because:
regardless of the person doing it and how qualified* they are, it is a gross oversimplification that ignores almost all primary questions needed to determine if a headphone will be potentially good or bad for a person
this represents crinacle's opinions with unknown criteria and use case
He disclose pretty clearly how he does that
And yes he's saying that it's just his opinion.
yes but that's not how the teir list is being used right now
and it's not crinacle's fault but
K612pro are nice headphones
Really bright tho so if you are sensitive to that, probably shouldn't get them
Also, the base would probably be lacking for most people so might want to EQ that up a bit
All in all it's a good one, but would look for used instead of new.
That tier list is a nice starting point...
After that you have to watch a whole lot of reviews (take the with a grain of salt) and talk with people to make your mind about if it's worth or not to you ...
Testing them yourself is also a really good option if you can
fourmat
there's a lot of ways even 1 aspect of sound can be interpreted
alongside a lot of compromises and benefits between models yes
as for the amp thing,
well the akg k701/702 I had were pretty insensitive
with the k612 being higher ohms and basically 92db/mw sensitivity...
you may actually need an amp for louder volumes
actually wait
the akg k240s is close
sound test time
(loudness warning, if not obvious)
that's about what you can expect with a k612
better sound of course
its cuz dt770 pro bass is just bloat
its not good bass
aurvana live bass is actually acceptable
ic
waat
I mean you may like the sound of the calSE drivers structurally failing to remain rigid and distorting in the bass, how much of which is dependent on the song and how quiet you want to listen today
I wouldn't say that's practical but yes it works and it gives a unique effect to the bass
the dt770 doesn't have as much bass and it's got a notch, but it's way more controlled and not distorting
you could try eq, but it will not bring back the bass harmonic distortion
do you know if you're using asio?
or what drivers
It's a buffer issue that's solved using the driver
and it's an issue with Scarlett, not clarett interfaces
normally I would agree with that, but my 2i2 2nd gen driver was actually ass
it defied the conventions of increasing buffer size to avoid overruns
it's not exactly sensitive, but given it's high enough impedance it's actually not that hard to run
you can drive it using an apple dongle on pc
it would only overrun the least at 128 samples 44.1k. 256 had too much, so did 64
have you tried asio4all?z
ik stock Scarlett drivers are broken half the time (I use m-audio and my driver's work but are practically useless)
I prefer fl studio asio but both that and asio4all lock out some of the features and capabilities of the interface
it's now a sanding block
hmmm
I've only had to use a 2nd gen once
it was ok
but it was a 2i4 in a public recording booth in a library
generic drivers iirc, since i'm on linux
but focusrite designed them to work fine with that
you can still configure the sample rate and buffer size
and it does happen on windows with their official drivers
oh I dunno abt linux
windows with 3rd gen I had plenty of issues on electron apps
What would you guys recommend for good headphones to fully experience the audio in the photo and play games on (if i spend money on something like this I wouldn't want to upgrade it for a long time). It doesn't need to be the highest end setup, but something far better than my current corsair virtuoso wireless. I don't know how much I would want to spend to do this and am partly asking to see how much people would recommend I spend.
7.1
headphones
pick one
I'd appreciate it if you would respond with an actual response that explains anything. I wouldn't be here if I already knew a ton of stuff.
I would need to try those spatializers on some relevant content and the headphones I have around
with headphones, 7.1 is shorthand for spatialization processing
inaccurate labeling but yes
the sennheiser hd6xx, the hd560s, and if you need a mic the PC38x would be my recommendations.
they're not "7.1" surround sound, but surround sound in my experience does more harm than good for audio. game engines do a pretty decent job of sounding good on headphones so the technology isn't really necessary imo.
7.1 on headphones isn't real
the atmos one can alledgedly be really good with content that provides a 7.1 audio stream in a way that agrees with atmos
its just filters that makes stuff sound as if it is wider at the cost of audio quality and accuracy, any headphone that does that natively will outdo it
yeah atmos is pretty neat. but the content that can use atmos is pretty slim and you dont need to invest in specific headphones to get a license.
alr, I see lol
tldr get a good headphone and you wont need this
I do have atmos for some of my stuff, would the sennheiser ones you mentioned support it? Or nah
actually I think I have it for most of my stuff
any stereo headphone will "support" it, but how convincing it actually sounds will still in part depend on the headphones
you can make any headphone support it
its just software
in any case it isn't something you would want
they'll support anything your PC does. so you'd need to get dolby atmos for pc or dolby access, i forget which one. there's nothing special that a 7.1 surround sound headset does that a normal headphoen cant do. its just software and DRM.
so if you get the software, it will be compatible.
DRM, my favorite lmao.
what sort of budget are you looking at
thanks for the help tho, I'll refer back to this whenever I do buy stuff.
theres also a free softare called HeSuVi which is kinda clunky and hard to use, but once you get it working you can choose between a bunch of different brand's implimentation of surround sound. including atmos.
thats interesting input
that's the thing, I haven't looked at audio stuff for quite a while so no real hard numbers were in my head. I was partly looking to see what people would recommend to get the most out of it without it being the highest end setup.
i might try it out as well im curious
for 500$ you can get a good setup imo
max 550$
Last time I bought headphones I spent like 200, so I was expecting above that lol
you can get nice stuff for 200$ as well
it wont be anything mindblowing but a notch above most stuff available
When it comes to a microphone tho, I do actually have a specific request. I NEED to be able to use sidetone and hear myself, and listening to the device on windows or whatever doesn't cut it.
my current headset has that and I don't think I can go back anymore, I've tried
just buy an open back headphone
hear yourself directly
lol
no need for software or hardware to emulate that
gaming headsets that sound like anechoic chambers who rely on sidetone I hate
you don't want headphones with that good of a seal except for outdoors
luckily mine is honestly pretty good, it doesn't sound too different if I take off the headphones and talk
but as long as I can hear myself, idc if they have it
do you know what an open back headphone is?
for sure
it's a shame that the headband on XS is so awful because otherwise that + $100 amp would make anyone happy
they made aftermarket suspension bands for xs michael
I probably wouldn't be able to tell you the difference, but i know the HD6XX are some
when youre wearing a pair of truly open back headphones you dont have any background noise cancellation
it isn't really like wearing headphones in terms of how the outside sounds
then i'm probably not gonna need any sidetone lol
you don't have lots of sound isolation, you can hear yourself normally while talking
it gives a much more natural sound compared to the fishbowl audio effect that closed backs give you
closed backs are inherently flawed devices that are almost impossible to design without using digital signal processing
and will sound quite different from person to person
in comparison to open backs
anyhow, unless you have a particularly noisy environment in terms of sound you wont get better than open backs
the loudest thing near me is my AC
that might be a bit annoying but personally id take the minor annoyance over the sound quality
@warm scarab buy the KZ bass cannons
that black ugly line is my estimation of red + impedance adapter
is the castor new
i forgot i added that
relatively
it was KZ's attempt at making a truthear nova for like $13
there's a nova-clone version and a bass cannon version
kz engineers doing their best to make progressively worse iems
idk it might be fun for some older music that has no bass
sub bass yeah
midbass nah
and older music tends to respond really bad to emphasized sub bass
they are generally already really low in bass resolution due to loudness wars, when you emphasize it even further it just becomes hyper mud
anyone know of any free and easy to use apps or settings to play on 2 audio devices at once
i want to use the bluetooth output and headphone out on my pc at the same time for different devices
look into virtual audio cables. im not too familair with exactly what to use but ive used them before to to this
even considering they are iems?
those have good reasons to have emphasized bass
stock truthear red definitely doesnt have too much bass

