Are you gunna use hdmi / arc

Now, there will be a ton of audiophiles here that probably can try to find more bang for the buck. I don't think most people recommend vizio and I'm not saying I recommend it. It was just a good cheap solution when I needed it
Lol okay cool, might look into it
I love soundbars and I love undermounting them to my monitor shelf
it's so going to keep my monitor shelf from snapping probably
I made an error when building it
take a look at the audeze maxwell
will do, thanks!
Y'all Im curious and wondering the difference as I am looking for different sound systems for my computer. I have a digital input for a cable for my motherboard as well as the regular inputs like aux and the rest, is there an advantage to one or the other in terms of quality and is there a better fit for my computer depending on the quality of sound Im looking for?
With aux you're trusting the audio hardware inside your computer. Which isn't a wise move, motherboards aren't known for having the highest quality components. Most of the time they're good enough.
Digital outputs like optical or USB you're trusting the hardware in your audio device that's accepting the digital signal. Which can be anywhere between very bad and very good.
And is bluetooth the same logic as trusting the sound inside the tech Im using?
so how would go about shopping for sound systems?
is there a cost to performance logic to follow so I dont overpay for "features" that are just normal features designed to trick me into paying more?
I would personally like a sound system with good clear sound, good bass(i really like to feel bass) for a budget of like 130-150 dollars max. Preferably, Id like to hit a price point of 120 or less if possible
Yes.
Sound equipment is really hard to gauge without hearing it or without being super experienced.
fair
Best thing to do is to ask knowledgeable people, which is also hard since there's an excess of very unknowledgeable people mixed in with the people who know what they're talking about
thats is why I find myself here at an attempt at doing LOL
My recommendations would be edifier 1280, edifier mr4, or Klipsch pro media 2.1
Klipsch pro media is gonna be your best bet for powerful bass. But edifier is better everywhere else.
is there any sort of con to using bluetooth system?
biggest con is bandwidth, theres only a few codec that can actually stream lossless file fully
but if your source file is not lossless to begin with, there's no point in that really
interesting
obviously range is another one
I am confused, these look idnentical why the price differences exactly?
the thx certified part
what does that mean?
THX is a suite of high fidelity audiovisual reproduction standards for movie theaters, screening rooms, home theaters, computer speakers, video game consoles, car audio systems, and video games. The THX trailer that precedes movies is based on the Deep Note, with a distinctive glissando up from a rumbling low pitch.
THX was developed by Tomlinso...
this thing
tho i dont understand why the non certified thing is more expensive
LOL
ALL I NEEDED WAS THE VISUAL LOOOOOL
The non-certified has 260 watts of something or another...Power maybe? I dont know
but does that make it worth another 20 USD?
no the thx has 260 watts
now Im fonsued LOL
I spelled that wrong
I am befuddled truly
usually the certified thing is more expensive cause they have to pay for the licensing of using the certification ip and shit
realisitically speaking i think they are the same thing???????
They're likely the exact same physical speakers, but sold by slightly different sellers, or are slightly different SKUs. They both do 200 watts according to the "About this item" section, but then again, I trust Amazon product listings about as far as I can throw Jeff Bezos.
Kinda not really? The only con is that if you wanna use a microphone, your audio gets super shitty. But with speakers that won't be an issue.
Thx certification is a fancy title you get to pay for if your speaker meets certain qualifications.
Like meeting certain volume levels without shitting yourself
okay but the THX thing on the old VHS movies nearly made me do that as a child
that sounds like the opposite
Hot take (or maybe not so hot these days)... THX is simply marketing hype these days. It might've held merit if an actual sound company still owned it, but Razer's owned it since 2016 so... make of that what you will. 😉
really???
Yea
There are cerfitication that actually makes a products better, but THX ain't one
ALWAYS look into the "certifications" of ANY product you purchase - they're kind of like a vehicle's gas mileage rating. Cough looking at you, Energy Star stickers found on appliances everywhere across North America.
see thats what I meant earlier by paying for features that werent actually features LOL
but the klipsch speaker Nils recommended is still good I am assuming, regardless no?
They've been around since the early 2000's, so yep. When it comes to certain audio equipment... don't fix what isn't broken? Logitech's speakers are largely the same - they just like to "update" the model numbers every 3-5 years to justify releasing a "new" product lineup. I know plenty of people still rocking X-530 and X-540 speakers from the mid-2000's
Yeah it doesn't really mean anything for consumer audio
For home theater or actual theater it probably matters just a bit more
Since their certifications actually mean something there
a pair of good bookshelf speaker costs like 400
what is like, an example of good low budget, the mid range, and high range?
what makes the difference? as opposed to just "speaker sound gooder"
Logitech is unrivaled when it comes to making speakers look as expensive as possible while being stunningly cheap.
As with anything online, don't blindly trust a singular source, but... may I present to you a place to get started on your quest for acceptably decent consumer grade home / computer audio? https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/search/?s=speakers
(Keywords: "get started" - there's more to audio than picking "the best speakers" because what's "best" is subjective.)
Wirecutter is a list of the best appliances, tech, and gear for the home. Reviews are based on research and hands-on testing by veteran journalists, scientists, and researchers.
Number one thing that makes a speaker good is frequency response linearity.
A lot of the time speakers will have a huge emphasis on midbass and then you drown out people's voices. Or they have a ton of treble and make things sound harsh.
