Alright if they are still on sale when I get my paycheck I’ll get those, Apple dongle good enough for them too?
I also need them for gaming idk if that makes a difference
personally I wouldn't use HD600 for anything other than slow music, lel
so get hd6xx?
just the entirety of 6x0
oh boy
personally don't think they are good when trying to deal with anything else
headphones so complicated I wish there was like a clear answer as to what to get
what do you recomened for fps's like tarkov
Honestly im going from cloud 2s so as long as the hd600s would be an upgrade to those I dont really care
the sound staging isnt worse then the cloud 2s right?
it is
grrrr
which sennheisers is linus wearing?
astro a50s were my original choices but everyones told me they are terrible
Hd600
the color scheme isnt on their website
speckles or not I would have to see
don't think he would've upgraded to the new same version
6x0 last decades
so a50s over h6xx for gaming?
He-4x can be powered by the magni + right ?
they can be as long as they don't have to deal with too much noise is mostly what it is for me
too much outside noise?
ain't gonna be listening to dubstep, EDM, a lot of pop, etc
too much noise in the music/game sound
im gonna have any music on when playing so thats not the issue
it does well with slower paced music
I'm not sure if I'm following ur issue
but god, does it sound like crap trying to do stuff like heavy metal
I have HD6xx myself and have no problem with those genres
im lost i need a map
In fact, they sound fantastic
apple donglE?
I use the motus m2
If u want a dongle I'm sure there are better dongles than apples
only thing is harder to get
¯_(ツ)_/¯
lots of amazon and aliexpress only, but Europe don't use amazon for example
it exists, just barely anyone does
yeah im just on a budget under 100$
Total?
no just for the amp/dac
Plenty of decent ones under a hundred
h6xx or hd600s are gonna get bought no matter what
are u able to link me any by chance ?
Hd560s is very efficient and easy to power. So yes.
I would take 600 over 6xx at least if I had to choose between the two
Also, there are not a lot of headphones that can't be used with a dongle or basic hardware
600s are insanely neutral
600 is just better than 6xx overall
im just interested in whatever is best for fps games between the two
Hd6xx will prob go on sale again on the 4th, they were just 170
Hard to beat
Anyone know how well I could run 120 ohm headphones on an iPhone 13?
you can't, it has no headphone jack
my paycheck comes the like 13th I think so whatevers cheaper im gonna get
apple dongle still slightly concerns me
HD 6xx will be cheaper
yeah but if the hd600s are still under 300 im gonna get them prolly
depends on where you are buying from
either amazon or drop prolly
Dongle
I think 600s are 297 usd on Amazon rn
would a dragonfly red run it?
that has nothing to do with the phone anymore
i cant afford them rn
and also, ohms matters less than sensitivity anyway...
Realistically, it's just personal preference of 600 vs 6xx. Want more bass? 6xx. That simple
the best headphones ive ever owend are cloud 2s so I dont think Im gonna care much tbh
Just a straight lighting to 3.5mm? It’s still just the phone powering it so how could it make a difference? I’m new to audio so this is a genuine question
dongle just needs to be able to deliver enough
tho would have to know the specific dongle and specific headphone still...
Just the apple dongle, sennheiser hd 560s
still neither have bass
You're asking for bass in open backed headphones LOL
I would never, I hate bass
would take a ksc75 if it didn't break every 2 seconds
wouldn't trust software surround for it...
that's more fun than accuracy
how do you guys choose/know when an item is good quality and bang ffor your buck?
just try hundreds
finding reviewers that have similar tastes in music?
finding good headphones
prefer just trying them out instead, easy enough to listen for major issues like bloated bass...
for gaming under $100
I used corsair voids for a while and enjoyed them but im sure theres a better option under 100
its mostly just cloud II under 100, lel
headphones already near impossible under 100 to begin with
IEMs mostly
maybe I save up for 3000$ IEMS
my ears can't handle iems
iems can't handle my ears instead
the suction of the buds hurt my eardrums
so my final decision is hd6xx or hd600s, with the apple dac and if they are too quiet get a cheap amp.
do u agree
welcome to chasing the dragon
I've just been trying to get back to just convenience with good enough sound...
its hard trying to find something that doesn't make you throw up after all those years only ever touching the good stuff...
for summer headphones absolutely are not happening
but no tws fits my ears
otherwice I would've just gone like airpods pro 2 and QC45...