I am using it right now with dt880
with proper ear placement you can avoid most of the treble
I paired the dac with the 100 euro iFi Audio iPower X
why
literally me
when grey tells me that he bought a bad dac for 1500
stop chasing distortion profiles that have not been proven to be audible and just buy a well measuring source chain
the dac is great
it does what it is supposed to
mojo 2?
Chord Qutest
best dac
...
the hidden feature of the chord dacs is you can open the dacs internals and pull the marbles out and swallow them whole
i could probably consume grey and get away with it
ill help pay for your travel fees to test that out
klaus is bulletproof anyway
you live in europe
legally
I love maxing out the volume knob on my amp
... Huh. I actually never heard of the D70 Pro until now.
quite pricey but it's the best measuring dac as far as im aware
measure baiter
youre chasing distortion profiles that are not proven to be audible
you started talking about measurements
my dac has galvanic isolation
if it's inaudible in the 1st place why do you need something good measuring
you dont
i would never tell someone that you could notice the difference between a $100 dac and that d70 pro
but the fact remains that it's the best dac
No cheap earbuds needs a name this agressive
okay now that I paused the music for a second my ears hurt like hell
eye of killing god lmao
would
a lot of dacs these days are maxing out the apx555. they inflate their numbers by having a higher output. and without a point average and standard deviation, "best measuring" is a matter of luck.
Chord has a completely custom dac implementation
im glad your $1500 binary to voltage conversion box works as intended grey
i would hope it does

after i upgrade my speakers i think this is next
it makes everything sound like shit
I hear now that every song is mastered like dog water
that price is insane but it looks cool
DCS bartok is insanely priced.
this is almost affordable.
now that is downright gorgeous
imagine if I came into your house just to leave a scratch mark on that perfectly finished surface
I use the Schiit RCA cables
what do I do now with my silver 4.4mm to dual xlr interconnect cable special made by antonio
I spent 80 bucks on that mfer
My budget-mindedness at the back of my mind is looking at this in paranoia right now. Lmao.
the bigger the audiophile the bigger the hearing damage
i think thats just your dt880s
I am using he1000 stealth rn
ima be honest, the zen dac signature v2 was completely fine
the money spent on the Chord Qutest was just for the sake of it

I am the kind of mfer to listen to bright headphones while having my monitor brightness turned up to max (blinding)
max brightness for the win
do you know how many nits the display you're using sustains at fullscreen 100%?
im using one that does about 450 and it's on the edge of being too much
my other monitor will do 750 and that genuinely made my eyes water when i got flashbanged in games
the zen dac signature sounds a bit warmer and fuller
honestly its more coherent
maybe I change my opinion in a few days
okay I now got the output voltage matched
volume matched too
@unique wind @warm scarab @lean grove its almost impossible to tell the difference between the 2 dacs if I am completely honest
the only thing I notice is the qutest taking the edge off everything a tiny bit
it just ends up making the zen dac sound more detailed

if I had made as many bad audio purchases as you have I would honestly stop admitting it
the truth has been revealed
for that I commend you
Anyone see Dan's short circuit on the Edifier speaker that just released? Any thoughts?
edifier generally makes decent stuff.
i dont like how aggressively they marketed to the "gamer" industrail aesthetic. tells me its more expensive than it needs to be. at $200, edifier has better speakers.
better stereo speakers
i think they have a mono bluetooth speakers too. the D12 and MS50A.
I think this is just ur standard bt speaker
A competitor to those Ikea speakers yk
for a room with a gamers aesthetic, not for actual sonic performance
which ikea speaker
cuz they have some that dont look too bad
does anyone known a good wireless headset for around 100 euro (idc about the microhpone because im buying a studio microphone)
im gonna use it for gaming mainly
looks expensive
how much should I pay for dt 770s

