5 ports ok?

warped mountain
#

Internet box, workstation, Xbox 360, server, laptop/other

#

So 5 should be enough

rocky badge
#

Wait

#

This is cheaper than a Netgear 5 port unmaged gigabit switch lol

warped mountain
#

It costs around 15โ‚ฌ in France

#

It was the cheapest I found if I remember

#

Found a bit cheaper

#

And this one has a light for every port on the front

rocky badge
#

Lol

warped mountain
#

Should be good enough I think

rocky badge
#

Yeah

warped mountain
#

Now the hard part

#

Buying it now or waiting for my birthday for my friends to buy me one

loud lance
#

hey @warped mountain

#

you want that DLink 5port?

#

I can get you a $15 amazon card on me

warped mountain
#

Wut

#

I'm gonna buy it myself

#

I need it for the next university year

#

I'll be able to store my Git projects locally

rocky badge
#

Lol

#

Nice

warped mountain
#

Also storing a shit ton of university assignement/projects on my local server

#

So syncing between my desktop and my laptop will be easier

loud lance
#

Ah, just wondering cause you said you were waiting for your friends to buy you one. ๐Ÿ˜›

warped mountain
#

Yup I'm a cheap bastard

#

Always going on the cheap and trying to save money on everything

#

So if my friends can gift me that 15โ‚ฌ switch, that's a great thing for me

gentle siren
#

Coming next week to a convention in Baltimore near you:

#

I think we're pretty set to light the place up with as much WiFi as we need.

hallow nimbus
#

You can never have enough wifi

#

Does ur wifi reach ur supermarket?

gentle siren
#

Well...it could if I hooked up the Cancer Stickโ„ข

#

The instructions said to not turn it on within 30 feet of people. We were used to consumer gear getting overly cautious with the warnings. We now heed those warnings.

old vale
#

ayy i use most of this hardware on a daily basis

hallow nimbus
#

Lmao the cancerstick ๐Ÿ˜‚

gentle siren
#

Same, Onyx, at my old job in Texas

#

@gentle siren ooh nice

"Nasdaq recently informed customers that the high humidity caused by the recent heatwave in the New York City area was slowing down radio transmissions between three New Jersey data centres, leading to slower trading. Transmission between Nasdaqโ€™s facility in Carteret to the New York Stock Exchange data centre in Mahwah was 8ms longer, and it was 2ms longer to the Cboe Global Marketโ€™s exchange in Secaucus."

This is why I don't work for traders

Global warming is fake the earth naturally heats up and cools down that is how we got out of the ice age the earth will naturally start to cool down after it heats up

warped mountain
#

Gonna buy the switch I shown earlier and 2 3m ethernet cable today

rocky badge
#

Okay

warped mountain

A self gift for suceeding in studies

vagrant heath
#

Good for you

waxen scroll
#

I'm going to buy myself a 48 port managed switch in @warped mountain 's honor

#

So many blinkies

warped mountain
#

Are you even serious ? Lol

vital badger
#

@gentle siren Seen Mikrotik's netmetal with 3000mw? ๐Ÿ˜„

gentle siren
#

Yeah! I actually love Miktotik gear

#

We went Ubiquiti in Texas because I wanted to be able to hand it off to the customer and give them control with UNMS

rocky badge
#

Ah, good ole Cancer Stickโ„ข

#

๐Ÿ˜„

hallow nimbus
#

๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

gentle siren
#

One does not mess around with the Cancer Stickโ„ข

rocky badge
#

The โ„ข is important

vital badger
#

In norway the maximum allowed sender strenght is 250mw erp

#

So the 3000mw one got classified as military equipment over here ๐Ÿ˜›

rocky badge
#

lol

gentle siren
#

Meanwhile, in the US, we had a gig where we didn't have a fiber repeater and wanted to send an RTMP stream out to a poolside TV for a gig

#

So we went with Litebeams instead. It's the only time that I've ever seen them limit down

warped mountain
#

That bikini tho

#

Is it even legal to have such an horrible bikini ?

rocky badge
#

Is that a hotel?

