I have the UMC 404hd and I can use that with any PC or Mac.
Umc 22 is good though, 👍
I think I just want something that has a simple XLR mic input for the future, and a headphone out that can drive any “harder to run” headphones I may upgrade to in the future.
I would also like something that I can easily interact with via software for mic EQ and whatnot.
As far as I can tell based on research so far, the UMC universal drivers doesn’t play nice with some programs
you dont want an audio interface with that
they run with every program man
because they dont have drivers
its just windows generic drivers
confusion
so what do I need
Okay I clearly don’t know wtf I’m doing lol
I was under the impression that you could get like an all in one kinda deal but
I guess it’s not that big of a deal? Just get an amp whenever I decide to upgrade headphones too
interfaces are more for mics and low latency monitoring not for driving high impedance/low sensitivity headphones
there are interfaces that are very capable of doing that but they are typically very expensive
All good. Probably no use for me to buy an interface then until I’m ready to buy an XLR mic
Agree. If you are happy with what you have there's no reason to upgrade.
I would like a better mic setup but not urgently necessary atm
is there any way i can turn my hd560s into a wireless headset i need something that turns it wireless and also adds a good mic to it is there anyway i can do that for 100$
at that point get a hyperx cloud 3 wireless...
try looking for a wireless guitar system with stereo and a wireless attachable microphone
should i get a new pair of headphones? this is my current one because my double ear headset has its left side busted
hows the audio and mic on it
imaging is worse than HD 560S, but should have a mostly neutral sound profile with a little more bass
mic does the job
not thinking of replacing the hd560s but might get this for a vr setup
there are many people sharing their EQ profiles on the Cloud III online to help you get the sound you like, i.e. mimic the sound profile of DT 990s
Some interfaces can drive high impedance headphones. It’s just you’ll pay quite a bit for them.
There is no correlation between impedance and how hard it is to drive
You can have 50 Ohms impedance headphones being a whole order of magnitude harder to drive than a 300 Ohms one
oh God not this argument again
Time is a flat circle
you dont say
almost like I literally said that
really good for its price
is there anything i need to know coming from first gen airpods
its just earbuds man
i just haven’t upgraded since 2016 lol i think i should get an upgrade
ok fair
Not fitted together just yet. But this is what the front should look like
how much more is Moondrop MOCA?
hi my friend is in need of a new amp or cable for his xlr mic wondering is there a good budget for set.
like max 200 aud.
or should he go to a usb mic or something ?
double
If you have any way of measuring directivity when it's finished I'd be interested
I got a mic to do measurements with
Not sure if I can do that
Will do some research
It's not really easy to measure directivity
You'd need to draw a circle around the speaker and write angles then measure for each angle you want to measure the SPL at different frequencies lmao
Then compute all of this
You're asking a lot here
I know lmao

Looks like some kind of coax cable.
looks like an F connector
My subwoofer is woofering
I'm converting an old living room into a shared bedroom/home theater setup. I’ve got around £1,200 (GBP) to spend on an AVR + 5.1 speaker setup (TV is 48", LG 48B46LA).
The room has some awkward angles (like a diagonal door and windows on one wall), but I’ve made a layout with full measurements.
Goals:
Good immersive sound (mainly for movies, shows, youtube plus some music)
Wall-mounted TV + AVR-based setup (no soundbar)
I do have a bigger post with a bit more detail in what I'm after but don't want to clutter the channel, so if there's a better place I can post something like this please let me know 🙂
If anyone has recommendations for layout, budget AVR models, or speaker combos (I don’t mind mixing brands), I’d really appreciate it!
id recommend you search and join for a discord called sonic visions and ask there instead
i dont think we have any surround guys here
I wanted to ask if there were any boom mic cables for the hd560s which sound good
probably
any recommendations
any recs for cheap ahh mic arms here
innogear is okay
but its just a mic arm honestly go as cheap as you want
just pay attention to the size and clamp of the arm, dont get it if the clamp looks weak
i always go for a horn for the highs :)(for the mids and lows to if i could but lol)
bnc connectors
used for antenna, 10mbit token ring networking
and audio sometimes
What will be your source?
A pc?
@umbral charm without taking into account your layout here is some information :
-
1200GBP is a bit short for a good 5.1, especially without buying used
-
the most important thing for a 5.1 is having some room correction, usually you can have it directly inside your AVR. There are other ways to get it, the easiest one is if you are directly out putting everything from a PC
-
A subwoofer is really expensive... And usually two is really nice to have... But it does make such a big difference :p
-
surrounds absolutely don't need to be that good, not a whole lot of stuff is going there and it's not really stuff where you need high volume/quality
-
most of the sound comes out from the center channels in movie (you'd really be surprised how much this is true). You can either go for two good L/R without center or buy a good center, don't take a bad one.
-
if you are not alone the choice of center speaker type can be crucial to get good directivity so that other people hear things well, classic mtm center speakers have cancelation at certain angles horizontally. A coaxial center helps with that.
-
don't forget stuff are upgradable, you can buy a good avr that supports room correction and everything, then only 2 speakers then down the line add speakers, subs etc...
(I'm not saying to do that but yeah, keep it in mind)
Lastly, going up in prices after a certain point usually mainly means having more headroom in term of sound level, so if you are not that far nor do you listen at reference volume you'd be fine
I was just expecting to use the TV for everything, I haven't really thought about using another device for it as I thought it'd be more costly.
I'd be using the setup with my TV (LG 48B46LA), I didn't realise I could use a PC but not sure how awkward that would be as I use mine for gaming and other stuff quite often, but also not sure how it works, like is it cheaper to do that then pay for netflix and other services in 4K or what?
I do want to take advantage of room correction if the AVR Supports it, just knowing how to do it is all.
Ideally I wanted to get a 5.1 setup now unless the value is really poor, I was hoping to not wait months to add speakers. That said, how much more would you say I'd need to stretch based on what you said?