$0 and then toss them in the garbage
can be alright with eq but the use purple of every headphone you mentioned is different what do you want
ill just get some hd681
why do those look like an akg ripoff, but with a sennheiser name, but not even from sennheiser
they are k240 rip offs
are you asking why a chinese electronics company would rip off a design from a bigger brand?

cant think of a worse headphone to rip off
but i guess all they need to do is make it pretty enough to sell on amazon
yeah for budget headphones the hd681 and sr 850 aren't bad
what makes you say that
those are terrible
even for budget standards
thats what I heard
From who
idk
man was groomed by deafpods
hey people , i need help buying headphones and i am really confused on what to do
can some god sent angel help me out here
What are you looking for in a headphone?
honnestly the bose headphones are really good
lightweight, exelent cancelation, comfortable, not too much bass
i was looking at Sennheiser HD 400s and Audio-Technica Ath-M20X , any opinions on these ??
The hd 400s are good
ps i am third world dweller , so anything over 60 dollars and i will have to sell my soul to the bank devils and get an emi

there are some really decent cheap headphones out there
ohh alright , ill go ahead and buy that . Thanks a lot for you help , i am very thankful and grateful for it .
ahh yes , the aussie dank techie , thanks for the link ill go watch it right ahead .
do not check out that video
i cant tell if this is passive agressive or genuine
why ?? because its 3 years old ??
dankpods is not exactly a reliable source for headphone advice
ohh
but its not entirely wrong
don't get your audio recommendations soley from a drummer
the only reason why hes popular is because teenagers formed a cult of personality around him
no matter how good you are at protecting your ears, drumming for as long as wade has will do damage
every headphone he recommends are easily beat by another headphone at their price range
and most of the hps he recommends are not good
as with literally anything, get your information from multiple sources
aside from hd600
what about the Sennheiser HD 400s , are they good ??
Yo, I need assistance finding a better mic. I currently have the razor siren mini and I really just want something a little more professional and better sounding. If anyone has a recommendation please just ping me.
ass
no
not really
avoid both
they are all crap
heres the headphones:
ksc75 or ksc75x - new (open back)
maybe k361/k371 if you can get them used - used (closed)

woah
I need a replacement driver for my dt880. Is this what in looking for?
https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/system-dt-880-series.html
you could get it from beyer themselves
Y’all pray for me to have the strength to wire an amp and sub in my 2021 Honda accord
im praying for your downfall.
What are the bass levels like on the dt770 pros?
not as blown up as the m50x
on mine it's basically neutral because the pads are worn down. otherwise it's like 5-7db extra. I don't like that 80hz dip, makes it hard for mixing
I can really hear the difference between my standard S/PIDF cable and my gold plated one
I guess it was 300 euro well spent
blind tested?
Ifi uno vs topping DX1? I use Sennheiser hd560s and sometimes Sennheiser hd58x
the ifi amps have too much gain and are not good for lower volume listening
I'd just get the topping
the fiio k3 also exists
I love it when my speakers vibrate the glass in my window to the point I can hear it 😍
So you mean even when the low gain switches on, and you have the volume low that there's a noise? I'm just trying to understand what you mean. Im new to this
ifi stuff has really bad volume knobs, one ear will be louder than the other below 40% volume
but around 50% volume its too loud
so you don't have much room to play with the volume knob before running into a channel imbalance or turning up the volume too loud
Interesting
I think my speakers are literally making me feel like I need to puke

not sure but they tend to have high highs maybe look at k361 and or k371 for that price
Hilarious 🤣 Not certain everyone will get the sarcasm though 😁
if it's not made of liquid metal 👎🏻
Anyone have some recommendations for a speaker control hub I need to to be able to switch between Bluetooth and aux
I already have speakers and a bass
there are lots of speaker output switches on amazon for aux switches. otherwise maybe see with wiim has to offer in your budget
The m50x by audio technica?
If so are they a good overall pick
As well as for gaming
AKG K361/K371, Shure SRH440/840 and Rode NTH100 are better options
all at the same or lower price
I wanna get the beyerdynamic dt 990 pro 80 ohms but im looking that i need an amp for them would the sc3 fifine work with them? Im looking at the website and it shows that it supports from 32 ohms to 250 but I just wanna make sure it does before I spend money on them
Do not get the dt990. It's treble is so boosted you'll mess up your hearing. For me It's impossible to listen for longer than 1 minute before fatiguing my ears.
It gives you an actual headache
but a lot of people love them
you dont really need an amp with these to get them loud
thats the point of the 80 ohm
Ty
I really like them for gaming yes, more than the dt770 80 ohm, srh440A and much more than k361/371
because I got higher instrument separation out of them, and I could tell the direction of sounds pretty easily
but the bass is bloated yes, and not very controlled
also a dip around 200hz which is non-ideal for half of the sound signature of footsteps
I don't usually eq it but it's an option
kind of spacious, definitely falling short of the dt770 though
m50x is a controversial headphone and people seem to have wildly different experiences
plenty who love it, plenty who don't
not as comfortable either I would say, with the earpads which are a little shallow
after an hour I'll feel it
It should have told you to buy a blender
dac doesn't provide power, or at least not in a way that affects the headphones
it skipped gongle
which I'm not saying is the end all be all, but it's pretty damn transparent and that money could be allocated towards a different amp or headphones
my magni 3 heresy is fine. provides the same sound but louder and with more current capability
would take something pretty exotic to make me consider upgrading, possibly he6 or akg k1000
I'd that's the case then why would I look at them as an option for gaming then
well because 1: you can still hear footsteps based on the top end, and 2. because you can eq the headphones if you wish
it's not like 200hz is just gone either, it's audible, just not boosted like most headsets
their instrument separation and their ability to let me determine frontwards vs backwards sounds were both higher than the sennheiser hd560s
especially that 2nd part
That was another pair I had looked at previously
instrument separation is important for hearing things behind layered sounds. footsteps over gunfire, reloads over explosions, dialog over all the other sounds
I had been talking to some other people and they warned of the m50x very poor build quality
eh? I don't think that's a common stance
shure srh440 and 840 non-a and rode nth100 have critical and common issues with the chassis breaking at the slider or adjustment bracket or the hinge
akg k361 and 371 are kinda just wireframe imo but other people commonly warn others about the build quality
m50x is a lot of plastic
a lot of metal on the sliders too
I have been recommended the Akg a lot but they do not look very appealing to me
I should record some of those with the titanfall 2 test audio
my favorite for gaming in this pricerange is still the mc450 hands down
Has anyone ever used Bone Conduction headphones before? Specifically for use with discord?
might give the m50x an edge in telling front from back
and the mc450 is bass light and bright but...
oh I didn't send the hd560s one though
As someone who knows pretty much nothing about audio a lot of these details that you point out will I really even notice from day to day use without actively seeking out their faults
high probability but not guaranteed
usually people who don't know a lot about sound will hear it and say "wow this is better!" but are unable to quantify or explain why it sounds better
but sometimes someone's like "doesn't sound any different than my old headset
which is rare but it happens
the point of headphones like this are to hear things that were missing before
whats not appealing about them?
no
because he is advising you to get m50x
jackson why do you do this
shit headphone with poor bass resolution
zero soundstage
alright imaging
they are good
which one should i get for gaming.