So the more neutral or balanced a speaker is, generally the better they are.
the adhd hyperfixation for resarching is beginning to develop
Bingo. There's a time and place for fancily tuned audio, but IMO everyone should start with something balanced / neutral / flat-ish so they know what a baseline sound profile, uh, sounds like, then go from there.
Number two is dispersion. So how "focused" is the sound coming at you.
A speaker which doesn't have sound that bounces of the walls or floors as much, or if it does bounce, does the bounce sound the same as the speakers direct sound radiation.
This is very hard to do and is the difference between a good speaker and an amazing speaker.
Same with Sonos, though their speakers are at least far better than any Logitech's I've had. I honestly wish I had more free time, cause I'd ditch Sonos to build a custom whole-home audio solution. Alas, for now I'm "happy" getting fleeced for the convenience of their multi-room speakers. (Rather, the family is happy with how they work... and I don't want to always be called on because "it's not working again, please fix it!")
There's also things like bass extension and efficiency. But bass extension becomes a non-issue when you buy a subwoofer.
And efficiency is overcome with any normal speaker amp that can do 100-200 watts
Sonos and Logitech, when they get torn down and their insides rudely examined, are really quite amazing at how much effort goes into using anything other than high quality speaker drivers.
Making transmission line speakers, custom plastic injection molded waveguides, the entire body is one single part
And then some 5th order bandpass fart box tuned to 60hz to make up for the shitty driver
Mhm. It's like, okay, I see that you put some level of effort into "design choices", some of which do help shape the audio, but also... those are some mighty inexpensive generic drivers ya got there, so why this $800?
Downgrade your brain to the average consumer and make an assumption for which one looks more expensive
"Well, the ones on the left are obvious more expensive - just look at how slick their matte black finish is!"
🤣
And has more connection, a subwoofer, it's smaller, has lights
Yeah. In audio you can usually assume that there's a 4-5 markup between the cost of the parts and the final MSRP of the speaker
With Sonos, idk if there's a premium with all the software that comes with that
Mind you, the lower woofer of the speaker box on the right almost looks like its outer rubber cone is deteriorated. Could just be my eyes / the image (or my uneducated smooth audio brain) though.
No. That, my friend, is a meta material that makes it so the surface area of the woofer remains constant throughout the full extension
The woofer alone is $450
one woofer. For one speaker.
Damn, and indeed they went ham with the inputs for it being the same dimensions as a binder so as to fit perfectly into a bookshelf. Much respect.
An actual bookshelf speaker

what if i buy $12 woofer from aliexpress
it will be bad
how bad though
More power to you. That's more expensive than Logitech pays
I got distracted and accidentally assembled a 3 monitor mount before I could properly express my thanks for the advice
lmao
but thanks y'all, I appreciate the advice and input
trying to make it so it doesn't stick out in the front but idk if it will effect the sound or something
i just use hdmi. Can do it over the gpu or even embedded graphics/mobo hdmi port. I haven't tried it using an hdmi to usb adapters but I would rather use that for unimportant monitors
Wait, I'm confused.
How do you use HDMI where is the sound coming out of w/ your GPU?
You ever had a monitor with built in speakers that uses HDMI or to a TV? Same thing!
Soundbars and receivers can have hdmi for audio
i think you need hdmi for alot of loseless audio too like DoblyTrueHD and dobly atmos
.
don't do that
I thought you were connecting the rca inputs to your motherboard outputs
Pretty sure the rear RCA is the same circuit as the headphone out
Isn't it exclusively pre out
What if you made a pre-amp that also had enough power for headphones.
And you wanted to make it the best value you can
Would you:
A. Make completely different amplification stages for headphones and pre-outs
B: make a pre-out that can power headphones and route it directly into a switched headphone output.
Are apple homepod minis good tv speakers for my apple tv?
Depends
Do you prefer convenience or sound quality
They integrate really well together, but a regular set of bookshelf speakers will sound way better
Thanks
Email schiit support because I'm pretty sure you can do what you want to
Nils said they use the same circuitry tbh
i don't know what i want
like he said contact them
They'll know for sure. Just ask if the headphones out is the same circuit as the pre-outs
It most likely is since that's the easy thing to do
Is the overwhelming “boom boom” that happens with the bass on AirPods Max more accurate or the refined neutral bass on open backs that are less boom more accurate to the creator’s intent?
the closest thing to the artist's intention is by using the hp + speaker they mixed the song with
the closest thing to the artist's intention is the art
on second thought that's a pretty daring assumption
hey guys, was looking at the arctis nova pro's, which are currently running about $200 aud. (link : https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Arctis-Multi-System-Gaming-Headset/dp/B09ZWF9BCJ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3B9HK5BIGW99M&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.SziIklLa4IJGtBtwwBb9CR1Q5_drP538PkW5f7o8-5Ba46eBdgFw4PDxkRJk_BEWSjmW8CvzZ4kNbb9jCetmoZI_SFrNuolXBGkXqxIbWDP_cOqruZGq9fXbC41H8gL0SaW8ei1aYnqPpco6OqEKFc8WyoW6t3E68IdJUJXlWPUDqm_Gy5dHS-QYYuyyhjvjUZeNjakHDyc6gWjhdQYsAmIescqEoYTc2PMNG12FpWw.ZLinRf2sVWswM5gm9gxRQCwe8BSwTXk37WRGqhCf26g&dib_tag=se&keywords=arctis%2Bnova%2Bpro%2Bwired&qid=1712301410&sprefix=arctis%2Bnova%2Bpro%2Bwire%2Caps%2C260&sr=8-1&th=1)
so i was gonna ask, i can get a renewed / refurbished version of this on amazon for about $80 cheaper. should i get it from there?