And do you think it's realistic to try do a decent 5.1 with that budget or no?
how can i reduce the sub bass outside my room because it seems to be louder below my room than it is in my room
if you stack dense acoustic foam it should help
i found some foam but i dont know what it is
its soft and the sub kinda sinks in after a month
im planning on selling this sub soon anyway im not really sure what to buy next
i just want something that plays lower than 38hz -3db
It just depends on how you do stuff, I have everything that comes from a Pc personally
And... Let's say I don't pay for Netflix and other services 🙂
And yes, the easiest way is to have the room correction inside the avr
It either needs to support dirac or audyssey but I believe for audyssey it needs to be "xt32" (if they didn't change the wording in the last few years)
I think that an avr checking all the boxes, especially the room correction part, is around 600-700€, but I don't check prices everyday
A subwoofer... It's expensive....
But it heavily depends on if you go used or not, for example I just bought some aria 948, they costs 4-5k eur brand new and I paid 1300€ used... But they are like new
Yeah for example the denon x2800h supports audyssey dynamic eq but the x3800h supports xt32 @umbral charm
BTW denon makes super good avr for the price usually, I personally have a 3700h
You can check audiosciencereview to see numbers on how good they are
How do you go about using your PC for streaming then? Cos if it's worth it then I'll have to try to look into it. Would be happy to take stuff to DMs if you were happy with that 😂
As for the gear, I was hoping to get some recommendations so I could possibly look around on marketplace and see if there was anything close by that I could look into - or just a general list overall that I could browse at
Depends on how important surrounds are, I may just have to stick with a 3.1 if that would be sufficient for the budget, although I do want surrounds so depends if I can fit them (based on the graph I sent), and how much they cost
Currently got this on my list to replace my old Samson Meteor Mic https://a.co/d/dR5eeIL
AM8 is a dynamic microphone with XLR and USB connector. The XLR mic, as well as the dynamic USB mic, pulls dual duty for both play and work. The studio recording microphone comes with controllable RGB, tap-to-mute, mic gain knob, headphones jack and monitoring volume control. You can start using ...
okay
what should i get for my friend he has a xlr phantom power mic
Behringer UMC22
bomge mini 2 channel
m-track solo
he uses at2020 xlr
This is the gear I went with:
Denon x1700H - 363 (opened never used from eBay)
Wharfedale 12.1 - 249
Wharfedale 12.C - 229
SVS SB 1000 Pro - 549
What's left is all the wires (not sure what I need at all)
Get a spool of Amazon basics speaker cable and some banana plugs. Or just the cable if you wanna save some money. The banana plugs make it easier to connect things but bare cable is perfectly fine.
Never used the bare cable so whatever is easiest

Sorry to clutter chat, Is this all I need?
That speaker cable is pretty heavy duty. I would personally use this type instead because it's gonna be easier to handle, strip, and won't coil as easily.
Idk why that's the eu version
Otherwise looks fine.
I placed the order already, could cancel if it's really worth it but otherwise Idk
Not sure if we even have strippers either
A wire stripped will be very useful. Or some very precise scissors or snippers
All you need is bare metal contacting the right places.
I assume this would be fine
Yeah
Probably couldve gotten away witha way smaller cable
Cos I'm just gonna have the avr directly under the tv, behind center speaker
I think that one is meant to be heavily shielded to go inside walls and whatnot.
If you're really annoyed you can probably strip the outer white cable
Should I just cancel it and grab the other cable
I think the time it takes you to cancel it will be less than the time it takes you to fuck with the cable and try to get it to lay flat.
Is there a different one to get, I was recommended to just get oxygen free
Oh yeah I hardly noticed that I linked copper coated aluminum. I remember Amazon doing OFC copper when I got it
Quality went down
https://amzn.eu/d/2hf9UD3 this one looks good but for a home theater 10 meters might be tight.
Tbh, the wires are literally gonna be really close together
Apart from the sub but that's a separate cable anyway (I assume)?
But the avr, center and speakers are all gonna be on the same desk
any cheap speakers and audio interface recommendations?
i was lookin at edifier mr4 but idk about audio interfaces
umc22
mr4 is a good pick
id stick to it
I'm looking to start with diy home audio, and I wanna start with building a sub with component parts and a simple soundbar
Do I need a receiver for the sub and bar?
The sub will have its own designated amp
Is your source going to be HDMI?
I wish universities would push to make abet accredited audio engineering programs. There aren't any at the moment and most universities instead treat their audio programs more like techs as a result. It'd be nice to see a uni make a program that's a mix of mechanical and electrical or electrical mechanical and material engineering as an audio engineering program.
It would clear a ton of misconceptions and pseudoscience that gets propagated in the audio space more than likely
you could probably find something to build into the soundbar to act as enough of a receiver but also youd probably do some signal processing in the sub so something that spits out the full signal into the sub input to it could work fine
@stuck bolt
pushed it with a small battery xd
literally the bass makes you unable to hear the music LOL
Nice
grr i have a song id play on that,,,
i cant wait to get a subwoofer again someday uh curse of not living with my parents anymore
I dont want to live with my parents
Atleast my dad
that is pretty evil
i was fine enough but grr im still pretty not ok sometimes but atm i have an apartment and i can only use bookshelf speakers/headphones because i dont wanna force everyone else listen to bass from my music
Anyone have any suggestions for good quality over ear headphones? I want something that has good sound quality and is durable, since all my previous ones have cracked badly on the sides
sennheiser hd 560 s
Do you guys have any good recommendations for a all in one speaker no more then $500
I am looking to buy IEM's for music and I am between the The Truthear Zero:RED, The Truthear Zero:BLUE 2 and the SIMGOT EW300, not that knowledgeable in the audiophile space and still quite new, do you guys know which I should get out of these or any other reccomendations between the 50-70 price range
I will be using them mostly for hifi music listening
I am going to get a dac for my phone and I use apple music
I really only care about how good they will be with music
Is this for a desktop, tv, portable speaker,
Desktop/car
desktop car?
Like speakers, I can hook up to a car, but still be used on a desk.
No, it's not common to have speaker that you "just hookup to your car whenever you feel like" in addition to a desktop computer inside your home. Like, technically one could get speakers that fit in the doors of your car which also work with an amplifier connected to a computer, but that would be a lot of things to move around whenever you wanted to change where you're listening to the speakers.
The closest thing would be a Bluetooth speaker you can connect your computer to at home, and then connect your phone to when you're driving in the car.
Would the speakers use on concert stages work
And I can't use A phone their is a no touch law
Don't wanna be annoying but can anyone help me out here
What is a Iem?
Oh I have some
Good for you
SENNHEISER IE 40 PRO is what I use at $99 With a wireless Monitor system.