The choices aren't far off from what actually gets recommended but it's justification for each choice is the same thing over and over.
It likely learned this from scraping Reddit posts which makes sense.
What does all of that mean
imaging is the direction sound is coming from
soundstage is how big the 3d imaginary room of the headphone is
resolution is responsivity to me
m50x bass just rumbles it doesn't slam or is detailed at all
k371 bass isn't too different but at least the frequency response saves it
What would you recommend then for around $150 usd possibly 200
Mainly just for music and gaming
if u want very good bass, headphones simply dont do that in that price range
iems are what I rec for bass
k371 like the previous guys said
k371 is indeed good
Hello chat, I'm looking to upgrade my setup to an xlr microphone/mixer set, I would like for some advice on stuff I can buy, I don't currently have anything but a hyperx usb microphone but I want to replace that aswell
How much do you wanna spend?
1k max, usd
Oh yeah you can get something pretty good for that, but idk how to properly spend that budget.
Personally I would get a Motu m2 and an Aston origin. The mixer is not something I see myself using.
The elgato wave XLR and an sm58 would probably go over better for what you want.
You might have better luck asking in the podcast age discord since they're pretty much exclusively interested in this stuff.
Mind passing me a link to the server then?
Bot will censor it. The discord link is literally /podcastage
Vanity link.
the k361 to me is like what the m50x is to many audiophiles
m50x bass is certainly a weakpoint, it's a little boomy. this seems to happen to bass when it's frequency response has notches in certain areas. and eq restores some of this control, but not all
on the other hand, the thing I like the most about the k361 is the bass
it may even be a little shy of neutral but it's tight
its better to recommend things based off of general consensus rather than just personal preference. of course its good to be aware of both, but if someone is new and they dont know what they want, if you can give them a recommendation that most people like, statistically, it will be better for them
thing is, audiophile consensus on the m50x leans way differently from the music production consensus
there's still plenty who dislike it, but it's the minority
the musicians ive talked to about the subject tend to care a lot less about audio reproduction and moreso the content itself.
yes
and if people were coming to musicians for audio equipment that would be relevent
but they're coming to audiophiles
for advice on good headphones
it's a mostly logical guess in terms of where to seek help
I try to absorb the advice and experiences of tons of gamers
they're commonly recommended things like the k361 and hd560s and maxwell
which are headphones popular in the audiophile space for non-gaming purposes too
and then I tried some things like normal headsets and tried to judge it's utility specific to gaming
I reached different conclusions than the common recommendations of audiophiles
so have a few other gamers but it's kinda rare to hear them talking about those headphones
then there's some audiophiles saying any headphone can do "7.1 surround sound" not just in the sense of compatibility because it's stereo but because all headphones can do it equally
there's a lot of variance in what audiophiles think is important or unimportant for gaming too
so yes, I don't have a lot of trust in the audiophile community when it comes to gaming audio
gaming audio isn't as demanding as people think tho. because 99% of gamers are happily being served shit on a platter when they're buying these headsets. they've never heard good audio. and when they do, they start to see the flies and the smell what they used to like
hm... yes and no?
generally what I see when someone's sold on a pair of audiophile headphones for gaming and then they actually say something afterwards is this
"it sounds way clearer but I can't tell where things are nearly as well"
whether that actually impacts their gaming performance in any meaningful way is up for debate, but certainly non-zero
but it's something these people are frequently looking for in their next headphones/headset
ive never heard that of anyone that ive recommended headphones to. its usually that they clamp too hard or theres not enough bass.
and these otherwise POS headsets generally excel in that area regarding differentiating front from back
they also sometimes boost areas of the frequency response relevant to hearing important sounds in games
I mean eq exists for the latter on normal headphones
quite a few headsets these days are below neutral in the sub bass
common in steelseries, astro, logitech iirc
but yes, the bass of an hd600 is generally seen as quiet
even hd560s sometimes
comfort issues are probably the most common I see yes
headphones in general
Looking for a 50€ microphone for Christmas. I would now get either the fifine am8 or the razer sieren mini. Which of the two is better and is there anything else better for €50 (can only be ordered on Amazon
guys Im doing audio for my school theater what speakers should we use?
Big ones.
This is just out of pure curiosity and no guarantee I can help you, but is there not already a stationary PA system in place?
I don't know if I am experienced enough to help you but there's a chance.
what mic is this? (i dont need to know the stand)
Are flac files worth it over 320? I don't currently have nice headphones and a DAC/AMP, but I'm planning on getting one eventually
They're just....gigantic
320 what
actually I would say no
a well mastered 320mp3 will sound the same as any flac to basically everyone
You need to know what to look for if you're trying to hear the difference, most people don't
I'd argue 99% of people won't
if you want to test for yourself, here it is
Do an ABX test in your browser, and see if you can tell the difference between lossless and lossy audio
not really imo
its an incredibly insignificant difference you can barely hear in some tracks that you need full focus in order to hear in like a few seconds of the song maybe
Does anybody know if an aux cord will have better audio quality than 2.4ghz from the same headphone?
depends on the headphone
Audeze Maxwell
try?
Is £45 enough for a decent mic and webcam or should I save up more? I'm just new to audio tech and wanted to start off with a reasonable budget but don't really know what a reasonable one is...
One which allows me to record vocal covers.
If you are asking about like what type of mic. I think there is like those xlr ones which require an audio interface??? Or usb ones. For ease of setup and probably cheaper (probably worse quality.) I'd probably go for a USB one.
I don't really know any webcam types.
What kind of money should I be spending minimum for them?
so far ive only gotten the feedback of "bass is a bit weak"
same
Ah ok. So around 45 is the minimum. If that's the case. I'll try and get 60-70 saved for a decent USB mic.
you can get decent for 45$ if you want to go 70$ may as well add a bit more for an xlr setup
Ah ok. I'm talking in GBP btw not dollar my bad for not saying sooner but if that's the case I'll try to get enough saved for an xlr setup. So something like £80-120 I'm guessing?
In that case I could probably just save for a month or two after Christmas to get that if I'm lucky.
Ehat usb mic options can I get for that?
45 bucks that is.
don't know your pricing but cheapest id recommend is xm8500 + behringer um2 + cheapest xlr cable + cheapest innogear arm
you can upgrade xm8500 to behringer c1 if you want better sound
I found the audio interface for £27 and a bundle with cable, mic and arm for £43 that works for me. I might consider getting a beringer c1 instead.
Thanks for the advice. Have a nice day.
Also this bundle for £62 I'm probably gonna cop it.
Again thanks for the advice so much. Have a nice day and merry Christmas.
you are welcome
also I recommend looking up some mic techniques for the c1, its not super straightforward to use
its really simple to use but you need to set the gain lower than you would on a dynamic and get close to it
that's about it
and I advise a pop filter or a windshield for plosive protection, it isn't needed but if you want to do vocals it will help
Set the gain lower than you would on a dynamic? Seems I need to watch some tutorials on setting up a mic when I buy it.
yeah, it its all simple stuff but you need to know how it works and set it up properly at least once
Will i need an AMP for my hd560s for gaming
no
would a cheap amp be beneficial? would i notice any difference in sound
I have a headphone with mic and it has a single 4pin outlet and whenever i connect it my audio part of the headphone work good but my mic doesn't work at all/it doesn't even show up on my PC, but when I use my 4pin to 2×3pin splitter for separate mic and audio , my mic part works fine but my audio of headphones get messed up by only giving out monotone and not stereo.
need help
Maybe. Depends on how good of a listener you are. The cheapest to recommend would be a dongle of some sort. Apple USB headphone adapter, Meizu hifi dongle, some dongle with a cx31993 chip in it, or the fosi ds1 would be the cheap stuff to look for.
If you're the type to listen to a song over and over again trying to figure out what that one instrument is, then you'll probably be the type to obsess over amps and DACs.
Nah i but id love to hear every footstep and detail in games
ill just use it without an amp and get one some time later
but it will run no problem without an amp right?