if not, i don't really care about the wireless aspect, so i would take any reccomendations for wired headphones aswell
Do you need a microphone?
I've had good experiences with amazon refurbished headphones thus far. both were almost new
that could definitely change though with more headphones, and u.s amazon might not have the same qc as australia
Does anyone have experience with on-camera microphones, I've got a Canon M50, looking for a shotgun mic for 4-7 feet in front of the camera.
I was going to just buy the highest end Rode Microphone before asking here.
Curious if anyone can help me out, looking for the best quality affordable Lavalier Mics, preferably wireless.
The rode wireless go is pretty popular
Wireless makes it expensive. Wired can be significantly cheaper
any cheaper recommendations? I need too buy 4-5 mics and the Rode one is just to expensive at that quantity
how cheap?
Why not just use your phones?
Stick it in your shirt pocket or find some way to keep it on their chest mildly hidden
Record using software and synchronize it in post
Is moondrop dusk a scam
Zeos selling his unit after like one week of owning it is concerning
yeah
more than twice the price of the truthear nova and it’s worse
Thruthear nova sounds compressed
That is what the internet says
Flavor of the month best measuring iems are a scam
Well. No more a scam than the rest of capitalism
Marketing, over consumption, measurebaiting
Z selling his unit is just him being what he is
A salesman
lukewarm take: Good measuring is everywhere, pick your price point and find the best ergonomics/style/taste for you.
You're right that was incredibly Luke warm.
Idk how to feel about the dsp cable
I want to just plug them into my amp at my desk since I already have it set up
I could EQ the dsp they give manually via eq apo.
But the 3.5mm they give with it looks like trash next to their usb-c dsp cable
It seems usable when I am at work with my laptop and have a docking station on my desk with usb-c in the front
But then having to swap cable constantly is not good since a 2 pin connector isn't really made for this
I guess I'll have to wait for the sharur review
who is this luke
Why on earth would you do that
are you luke
who is luke

Hey guys, i'm tossing between the EPOS H6PRO and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro (wireless). Any advice?
doesnt matter
sony pulse elite or audeze maxwell(if u have the money)
i already have a pair of sony pulse elites but i use them for my playstation, do they work on pc fine?
yes
i dont have bluetooth on my mobo, do they work fine fine wired aswell
yes
Sennheiser PC38X
ill look at it gimme a sec
https://drop.com/buy/drop-epos-pc38x-gaming-headset if you don't like yellow
would you reccomend a dac for any of these headsets aswell?
alternatively the previous model https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-pc37x-gaming-headset for slightly less
lol no
i dont know if this is that good but i saw these for 200 dollars, 10 dollars cheaper than the pc38x, what do you think?
(aud btw)
you know that's not a headset, right?
just something i wanted to throw out there
I wouldn't
like idm buying a 10 dollar mic if i can save that
good lord
everyone in a call will hate you for that
either that or i already had the kmart mic i got for like 30 dollars like 4 years ago i dont use anymore lmoa
and you won't be saving shit, you'd likely need something better than your computer's amp to run the dt 990s lol
5$ lavs sound way too good
begone klaus
he wont
unless its the 600ohm version
250ohm maybe if he has a particularly weak motherboard output
also don't buy this
dt880 is better than the dt990
and neither of these are necessarily better than pc38x
sidegrade more like
my friend sent it to me and i just wanted to check
i think the dt 880 is the same price, 200
ill look into the
pc38x
too much
aud, the pc38x in aud is 210
how much usd
200 aud = 130 usd
yeah go for it
lol
id recommend pc38x as better multimedia gear and dt880 as better competitive gaming gear
the added benefit of pc38x having a mic makes it a better choice imo
i think the shipping on the pc38x if i cant get it on amazon is gonna make it much more expensive, prolly around 260 aud. (i have amazon prime)
your call man
do you know any that are supplied on amazon which are good? :
just get apple dongle
u want wired?
astro a40 are worse than pc38x but still alright
absolutely zero need. onboard will be plenty lmao
unless theres pc37x
why the astros when dt880 are available
most motherboard audio are ass
they said headset
I guess you haven't used a good board in a decade lol
well they are up for buying the dt880 apparently
lowkey this
umc22 bad
dont mind
my current board probably does too lol
then sure just get it
but I prefer hd560s
over dt880
slightly less peaky
I thought u getting dt880
was checking the shipping
its making my wallet sweat

everything more expensive than a hd6x0 is a sidegrade
i dont need any other stuff with it correct?
correct
tbh i dont know much about sound stuff, im currently using a razer kraken v2 with only 1 ear working lol
so i kinda need a new pair
yike
my friend said to look at sennheiser he1 but i cant find them anywhere
your friend is trolling you
Try directly googling it and looking dor sennheisers website
The first electrostatic headphones with integrated high-voltage amplifiers. Discover ultimate sound experience now!