(QC45/QC35II best overall ANC headset, change my mind.. in terms of ANC + Sound quality + comfort that is, N700NC has better sound but its ANC is pretty poor)
both sound absolutely fine as long as you don't do anything latency sensitive
the QC20 is really comfortable
I've started to notice the ANC hiss a bit, but less on xm4s
I've used qc15s, QC25s, wfxm3s, xm4, by far xm4 is the best
Hi guys for a budget under 200 USD, what would you recommend for someone just going into the audio hobby? Headphones? IEM?
It depends on what you want
IEMs for portable, noise isolating use
Headphones for home listening
or headphone for all of the above because you like me can't find any in ear that even stays in your ears
So headphones is still better overall? Any recommendations for entry level audiophile?
Is it still Sennheisser HD 600?
ye
especially if u like vocal music
its open back though
I use ksc75 when I don't have access to hd600
Thanks!!
most open backs have more linear bass than closed backs though?
never was
6xx made hd600 mostly irrelevant
even then I like hd560s better
As long as you live in the US specifically
Because import + shipping makes it cost more
Which most don’t
I prefer hd600 to hd6xx
Not that either count as entry level anyway
250-350 and needing a dac/amp isn’t really entry
in europe there is hd560s
which can go for 110€
so even then hd6xx and hd600 are terrible value
155-160 mostly for 560s
Can change the pads for cheap and it will still be way cheaper if it's a problem
Suggestion for good headset with mic around or under $150? Don’t mind wired/wireless
Got a motu M4 for the price of a Motu M2 pog.
Now debating on upgrading my mic or headset first. what would be some good options? Mostly use mic with discord and recording some of my voice. Currently have a blue yeti but its a bit heavy for my mic arm. Was thinking about the SE V7 or something.
My current headset is the DT990 pro but earcups a bit small. Would the Hifiman Edition XS be a decent upgrade?
Do you think your friends on discord will appreciate the new mic more than you'll appreciate the new headphones
I think they really wont care too much but it is like 1 third of the price
So, something that's $150 that will make a minimal difference vs something that's $450 that will make a huge difference
Seems like an easy choice to me.
Hello, is Boya a good microphone manufacturer?
Linus says airpod pros 2 are his daily driver. Then I see a bunch of people saying there are “better” ones for cheaper. How is soundcore a3i? Can you tell it’s a cheap earbud?
im hesitant to believe that bunch of people because the airpod pros 2 are genuinely quite good.
you might be able to find something better/cheaper if you look at wired options.
at the very least something cheaper but similarly good
Can anyone please look into my question?
I’m looking for wireless earbuds was checking if there any actual good alternatives than AirPods for cheaper
@south portal I don't know this manufacturer, why do you want this brand and not a renown one ?
yeah no. airpod pro 2 are the best
@glad creek Which renown one?
@glad creek this cola dude has been in here for the past few weeks asking for help picking out a mic and we have helped him pick one out every time.
do not waste your time on him
Well ok
Nothing compares? For a budget range? In terms of sound quality the 20 dollar apple EarPods are enough for me honestly. They are as good as AirPods 1/2 if I remember correctly
I wanted to know about microphone.
Well just buy a behringer xm8500 you'll be happy enough
Check yt test for it to hear how it sounds then go for it
https://crinacle.com/guide/tws/
this guide is a bit old but TWS earbuds havent improved much since 2022.
so see what tickles your fancy on there
@glad creek I am with condenser microphone, not dynamic microphone. I also wanted to know about some Chinese brand.
Like you already have one ?
Yes.
Then why do you care
if you aleady own one then you should know if it's good if people complain about it sounding bad then it's bad if not it's good if you want to test it use a recording software and try it out to hear yourself
@cold spindle It captures the noise of ceiling fan above. Is it normal?
yeah i should use periods i forget them a lot....
Yes
Lower the gain, put it closer to your mouth
@glad creek I have gain around 70%, is it normal?
And use NVIDIA broadcast if it's not enough and you have a Nvidia gpu
Right click the value and show it in dB
No, there is a gain button on microphone.
if those things don't work work and you want to buy a new mic don't buy a condenser get a dynamic one. but yeah setup the windows settings to be good
@cold spindle Why dynamic microphone instead of condenser one?
