTPS, most use HSTS as well
considering it's now free to get trusted certs for HTTPS, there's literally no excuse for anyone to ever not use it
Yeah
Let's Encrypt on main and Cloudflare on the rest
@subtle glen to get info about you
lol
wish my connection was fast enough for a vpn
there is a vpn feature integrated in my phone that i cant use
@rocky badge turns out there was an outage yesterday in my area that kicked me offline they just fixed it right away hence why I thought it was the router, but the tplink agent is just making sure "just incase" that my equipment is fine.
lol
@clear igloo the cisco forum is a bad place
So, he said basically the equipment is fine it was probably just a random hiccup today and yesterday was just an outage. So, I'm probably fine.
8K
So, I guess there's no need to buy new equipment.
True, but I'd rather get the 1950x then new networking equipment
Lol
to be fair, I probably caused one of the outages. Remember, I was watching 8k vids.

๐
Does anyone use Ubiquity EdgeRouters for site to site VPN? I need help with my config.
There is a storm here, wish I had a surge protector ๐
Mmmm
Surge
Cause yknow, I dont want to have 10 burned pc's/ a burned tv, burned routers etc
Planning to go overkill
@subtle glen No, this
We still have that here
anyone know that data realtime replication linus uses?
@strong tusk mmmmmmm surge
tasty surge
we dont have it in italy
we dont even have mountain dew
@loud lance He posted it on the forums not too long ago, on the last server room thing a couple months ago
I personally use MirrorFolder on my computers to the NAS and then CrashPlan from NAS to cloud
shit
RIP crashplan ๐ฆ
@loud lance it's PeerSync iirc https://www.peersoftware.com/peersync/
PeerSync is the industry standard for file synchronization and replication. Ideal for high-volume server transactions in WAN and LAN environments.
@slow pivot How is it rip?
Their personal service is terminating as of the end of this or next year
Commercial offerings are still going to be available
I was debating that. But i might go with backblaze
I use FBackup and Macrium Reflect, Reflect is just imaging though.
Lol
Yah, I stuck with CrashPlan because moving 4TB of information is a pain
Not for you...
And I can use a VM to backup my NAS with crashplan since they don't do headless clients anymore
You have 10 gigabit locally and gigabit internet
Plus I have all my versioning backed up on CrashPlan
is currently using urbackup
is currently using nobackup
no, literally urbackup is an oss backup client/server solution ๐
It's not bad, only issue is the offsite backups
Do rsync is an option ?
@slow pivot I don't use any backup lol
eeeeh, urbackup uses hardlinks for files that haven't changed, and takes advantage of btrfs's de-duping, so unrolling a backup offsite with rsync is not realistic
@rocky badge You're gonna cry at some point because of that ๐
Why's that?
Any important data that's mine is on in OneDrive
But my parents have 500GB of photos
ahhh, gotchya, well that's sorta a backup
At home
it is at least resilient to local computer failures
There's no backup to that, my parents photos
Are you the IT "specialist" at home? If so, it will become your problem when they lose the disk that data is on ๐
Somewhat lol
The photo share is mapped to all of the PCs
So it's always the X drive
The data drive for documents is Z
Ahh, so /multiple/ ways things can be deleted, excellent, excellent.
even over the share?
Yes
cool. Well I hope that doesn't go south ๐
Lol
User profiles aren't on each PC
So the drives in the PC can die and user profiles are safe
Safe on your single server that is backed up, right? ๐
It'll last longer than my phone lol
XD
what router @rocky badge ?
Edgerouter X
Nice
@clear igloo @waxen scroll https://twitter.com/LinusTech/status/1021520318609780736
Lol everyone is talking about no Ipv6
They're using Windows Server 2012 R2 for DHCP and AD, IPv6 screws up AD sometimes
Depends on how you have your DNS records setup
Ah, interesting
that reminds me
i was going to ask an architect if we're even going to try to put that in
so i can steal the project
๐
NAT harder!
My school uses 10.0.0.0/8 and they're using I'd say 15% of the hosts
i have 8000 buildings, many data centers, and cloud
@waxen scroll Just use 8.0.0.0/4
XD
meh
We've got a project now to look at doing IPv6 for all VoIP phones xD
๐ค
that might be an idea but you still probably need full ipv6 support in the head end
thats where im going to run into issues at my job
Yah
tons of IT people and managers going "but it works today, why would we change it?"
2 jobs ago i came close to getting it done because all the engineers agreed we should pilot and roll it out
except 1 asshole
lol, there's always 1
wanted nothing to do with it and he was an architect who could block it
im trying to get hired back there but the manager of the team i need to be on is ignoring me lol
hard to tell if hes just being himself or ignoring me because hes salty
Maybe he's trying to speak to you in IPv6 ๐
i'd take a small pay cut to work there again
Sounds like you really enjoyed it