literally doesn't matter if you have an amp or not
that's not what an amp does unless your headphones are shitting themselves from distortion due to another malfunctioning amp
Unless youre plugging it into a McDonald's toy, it will be fine.
And yes.
ok thanks
Hey can someone recommend me a ps5 headset? So far I've been looking at the arctic 7+, budget is around 100 usd
I want something for slight gaming and voice chatting
Cloud 2
Arrives by Thu, Dec 21 Buy HyperX Cloud II - Gaming Headset (Black-Red) - Stereo - Mini-phone (3.5mm), USB 2.0 - Wired - 60 Ohm - 10 Hz - 23 kHz - Over-the-ear - Binaural - Circumaural - 3.28 ft Cable - Condenser, Electret, Noi at Walmart.com
This one?
Any particular requirements ? If not a cloud 2 should be good
Not really, just want decent audio and a mic so I can voice chat
Yeah this has been the go to recc for some while
Yeah then this should do well
Sick, tysm!
Your welcome!
um2 is usable, how much more is an mtrack solo and xm8500?
really.
says the pot is bad
oh
build is bad
and driver issues are a problem
i mean it is fine i don't disagree
but after speaking to him i couldn't find any reason to recommend it over um2
ok so my take is that the pot is a bit finicky because like 90% of the gain is in the last quarter turn of the knob
the preamps are far cleaner than the um2, if it's against the umc22 then it's a tossup
aren't those two the same price
m audio has native asio drivers whereas Behringer for umc22 and below requires use of something like asio4all which is fine
no um2 is 10 usd cheaper than m track solo, umc22 is 10 more iirc
um2 is 40usd, m track solo is 50, umc22 is 60
i wonder about eu prices
umc202hd is far better than all of these so there's that
yes EU is a bit different
think behringers may be more expensive
But while I get why the engineer doesn't recommend the mtrack solo over the um2, I find that despite its flaws the m track solo is more capable than both the um2 and umc22
umc22 is built quite a bit better though, um2 is similar to mtrack solo other than it's an even cheaper finish
Drivers aren't really an issue
apparently they are
if you have issues with m audio stock drivers then use asio4all
not scarlett tier but
the stock drivers don't do anything other than set buffer size and sample rate
it prevents generic windows drivers from working
um2 and umc22 have nothing
never had that issue
yeah that's a good thing
it uses generic drivers
least chance of fuckup
and it does suffer quality wise because of it
how
that's why you need to use asio
asio4all
Windows audio drivers suck.
bro
everything about windows audio is bad
its literally the drivers with least chance of messing up
not like you are asking it to upsample something
if you're looking purely at functionality then sure
what are you looking at
Actual use and performance
sort of actually
Not quite sound but stuff like latency is quite bad
why do you care about latency in an interface with a instrument in that has a direct feedback to the headphone socket
that said, the combo the guy sent is very cheap fwiw
if this was a studio item where the audio is broadcasted across a network or something id get it but like its a 50$ interface
oh the monitoring jack is also unusable on all of the interfaces
very high output impedance
its an input bro
Being able to mix your direct monitoring and playback would be nice
i am pretty sure that's what instrument in does
its for monitoring
Either way that just proves umc202hd is better than everything else xd
definitely enough
I think it's 80 that goes down to 50 on sale
does it have asio
yep
pretty based
the ONLY problem with it is that it's marketed as 192khz when the ADC is 96khz only iirc
so setting any higher is doing nothing
but it's overall better than everything below its price and has two inputs
it's built well and works good enough
who cares about 192 tbh
I'm sure the 2400g I have won't scream in terror as I use it to edit audio files and upload them...
Around £40 brand new and £28 used
oh. 2400g?
uhm
perhaps use a bit of the budget on a used 3600
they should go for about 50 bucks which is I think 35-40ish GBP?
I'm Canadian so it's like 65cad ish
Yeah... I need one with an igpu. Tho so sadge.
It'll take longer to load stuff but honestly i don't mind waiting if it means I can use that money to start a proper recording rig.
what do you have right now?
Pc case and powersupply. Haven't ordered anything else apart from a random pa120se i found for £15.
Xd
Ok uhm
What about going intel
anything without "F" behind the name has igpu
I mean I could but would the ultra budget space really work in that case? Especially if I want to consider and upgrade path.
how much are you looking to upgrade in the future?
for example, you could be getting a pretty responsive system with a modern i3 and still use it's igpu
but if you go am4 your best upgrade path would be anything to a 5700x or 5800x3d or of the sorts
That was my plan.
Ic.
idk I just have a hard time recommending buying stuff that you know you'll replace
it's like taking two steps forward one step back imo
If that's what you want to do though it's probably ok?
the issue with 2400g is that it's first generation zen
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/VxgGh3 this is the other stuff I was planning on buying.
Again the cpu is quite annoying for me as I'd really wanna get smthn like a 3600 and then pair it with a gpu but I don't think it's enough.
Part List
do you guys get boxing day?
Ye
yea perhaps wait until then before pulling the trigger on anything
then reevaluate how much money you can spend on a pc
but most importantly, don't spend money you don't have. be prepared if something goes wrongg
it's literally in a week after all
True
That or I do something like buy a 5700xt for my grandads 4770k pc which has a webcam already and then spend the rest of the money on a decent mic setup?
Lowkey that might be a better experience for the time being, but windows 10 loses support in 2025 and when you upgrade the cpu it's gonna have to be a whole platform upgrade
your downfall was not spending enough money