Good settings and good position of the mic is more than 50% of the final sound quality imo
Like way more than 50%
I can make my mic sound ultra shitty by putting a high gain value and have it far from me
dynamic mic's are made to not pick up the rest of a room vs condenser mics. most stage microphones are dynamic for that reason
@cold spindle Do you use dynamic microphone at home?
for some things yeah for other things a condenser it depends on what is needed tho i spends a while to set it up properly
@cold spindle What do you do with a dynamic microphone and condenser microphone at home?
dynamic is like if you play a guitar and sing. and don't want to pickup the guitar coming out of the speakers back into the mic making a loop. condensor is if you only need voice recorded tho needs a lot more setup in the room and settings to be used. as it picks up more of the noises of the room so you can't have a fan blowing at the person in front of the mic. tho you can have a fan pointed at you with a dynamic mic tho it might still pick it up tho way less
Thoughts on Audeze Maxwell?
apples usb-c to 3.5mm dongle should be gud for 80ohm 770 pro right
latest hotness in gaming headsets and closed back headphones.
yes. there are only a handful of headphones which cant be used with a simple dongle and they're all really expensive or really old.
Mic seems bad from the video reviews I saw
thats what happens when you add that much noise cancelling, unfortuantely
so just take the mic off and use a $50 usb mic from amazon and you still have a good closed back wireless headphone
Yeah makes sense. I’m on the fence to spend more so might either get pc38x or HD 6xx and then separate mic
wired is always gonna be more bang for your buck.
so if you can do wired, you should.
there's also more options to waste money on amps and dacs too
sky is the limit
Haha true. Currently most of my “Audio budget” goes towards Sonos stuff for house anyway lol
Yea I just plugged in my HD6xx into them, just not loud enough. I assume 80ohm headphones will be more than loud enough
well, the ohms doesnt tell you much by itself
ohms will tell you what type of power a headphone needs. low ohms means high current, high ohms means high voltage.
and power is a factor of both current and voltage.
what you want to look at instead is the efficiency
Do you need an amplifier? How much power do you really need? And what misconceptions exist about hard to drive headphones in general?
Headphone Power Calculator: https://headphones.com/pages/headphones-power-calculator
Benchmark 'Think dB not percent': https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/interpreting-thd-measurements-think-db-no...
Got it two days ago, I've been an "audiophile" for years
It's not the most comfy, not the best sounding, I don't like closed headphones
But ? It's the best wireless gaming headset by far, and it's still a pretty good soon quality imo
Also the mic is sounding okay if you don't activate the ai noise cancellation thingy
I couldn't do wired, it's for my living room setup, such a bother
But it's honestly pretty good for what it is
However if you can play on a desktop I'd still recommend a standalone microphone with an arm mount and a dac/amp with good wired headphone
Sounds good, thanks for your experience
Yeah and as for the last part, when people said "no I want wireless" before I was like "erk well do what you want I don't care and can't help you"
Now it's more like "if you really want it you can go for the audeze Maxwell it's good for what it is "
Hello im looking for a good price-quality microphone, any recommendations? 80$>
Behringer C-1U + Behringer UM-2
um2 outdated
m track solo is where its at now
Hd6xx
6XX
interesting
hd600s or hd6xx for fps gaming
They're pretty similar. Flip a coin.
Someone said the HD 580
My coin said 600 cuz they are on amazon so I can return them if I dont like them cuz drop doesnt allow returns

ive returned a bunch of stuff to drop
Badseedtech said they dont
WHy you lie to me like that
maybe he lied to me
you know badseed?
his video
oh
well. i mean.
you can just say that they're damaged or something
and theyl take em back
yea true
badseed recomdended the FiiO K5 pro as a starter amp/dac
is he lying to me
mic reccs for 60gbp?
im sure its fine. but it doesnt have much upgradability.
i would personally go for a magni / modi
or a dongle + magni
for maximum value
how much is the dac/amp combo
of the magni
im not really looking for upgradablity something just kinda cheapish to get me started will do
not feelin the apple dongle
or, if you want maximum potential, get a qudelix 5k
not as powerful as the k5 but its gonna be powerful enough for the sennys and gives you a ton of flexability for EQ and features
too much i poor
get apple dongle and magni
dejavu
need a recommendation on a pair of over-ear headphones to use at my local arcade
requirements:
- strong noise isolation--like, very strong
- compact, easy to wear around the neck, ideally with a carrying case of some kind
- 3.5mm headphone jack only
strong isolation + compact over ear headphones is gonna be hard to find
why not iems?
have had earwax issues with in-ears in the past
ah
this is gonna be a list of best cancellation
not best sounding
aye
ideally i'd want both compactness and isolation but i guess isolation would be a priority--still would like something i can wear around my neck though
Hi yall again
Q: do I get DT990 pro or 770 pro?
Same price
Music and tv, general usage
why not dt880
What is the best way to share multiple peripherals like HD6xx headphone, usb mic w/o dac/amp, keyboard, mice and webcam between my PC and laptop? i.e I should be able to just use everything with my laptop during work time and then move all these device connection to PC later on.