#

๐Ÿ˜„

vital badger
#

At least she is wearing a bikini?

warped mountain

Ugh this hurts

Hurts seing the minutes for a 4GB download

rocky badge
#

This PC's NIC sucks

#

it's Realtek

gentle siren
#

At the event next week, we're going to have: 1x UBNT USG-PRO-4, 1x UBNT USG-XG-8, 1x, UBNT ERPro-8, 1x Mikrotik CCR1036-8G-2S+

vital badger
#

Nice!

gentle siren

Because overkill in routing? Never.

rocky badge

gentle siren

I use the USG-XG-8 as my home router at the moment

That's the important thing ๐Ÿ˜›

warped mountain
#

Getting them next week

rocky badge
#

No prime?

warped mountain
#

I'll finally be able to run my own liltle company from my bedroom

#

Nope

#

I nearly never buy on Amazon

rocky badge
#

I don't have prime either

#

;-;

vital badger
#

I don't have amazon...

rocky badge
warped mountain
#

I mostly buy from AliExpress

#

10x cheaper

#

Don't mind the extra week of wait

vital badger
#

AliExpress is bae

#

But I usually don't buy like regular brands there

warped mountain
#

Me neither

#

It's mosly cables and adapters

rocky badge
#

I've never used AliExpress

warped mountain
#

Hell, a mini Display Port to VGA adapter would costs at least 15โ‚ฌ in France because only sold by Apple

warped mountain
#

I found one for 3โ‚ฌ on ali express

vital badger
#

Got both the watch and the strap on aliexpress

warped mountain
#

Wow looks nice

vital badger
#

Total was like under 80 EUR

rocky badge
#

Wow nice

vital badger
#

Lasts almost a week if you are a bit smart

warped mountain
#

Nice

#

I should buy one too

rocky badge
warped mountain
#

But 80โ‚ฌ is too much for me, not broke, but greedy

#

How much Gb ?

gentle siren
#

Fun fact on AirFibers: Unless they're perfectly aligned...you get about 1/2 of what they're capable of.

vital badger
#

80EUR is what a decent steak dinner costs here so

gentle siren
vital badger

wait

you changed threads

ez mate

@warped mountain

warped mountain

@vital badger Its only ISP that has reasonable price, I have 10mbps download and 1 mbps upload, other one is charging $60 per month for that speed, while this one is $25. They allow PFSense routers and server hosting, I can add $20 additionally and get static IP and build custom DNS server if I want to

#

@vital badger and PFSense router

#

cause the current one is really shitty

vital badger
#

Lol, here 500/500 fiber is 60$

#

Static ip is 1$

500/100 fiber here is 40โ‚ฌ

@old vale where are you

:/

meager hazel
#

But cas the company don't like me i get it for 23

mortal galleon
#

400/20 Fibre is 40โ‚ฌ here, but you can't get a static ip, just business contracts can

meager hazel
#

I still find it funny how they limet the upload to what they do

mortal galleon
#

Ye, maybe to nerf commercial use/hosting

meager hazel
#

Maybe

clear igloo

@waxen scroll Not anymore ๐Ÿ˜›

high anchor
#

In France, fiber (to the home) 500/200 (at min, most of the time 900/300) at 50โ‚ฌ with Orange, dynamic IP (static IP is an option at 18โ‚ฌ/mo. and only available if you don't have a mobile plan linked to your internet plan)

warped mountain
#

50โ‚ฌ for fiber

#

WTF

#

It's over 80โ‚ฌ+ here

high anchor
#

And also, this includes TV (160 channels), phone (unlimited, to +100 destinations) and free fiber + router installation by their technicians.

#

And yeah, we have TV over Internet with special receivers, included with the internet plan, which are compatible with UHD and HDR (even with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video) and you can have 2 receivers for free with the highest plan.

vital badger
#

Same here, got an IPTV based android box

They just use a specific VLAN so u can pipe it thru ur own devices

Hey guys I am looking for help with getting better performance out of my PfSense setup. I think I am down to needing to replace my nic, but before I went that route I though I would ask around about best performance setups. currently I am getting about 4 to 5 gig using ipref at home and I took the box to my work where they used some fancy testing equipment to test through put on fiber switches with about the same results. It always seems to only use about 25% of the CPU.

hollow helm

Paid with paypal though so can get my money back worst case

nocturne harness
#

@chrome hound 4 to 5 Gb/s doing what? What kind of NIC do you have?

rocky badge
#

Probably a 10Gigabit NIC or multiple Gb NICs

chrome hound
#

in the PfSense on Intel 560? dual port SPF+ the servers are Molex with one matching Intel dual port nic, my desktop is also running a Molex single port SPF+ with a X670-48x as my switch. in ipref I can get 9 ish gigs between two systems, so I am pretty sure its not the switch.