Uhf is the system
Huh
Sure, if they're battery powered and they have connections that your input / source devices support.
@civic beacon Do you have a brand suggestion
Nope. I don't use anything in the concert stage industry. Closest thing I ever regularly used way back in the day were sets of these: https://yorkville.com/batterypowered/
@turbid lake what's wrong with it?
From what ive seen most people that have the blue 2 don't really like it, treble needs specific tips or the stock foam ones to be usable
I have the zero:red and they aren't the most resolving, but they do have a very comfortable sound profile
Can't say about the other one
?
You said huh so I thought their was something wrong
@turbid lake You seem like a good person to ask about Iems is there a over ear equivalent
Uhh
For my desktop I use the senheiser 560s on my desktop
They are pretty much the best you can get in that price range
Note: you aren't unlocking their full potential without using a separate headphone amp
If you get a decent amount with those headphones you'll be good for a while
Thinks
a while as in 2 years
then you can't buy the right earpads necessary for useful sound
Yes
I was thinking maybe using an arc and splitting the signal
You plan on building your own speakers?
Yeah probably
I've wired tons of 12v DC speakers and amps for cars
So I can def wire a sub driver and plate amp myself
does anyone know if the Sennheiser IE 400/500 replacement cable would fit the IE 40 Pro ? 🤔
the cable looks very similar but I'm not sure if it's complete match
what does 'gng' mean? 😄
gang as in group
okay
how are you
I'm good, just got home after some boxing
I'm Finnish
woow
so Finland, the Nordic wonderland
yes we do, for around 4-6 months, depending on how the weather acts
have a good day
you too man
thanks : )
Interesting, swapped to real leather pads on my Audeze LCD-2 Classics, the installation guide said to not put in the felt spacers on the Classics, however mine had them from the factory? Removing them seems to have made the bass response way better.
Sounds more like the actual 2009 LCD-2s now
Is it worth the upgrade form the pulse 3d
What's wrong with your pulse 3d?
I've had them for about 4yrs and they don't have the best battery anymore
@lean grove other than that they have been good
If you like them, then you should probably get another or get the pulse elite.
I don't know what the latest hotness is right now for wireless gaming headsets but there's a reviewer called GadgetryTech who makes really good reviews. So watch a few of his videos and see if there's anything he recommends that fits your needs.
Yall, I gotta program the JAB5 and the BDM9 and then have them talk to each other over i2s
I don't like programming
Is there a known fix for EAC crashing when selecting a folder? Or am I just doomed to using one default folder and manually moving and compressing the files myself?
Room mode at 200Hz, it really is insane to feel irl
Been playing with synthesizers in college.
A fellow 49 "user"
I dont know how to play the piano...i just own a controller...
It's not mine. It belongs to the college.
I do have my own synthesizer though.
I think I have a Gen 3 Oxygen49
This is my own from home.
the closest things I have to synthesizers are a function generator and a cheap stylophone
does monophonic mean one sample, or one simultaneous note?
or just "not stereo"
as someone who doesnt actually play the piano, "stereo" pianos are fluff
Monophonic means it can only play one note at a time. So it's not polyphonic.
i had a feeling that was it
As for recording, I use this machine.
looks like a tape deck
It is
It has a digitally controlled solenoid mechanism.
No auto reverse though.
Might be a good thing
i got numark m4 audio mixer eris 4.5bt and eris 8inch bt sub
What makes it a good thing?
damm bro
hello guys and girls, got a question, im a FPS guy and i need a pair of cans: Fractal Scape or Steelseries Arctis Nova pro? Currently I use a ton of IEMS (Truthear Blue2 and Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lite) and I miss the cans, I got a love and hate relationship with my HD660s2 tho.

HD599
require to be wireless and bt cause of work
does anyone know if DBX is a good audio brand i cant find much online
i got a relitivley cheap eq from DBX it is a DBX 231s model
try a 8580r5
COOMER!
then the ym2608 would be more... diverse
eh i dont generally like recommending wireless gaming headsets, cause... theyre not that great
but if you dont mind eq'ing, the nova pro will do just fine
What headphones should i get for the gym, im thinking about the 660nc. They are only 75
Euro for me right now
Budget 75-130
Using a iPhone 15 would this be good enough for small vlogs or short live streams
Yea definitely
This bitch just died on my
thats what i say after i do someones mom
is it like sweetwater tech support
Ive never needed Sweetwater tech support tho so idk
good answer
sweetwater support tries hard to make themselves look like the good guys to a customer, as well as getting the customer to blame themselves or think they were being unfair
and they are really good at it
if you were to draw any parallels between crutchfield and sweetwater, well your wallet would be in big trouble
maybe crutchfield is a lot smaller and would need to be authentic with their customer support in order to gain trust
at any rate, businesses will do whatever makes them the most money
I’m looking to upgrade my audio setup like Linus did for cheap. Should I use this receiver and he’s selling a subwoofer with it?
I’m not familiar with audio, some guidance on speakers as well would be great
Or even picking up something like this
dude that's awesome
grr does every ported speaker have port noise or something or am i just unlucky
ive had ported speakers and subs and every time i can easily get some port noise out of them grr
almost every time but i guess the compromise was bass that went too low or something idk for their uh size hhhh words hard (currently in an apartment gr)
im bad at thinking straight but i hate port noise and i cant escape it most of the time
its at my desk
tbh i need surround at my desk
it would be amazing
Im not expert with audio tech so I need some help sorry, do I need dac for my iem(truthear zero blue 2), and Im planning to use them for gaming specially for console and mostly for fps games?
Just bought a b750d open box from best buy but how would it compare to the amazon fire tv soundbar kit
The Amazon one has actual rear speakers and I may want to return this b750d
Is there any coming back from this?
Wow that picture is bad one sec
Thing snapped in my laptop
Yeah that may be tricky to remove
I have a hand solder with a few head variants, but idk how to get it out without destroying it
How does one go about it?
You buy a male aux or reuse one from a cable you don't use, cut the wire, cut wire on your broken aux, remove rubber from le cables, solder the wires, isolate them and that's about it
Ah, so regarding the broken Aux bit, is there a way to reattach it functionally?