Something like good USB C hub or kvm or something?
My dads dog did this in 10 seconds it’s tough 💀
Neither
Why
I have a question: why is it that mics tend to stick with one polar pattern? or at best have two?
I need a pair of headphones for gaming and everyday use(when gymming walking about etc) so wireless is preferred. The budget is between 60-100 usd and will be bought from amazon
buydig!
Well that’s impossible requirement…
Unless you are fine with insane latency in games
Or using a sweaty gaming headset in a gym, lol
And wireless at 60-100 is in ears
Not headphones
I really don't know if bookshelves speakers are better than dipolar surround speakers for surround use in my use case
Pretty sure bookshelves are super bad for this situation
Lmao it was when I didn't have an internet connection (new house), 4G access point and if it wasn't on the edge of the window I had ten times less bandwidth
Guys what's the best music streaming platform you know?
Bang for the buck?
it depends a lot on what you value; i really love apple music for its seamless integration of your own local files, and how lossless quality isn't locked to a higher price tier
however if you're a windows user you're gonna be annoyed by how you'll need to use a now-rather-deprecated itunes to access it, and iirc lossless isn't even available on windows
...but it is on android
it's a bit of a mess regarding platform availability is my point
Thanks for the reply. I use Android. I will try Apple music then
give spotify a shot too if you haven't already--it has better music recommendation algorithms and more seamlessly works with a variety of different playback devices
I'm using free Spotify. Is the paid Spotify gonna be worth it? Have you tried it.
i've used it before; it's good
again, it's just that i value apple music's lossless streaming and local files integration more than spotify's better recommendation algorithms and playback functionality
Thanks again. I think I'll try Apple music and see where it goes.
@rough schooner Spotify is good, it has good integration everywhere with for example Spotify connect, also it's not that expensive
The paid version will make the ads go away
I personally like tidal, but the tidal connect isn't as widely adopted yet, however sound quality is better.
Do mind that sound quality of the streaming service matters only if you have high end gear
as for my own problem up here, browsing rtings for my specific need was really hard due to the way they've laid things out for much more common use cases
but this might be it--compact on-ears with swivel cups so they can rest on my neck without reducing how much i can look down, ANC, and decent sound quality for being on-ears
only real downside is the lack of a carry case, which is pretty common for headphones like these tho
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/jbl-live-460nc-on-ear-noise-cancelling-bluetooth-headphones-black/15446306
Rock out to the powerful sounds of your favourite music with these JBL Live 460NC Bluetooth headphones. Designed for comfort, they feature a lightweight fabric headband and soft ear cushions for all-day wear. They're equipped with powerful 40mm drivers and JBL Signature Sound so every song, video, and phone call comes through in lifelike clarity.
Good to know
tho i'm remembering that somewhere i have a pair of wired on-ears already... i should look for those and see how they fare for now
Still no news on Spotify hifi
Spotify has local file integration
You can set up a folder on your pc. When you add them to a playlist set to download for offline usage your pc will start uploading the files to your phone
was always super finicky for me and didn't take anything other than mp3's which was a bit of a hassle
Yeah it's not good
yeah
Google music used to allow you to upload 10000 songs no strings attached
apple music is much more ironclad since it does so via the icloud music library, which basically comes included with your subscription
icloud music library supports 100,000
For free?
nah, you either need the icloud music library subscription separately, or apple music
still mad about the death of google play music btw
why would you give them to your dogs tho
hope he didnt eat any batteries or the dog gonna die
I didn't she climbed a table and got them
You know those headphone jacks on planes with the 2 little prongs? would they work on PC as a audio and microphone thingy?
On planes you know how if you want to listen to something you have to use the plane headphones cos the have the adapter at the bottom
Well what if I could use that little thing on my pc since my headphone only have one Jack
There are just adapters for it .-.
Is there any alternative to the pc38x? Price has risen like 25€ in the last week (pc37x not considerable option)
save up bozo
Any alternative to the wan er that has a mic
probability this is salvagable?