maybe a $14000 dac will be better than your $300 dac
Maybe it will, but my priority should clearly be a susvara
bros third eye has opened
So should Linus pick up one of these so he can tear it to bits. I honestly I don’t know how audiophile bs is even legal.
It's legal because nobody is forcing you to pay for it
you could've been perfectly fine and content with life without knowing that even existed
data errors when going into a dac sound like loud clicks and pops because the flipping of a mildly significant bit (which bit is corrupted would be random) shows up in the pcm as a transient / square wave edge
if you don't hear this, you're not getting data errors
and if data errors after network error correction happened like this, nobody would be able to download files or programs without them being corrupted to hell and gone
but linus reviewing this would change nothing
and fighting over whether these things are real between two groups that have made up their minds leads to nothing but hard feelings
audio's a subjective hobby and that includes the parts that give audiophiles a bad reputation, regardless of science
and science is equally misused and misimplemented to try and invalidate things that are generally real
science for the win
If you want to sing a vocal cover to a song.
Would you record your voice along with the backing track or would you combine your vocals with the backing track in editing?
Anyone her ever used superlux headphones?
Yeah they're not that great.
Thoughts on why?
I've heard of them a while back
but never really bothered buying one
but today I saw one again
Durability on them sucks, specifically the cable connection. They're about as comfortable as a chuckecheese ball pit. Plastic on plastic. And they don't sound all that good compared to other options from koss.
not that the koss doesn't have similar issues
but yes I hate the comfort of that style of headphone
samson sr850 sounds nice minus the aggressive treble. a little more authoritative and separated than ksc75 and kph40. but wow those earpads
with some 3rd party earpads and eq they're excellent, but that's a pretty big difference from stock
stage isn't as impressive as ksc75
ur40 is an interesting choice
Check out that coil
I know it's typical but M50x or Dt 700 Pro 80 ohm
Why those two
i need studio headphones and i need to decide between these two
i like both but can't have both
If I had to choose between those two, I would go for the dt700x.
You should also take a look at the hd560s and hd6xx from Sennheiser.
Or the dt880 as an alternative to the 6xx
Im trying to find some sort of usb audio amp or something for my phone
I have USB headphones and my phone doesnt output enough power via the USB port to play it louder than like 10%
Wondering if a USB to 2x USB splitter will work for plugging my headphones into my phone and portable battery at the same time?
Can anyone give me a run down of what these colors mean?
I’m like just getting into this so idk what these mean
It changes colors based on the format your music file is in. Unless you go out of your way for something special, 99% of the time it will be green.
If you use tidal it might change to magenta when you use MQA
But MQA is dying to maybe not.
I meant between the DT 770 Pro regular not X, they're too expensive
like the M50x and the DT770 Pro 80 ohms are arround the same price
Gun to my head I would still pick the 770. But i would still recommend trying to find an open box or used dt880, hd560s or 6xx on eBay.
I was gonna recommend one I got on Amazon, but it's gone/more expensive now
its gonna take a while before it dies out, probably never
tidal doesn't have flac files available for most songs
you get mqa if they dont have the original flac file on tidal
which is almost certainly an indication that they upsampled the original audio
artists reported this happening several times
so they are scamming users
I wold go open back but my office is next to a window facing a road so it can get annoying plus i like silence, so close back
Can you send the link either way? Id like to alteast see what it is plz
The headphones are the corsair HS60 Haptic btw
no idea why your headphones matter. but you need an amplified usb c device that works with phone?
Basically, anything that can have higher power output via USB that is portable
Headphones are A
jesus Christ
?
that is now how amplifying works
Well ik but idk how else to word it
you can't just send more power to the headphones usb line and expect louder sound
My laptop can do full volume but my phone maxes out at what sounds like 5
I'll look it up when I get home
I have a portable battery so wondering if i can use the power from that but sound from my phone
K
I tried but i couldnt find much useful
is the cable removable at all?
is loudness an issue?
the solution is: never buy usb headphones
I got it for the haptic motors and styling
I do miss my old ones
The hs60 pro surround basically the same but AUX and no haptic
do you know how to solder?
damn...
Would my original idea work?
Just usb y splitter into my phone and battery bank?
Or is that disaster waiting to happen?
no, that would just reduce phone battery usage or charge your phone
Oh ok makes sense
What would be the issue causing low vol?
Low wattage or is it ohms?
more likely android is limiting the volume for some reason
if there wasnt enough power it wouldn't be low volume, it would sound like shit
and impedance isnt a thing over usb
Huh weird
Oh ok wasnt sure about that with usb
My old ones, same headphones basically just aux would do fine from usb c to aux
But these using usb c to usb a are super quiet
Same on my quest 2
how do they do on your computer?
Hella loud
Same on my laptop
But the 2 ports on the left of my laptop do output pretty quiet but not as quiet, only the right ports are loud
My pc is fine on all
you know what...try a y adapter. see what happens
I really have to caution against this type. it causes strain on the usb port
time to see if my new battery makes my hearing equipment work
Which is better https://a.co/d/h4cCH5S