The connector itself probably possible but i would personally find it easier to do the replacement + wire method
Would I need Solder paste for the wires? I lack them atm
I might try and melt the broken piece together and hope, though I'd be surprised if that works. I'm not quite proficient with welding lol
probably but its incredibly infeasible
just watch a yt video
if you have flux core solder then no
if not then yes
Do you atleast have solder wire
yeah you need solder lol
soldering iron
send a picture of it
Do you have any metals that the hot iron can melt and the metal has to not have many impurities
dont man just let the man buy some solder it costs 10$
at a bad that at that
just grab any flux core solder and a 3.5mm jack
maybe some heatshrinks, you should be set
Hot iron :d
It looks nearly identical to this
Same brick I believe
Holder is also blue
This and a few tip-variants are all I got
how many degrees does it go up to
and are the tips worn out
The one tip might be due to using it to weld 3D Prints together (Super effective but wear an appropriate respirator), and it goes up to I want to say ~700f?
should be enough
way more than enough
yeah just get some flux core solder, heatshrinks and maybe helping hands to hold down the wires
also a 3.5 jack
can anyone suggest good headphones for a 100-110$?
my priority is sound quality, bluetooth, good battery life
Currently I'm fixated on the sony ult wear, but further input on this would help me a lot
you just need something cheap, apple 3.5mm dongle is the common recommendation
well fuck I stepped on my iems and the pins broke off stuck inside the earphone
oof
I don't think I can salvage it
no
if you have jewelry type tools ive heard of people drilling them out
like you would with a broken bolt but with a tiny head
but probably not very easy to attempt
you'd need a very tiny hss bit
and something to fix the drill with
ideally a drill press
I don't think you understand how tiny those individual audio plugs are
it's beyond tiny
trust klaus when he says he knows how to handle tiny objects
this man is a sounding engineer
all i hear is that it's time to buy new top of the line iems
I'm looking to get a new set of wireless "gaming" (with a mic included) headphones.
I have very little knowledge of audio equipment, and just want some recommendations. Maybe $120 or so. I have tried doing my own research, But all the recommendations I find online are sponsored. And I don't trust AI for good recommendations.
I dont think you understand how precise precision machinery is
believe it not civilization has achieved the ability to drill milimeter thick holes in the last few million years
jeezus
guess why :D
I'm all the way in the Caribbean, it'll be expensive to ship
ah
alrighty
i asked causeee
😆
i have a 12" as you can see
welllll
2 12"
but different wattage and everything
one is magnat, other is monacor
I'm sure you can get a speaker kit online, depending on your location
unsure
And with some glue and claps you can build something cool
but is it fine if 2 12" is connected?
I decided to go the most difficult route because I'm stupid
Not sure
Ah
other one is a power bull 300 from magnat
im blasting the logitech rn xd
also i have something we call a rice pio
I had some issues with programing the amps DSPs I'm gonna have ti figure that out this week
🤷🏽♂️
cause it looks like it has rice grains XD
but its unusable
cracked membrane, possibly blown coil
:,(
also
the membrane is so dry its literally coming apart in small pieces
🙏
r.i.p.
this bad boi
is this a good one?
actually i just realised..
i cant use both
my amp can only do 350w..
Oh
I guess
but i havent used them in so long
It's possible that the voice coil is damaged or seized
oh my goddd
should i try to power it?
or no
but like
its the hardest near the cables
but dude
it doesnt even smell burnt
does anyone know a good surround brand
Hey guys i'm hoping I Can get your help/recommendations. I've had the Logitech Artemis g933 for the last 6 years and really enjoyed it as a headphone, as far as i'm aware the sound quality is nice and the mic is functionally absolutely perfect. I have adhd so having a mic that doesn't unplug and get lost is wonderful and having it flip up into the headphone is both convenient for the auto mute, but also wonderful for not accidentally being rough on the mic like one might be if its externally mounted
Any recommendations on replacements? Mine is getting a little long in the tooth and the ear caps and head band are starting to wear out
Does anyone know where I can get recommendations for good Bluetooth earbuds to use for Android?
bring some iems
Wanted my new Kali Audio WS-6.2 to match my Adam Audio A7V Studio Monitors. First time working with automotive vinyl wrap.
Turned out pretty damn good.
Nice desk pad
tbh nice desk pad
Looks good though, how did you do with the edges, I know that can be a bit difficult to get right sometimes
I suggest making edge/bevel jig.
Cut a 90° corner out of a scrap of wood and take a thin kerf blade (jigsaw or hand saw would be fine.) And slot a pitched (15-30°) slot tight, 45° to the inside corner of the 90°. (By hand is fine to steep and the blade and bind to shallow and it might want to glide over.
The further from the corner the thicker and deeper the edge cut.
Take a new SHARP razor and wrap a few layers of tape around both ends (electrical works well) so the blade fits snug in the slot. Adjust to desired depth of cut.
(Side note: if you start the jig by drilling a hole where the corner of the 90° will meet it will make space to remove the vinyl waste removed.
I found a picture of something similar for wood but the blade on this product would be much too thick for vinyl to not grip.
But I did mine by hand with a razor. (I don't suggest that unless you have the experience to be confident in not really messing it up)
Does anyone run a rode podmic and a fifine aduio controller?
does anybody know how i can watch netflix with 5.1 surround sound? it works in the windows test and tests on chrome, however, it does not want to work in netflix. i have my denon avr 1312 connected to my 1080 ti via hdmi.
on windows 11 btw, don't know if that matters

im not sure if netflix supports 5.1
it does
try using a apple tv or somthing
I don't have anything like that, just a pc
And I made sure the content had surround sound
Netflix app from microsoft store try that
Or edge
I hate edge
Well it says only the app and edge support 5.1 🤷♂️
k
When you download Netflix from the Microsoft store it will just run in edge, but present itself as an app, but I've tried both
i just bought the kbear 4core cable alongside a splitter so i could use it for discord etc but the mic wont work and when i use the splitter i lose stereo sound, any ideas on how to solve this?
managed to fix it but i dont have stereo sound now
im dumb and just had to press the cable in further
i felt resistance so i didnt want to
i got a eq but i have not really got any idea how to set it up
it has 31 bands but i cant decide how to put it
I do woodworking and I've worked with vinyl and other stuff
Looks good.
Wired up and running Adam audio a7v and Kali Audio WS-6.2 sounds great.