#

sorry they are the 540 Intel cards, which is why I was wondering if I needed to get a Chelsio I have seen those recommended, and netgate sells them as there supported card.

#

Our prime minister doesnโ€™t give about our failed fibre internet

subtle glen

the main isp's here dont care too, there is a 3rd party company that is trying to cover all the houses with ftth (this company works with the power one so that they can use the existing conduits, substations etc to put fiber )

pulsar thorn
#

Our fibre company has just been literally ripping up paths to install it

When there are already phone lines in

Omg

At least you could cope with it

subtle glen

i had a more powerful gtx

so i could bully them about that

This is how I will connect to fibre

Too much stuff

Our router is dsl not Ethernet

TheRE Is No FiBer

pulsar thorn

Itโ€™s an extra box to connect

ftth right?

that seems a copper phone cable

pulsar thorn

subtle glen

oh ok

rocky badge

LOL

pulsar thorn
#

Not premises

rocky badge

Then is rj11?

#

No ONT ;-;

gentle siren
#

Hmm. I wonder if I can just have them route fiber directly to my router. Most enterprise drops I've used recently used LC connectors...

rocky badge
#

Hmm

subtle glen
#

you would need a fiber jack

rocky badge
#

I know FiOS has an ONT outside the house/building

#

Then Ethernet back to the router

subtle glen
#

HELL YEAH rj11 ftw

gentle siren
#

Yeah, exactly. I'm thinking of having them skip a step.

pulsar thorn
rocky badge
#

Hmm @gentle siren

subtle glen
#

uu media converters

pulsar thorn
#

We have 7 ways to connect to nbn

chrome hound
#

If you can get the right optic it should be possible

subtle glen

lol

pulsar thorn
#

Holy dang dang

rocky badge
subtle glen
#

cover the ip

pulsar thorn
#

Yep

#

Much slow ay?

rocky badge
#

@chrome hound nice, never heard of that ISP. Is it like a local ISP?

chrome hound
#

well technically they are not open to the public for service, I work for them so I can get attached in

rocky badge
#

Ah, makes sense

subtle glen
#

if you have ftth but its only 100mbps, the problem for that could be the fiber rack in the street that is outdated right?

chrome hound
#

they just provide FTTH and then they have a reange of ISP they can delivery too

#

we have a lot of customers that only pay for 100mp

pulsar thorn
#

Ye

rocky badge
#

Or the ISP only allows you to have 100Mbps

pulsar thorn
#

Ye

chrome hound
#

its going to come down to the optics in use and the ONT

rocky badge
#

having FTTH doesn't mean automatic gigabit

subtle glen
#

well thats bullshit, i mean they wire a palace with ftth

#

why not gbit

rocky badge
#

It's just the way of getting a connection to your router

chrome hound
#

when I first moved into this house the ONT was an older allied that only have 100mb Optics

#

I upgraded to a Zone which let me move to 1g then when I got hired on at Utopia I upgraded to 10g

pulsar thorn
rocky badge
#

Like DC3.0 can do gigabit down and 200Mbps up

chrome hound
#

all on the same fiber cable

rocky badge
#

But that doesn't mean ISPs will give you gigabit and 200Mbps

gentle siren
rocky badge
#

@chrome hound lol nice

This is the link I'm most proud of, though. Just under 40 Mb/s symmetric over 8.5 miles.

@chrome hound Intel 10 gigabit nic in a r710

#

Forgot the exact details

chrome hound
#

which intel nic?

rocky badge
#

On the other hand...my VPN speeds lol

subtle glen
#

you have 10 gb in your home network?

chrome hound
#

yea

subtle glen
#

ffs

chrome hound
#

hey I need it to play Leage of legends

subtle glen
#

i need to play mc with friends in my private server

rocky badge
#

X520-LR1 iirc

#

Now we're using Cisco

#

15/15 symnertical on Verizon with my VPN... I bet it's Verizon throttling me lol

chrome hound
#

so yea I am wondering my intel nic is the problem

rocky badge
#

Hmm

#

Showing as 10 Gigabit full duplex in pfsense?

chrome hound
subtle glen
#

๐Ÿ˜”

rocky badge
#

Hmm

subtle glen
#

at least i got 3 NIC in my pfsense

I don't think the VPN host is a problem

#

I think it's Verizon

chrome hound
rocky badge
#

It didn't give me a valid IP ;-;

#

@chrome hound hmm

#

Never seen this issue before...