69 thousand euros
nice
did the price go up
because they're a very limited production luxury item
not something you're meant to just buy
Hi! can someone recommend me some good (and budget friendly) speakers?
whats with the wunderwaffe bulb things btw lol:
tube amp
making us assume too many things
location?
currency?
budget?
literal tubes
do you have an amp
not yet
yes
i mean, in what world (other than like a proffesional studio for crazy rich musicians) is this gonna be used lmao
do you know how many currencies use the dollar symbol?
us dollar
none, it's for rich people
i think its safe to assume usd unless specified otherwise
Its entirely not good for professionals
Its a worthless item for any professional
and for musicians
it a distorted electrostatic ran off of tubes
literally the opposite of what any mixer would want
its audiophile jank not studio
is there even music that can even take advantage of technology this advanced
yes any
you can buy tube amps for 30$ off of amazon
its just that they aren't good
and electrostats for whoever much you can find them second hand
anywhere between 100 to 69k euros apparently
100 usd would be a lucky and probably bad quality find though
anyways he1 is like a corvette or a porsche, its not meant to particularly perform well its something meant to throwing money at for significant diminishing returns and a unique vibe
nevertheless it is pretty cool lmao
is there even a headphone more expensive than that
Focal Utopia by Tournaire
100 thousand euros
Imagine paying focal 100k on headphones
lol
lmao even
its a fucking dynamic headphone too lmfao
for real
you could build the most insane speaker room with that amount of money
thx :3
iohj'
This may be a bit random just joined the server I just wanted to get some recommendations on some monitor speakers.
well mr spank master sluts.inc, how much do you want to spend?
yeah uni student
mackie has some cheaper ones but they are very bad
do keep in mind im going off uk currency
yes i dont have that button on my keyboard unfortunately
REALLY?
damm stingy american style keyboards
the british pound is not important enough to warrant a whole key dedicated to it, unfortunately
ooof
funny enough the one you recomended isnt on uk amazon it seems
damm
oh found it £109.99 damm apparently more expensive in the uk
im not looking for excellent levels of audio just like adequate im rolling with really good headphones
kinda just for when im watching general stuff
this is where adequate starts
gotta keep in mind that there's usually a 5x markup for speakers
true
damm you capitalism
indeed
You can also take a look at creative pebbles or klipsch promedia 2.1
the promedia gets down really low sometimes and it can get real loud. the small speakers are also easy to position
creative pebbles are just dirt cheap and acceptable for that
ohhh ive seen those before
the speakers i was looking at originally were these Sanyun SW208 3
the pebbles are dirt cheap
damm
they also have a version that comes with a subwoofer
the pebbles pro are within my budget as well
the speakers you linked look too good f or a price like that. they probably spent their entire budget on the plate amp on the back and the cabinet. cheaping out everywhere else you cant see.
so i am suspicious of them
subwoofer package for pebbles is cheap as hell
reviews say price matches really well with quality so probs is not perfect
would a subwoofer be worth getting
if you plan on playing them loud, yes.
if this is just for watching videos at a desktop and you're short on space, no
this was in regards to the one i refrenced
most reviewers are a terrible source for looking at audio equipment.
even audio reviewers suck.
well, most of them do
its mostly prefrence from what i have gathered
well
thats a part of it certainly
its just really hard to gauge speakers since they sound different in every room, in every position.
so there might be some $20 speakers that sound godlike in the perfect room for them and some $2000 speakers that sound like ass in a terrible room
im gonna be in a house share soon so im probs not gonna want lound ass speakers
as a reviewer you gotta look at the sum of all the parts, see what was a good design decision, listen in a lot of different ways to these speakers, and then if possible, get good measurements of what they're capable of.
otherwise there's not really a good way to gauge how good a speaker is without hearing it in your room
well. if you're a reviewer yes
hell no
this is still about reviewers
ohhhhh
I mean its just a matter of turning the volume down
replied to the wrong message
this
lol
kinda tryna only get what i need
so would it benefit me to get a subwoofer
if im not gonna be loud
never realised how indepth a review of audio equipment could go

This is what a good audio review looks like
If youre knowledgeable about speaker measurements, you can completely ignore all his opinions and still get a pretty good idea of the speakers performance
ill have a look into it
cause from the sounds of it getting speakers is more complicated than i thought
🥲
Ok, so im gonna save this as a signed 32-bit WAV file, then play it back on my phone, while recording the output on my PC to see at what volume level it starts clipping
the only issue i see so far is...what "volume" level for my PC(Windows) is...i dont know the word...neutral?
like, if I'm amplifying it on the input, that would get wrong results
I guess if i really want to do it the best way, i would play it back on the actual system i plan on using and then just record that and look for signs of clipping in the waveform
am i crazy? am i wrong?
is there a better way to do this?
Maybe I can buy a decimeter
Is it okay to put amp on high gain at 75%
How do I know what is the correct level to set my headphone amp?
If it's too loud turn it down
If it's not loud enough turn it up
If it's just right leave it alone
depends on the volume
Best IEM under 60 USD??
zero red
How about Moondrop Aria 2? It is quite cheap in my country
Idk...
aria 2 is not very good
on the other hand, Moondrop May is also quite decent
:DDD Thank you very much!
what is a decent amp that has xlr that basically doesn't get hot
even tho my violectric is opamp based it still gets toasty in the summer, running my zen can right now but the cable I have that is 4.4mm is kinda ass (openheart)
huh did my moondrop kato just die...
nope its my zen can
and its 1 day out of warranty
Office setup... Probably will get new headphones
How TF do you fit a monitor in your ears?
Lmaoo
i dont know if there is a better way to do this other than encoding the entire album as one WAV file, then opening it in audacity to see how much i can amplify without clipping, then going back and using that number to transcode the tracks as individual files...
but im already done...