So i bought a pair of Hifiman Sundaras back in 2021 and they finally crapped out on me. Any recommendations for closed-back headphones of a similar price point/quality?
Fiio FT1
Get some small stands for your speakers.
sick setup bro
Do i want to set this to never go above 0
the clip light can come on sometimes when the light goes past 0db
yeah
at full volume it seems to sometimes flash on to +10
only when playing files like wav nothing through streaming apps
Might be hard to tell. They are on isolation pads and right at ear level.
Unless you're suggesting for another reason.
Ah, didn't know they'd be at ear level judging by your monitor placement
did the pads come with the speakers
i could do with some new stands for my speakers
I gotta find or build some stands for my speakers. They probably weigh like 80lbs
That's 36kg
my speakers weigh 20kg each
same
The two subs in the rear weigh 12kg
awful to carry because there isnt any good position to hold them from

they are quite light for the size
Have you considered going in ear monitors? I recently started buying a few and they are much cheaper so you can play with fun new toys more often. lol
just cheap light speakers really i will upgrade in a few years when i need to
they are good enough for now
the sub for them is 40kg
I've been using cheap and weird monitors for years now
ft1s are worth it
In each studio
im just talking about my pa speakers
they say they can do 250 watts rms each but i like my hearing ive never taken them over 200
😆
i mean i can do 200 watts per channel unless i change how i wire them
then its 300
the amp weighs the same as one speaker
Right now I'm using some marine speakers and a sub from an old home theater set
im looking at a new sub i dont need much i was looking at used svs 1000 pro
Oh
the other option which is more suited to the setup would be the wharfedale dvp-ax18b 18
i think thats the right one
I can't remember what the name is but there was a pretty awesome sub that was really affordable too
One sec
the whardedale has a spl of 132db at 1m
not very important i only need up to around 115
the sub will be used with my bedroom setup too i used it for pa and in my room
thats why i cant decide if i want to go full pa sub or just keep like home theatre stuff because it never really gets loud enough
You can also be limited by room size when it comes to frequency
Ah, so you kinda move around
im in the uk
apparently it could be around 15 square meters but thats the smallest
is there a place where i can buy a 240 volt subwoofer amplifier for a reasonable price
the passive subs are much easier to buy
i see amps like the Yamaha P5000S that can apparently do 2600 watts at 4 ohms
Yes! lol
When companies ship things they got to pick a packaging that is capable of taking an impact and surviving the abusive shipping process. This requires calculations for the weight of the speaker (in this case) and the foam density protecting it.
All I did was cut a layer of felted pad and glued it to the foam to make it easier to move on the table top.
im guessing it can not sustain that
probably around 600 sustained
i can buy a Wharfedale s1500 amplifier and run it bridged for a sub i think
it just cuts below 30hz
i already have a s1000
wait so did you get them with the speakers or did you cut them to size
the amplifier says "1500W/4Ω (1% THD at 1kHz)" bridged im not sure if that means peak or it can continuously output
Are you running a venue or something?
no i just use it for house parties

its nothing that needs very good quality sound it just is missing a lot of bass
thats why ive been buying old pa amps
You'll be surprised on how an effective a small sub can be in a large enclosed space when placed right
i mean the sound is fine but its nothing like my more expensive stuff
i have a dali e9f i use in my room
it was reaching its limits last time
i only just got a decent eq to sort out the sound a bit
Just had to go double check the box, make sure I was accurate in my reporting. They shipped in a white version of the same foam. I had some black of the same density kicking around.
Especially if the room is isolated. SPL of the kali audio ws-6.2 (6"x 2 woofers) is incredible and clean sounding in my space. Really feel it in my body without shaking things off the wall. lol
And the less mass the woofers have the faster they can respond not needing to overcome inertia of the mass of a larger heavyweight cone/driver.
Well my speakers are all sealed so it's 👌
I might make my own sub
I've got some pretty big home theater stuff like the Monitor Audio ASW 210 (2x10") and currently using Energy speakers reference connoisseur system with their ESW-C10 and they hit hard.
But, the Kali dual 6" just sound so clean.
I'm looking at building my own 15 inch or 18 I want a deeper sub though
I mean the box not the speaker its self
I was about to say, that's beyond my sound engineering knowledge. lol
im sure i could make my own subwoofer if i wanted to i have access to very big lathes and mills
im not going to though
would the "Dayton Audio Ultimax UM18-22" be decent
Box building is fun, especially sealed boxes. Getting the dimensions just right for a space like in car audio.
I was determined to build a box flush with the floor in the back of my 2008 Rav4. Had to build a box in a box, forming MDF to fit the space and having the technical box fit inside that one for the right cubic ft of space for the dual Alpine Type-X 10" V.2 woofers.
Was a fun challenge don't know if I'd do it again lol.
would that kind of sub work for in the house
it would not fit in my car because my 12 inch sub struggles
Has anyone here repaired a BASH amp before?
I have a sub with a dead amp. Not sure if I should just get a new amp or try to repair
Fuses don’t seem to be the solution
Work* It's possible. Lol but ideal? Probably not.
When I was 13 I got my hands on a used car system and ran the whole thing on a few PC power supplies in my bedroom. Jank as heck but it worked great for a teenager throwing parties. lol
it would have a similar spl and power draw to the pa subwoofers
and because im making it that means i could put speakon and bare wire connectors so i can use any amp
thats some impressive cutting on your part
I dont think the subwoofer is meant for car audio
My bad, I thought you were talking the Alpine stuff.
Crack it open, (assuming it's out of warranty) and see if anything looks burnt.
If something stands out as damage try to identify it and have some fun soldering. lol
They make a wide range of products
Nothing looks burned
Damn
got any idea of quality?
No idea unless you have a part number handy
Dayton Audio UM18-22 18" Ultimax DVC Subwoofer 2 ohms Per Coil Dayton Audio UM18-22 18" Ultimax DVC Subwoofer Experience the Apex of Subwoofer Design With the UM18-22 Ultimax 18" driver, Dayton Audio has taken everything about the respected Dayton Audio Ultimax subwoofers to the extreme! im in the uk
If it isn't visual you could get into probing resistances on the traces on the board. But you're talking a whole new hobby at that point. lol
Yeah I don’t have much EE experience at all
A new sub amp from HSU is $250 I think
ive seen pre made subs are so expensive
ill have to figure out an amp too
Id want the amp seperate and I dont want it to be crazy expensive
Budget audio is so competitive these days for the quality it produces. Let alone the price of aftermarket used audio gear.