#

Is pfsense running on dedicated hardware

#

Or is it in a vm

chrome hound
#

it strange it never seems to use more than 25% of the CPU

#

dedicate

rocky badge
#

What nic

chrome hound

#

intel 540-dr2

gentle siren
#

I never expect to go over 10% CPU usage on my Ubiquiti UniFi Security Gateway XG.

rocky badge
#

Yeah the X540-DR2 can do 10Gb

#

That's odd

gentle siren
#

I have 3 VLANs, only about a dozen firewall rules. and fewer than 30 clients.

chrome hound
#

I was using DA cables but I converted to all Fiber

rocky badge
#

iperf ?

chrome hound
#

its about the same, I haven'

#

t tested it for a while though

rocky badge
chrome hound
#

is it possible there is a switch in the community edition?

rocky badge
#

Hmm searching X540-DR2 pfsense gets this

chrome hound
#

humm

subtle glen
#

@gentle siren didn't know toshiba makes motors btw

chrome hound
#

so that does kind of support my suspision of hte nic

rocky badge
#

Hmm

gentle siren
#

Oh yeah, we tried them for a bit after Westinghouse screwed us over because they spec'd the wrong lubricant and we ended burning up 3 of their pumps

subtle glen
#

lol

#

how much does that one you sent in the pic cost

gentle siren
#

Hmm, I think around $180k

subtle glen
#

and you burned them

#

cool !

#

whats that, delta or star

#

for startup

gentle siren
#

Actually no idea. My job was to make them usable from across the internet

subtle glen
#

oh oke

gentle siren
#

And the hardest rule to get across to everyone was that there would be no PLCs connected directly to the internet

subtle glen
#

btw what was that setup for

gentle siren
#

We had them connected to our HMI, had those talk to the oil field server, have that go through a nice firewall, and only then would things hit the internet.

chrome hound
#

@rocky badge when I was first trying to see if the switch would support a full 10g I was using two of the intel 540's between two r710 and was hitting 9gb pretty solid

gentle siren
#

Was so hard to get across to everyone, especially Rockwell.

subtle glen
#

lol

rocky badge
#

@chrome hound hmm

#

That seems like a good sign

subtle glen
#

so thats a pump for oil?

gentle siren
#

Oh, that was for a salt water disposal.

subtle glen
#

oh ok

chrome hound
#

must be a driver issues in BSD

rocky badge
#

Was that r710 to r710?

chrome hound
#

yea

subtle glen
#

cool stuff tho

rocky badge
#

What OS were they running?

gentle siren
#

Meant that I got to live in a hotel for 3 months

chrome hound
#

at that time I had them baremetal installed windows 2012 and ubuntu

rocky badge
#

Side note, Discord won't load over Verizon lol.

gentle siren
#

A very shitty hotel

rocky badge
#

@chrome hound hmm

subtle glen
#

oh wow

#

3 months

#

ffs

chrome hound
#

I have since converted them to proxmox and run a 3 cluster

gentle siren
#

...ended up using the cancer stick to steal internet from the police station next door..

rocky badge
#

Proxmox...

subtle glen
#

LOL

rocky badge
#

ESXi pls

#

Lol

subtle glen
#

"fbi open up"

gentle siren
#

Note: They let me do it, and the Cancer Stickโ„ข was installed on their roof as an AP

#

I used a LiteBeam to connect to that from my hotel room

subtle glen
#

the cancerstick never dies

rocky badge
#

You didn't do it correctly

gentle siren
#

And then I managed to sell that hotel on FiberLight, set up their new routing networks and APs on a weekend and made a bit of money

rocky badge
#

There has to be a space between Cancer and Stick

#

With the tm at the end

#

๐Ÿ˜›

subtle glen
#

nah

chrome hound
#

I started with esxi it was good, but you really need to tools to and paid lic to make it easy, I just don't have the patience for it proxmox, while not preffect is pretty set it and for get it ๐Ÿ˜„

gentle siren
#

If it'd been a local hotel, I'd have probably done the work for free because, you know, I was staying there. But it was corporate, so they have corporate money and I took it.