Keep in mind both the WAV and FLAC are mono...for...reasons
clean that mouse mat
I need some help with a home theater system if someone is able
one of the wires should have a stripe on it or one of the "metal stuff" should be a more red color
I don't need help with any wiring, I did all of that and it works correctly
bold of you to assume I can't properly wire some speakers
good to see you dont need help. have a good day
I would like to, of course
well?
basically it's an older system and I want to make a DVD that has 5.1 surround
I tried a lot of files but not many work
it only reads .mp3 which doesn't support 6 channels
and divx files
have tou tried authoring a DVD Video Disc?
what does "authoring" mean?
I have an album that is "AudioDVD" "VIDEO_TS" that has 5.1 surround
I want to convert it into some kind of .avi with .mp3 or .mp2 6 channel surround
or DivX
Surround sound CDs are pretty rare. I think you'll have better luck researching on Reddit or Google.
DivX might support it, does your DVD player have the Divx logo?
Oh, i thought he wanted to make a DVD
with video, right?
it says in the manual
Oh he does I misread the message
it also has Dolby Prologic 2 or something
Is it a video, or do you want DVD-Audio?
DVD Audio
that might be easier
if you have fat stacks of DVD-Rs, maybe try encoding a MPeg-2 audio file with surround
it was perfect
good luck encoding to that without a license
first of all I need to get the .vob file into .mp2 with 6 channels
do you have YAMB?
i do not know what is that so i guess no
it's been a long time since i dealt with DVDs...
Same
but I got it for free from a friend so I said why not
if it helps, you can search up the manual
it says what files it reads and stuff like that
JVC TH-S11
honestly, unless you're homeless and need the 10 dollars, id say get a decent bluray player from goodwill and then learn AVCHD authoring
uhm
i only wanted to do it to use the 5.1 surround thingy
and it only has scart out and in 😂
what if
can I do scart to RCA with the gray and blue surround?
I have a tv that supports it
and the player can get scart audio from the tv
try making an AAC file, putting that on a DVD just as a data disk, and see if the player plays it
it doesn't
well then, i have no idea
DVD-Audio (commonly abbreviated as DVD-A) is a digital format for delivering high-fidelity audio content on a DVD. DVD-Audio uses most of the storage on the disc for high-quality audio and is not intended to be a video delivery format.
The standard was published in March 1999 and the first discs entered the marketplace in 2000. DVD-Audio was in ...
"DVD Audio Extractor – This product and others can extract audio from DVD-Audio discs, but does not author new DVD-Audio discs."
ohhh
i cant attest to any legality, but it's on wikipedia
oh, it says from dvd audio discs...sorry
what?
i have a video_ts
i used to know a program that could do that, but it's technically not allowed to exist anymore
I have the files, I just need to convert them so that my dvd player reads them
This article lists DVD ripper software capable of ripping and converting DVD discs, ISO image files or DVD folders to computer, mobile handsets and media players supported file formats.

It can be used to make a copy of any DVD protected with Content Scrambling System (CSS). This might work depending on the age of the media...i dont think it's up-todate
i tried 3 of the apps listed here
format factory and handbrake were the closest ones
handbrake missed .avi and divx 5
format factory said I don't have timestamps or something
i will disable the automated chapters it created
the GUI says it supports "TS" files

- video streams with m4v, cmp, h264, 264, h263, 263 as input format or from avi, mpg, mpeg, vob, mp4, mov, ogg, qcp and 3gp files.
- audio streams with aac, ac3, amr, awb, evc, mp3, msv, vorbis as input format or from avi, mpg, mpeg, vob (mp2 only), mp4 and 3gp files."
will try that
the temptation to buy a dt900 pro x and balance mod it is strong
no
dt 900 pro x is not good
I am going to EQ the boosted treble down
still
it sounds very clean if you do that
shouldnt need to eq headphones to fix them imo
I EQ every headphone
i dont disagree with eq but shouldnt need them just to fix the inital terrible sound signature
I own
I love DT880 with EQ
idk I haven't heard something even close to dt900 pro x at that price range
dt880 ive heard is good keep in mind ive only heard these
k371 maybe
no
I have heard quite a lot of headphones
dt900 pro x is honestly really good for the price
would take it over any focal except the utopia
and over any sennheiser
oh wow
just wait a week grey will change his mind
the cable was more expensive than the headphones 💀
@warm scarab apparently the maxwell automatically power off after not using them for a bit
I recommended maxwell to a guy and he said that he was gonna get a 3.5mm cable to solve this
I told him its not gonna work since it has to convert the analog input to digital because it has DSP
he refused to use usb
💀
no!
$50 amp/dac stack works great. or rather $53 currently
is it the 600 ohm
It's the 250 ohm one
try turning the dial on the side of the headphones
I did
okay. it shouldn't be quiet then. they are very easy to power. see if the cables are connected correctly.