I find it hard to justify the labor for custom audio UNLESS it's for the fun and experience. I'm all for learning new stuff.
i would love a separate subwoofer power amplifier but they are so pricey
And used can be a risk too.
i swear all behringer stuff is just a scam
advertises like 5000 watts but can only run 200

I kinda like behringer, not all of their products are good, but what's good are affordable
i would buy one of their amps for my sub but i dont know if its a good idea
i dont want to spend too much on the amp
Crown amps
oh ive been recommended a few of them
why does it can say it can output 1000 watts but on the back says input 250 watts
I've been rocking an audio technica headphones for almost 10 years now
Typed it again. Sorry.
Sennheiser 600 series would be worth considering for a good reference experience. The Drop 6XX is budget friendly, but your planar experience might disappoint in the bass if you like the bass loud.
focal elex with clear pads would be worth looking into as well.
With both Focal and Sennheiser tho I'd expect a much longer lifespan in my experience. But I'm also not abusive or a sweaty boy. So your experience might be different.
I've been running the Focal clear MG Professional daily on the Drop THX AAA 789 since 2021 and no issues.
The Moondrop Dawn Pro powers them on the go no problem.
Tho I'm also running TRUTHEAR x Crinacle Zero: RED (without the bass boost dongle) and those are extremely affordable even with the moondrop dac/amp.
Tho if I was investing in one cheaper IEM I'd probably go for TRUTHEAR HEXA
My next set I'm looking for used or on steep discount is THIEAUDIO Hype 4
I tend to like high energy music when im on the go so I thought the TRUTHEAR x Crinacle Zero: RED with it's bass boost dongle would be nice but damn that 10 Ohm impedance adapter to further increase the bass is so freaking over kill.
you can just bypass the amp and run it passively
Thought about it. Current amp was about 600w peak. Could move to a Hypex.
doubt its a high enough rating to be an issue
but then again you could give it to a repair dude and he'd probably fix it for you
Thank you very much :D in regards to lifespan the drivers themselves are fine and all, one little piece of plastic sheared in half and apparently is structurally integral to the entire headset :(
Just had a memory pop up on my phone from when my kid requested a pair of headphones but really wanted this set regardless of sound or quality.
But after they got them they sent me this picture to let me know how happy they were with their new headphones. lol
waste of money
lol
Measurements of my dac with up converter off vs on
i need good headphones for gaming, idc wired or not. I need bass, precision and clear audio. budget is 1000£ and under. Anyone got a good recommendation?
Is 28€ for jbl earbuds good?
LMAO
I've been using the 770 version of this for a long time. Try these https://a.co/d/hOuEZEs

I should be selling my airpods pro 2 (hot garbage on android)
Thinking of either going back wired with kz prx or zsn pro
Or continue wireless, but frankly speaking nothing seems to be "balanced" that i can find
im using the nothing (a) buds and theyre supposed to be decent
Ive tried the nothing ear1, they seem to be acceptable, but the highs feel noisy, lows and mids sounded fine to me
Sony xm4s sounded too harsh and bassy, probably my favourite and anc is great but again bass is harsh on them
Ive used the kz zsn pro and its almost perfect, also cheap asf
But not sure if i wanna get it over something with anc/transparency mode
They make life a lot easier
i think tws iems you cant really compare Apple 2 pros since theyre one of the best on the market and double the price of the nothing ones
not sure abt the first statement tho
the sound profile is just not your type?
They do sound phenomenally great, very loud as well (100db is insane) but details are not very good, and well, majority of features (and sound) just dont work like they do on iphones
I switched to an s24+ few weeks ago and it has become unbearable, the problems outweigh the goodness of the sound and anc performance
Niki Lauda lol
That's nico rosberg. and his champagne face
Damn, couldn't tell the difference
He looks a lot like niki in this pic, somewhat tricky
Thanks!
Maybe like jbl tune buds or tune buds 2
hi
Few questions: do you require closed back headphones because there are people you don't want to annoy with your headphones?
With that budget would you be hoping to get more audiophile sound for music and just have gaming functionality?
If so what kinda sound do you like? Bass heavy or more accurate technical sound?
Would you like to go mobile with or without Bluetooth? If you do require Bluetooth because you don't have a headphone jack that changes a ton of things.
But if it's purely gaming and only gaming you care about. You don't need to spend that much money.
If you are purely interested in PC gaming I'd consider a good pair of headphones and a separate mic with that budget.
With that much budget I'd assume you want quality music, you did mention Bass I'd consider just watching reviews on headphones for your taste of music and slapping a modmic or modmic wireless
ModMic Wireless delivers full DVD quality sound with blistering aptX enhanced speeds 5 times faster than standard Bluetooth. With increased speed and data, ModMic delivers a broadcast quality signal unheard of in wireless microphones. The 12+ hour battery can be charged while in use, ensuring you never miss a moment. this dude recommended sundaras in 2025
what are best headphones for like immersive movie watching and single player games
have the 560s but feels lacking in bass area
sounds feels very flat to me
eq
When I try to eq the sounds just feels unnatural idk how to describe it
Idk maybe im push bass futher than headphones can handle or something
The fiio ft1 might be better for you
But it's closed back
However it undoubtedly has more bass than the 560s while being tuned similarly.
don't know if i should ask here, but does anyone know any good bluetooth earphones without the rubber tips for everyday use?
i 've been using mi tw earphones 2 basic for the past 1,5 years (longer if i count my old pair) and i really liked them, but know the battery in them has started to go down in under an hour and it's getting ridiculous, so i gotta switch
preferably under 55 usd though i would be willing to get up about 85 usd
Wdym without rubber tips?
will check them out
without these, i can't stand them in my earphones/earbuds, they never seem to fit my ear well
so something closer to this
Gotcha. Take a look at the moondrop pill or moondrop block
ty, will take a look
Sundaras are pretty underwhelming imo
I never understood their hype
2nd cheapest planar headphones
but that changed fast over time
ig they are still cheap but xs is so much better for now being priced at around the og sundara price
He560v4 is much cheaper and leagues better imo than sundara
I still need to try xs
Maybe I can buy it with student aid next semester lol
Over a thousand fucking dollars and it's bare 3d printed plastic
SLS nylon
so not your grandma's 3d printed plastic
I got to demo it at a convention and its actually really nice. very stiff, very comfy. only thing there is to complain about really is the odd impedance behavior and the swivel is a bit stiff
Is telling me it's laser'd nylon meant to justify the cost?