Mainly want the Skullcandy crushers for the insane bass

Immerse yourself in superb, spatial audio on the go for up to 50 hours or enjoy the cla...
I have no real knowledge about either, but I trust JBL more than I ttrust Skullcandy
what do you want them to do?
because the mc450 is about $148 from thomann right now
and between the m50x and dt770 80 ohm it kinda wipes the floor with them in instrument separation
but is open back
same story against hd560s
and probably hd6xx if it's at least marginally weaker in instrument separation than the hd600
keyword surgical
I prioritize having instrument separation above all else in mixing headphones because even if the tonality is unbalanced, after mildly learning the sound signature of the headphones it's easy to hear the volume of an instrument's frequencies compared to another's
there was no question regarding which frequencies or tone anomaly belonged to what instrument
which for me personally led to easy level matching and eq decisions that required drastically less revisions to get to my final mix
instrument separation is also useful for finding problems in your sound design

Are wired in-ear buds still a thing? Or is everyone moving to wireless?
wired are definitely a thing.
I recently paid about 20 dollars for some wired earbuds. I think they're pretty ok.
did you get any of the meme ones?
Thinking about getting some sort of in-ear buds for gaming now and then when gf is asleep and I don't wanna disturb her. But want something decent that'll sound good. All I see in stores are some dirt cheap no-name brand ones
what memes are there?
truthear, moondrop, tangzu,
how much did you wanna spend
I've no idea what price range covers what tiers
tangzu wan'er and 7hz crinacle zero:2 are the cheap recommendations right now.
next step up from that would be the truthear hexa which are like $70.
but if you get the tangzus or the 7hz, they're still really good.
I expected to pay around $100 for good quality ones, lol
well, you can. but in the last 3-4 years theres been a lot of chinese companies making the new "giant killer budget iem" one after another.
and now we have really good $20 iems.