and as for hearing your own voice, thats probably a windows t hing
I dont hear my voice through the headset and also the cables are connected properly. When I plug them in the back of my pc its quiet. But when I use the front ports its louder but idk not as loud as my hyperx
is it loud enough on the front ports
no its not,i need it louder
the headset sounds alright
not that much better than the hyperx
the hype is fake
🙄
in terms of music it might be better slightly
how long have you had them
but other than that not worth the price
2 hours
okay well give it a few days of listening, using them, and if you still dont like them then you should return them
i cant return
wdym
I cant return it
oh well
ill just go back the hyperx
ill take em out if i wanna listen to music
when i say "what do you mean" that means "can you elaborate further"
why cant you return it
yea and I said I can't return it cause I am lazy
Not goin through the whole thing going to the post office
lol
indeed
damn I had my expectations wayy too high
pearls before swine
thought I was gonna get eargasms
Alright enough trolling
the headsets are fine lol
Just seems a lil quiet
maybe a problem w my mobo
music wise it sounds very good
this is why universal recommendations suck
The quietness of this album reminds me, i need to relearn what all those volume normalizing terms mean
Attack, knee, elbow, duck, upper, parry
Threshold: -3dB;
Ratio:"limit";
MakeUp Gain: Auto;
Knee: Soft
Attack: 0ms;
Release Time: 1000ms
Probably mangles the dynamic range of songs, but it's for a PA system at a store... So consistent volume is a little more important
Ill turn it off when i play my manually leveled albums, like my sacd rips
Make sure you plug it all the way in
use them for longer than 2 hours
if you have zero listening ability it doesn't matter what we give you
its like commenting on wine with having no tasting ability, you wouldn't be able to differentiate a 10$ bottle from a 500$ bottle
they were 107€ in europe at some point
common issue
idk if getting a small dac/amp would fix the issue though
ill check that out if it does smt
my friend is also having issues with the headset being quiet he has it plugged into his motherboard (b450 steel legend if i remember correctly)
Is he using the normal headphone jack?
Did he try switching between the panel and io?
Is it bad if i convert a dsd album to pcm and it's already almost peaking?
Considering how dsd works, it's completely possible the max peak was above what pcm could handle and the converter compressed it
Did you check the volume knob on the right side
we all have
Is there a volume knob on the left side?
There's a amplification seeing in the sacd settings, but it was set to 0
Maybe i can try a negative amp number and see if it's still almost clipping
And see how far until it starts actually reducing volume
Only if its on sale
Yes. it is possible
hey I wanna upgrade from a corsair virtuoso, does someone have any gaming headset recommendations?
alright. how?
pay less for it
at -4 amplification, the result is a WAV file that can be amplified this much before clipping...
-3...
-1.0
so...i guess i should use...-0.200
Converters don’t compress. They clip.
Hi! Does anyone here have the JVC TH-S11 home theater system or something equivalent?
this seems to be true. for some reason this time the results was a clipped wav faile
Best price/performance IEM or open backs under 110 USD?
I listen to EDM, Orchestral, JPOP, and game, going to be for daily use, I prefer wired.
What are the best wired headphones for someone who loves music, gaming, and movies? I have Shure 1540’s and I like them a lot, but I was wondering if I should look into other headphones, or how I drive them?
I have an Elgato XLR that I use because I love the software support that they have with my stream deck.
my m50xs just broke, can anyone recomend me some new closed back headphones?
i mostly use them for gaming, but i do enjoy nice sound as do most people
they lasted me 4 and a half years
so a worthwhile purchase
Take a look at the truthear hola.
Take a look at the hd6xx
Take a look at the audeze Maxwell
N/A unfortunately. What about Truthear Hexa? those got recommended in multiple places
Oh yes I have a pair. Very good.
audeze nuts in your mouth
Beyerdynamics
lol beyer
ok, I was looking for a closed back headphone.
but I will keep them in mind for an open back set.
Which ones?
Ah. Hmm. There unfortunately arent that many good ones.
Akg has the k361 and k371.
The only closed back ive heard that I liked was the meze liric but I'm gonna hazard a guess that it's out of your budget.
yes, it is out of my budget, and chances are i dont think what I have could drive it haha...
I like what I have, but I was wondering what the recommendations were. i'll keep them in mind for some time down the road.
the 1990 pros or if your budget is lower the 990 pros
Nah. The liric can be powered off fairy farts.
Super efficient
What are good wireless headphones for watch on a tv
I have tv next to parents room so want decent headset so I don't wake up parents when watching tv at night
can you be less vauge?
what TV box do you have? whats your budget? if its so you dont wake people up youd probably wany closed backs
sony WH1000-XM5 are pretty standard, the XM4s are the last model which might be a little cheaper
er
I mean the 1540 is kinda awesome imo
you could go neumann ndh20 but it's more of a crossgrade
less soundstage but higher instrument separation
Guys, can u recommend me any under 200 bucks IEMs?
Do you actually watch television? Or do you use a Roku or a fire tv?
Try connection to the media device via Bluetooth
so i tried it and the headphones go way louder than just running it through the motherboard
I still cant get over the fact that my px38 isnt as loud as my hyperx
I have to have it at 100 percent while i could use my hyperx at 50%
Do i buy a audio interface or smth?
Like the bass is loud but other sounds not so mich
Also the mic is also pretty quiet
buying a small amp/dac does help
Truthear Nova
Oh I also am wondering what a good pair of IEM’s would be? Does Shure make some similar to what my Headphones are capable of?
Take a look at the truthear hexa
U know which one?
apple dongle
speaking of small amps/dacs
I have a question about basics here - assuming I trust my motherboard to produce a good digital signal out of its 3.5 mm jack (I do) - what is the ideal way to handle that signal when I have powered bookshelf speakers which take 3.5 mm in and headphones (Sennheiser HD 599s) which want some power but not a tremendous amount (they are 50 ohm) and I would like an easy way to switch between the devices ideally with a hardware switch. the speakers have a headphone jack and are listed at 15W RMS which seems more than adequate to power the headphones but I have no idea if that number applies to the headphone jack on the speakers or if that's just what they themselves use, or how to choose whether the speakers or using the output or passing through to the headphones when headphones are connected
note these are new speakers and I do not have the headphones yet this is a new setup I am getting sorta piecemeal as my last gear more or less exploded and was held together by electrical tape and wishes and I'm trying to get by with what I have and can get
oh wait I can answer that last part I think my sister has a pair of shit phones I can borrow to see what happens when I connect them
oh the button on the front cycles between bluetooth/speaker/headphone mode
What?