It's still bare 3d printed plastic
the cost is justified that its a small-batch hand-made boutique headphone
if it were hand-carved from wood i dont think you'd have the same emotions. but the 3d printed nylon is a pretty good option if you dont have the tens of thousands of dollars to invest in plastic injection moulding
of the genre of hand-made boutique headphones that ive tried, this one is easily the best in sound and build quality

Tbh, I do think it'd be better to metal plate a resin printed chassis in order to avoid the cost of injections. I get why they don't, since it adds weight, but resin is probably the best looking and most premium printing option.
hi
should i get xm4s secondhand for 150 or xm5s for 250
xm4
I want to buy a new headset(including mic) for my pc, got about 300 euro's to spend. I'd like it to be wireless but don't know what's the best option. Any suggestions?
HI
FI
give it more of a chance. you're probably not using a q value or knee frequency suitable for a clean boost
requires experimentation
personally I'm more of an 80hz q0.5-q1 guy
high shelf duck
also no, the fiio ft1 is very different from the 560s in sound
different breed of headphones
you'll gain tightness and overall volume in the bass but lose texture and some impact
not a fan personally
So I'm looking at improving my room acoustic for my HT
To do that I have planned a few things :
For bass, I bought a second sub that will be in diagonal from the first one to counter room modes at low frequency
For higher frequency (100-120Hz+), i'll buy some absorber/disperser to attenuate reflections a bit, my room is a bit echoing right now
However, for frequencies between the subs crossover (will probably be 60-80Hz I guess) and 100-110Hz I don't know what to do
I guess the best would be some helmholtz resonators at 90Hz but I don't know if one would be enough, don't know where to buy one too
From my measurements the 80-100Hz is filled with room modes
Any advices ?
Do you have a measurement mic @glad creek
I do have a umik 1 yes
I'm not so versed in acoustics, I only know the basics, but some really smart guys in the server next to my name might be able to help you
I went there and asked, we'll see
You should put the Y axis between 40-110, it's not really readable like that
and X between 20-20k
Will do when my laptop back up
I'm just talking about the readability of the graph, not that much about how to read it
Will do, I gotta mess with REW a bit more
go to rew
do individiual left and right sweeps
average out several measurements
give the graphs a bit of smoothing
go to autoeq
use a harman in room target you found on internet
select cutoff point of bass
export as a .txt
load into apo
I have a room correction software integrated in my AVR, and it is arguably better than rew autoEQ (audyssey xt32)
The thing with EQ is that it won't correct room mode
This was a sine wave at 90Hz (don't really remember the Hz value tbh)
When moving slightly it gains like 15dB
For a home theater it's not great because you don't have only one listening position
Audysseyxt32 does make the EQ while taking into account all channels and ... i believe 7 listening position, but it's not magic, if I have room modes they'll still be here
take multiple positions into your account then?
its not rocket science, sample from several locations
get the average
and it will do the same thing
Well yes, but then I'd rather just use audyssey xt32, it works well
I was more talking about physical room treatment
skill issue
HELLO
is it normal to not be able to hear the diffrence between anything 128kbps audio or higher?
What codec 128 kbps
because the quality level is generally pretty different depending on the codec, encoder settings, etc
but even like AAC 128kbps vbr is not that uncommon to not hear a difference to lossless
HELLO
excuse me guys
When I'm using my pulse 3d headphones and plug in another USB. It cuts out how do I fix it
Birb
@white gate studio tour?
Is this a decent deal for a used one?
I think they did drop the new price to ~£400 after discontinuing it
what are some good closed backs
I like my 560s but my household to loud for openback
ft1
literally any IEM over fiio ft1 still
has anyone ever built their own subwoofer box before
no
only on paper 😭
My bose qc buds 2 got water damaged. I have the option of getting new bose earbuds ultra for $100 direct from bose but I'm seeing mixed reviews of them. Are they worth it or are there any better options?
can i just get something like this and do LFE for the sub
welp im doing this, if someone else has this issue here is a reddit thread i did not read before asking https://www.reddit.com/r/logitech/comments/kq2jtn/how_to_use_the_logitech_z523_subwoofer_standalone/
Hi I have a g pro headset and when I do the playback loop test it hurts my ears. I’m so confused as to why it doesn’t work. Suggestions on what I should select in audio settings? Also idk what I should do because it doesnt work at all.
what is the playback loop test, what does it mean for it to not work
like it just tests playback of my mic
doesnt matter because jt doesnt work
I gotta get stands for them so they can go in the correct orientation
the proportions here are hilarious
o.O
I’m looking at the iFi Zen DAC V2 to use with the dt 770 pro x headphones
Idk a lot about audio equipment so bear with me
But is it a decent dac
No it is not a great dac/amp and it's expensive
For this price you could get something way better
But tbf it's overkill to have such a high budget with a dt770 which isn't the best itself
I'd recommend you a topping dx1, there are other goods dac/amp at this price range and even for less than that too
HELLO
hello bot
HELLO
Hello there
Do you have a recommendation for headphone as well?
It depends on the whole budget for both, also I'm not sure i'll have because prices depends on where you live
The dx1 is 100 (usd)
And dt770 pro x is 200 (USD)
Around 200 usd for headphones would be my budget
fiio ft1
is there a benefit to using a larger aux size (in this case the 4.4 vs the 3.5 mm jack)
4.4 is balanced and 3.5 is single ended
4.4 is beneficial in that it can deliver more power to your headphones if you need it
ohh ok
and headphone amps ive seen with balanced outputs are generally are slightly worse on the single ended output
you were looking at zendac yeah?
im looking at the topping dx1
zendac was the better choice dont go topping lol
on paper it looks better (and is cheaper) than the zen
yeah
audio science review papers
those guys are clowns outside of their own community
having numerical accuracy with instruments that are correct enough 99% of the time isnt meaningful to anyone
aside from them ig
if you want a dac/amp
I advise apple dongle as the dac
and a zen can for the amplifier
zen can is very good, to my knowledge its the cheapest class A amplifier available if that hasn't changed
(not the air version)
Realistically @abstract fox you can hold off on buying a dedicated DAC/amp. The fiio ft1 isn't hard to power.