these two are gonna be the solid reccs.
they're pretty similar. the zero:red's are gonna have a little bit more bass. but otherwise they're damn close as far as sound sig
I've had pretty decent headphones in the past, $200-$300. But for how situational they are, and wires fraying, earcups not being replaceable, or the leather cracking and flaking off everywhere. I just don't see the point in spending so much on 'em. I'd rather just get some GOOD earbuds I can plug into my PC and call it a day
all the cables are replaceable.
really the limiting factor in longevity is gonna be how clean your ears are
The cable on mine is 4 wires, and the connector is a standard TRS, but if I wanted to, I could buy a new cable with a "balanced" plug, or maybe just cut the jack off my current one and just solder on a new one
I have many piercings. So I clean my ears religiously, lol. Also another reason I'm tired of headphones. Bothers me after a while
i think you'll be pleasently surprised with the quality of the $50-$70 earbuds.
Do you have a bridge piercing?
Nada, all in my ears. Save for one in my nose
That's where the bridge is...
Bridge piercing is between the eyes slightly above the nose
im not a doctor, sorry
Are you thinking of an "Industrial" piercing?
where on your nose is yours?
Left side
oh...
Nostril hoop, lol
Of those two earbuds recommended up above, 1 says "Frequently returned item"
And the cables are replaceable? Do you have to buy them separate? Are they just plug and done?
they're 2 pin cables and they're pretty common. they come with a decent cable but if you want something fancy with silver cable or a different style then you can easily replace it. and yeah its just plug and done.
yeah they add it to make the knob feel more realistic
you might be able to turn it off in the settings?
Wait....are these IEM's decent for gaming? See a lot of advertising for music on 'em
yeah. iems are usually pretty good for gaming.
id be worried about sweat maybe but other than that, go for it
I'm looking up info on articles and youtube and people are talking about amps. How important would having one be to get the most out of IEM's like this? Or is just plugging it into the 3.5 at the top of my computer enough?
the only thing you'll need to worry about is noise floor. your computer should have more than enough power for these
No idea what that is. But if my computer is enough then I'm happy, lol
its just the amount of noise that comes out of your computer and leaks into the audio signal. it'll come through as hissing, hum, or weird computery noises. it'll be pretty obvious
😬
that 8-10k peak is gonna be pure pain for those without anti-sibilance built into their ears
I have no idea what I'm looking at
it's gonna be both really shouty and sibilant
it's a frequency response graph
you know what frequency is right
left side is bass, right side is treble, and goes from left to right
I plug in headphone. I use them. They sound good or sound bad. That's all I know, lol
it's relative amplitude (volume) at a certain frequency
so you can sort of gauge how something is going to sound by looking at a measurement
for me, I use a couple pairs of iems that I'm familiar with as references
So what IEM would you recommend for gaming? That I could just plug into my computer and be done
what's the budget?
I thought I'd be spending about $100. If I could get something really good for less obviously I'd take that.
Do you know what sound signature you prefer?
No idea what a sound signature is.
Rock, alternative, some metal, classical, and some newer classical as well. But I'd mostly be using them for gaming when GF is trying to sleep
or if you'd like, you could send a track you like and I'll give you a recc on what sound signature (basically is it bassy, trebley, etc.)
Oh ok
so a generally balanced sound signature is good
tell that to every pro who uses iems for gaming xd
thats for noise isolation on stage
Are you looking for a mic or something else with the iems as well
no that's what the headset is for
iems are dogshit at imaging
IEMs don't need to image as well to still be better for gaming
vit, they literally came in here asking for iems
because they're so intimate, it still is more effective
I dunno I think my monitor is more important
the whole point
TenZ uses Truthear Zero blue, red and Moondrop Blessing 3
all iems
every day
your point?
Oh I don’t mind it I was just making sure I wasn’t breaking something ahah
is it doing the things you needed it to?
iems are better for gaming because they're more intimate, their imaging may not be as good as the greatest headphones but they don't need to be. The intimacy makes it easier to pinpoint locations
The main downside to iems for gaming is comfort
Objective and subjective data say otherwise
As I said earlier, I've spent $200-$300 on headphones in the past. But non-replaceable wires that fray, earcups that flake and fall apart, metal bits that end up snapping. I don't want to spend that all the time.
I just wanted some decent IEM's to plug into my computer to game with when GF is trying to sleep.
I'm not some crazy competitive player. I like PvE, I like cinematic games, I like good stories and to just be immersed.
Oh good, get Truthear Zero reds
very solid iems overall for about 55 bucks
Yep, but I’m using the audio interface as my dac atm, I need the d70pro to arrive so I can run everything through my pc rather than my Mac and also so I can hear the proper setup
But thank you very much for your advice I’m very happy so far
if you wanted cheaper then there's the 20 dollar kings: Truthear Hola (discontinued but still in stock), Tangzu Wan'er (jade is the best version bc cable), salnotes zero/zero2
who said this?
i use iems for gaming
There very much is "good for gaming". But it makes nowhere the amount of difference that you're trying to hype it up to be
they arent as good as a headset for gaming, but ive got used to it
iems just image better
yeah idk what you're tryna do, vit. we're literally recommending the same thing
lev needs iems, we pretty much all give the same answer
so how is "intimate" better for gaming
when you want it to be as open as possible for staging and imaging
you also forgot about the headphones part
the closed vs open backed headphones argument isn't really even an argument
applies to iems
it really doesn't
iems are worse than closed back headphones
composition fallacy
in terms of stage and openess
ur braindead
ur brainwashed
ignoring articles and research on whats best for gaming
What research.
coping with hurr hurr but this washed csgo pro uses iems!
@lean grove now ive got this amp my iems sound like they got way more bass
when they use iems and headphones to block out the announcer during events
That's what the headset is for
Are the negative opinions coming from an "audiophile" point of view? Because I am in no way an audiophile.