That 15 watts is undoubtedly for your speakers
i meant what i said lol
yeah I was going to say - 15 watts to headphones seems incredibly huge, but I can't find any numbers on how much power these things are actually giving my headphones
headphones should've came with an adapter?
It didnt
Most manufacturers don't list it. I usually assume it's anywhere between 0.5-2 volts.
There were 2 cables,1 split and 1 together
hmm
The together one isnt long
I suppose as long as it sounds good it's fine
I don't actually have the headphones yet but these cheap ass gamer headphones sound fine
for what they are
so I guess I don't actually need any other hardware
which is kind of a relief but also kind of a bummer
well you can plug the headphone one into the dongle
these speakers do get kinda hot though think I am going to rig up a baby noctua to blow onto it
the mic one into the motherboard
anyone have that doc with like all the headphone recommendations for this months prices with different categories like wireless ear buds and stuff like that?
idek if thats still being updated tbh
I haven't seen that doc
Oh that. From 2022 💀
ye...
Things are more expensive but reccs haven't really changed
and its got 2020 on the actual pic
Creative aurvana live isn't available anymore. Akg k612 is kinda bleh.
ye i just bought the Koss KSC75 because i needed something for a very low budget and the reviews were pretty good
creative aurvana was my last headphone fully broke a week ago : (
Also I got this, does this work?
i mean theyre designd for hyperx but it is literally just an audio interface
nvm its not any better
idk what i do now
Music sounds good
but like when I am watching a video where its people talking they sound quieter
Rip. Well ksc75 is pretty durable but it has one major problem. It's super prone to getting hair stuck in the driver. So make sure that everyone week or two you pull out any hair that's in the foam ear pads.
thats not an issue if your bald
ah alright thanks
Otherwise they'll needle their way in and become eternally stick in there and you'll hear a rattle in the bass
i didnt say it was cheaper
ye hair wouldnt be a problem for me lol
i said its a solution to the hair in driver problem
A poor one
i mean, at least when your 70 you wont care your hair is going because you had no hair for as long as you had ksc75
i been wanting to buy headphones and a mic and i have been suggested the Sennheiser Hd 560 S and marantz mpm1000u are they good suggestions?
560s is good.
For the mic, I would steer you towards a different mic. A samson q2u or atr2100 with a boom arm of sorts.
u meant the marantz mpm1000u bc the 560s is a headphone
Yes.
What are good Bluetooth headphones for watching tv and stuff for someone with big head tried xm5s they were uncomfortable since I have large head
Wish I could just use a headphone jack like with my old tv lol
But guess it's not a common thing to do so understand why tvs don't really have them
if you have headphones that you like then look into something like the fiio BTR5, it lets you use wired headphones with bluetooth
there are propably cheaper options though
then why did you go for open backs lol
now we're in business
I have used a congregation of headphone measurements and known real-world responses to find the pointy parts of the sound
and the dippy parts
that looks trippy
I might need to smooth it for something more usable with sound demos
whoever said that this headset is good for tacfps deosnt play tacfps
this is a lesson in asking better questions
I don't know what you originally asked, but every day I see someone somewhere say "what's a good headset" and then someone else says pc37x, 38x, or audeze maxwell
or cloud 2 or cloud III
I asked a lot of questions
oh, damn
yea before buying
While the headset isn't bad
but its not for a competitive environment
a lot of audiophiles don't play competitive fps games
Yeah it was my mistake
I did ask that im gonna buy it for competitive
there appears to be a general disconnect between gamers and audiophiles where gamers think there is something to learn from the audiophiles, but audiophiles think there is nothing to learn from gamers (regarding audio)
I doubt you would've gotten a different answer by saying it was for competitive games
unless you would tell them that includes noise isolation
the mackie mc450,
is my gaming juggernaut at least for cs2
two days ago I was playing cs2 with someone who had the dt990 250 ohm, so I wore the same thing since I collect headphones like this
Most gamers buy their headphones based on looks and marketing, so I'd say gamers have very little to teach audiophiles
a gamer is a type of trained listener
but also with a lot of field experience regarding that listening
A gamer is a walking bag of money waiting to spend money on anything they can convince themselves will help improve their competitive score.
Audiophiles have a similar crowd for fancy cables and chakra field aligners
someone can be a trained listener and not know anything about the equipment
bruh that's like 90% of musicians
I don't see how that's relevant.
"not knowing what to buy" can coexist and have no effect on whether someone's a trained and experienced listener
Sure.
i never had issues with any headphone i tried so far as of listening for steps or shots whatsoever in games
But again. I have no idea how that's relevant here.
I see audiophiles frequently point to headphone choices for gaming where the actual performance drifts away from the stated goal
it's a knowledge/experience handicap audiophiles often have
and it affects the kind of help gamers receive
The alternative is gamers buying more ewaste made by companies who have no intention of delivering an actually good product.
With rare exceptions.
But the headphones are made dirt cheap. They fall apart after 2 years and people don't know that a well built headphone from an actual audio company can last decades.
And best of all, those headphones from actual audio companies tend to sound way better.