@unique wind is the mic on the wan er good?
idk
maybe
you can't really tell whether the voice coil is intact or not
ah
yea
are you going to listen in mono bro 💀
lmao i was just curious
short answer is you can't really tell without opening up the driver or testing it
fair
but it looks salvageable
def an item to remember the next time i go there
wanted to take the driver itself but i dont got any tools with me and its an alan key
i really dont think you can do anything meaningful with a single driver
you can take the magnet off and play with it
it is a big magnet so that would be fun
does anyone have experience with audiofrog GB60 setup? im trying to upgrade a model X to a full GB setup with JL amps and shit
@vast quarry did you wind up getting those big edifiers?
oh yeah they are great
not used to directional audio since i used cheapo surround for a long time but sound quality is great
best part is when i use bass i hear most of it. with the previous ones there was always the problem of being more disturbing than i noticed. but with these its the opposite
i am confused how it doesnt go through the walls like my previous setup did
cant say for sure if it was worth the 250 since i literally have nothing to really compare it to at this size level, but looking at plain personal evaluation it was a pretty good deal
and they are much more mobile than i expected
thought theyd be a 2 man job, but they are really easy to carry
yeah they probably dont have a super thick cabinet. you should play around with placement. move them more into your room, towards you, make them wider, narrower
there's gonna be a sweet spot where they sound more like a surround system
not totally surround, but it stops sounding like you have two speakers and more like you're in the recording
my main critique is the upgradeability due to being both built in and is using active speakers, and that the bass/treble knobs are at a very inconvenient spot & there's no way to change them via remote
ah
not a dealbreaker since i can still easily lean over from my desktop setup, just something i have to actively stand up for and reach over. and sometimes get my phone light out to see the current setting
still, thats only IF i wanted to look for a bad thing. id rather have a compromise like this instead of paying a premium price for a minimum raise in comfort
Does someone already have the Sennheiser IE-200 ? cable is bad but the audio quality is rumoured to be excellent for 170€
i don’t have it but i wouldn’t recommend it either
Hey anyone here know a good Amplifier/DAC for PC? Is the Objective and ODAC still the way to go? Looking for something good that has a 3.5 MM microphone input.
the objective and odac are pretty old. not bad, but not really competitive.
Would the schiit hel be way better?
uhhhh, i wouldn't say way better
schiil fulla and hel are the only two things I can think of that actually integrate a 3.5mm mic in
Wait a second does the objective DAC even have a 3.5mm input? Lol sorry am having trouble remembering
no
there's the mayflower arc which does and its based off the odac
but its also overpriced
Oh right, thanks
Is the mayflower arc really based off of it? Is one superior over the other or not?
Reason why I am asking is because I know about the mayflower arc as well.
What's it even for, anyways?
A headset?
Yeah lol but sorry I’m asking because I literally had the mayflower arc
Didn’t own the objective DAC and amp though
Is there anything wrong with it?
im not 100% sure, but they use the same chassis and mayflower sells an o2 and odac.
so im like, 70% sure
but also its like, $300
Well it was working fine before but I don’t really trust the company anymore I think. I sent mine in for repair and I think they did something to the DAC chip or something that has to do with the microphone. It doesn’t perform well anymore so I decided to just sell it. I think I will just go with the schiit stuff then unless the v2 mayflower arc is better to own.
I see, thanks for the information
Damn sucks there’s no mic input on the original o2 though.
Okay, thanks for the information but do you by any chance know if the mayflower arc is at least superior to the original o2 DAC or is it literally based off it?
i have no idea
I just want to make sure I didn’t get totally ripped off when it came to talking about DAC specs
Alright, thanks anyways, appreciate the help!
Yeah ooof
yeah. i never understood why people would spend $300 on a specialized dac amp for a $100-$200 headset.
Actually I think the 3.5MM input doesn’t bother me that much. So if I were to scratch off the 3.5MM input what are my options other than ODAC that is great right now? Pretty sure I got some options at the least
schiit has some good stuff.
if you're into clean memes, smsl and topping have some objectively good stuff
Thank you Nils is the “go to” right now probably the “Piety?” I sold my schiit stack sometime ago, kind of regret but if I could get something newer and better it wouldn’t be a hassle.
I see.
i would rather have an asgard
in fact i did, and i loved it
paired with a modi that's a good setup
Is that above 1K USD? Or under?
its under
Hmmm interesting
asgard is like, $250 i think
Oh okay thanks
i have made my decision...
for $300 CAD i would've balked at what you get in this package
but it was on sale for $170 CAD, the same price as its lower-end little brother, the 460NC
i was impressed by the ANC quality in its store demo, especially given the emphasis on portability it has
and it comes with a big egg bag
good purschase, I have a tune 760NC and its amazing
Wireless headset? For what
on-the-go listening; plus it has an aux for when i wanna play arcade games
It tuned better than the usual offerings like the sony apple etc
Just get magni+, its endgame for most people
Oh ok
JBL Quantum 100
is this okay for gaming?
getting this cause my headset doesn't have a mic
No thanks
oh u want something better jot 2 or asgard 3
Yeah that sounds better
XD
Maybe wait for Jotunheim 3
Idk
prob next year or 2 years later
If not then probably the jot 2
Okie
for jot 2 u need at least modius
since its balanced
Can I just get the true multibit DAC?
thats not balanced
if u don't want to hazzle with balanced, just get asgard 3
if u want balanced get jot 2
But can’t I just get it in the Jotunheim 2 DAC module as an upgrade?