#

I did give them an hourly rate discount

subtle glen
#

lol

rocky badge
#

@chrome hound ah

gentle siren
#

But yeah, that hotel has a Cisco router, some UBNT PoE switches, and UBNT Pro APs

#

(And a VPN server that I totally don't still have access credentials for coughcough)

subtle glen
#

ive been in a nice hotel in spain that had a network rack/ubiquiti Ap's etc

#

and while staying there, internet went down for days

rocky badge
#

@chrome hound you could always use Windows server... Jk jk

gentle siren
#

My goldfish really likes the 2020 XServe.

chrome hound
#

I wouldn't wise that on any one

rocky badge
#

Lol

chrome hound
#

we had an admin that loved and swore by hyper viser

rocky badge
#

Have you tried opnsense?

#

Sometimes it works better than pfsense

chrome hound
#

I tried to use Vyia but I failed pretty bad getting it to install

rocky badge
#

Hmm

#

I don't use HyperV anymore lol

chrome hound
#

bad man

rocky badge
#

I'm using ESXi and Workstation 14

chrome hound
#

this admin messed up a netapp by re-configing it to be native for Hypervisor

#

systems would just stop and loss luns 3 or 4 times a day

rocky badge
#

Lol

chrome hound
#

good for me though, they tossed the netapp out ๐Ÿ˜„

rocky badge
#

Use RRAS as a router....jk jk

chrome hound
rocky badge
#

That seems like a way to put yourself through more pain than needed

chrome hound
#

hey you need cache storage to play leage of leagends

rocky badge
#

Lmao

chrome hound
#

"the shit I tell me wife" ๐Ÿ˜„

rocky badge
#

Lol

chrome hound
#

but in her case its, baby this will improve your Guildswars play experinace ๐Ÿ˜„

rocky badge
#

๐Ÿ˜„

chrome hound
#

ok so I think I am going to buy a new nic, but the question is, netgate recommended chilso or a better intel?

rocky badge
#

Hmm

chrome hound
rocky badge
#

Yeah you can do that

chrome hound
#

no more of this having to go 150 miles away to get a speed test

rocky badge
#

They require gigabit up and down

#

10 gigabit recommend

#

If you run a speedtest on the same network as a speedtest server you'll get the speed between you and the server

#

So if you run a speedtest on a gigabit internet but 10 Gigabit locally and there's a speedtest server on the same network you'll get results of 10 Gigabit lol

chrome hound
#

well part of my slow speed results is the NNI I route through to get to that speed testr server is a bonded 10G so I am never going to see 10g results until they upgrade the datacenter cross connects to 100gb

#

but I know for sure my PfSense is a bottle neck, I took it to work and let them setup a speed trhough put test on it with there equipment and it topped out at 6 gb

rocky badge
#

Hmm

chrome hound
#

tbh ahving 10gb to my desktop is more just for fun than anything I will even need, but it has been nice not having those random game drops when the next kids starts streaming something ๐Ÿ˜„

So, I have an Archer C9 and for some reason for the past few days it randomly need to be reset to work properly. Randomly the net will stop working for a few minutes to an hour unless I reset it, and it's not like I'm doing huge dls either just browsing the web and playing arena shooters like unreal and quake champions

rocky badge
#

I'd recommend getting a new router

strong tusk
#

that's what I was thinking of doing if there's no firmware upgrade. I love the archer c9, but this is getting annoying. <.<

old vale
#

lmao @subtle glen

rocky badge
#

@strong tusk max you're willing to spend on a new router?

strong tusk
#

Would prefer under 100, but I might shift some budget and go as high as 140-200

clear igloo
#

Is it just wireless that stops working or all of it?

rocky badge
strong tusk
#

Well, it also might not purely be the router tbh. I have xfinity/comcast and we had a huge outage across the country and then a couple of small ones over the past 2 weeks. The router doing it only started yesterday and happened like 10 minutes again today. And, not it's not the wifi its wired too.

strong tusk
#

I'm also on the latest firmware which is Archer C9(US)_V1_180125

rocky badge
#

That'll only give you 2 ports after the AP though

strong tusk
#

I know my brother in law has one as you mentioned I can just get more through a switch.