If they're too quiet, hear hissing or cracks/pops/computer noises then a dedicated amplifier would be warranted. But you don't need anything fancy for them.
There are clean DAC/amps that you can get for like $20
Zen DAC is not class A.
zen can
Zen can what? use complete sentences
ohh the hissing cracks and pops / audio artifacting is caused by low power? so an amplifier is needed atp
fuck you
It's caused by a dirty power supply or a poorly build DAC section or amp section
nah
ok i have those with my current headphones and i thougtht it was them dying
usb ones?
theyre like 6 yrs old
i have 3.5 into splitter into a sound card
sound card is dying then
damn
i did get it used
or the power source of the sound card
its directly in my pcie slot
which receives power from the psu
which receives power from the wall
the problem can be in any of those things
yea
pcie, psu or house grounding
psu is a year old
age doesnt really matter for psus
true
its only whenever i change the volume with the control thats on the actual headset wire
i have the razer kraken X
@stuck bolt
I've been summoned
Oh nice
guess the price
Hmm, like $80? Probably 60
Oh nice deal
yeahhh
I'd put some more stuffing inside and with a sub, they're banging
hey im pushing a lot of sub bass through my headphones out of a receiver should i worry about blowing them? they seem to take it fine but theres like definitely a lot of movement and i dont know if one day ill hit a low note and have them smoke out or something. thanks :3
If you're using EQ then it might be something to worry about. If so, use a headphone power calculator to see how much bass power you're pushing into them.
Your headphones should also have an upper spec for how much power they take. I think generally among dynamic headphones it's like 100-300 mW. For planars it's usually 1000 milliwatts or more.
woah planars can take more
i do have a dd though uh let me find one of these calculators also i do eq quite heavily
also GRRRRR i also learned my dac is adding distortion since i feel like it cant be my headphones or amp since it happens even at low volume
but hhh it takes so much to fix eq wise and its only for a handful of songs but still
i think ill just suffer though
ill worry about it though but uh ill just be wary
Yeah they have thicker wires and aren't as mechanically complex. There are some dynamic headphones out there meant for DJing that can take like 8000 mW or something stupid.
awrf kef garage speakers my beloved,,
also man uh good speakers are insane these things rival my advents and theyre like half the size and maybe they need a subwoofer if you wanna nuke yourself with like 25hz but otherwise man they do good hhh shshdhdhshshdh
what headset should i get for gaming and music? i have a budget for 165 usd
Does anyone here have the nothing headphones?
I wanted to ask how the mic quality was in comparison to other headsets.
Nobody did a preview that I could find.
What's your dac?
how much were those? the drivers seem pretty high end
anyone have a creative t100 speaker? I am looking to upgrade from the base creative pebble and the t100 looks to be a decent upgrade for someone who mostly watches shows/plays story-driven games
I really need to see if I can set up a MAX for my amp because my dumbass smartphone (through dlna) somehow decides sometimes to up the sound
And if I go above 75% on the amplifier it starts to be so stupidely dangerous
Say, anyone have recommendations on some good quality and not superbly expensive earbuds? Wireless is preferred (assuming this just means a wire connecting from earbud to earbud), but not necessarily mandatory, USB-C if able, and this is nitpicky, but also don't rub plastic against you a lot. I am looking for something that is comfortable to use as well
Ty for any inputs
moondrop space travel @restive rivet
schitt modi
theyre from the 80s uh with inflation i think they were like 2500$ new but someone threw them away so i got them for free
there was a local pair for 175 though that i saw once
but theyre insane speakers uh really so much old stuff is so good its insane seeing people drop that money on new stuff thats made like garbage grr
my speakers have REAL WOOD ITS WILD but modern cheaper stuff sucks and could never dream of real wood,,
"real" wood isn't that perfect too, you don't control the density or wood as well as other material
Newer stuff can be really good too, but yes you need to not take cheap stuff indeed
I'd be curious to see some measurement of your speakers though, but I guess you don't have a measurement mic (otherwise you would have probably already sent us the data haha)
That's real wood
Mahogany face.
newer stuff is probably good but i probably wont spend over 300-400 on a pair of speakers and on the used market that does insane things mm
also i dont have a measurement mic but also i eq so much that it would be worthless but they are the best sounding pair of speakers i have(tragically tied with my nlas that i cant use anymore)
oh also mine have a teak veneer apparently but its never seen any restoring products since it was thrown on there i guess
I like working with teak
Cumaru is also very similar looking to some types of teack when shellac
airpods pro 2 are the best wireless earbuds bar none
they cant ever be wired tho it's only wireless
curse of airpods
grr i wish i had wireless stuff that went insane but they age poorly so i suppose im happy
Anybody have a good budget tv soundbar recommendation?
I can get the creative t100 and edifier r1280ts for the same price
I'm leaning towards the more compact t100
I mostly watch shows/YouTube or play RPGs
So voice clarity is what I care most about
Any reason to get the edifier instead?
creative likes their speakers overly bassy and would emphasize little upon clarity or extensions
edifier's are usually very accurate and/or is also very boring
you can choose which you like
you can always get any of them and then eq to something you want
but for someone who's new or dont know what they like, this might be too much work
id suggest going edifier just to be safe
although for the r1280 model, i don think its any better than the creative ones as they are both very warm speakers
just get whichever is cheaper
Right now I have the base creative pebble
I usually keep it at 20% volume, so volume isn't the issue
I want the voice to be clearer/sharper
Also, how about the edifier P12?
p12 requires amplifier
i wouldnt recommend it unless youre willing to spend more
Oh ok
T100 and r1280ts are around the same price
But the t100 is thinner which is better for me since my desk is small
For voice, if there isn't a significant difference between the two, the t100 seems better
Do you know any speakers with similar dimensions and price that are better for voice?
Whats a good headphone under 160
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro
i recomend getting a bigger screen and laptop to match the speaker size
i got a 13 inch m1 macbook air 2 lg ultrawide monitors
The one I have wants to die but I refuse
I spent months trying to decide what speakers I wanted but couldn't figure it out,
So I just built my own

I have the same problem at a different scale lmao