Sorry I saw it earlier but wasn’t sure
it will sound worse than having a seperate unit due to interference + if it fails u lose both the dac and the amp
Ohhh
I didn’t know, thanks for the info.
So I should not get this setup like this right?
ye don't get that, get jot 2 with no module and at least a modius or other balanced dacs
or get asgard 3 with modi+ or modi multibit 2 or other( just not the balanced ones)
Sounds good, appreciate the help!
One more question is the lyr worth the extra $400 for tubes?
no it doesn't sound like tubes
it sounds like a solid state amp
cheapest tube that sounds like a tube and actually sounds good is the bottlehead crack, but its diy
Lmfao okay thanks
Oh damn, I actually wanted the BottleheadCrack back then too, wonder if it’s still worth to get. I actually never tried tubes but I know people who have tried and think I know how it would sound theoretically speaking. Lel
what headphones do u use
Sorry to clarify, I had the 6XX, I assume it’s equivalent to the 650’s(?)
I heard the bottle head crack isn’t good for the 6xx though
its good for hd600 though
first of all, why would spend on a source more expensive than ur headphone
Guess I could sell my 6XX for the 600s if I were to go for the BTHC
I would rec u to get more expensive headphones before spending money on a more expensive source
it would make more of a difference to ur experience
Aren’t sources supposed to be more expensive? Or should they be equivalent if not cheaper?
because 6xx scales
ik
but buying more headphones first will offer a better experience
ye
ive got a $700 amp for my 6xx
like bori and philphone
Just checked out some tubes that cost over1K, yikes they are expensive, I don’t know why anyone would buy a more cheaper source than headphones
Actually get some good headphones
Don’t worry plan on getting some better ones soon
Hd6xx is good
Yeah so why would you get a cheaper source than the headphones it makes no sense. I understand maybe equivalent value but not cheaper
headphones typically make the biggest difference. so, ideally, a going from a $100 headphones to a $1000 headphone will be a HUGE change.
meanwhile going from a $100 source to a $1000 source will be a decent, but not unrecongizably huge. a $100 headphone will still sound like a $100 headphone if its hooked up to a $100 source or a $1000 source.
Btw, enjoying your 6XX? I kinda barely use mine tbh Lmfao thinking about upgrading to HD 800S or something else.
i went from hd800 to 6xx
Yeah okay
6xx is better.
Lol really? Wtf
800 is, neat, but the vocals sound really pulled away
No way seriously?
Oh you mean regular 800 not the S right?
800s is mainly only good for classical
I like classical music so no worries
again. the 800 is neat. but the fact that its incapable of any intimacy at all kinda sucks
You are talking about the regular 800 though right?
yes
Damn I can’t believe you went from the 800 to 6XX though, that’s wild
I’d thought it be somewhat “better”
it is better in a few ways.
Gotcha
idk. i might be having a paradigm shift right now
previously i liked the really wide, really spacious sound. i used to have my speakers pulled way back so they're wider sounding
but now i got them real close in a near-field so i have this really tight imaging
its a more detailed, more precise stage, rather than a wider one
and the 6xx vs hd800 is kinda the same thing
Gotcha, btw do you by any chance know if the ones on drop.com are worth it for the 8XX series?
i havent heard anyone without an affiliate link say a kind word about them
u would have to eq them
Or should I just get the original?
they sound very strange uneqed
there are tons of used hd800 and hd800s on the market
Ah…. Okay
what music do u listen to
Wow I didn’t even know about Hifi shark, that’s a cool name for the site too, appreciate the info!
Everything but country, but even some country
everything in the hd8x0 series is incapable of intimacy
LMFaO
I see, lol thanks for the info!
Oh shit
Everyone cheer
The goxlr is dead
All development is stopping and sooner or later lack of updates and fixes will turn it into a paperweight
Its called becoming based
Less width and diffusion but narrower and precise
I’m back
Anyone got recommendations for an ok desktop amp around $80ish
2.1, also Bluetooth would be nice but not really required
Gotta power 80W-180W passive speakers and their sub
Probably however much a schiit rekkr is
There is also topping which does super clean stuff
oh god no
If you want Bluetooth then it's not anymore just an amp but a dac/amp
What ?