rocky badge
#

Ye

clear igloo
#

Yah, switch will work for more ports ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

strong tusk
#

I might also talk to tplink cuz I might also be in warranty still

#

prolly not cuz like I bought it in 2015

rocky badge
#

The ER-X has 5 Ethernet ports

#

One will be WAN tho

strong tusk
#

Well, I mean I do have a network switch where my networking stuff is, so I don't need to buy one

#

I have the netgear one you bought like a week or 2 ago

rocky badge
#

Ok

strong tusk
#

the GS105NA

rocky badge
#

Ah, so the unmanaged version of my switch. Yeah I like that switch

#

Nice and tiny

#

@clear igloo I got the Edgerouter X...I don't have prime tho. So it's coming soontm

clear igloo
#

oof

rocky badge
#

Oof to what? No prime or the Edgerouter

clear igloo
#

no prime

azure ravine
#

Hey guys, I upgraded my internet and have started using Ethernet, I used to have 50mbps download/upload and now i have 150mbps(with Ethernet).

#

There is no difference but I have 150

#

please help

clear igloo
#

Difference in what?

azure ravine
#

internet speed

#

feels the same

clear igloo
#

How are you testing?

azure ravine
#

speedtest

#

by ookla

clear igloo
#

And does it show the new speed or does it show 50?

azure ravine
#

the new speed

clear igloo
#

Pages aren't always going to load faster with faster speed, that's mostly down to latency and responsiveness of the end server to your request

azure ravine
#

the speed shows 150

#

so this is only useful for streaming video

clear igloo
#

downloads, streaming, multi-users, etc

azure ravine
#

ok

#

thanks

mild blade
#

those speeds are good for streaming 4k, really

#

really good jitter too

#

well, 4k compressed like over youtube

clear igloo
#

Some things, like images, might load faster but if you had pretty good latency before you and you've still got about the same amount of latency it won't feel faster

mild blade
#

bandwidth on your end like that usually makes the other end the bottleneck, depending on what's over there

azure ravine
#

also

#

does the US have higher speeds

#

this is the most I can get in my area

clear igloo
#

Depends highly on the area

azure ravine
#

oh

clear igloo
#

There are a lot of places with 25Mbps or much less

mild blade
#

yeah if you're unlucky to just happen to live in a not good area, too bad

azure ravine
#

oh

#

what is the highest in the US

mild blade
#

but your speeds are, compared to the majority in the US, excellent

#

especially with that jitter

#

that's a good-ass jitter

clear igloo
#

There are a few towns with 10Gbe but I don't think anyone really has a subscription for that

azure ravine
#

what is jitter(sorry i dont know much about internet speeds)

clear igloo
#

Maybe a handful of people since it's usually a few hundred a month

azure ravine
#

woah

#

expensive

mild blade
#

I think there's a single doctor or professor somewhere who has a dedicted 100Gb connection but because he simulates and generates terabytes of data from tests daily

azure ravine
#

lol

mild blade
#

but yeah the major cities have been finally starting to get ~100-300Mbps

#

since the Spectrum merge, they've drastically improved performance in my area

#

which is super counter-intuitive to how I would have felt about them doing anything in the last decade

clear igloo
#

Yah, they are supposed to be rolling out DOCSIS 3.1 to more places over the next year and enabling gigabit (download)

mild blade
#

gimme

clear igloo
#

But only 40 up ๐Ÿ˜›

mild blade
#

is that a DOCSIS limitation?

clear igloo
#

Sort of

mild blade
#

I know it prioritizes down over up, don't know the numbers off the top of my head though

clear igloo
#

It has to do with allocation of spectrum to download and upload and in most cases more bandwidth is download anyway so the allocate more to that

#

There are symmetrical DOCSIS 3.x standards but the spectrum of channels for upload speed has to be changed I think

#

And that's limited in a lot of places by older cables

#

@azure ravine Jitter is a measurement of how much delay varies over time

mild blade
#

I'm just excited for the day when fiber is the normal

#

AT&T has been rolling that out around me too

clear igloo
#

Yah, I got it about 2 months ago ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