Worst case scenario. If they hate their headphones. They can return them and get all or most of their money back.
And they can come back saying what they dislike and we can move on from there
I would say folks like fresh reviews are turning the gaming spectrum towards good audiophiles products that are advantageous to competitive games
Gamers are diversifying away from gadget conglomerates and heading towards specialty parts. That's a pretty well known trend by now. And there are some hybrid gamer audiophile reviewers popping up.
I mean quality audio doesn't mean its specialized for gaming
What defines specialized for gaming
Sorry not gaming
competitve i meant
closed backs are better for those
What does a competitive headphone offer that an audiophile headphones do not.
idk I got the recommendation from audiophile and its good sound wise but hot garbage when gaming
can barely hear anything
outside noise
I gotta pump white noise in my ears when playing
If you had a quieter room and a louder headphone port would that magically turn a bad competitive headphone into a good competitive headphone?
nope
can barely hear anything in game
So to me it seems like this is a problem specific to your circumstances
no it makes sense why most competitve pros still use the "gaming" headsets
I saw people shitting on those but those are actually good for "gaming
Irrelevant of their paid sponsorships to use those headphones of course
they're sponsors
no i get that
They use dollar store plastic headphones because they're the best and not the tens of thousands of dollars they get paid to wear them
Idk man I havent seen a headset thast good quality that can suffer any better than those
U throw both of them they gonna break regardless
less front/back reversals, tuning more optimized for most games. more precise imaging than most of the closed back non-gaming counterparts
like before I could hear footsteps but on this one i cant at all
usually more comfort potential per dollar spent
all i hear is buncha bass
but one thing is for sure open back for competitive is a no no
maybe ill get a closed back headset
whats a good one
Meze liric
prefarably one where if someone is dying next to me i wont hear
what games are you playing
valo
thats it
I play couple times a week and even then if i cant enjoy it then its sad
now that's the sponsor part
oh I did a lot of this
but tbh, ive noticed a shift to audiophiles iem that has favorable characteristic for some comp shooter, especially in val
for valorant my overall takeaways were cloud II or better yet m50x clones in terms of just hearing the direction of sounds and not having sounds mash together so much
yea thats that but if a "better" headset was actually better for their purpose then they would 100% switch but fact of the matter is it doesn't grant any advantage
cs too recently with cs2
damn might get an iem then
but I just like headsets
on my head feels comfy
them using IEM is the byproduct of having to put on noise cancelling headset on top
but still pc38 is probably one of the quietest headsets i have ever used
aside from this gaming headphone vs audiophile headphone discussion it seems like a normal headphone jack from the usual motherboard cant power the pc38x to its full potential terms of volume
so the big boi headset you see them using on stage is purely for noise seperation/cancelling
the m50x clones being actually great, but not everyone gets the expected experience with an m50x or it's clones
one moment
hmm seems like it
u think i get a dac
maybe that helps make it louder?
i tried the pc38x with and without a dac
it literally feels like you doubled the volume
Sam's the first person I've heard complain about the 38X being too quiet
my friend has the same issue
idk i looked up online and I also asked someone in game today and he said the pc38x is quiet w/o an amp
legit just played w someone and they said its too quiet w/o the dac
its like edgin bro
it's quiet because the dynamic range of valorant is high
(another disconnect between audiophiles and gamers)
yea like the gunshots are loud but everything else is so quiet
so how do i make it dynamic
surely this "good" headset is capable of that
potentially,
idk the only other headsets I have seen games use is the dt's
a compressor vst in eqapo
is there a reason you can't use a compressor?
gasping for air
compressor like a device?
idk much about it
vst compressor for volume
what?
how
er
also before it's too late here's a bunch of recordings of the discussed headphones on valorant
Maybe it's just hearing damage.
I'm using the hd560s rn and i can hear steps in valo really well but i wouldn't recommend taking my word for it
when I hear everything loud and clear it feels like breathing normally, but when its quiet it feels like when ur gasping for air
dt990 250
ah, good isolation then
idk my hearing and breathing is sorta synced
tho being an open back, you should still hear the background noise somewhat
pc38x
no no,I liked when it was isolated
I didnt mean it that way
yeah it sounds pretty close to this
U hear how on the 38x u hear the gun sooo loud, everything else is lower
all of them do that
nah
maybe if one has more treble though, guns will have more bite
on the hyperx i hear everything about the same
the gun and the footsteps about the same loudness
i had my hearing checked and the headphones are definitely quiet
my hearing is fine
er one moment
i would be surprised if my hearing is also shit at 17
I will demonstrate to you the power of compression
so is that a software ur talking about?
yes free software
the thing is the most reviewers for audiophile products just plug the headphones into their powerful dac/amp and call it a day
i can get something better
im out of that industry
left is pc38x, right is cloud ii for comparision and cloud ii actually requires more power than the pc38x
but getting an decent dac/amp is not a bad idea
then how is it the 38x is so quiet
people have been saying its quiet cause of the mobo
pc38X is 96 db/mW
not 108
idk where drop got that number from but 108 doesn't mean anything
matches amirs measurement almost perfectly
so whats the play here team
behold
this has the same max volume as the other sound demos
actually it matches 95 db/mW perfectly
so how do i do this
yea, drop smoking some weird pack
but still. it needs 1 volt for 110 db
tbh i cant tell what this is supposed to be
what kind of shitty audio output cant do 1 volt
it's not any particular headphone, but the quiet sounds are brought up in volume