True. Got any ideas though? It would also have a 3.5mm or RCA input
Yeah this is possible, but Bluetooth would make it to expensive because adding a dac + bt require a lot more engineering
So either you get a less good product or a more expensive one with bt
So it's to power speakers right ? Do you know there sensitivity?
I am aware of that, thanks, might get their flagship(s) but will have to see.
iems be like
Yeah Bluetooth is just a nice-to-have but I can go without.
Yes speakers, not sure of sensitivity
They’re KLH 9362
8xx bad... already makes no sense with used HD800 being so commonly found for cheap (see them for 550-700 regularly)
Do you guys also think that the gamelinked video has horrible audio ?
pro vs con of... rather than having my cheapo desktop speakers plugged 1. directly into the hdaudio 3.5mm on the back of the pc... or... 2. plugged into the 3.5mm on the back of my monitor, which its self has a DP connection to my AMD 6750xt, which can drive audio its self... is there any difference for a set of £40 desktop speakers from creative?
Honestly don't think it matters with 40 pounds speakers
So whatever is the more handy for you
i thought as much 🙂
very similar tuning but better build and accessories than zero
can somebody help? im kinda conflicted here. i need a new portable bluetooth speaker, and i want one from JBL. idc if they are overpriced. i like them to be rather light weight, but have some wham to it. i use the speaker on a daily basis too. ive been looking at the Boombox 3 and the Partybox 110. which should i take? the 310 is too heavy and a pain in the butt to transport without car, the 110 and boombox 3 are easier. i looked at the Encore, but i dont like the sound of it. lil bit more bass needed for my preference. also i throw a party every few weeks, so it being loud is a must. idc about battery life too much, since i got a portable powerbank with 230v output
from seeing the prices, partybox 110 seems like the better deal cuz its larger
is this what a center channel does to a mf
never
Idk, man. I've chased all the soundstage memes and they've all been lacking. This is the first time in a long while I've been impressed by a pair of headphones.

I have an issue with my speakers, my amplifier is rated for 6-16ohms, and these are both 4ohm speakers, one is a 2 way (top left) and one is an old 12" car sub (bottom) to reach the rated impedance of my amp I should run these speakers in series to make 8 ohms however that causes the tweeter on my 2 way to just not work, however if wired in parallel at 2 ohma they work but I am concerned about my amplifier. Would anyone know about why this happens?
Your speakers are too high up
Your amps power rating of 6-16 ohms is a suggestion. You can usually safely run a 4 ohm speaker as long as you don't turn it to max volume.
It's 2 4 ohm speakers
And the reason why they stop working if you wire them together is because the tweeter has a filter which blocks out all bass, and the woofer has a filter which blocks out all treble. What happens when you add the filters which block out all treble and bass together?
Who built this speaker
Me and my dad
It technically does.
The voice coil of the subwoofer is so huge that it acts like a low pass filter.
A bad one
But still
You might also be messing with the ground and something's shorting
But ik one-off my subs makes a lot of treble through it but still the tweeter is silent
But still. The impedance rating on your amplifier is there so you don't accidentally draw too much current with a low impedance speaker.
But current is dependent on power. So if you don't draw too much power, then you won't draw too much current
So just for safety never take it past half volume. And if something is about to break you will definitely hear it.
Or your amp will have an auto shutoff if it's not a bottom of the barrel cheap amp
Then I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it's approaching the point where it's drawing too much current it'll sound like shit.
Like something's flapping around and broken.
Not just distortion, I'm talking about clipping
Unless I litterally short the positive and negative
Sony MHC-RG330 is the thing I'm using as my amplifier
Crazy
Is there any alternative to the pc38x? Price has risen like 25€ in the last week (pc37x not considerable option)
Any recommendations for bluetooth neck band in ear headphones with good noise cancellation?
Or, do you guys know of accessories that can sort of connect to Bluetooth earbuds? For instance if I were to buy the xm4s but wanted the security of neckband?