$80/month for full gigabit is pretty nice

mild blade
#

that's big

#

we pay like $45 promotional price for 100Mb down

#

$65 is the option for 300Mb down

clear igloo
#

Yah, I had the gig plan with Spectrum for about 3 months

#

It was $139/month

#

The moment I heard AT&T was available I dropped them in a second

mild blade
#

Spectrum has been (mostly) good for me

#

some random nights of outages after midnight

clear igloo
#

They were pretty good to me but when I could have more for less, I didn't have to think about it, lol

mild blade
#

yeah

rocky badge
#

@clear igloo I thought DC3.1 could do at least gigabit up

#

@mild blade I have Spectrum and they're decent...

clear igloo
#

DC3.1 can do 10/1

rocky badge
#

Yeah

clear igloo
#

or 10/2 depending on who you ask, lol

rocky badge
#

Lol

#

Full duplex can do 10/10

mild blade
#

well it's still full duplex

#

it's just different rates in each direction

rocky badge
#

Yeah

clear igloo
#

Bad @rocky badge stop stealing the wee fee

@clear igloo would you use public WiFi without a VPN?

clear igloo
#

LOL

#

Might as well type my credit card numbers in bold numbers and print it out at a free printer too

mild blade
#

that's just asking for someone to sniff your packets

#

I mean, if it's over HTTPS then you're most likely safe, but still not good practice

rocky badge
#

Lol

subtle glen
#

๐Ÿ‘ƒ ๐Ÿฝ

mild blade
#

anyone sniffing would still be able to see the encrypted header and body and source/destination

subtle glen
#

i just watched videos of hackers deleting scammers pc sys 32 folders etc and i feel like i have to buy a watchguard firewall

rocky badge
#

@mild blade all of my sites use HTTPS, most use HSTS as well

mild blade
#

considering it's now free to get trusted certs for HTTPS, there's literally no excuse for anyone to ever not use it

rocky badge
#

Yeah

subtle glen

why do public wifi's need you to register

#

never understood it

rocky badge

strong tusk
#

@rocky badge turns out there was an outage yesterday in my area that kicked me offline they just fixed it right away hence why I thought it was the router, but the tplink agent is just making sure "just incase" that my equipment is fine.

rocky badge
#

Hmm

#

LOL the NSA

clear igloo
#

lol

subtle glen
strong tusk
#

So, he said basically the equipment is fine it was probably just a random hiccup today and yesterday was just an outage. So, I'm probably fine.

rocky badge

I'd say 10 RDP sessions would use 20Mbps lol

#

Depending on the quality

subtle glen

8K

strong tusk

So, I guess there's no need to buy new equipment.

rocky badge

New equipment is always fun

Their personal service is terminating as of the end of this or next year

Commercial offerings are still going to be available

clear igloo

Oh, yah

#

I switched over to the small business offering

slow pivot
#

I was debating that. But i might go with backblaze

rocky badge

I use FBackup and Macrium Reflect, Reflect is just imaging though.

slow pivot
#

I need offsite backups

#

Well, better than i currently have

rocky badge

Lol

clear igloo
#

Yah, I stuck with CrashPlan because moving 4TB of information is a pain

rocky badge
#

Not for you...

clear igloo
#

And I can use a VM to backup my NAS with crashplan since they don't do headless clients anymore

rocky badge
#

You have 10 gigabit locally and gigabit internet

clear igloo
#

Plus I have all my versioning backed up on CrashPlan

rocky badge
#

FBackup is nice, for something free

#

Reflect is amazing imo

#

For a lot of stuff

clear igloo
#

Yah, I use MirrorFolder

#

for local backups to the NAS

slow pivot
#

is currently using urbackup

rocky badge
#

is currently using nobackup

slow pivot
#

no, literally urbackup is an oss backup client/server solution ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

It's not bad, only issue is the offsite backups

high anchor
#

Do rsync is an option ?

rocky badge
#

@slow pivot I don't use any backup lol

slow pivot
#

eeeeh, urbackup uses hardlinks for files that haven't changed, and takes advantage of btrfs's de-duping, so unrolling a backup offsite with rsync is not realistic

#

@rocky badge You're gonna cry at some point because of that ๐Ÿ˜›

rocky badge
#

Lol

#

The only people gonna be crying is my parents

slow pivot
#

Why's that?

rocky badge

slow pivot

ahhh, gotchya, well that's sorta a backup

slow pivot

slow pivot

rocky badge

#

The photo share is mapped to all of the PCs

#

The data drive for documents is Z

slow pivot