What
Why would you buy it for 300
This is a 200 dollar value at most
still a scam when its not 200
how so
Just got a new pc and the mic quality is a lot worse than on my previous device (gaming laptop). Any recommendations?
had to put 8kg of weight in an empty dresser drawer because my sub kept shaking it onto the floor
that's haptic feedback
my bed headboard vibrates and kicks my head
it makes my whole bed have a little vibration to it when i’m under the covers

he reviewed these a while back
Status: Temporarily out of stock. Expected to be back in stock around mid-July. The CCB-8, a constant directivity horn made in collaboration with Don Keele, is one of the industry’s best performing speakers when it comes to smooth, musical, off-axis response. Inspired by the HSU subs, the CCB-8 offers a variable tuning
i love 8” bookshelves
Because some people are like that
They gotta hate
Or they cant exist
tbh im just curious!
thinking about getting one of these to drive my HD650's but also as I am probably going to get a pair of studio monitors and it does have balance left and right channels
https://www.schiit.com/products/magnius
Petition to rename z reviews to fbi lookin for me reviews
I got two schiit products over 8 years and was disappointed both time, ESPECIALLY for my schiit magni 3+
Which has super heavy channel imbalance, audible rattling when changing volume and dead gain switch so i'm stuck on low gain
Just because they use dirt cheap potentiometer and don't know how to solder
But that's my opinion, i'm probably gonaa get hated for saying that lmao
I won't buy anything from them anymore
Oh and yeah the support doesn't want to help me, i'm not asking for anything else than to PAY for the broken parts but they don't want to bother
They don't even want to give me part number or help me in any ways
So one day i'll probably rage throw the magni 3+ amp and buy a topping one
Because my toppings never flawed me
(it's not my first dead or somewhat dead audio gear, i had an objective 2 amp that died on me too years ago for example...)
Buuuuuut
I guess if you don't have any QC issue what they do nowadays is mostly cool especially if you like the slick look
i am getting the elgato wabe dx but can i use a xlr to usb cable to directly plug it into my pc?
an xlr to usb cable is not just an xlr to usb cable so it's not a good idea to spend that much on a mic and do this
What audio interface do you recommend. If you can, I want somthing which is very budget friendly and easy to use.
A behringer uphoria umc22 or smth like that is more than enough
Still I would take a cheaper microphone and buy a better microphone arm, which I guess you didn't account in the budget
and what is a good budget boom arm if you can
since i think the boom arm is a little expensive too
Yeah it's expensive but it's honestly better to get one than going from a 60usd mic to a 120 one
Like you'll have a better experience overall and arguably better sound since the position/distance to the mouth is essential to good sound quality because otherwise you'll have to crank up the gain waay too much which destroys the sound for a mulitude of reasons
Magni+ is good
Yeah it's good, I just hope it's has better QC than what it was ...
I got a new schitt stack earlier this year and haven't noticed any qc issues or audio issues but anecdotal evidence/ymmv/etc.
Thank you so much
Is there a good budget boom arm that you recommend
Since I am very new to this
Sadly it's been a while since I have looked into boom arm, like yeaaars, mine has 10 years
It's the most known one but on the expensive side, rode psa-1. Back in the days it was either this or crappy ones or super expensive ones
Nowadays I'm pretty sure there are cheaper things that are good or maybe even better, but I didn't look them up
Had to buy a psa-1 a year ago when the cheaper tonor arm I had wouldn't hold up the weight of a new mic
K thank you
Buydig is offering me a $30 discount on the Dt770 pro 80ohm I bought for 110 including tax to not return them... But I just don't like how they sound lmao
Would have to at least double that discount
Thoughts on HD350BT?
Isn't there a law where they are forced to accept your return where you are ?
you're right that they use a cheap potentiometer, but so does just about every other $100 amplifier. but your experience with schiit is pretty rare. ive had half a dozens schiit products and they've all worked as advertised.
They're accepting it, they just offered the discount, which I replied no, how about $70 off lol
Got a broken pair of beyerdynamic dt 990 pro for 35€ and was able to fix them for free by just resoldering the left side. I am really happy right now
I mean, they do suck
when you don't own enough headphones so you buy 40 silent disco headphones
would make for okay wall decoration
Hi, I just ordered the Fifine K688, should I cancel before they package it and get the cheaper AM8?
Is going through the hassle of cancelling and returning a package really worth $30
its $20 total considering shipment costs and stuff cuz its the AM8 would be from another store.
and because of that and because of the build quality being a little better on the k688 I think I'll stick to the k688 🙂
Lol the only reason I got the k688 quickly was that it was the last one from the store I got it from and sooo yeah. I just pulled the trigger but its ok I hope.
there were 4 pieces left yesterday then 2 earlier today then only 1 like a couple hours ago so I just pulled the trigger before really watching much reviews on the AM8😂
how bad is it to run a 60 watt rms speaker 180 watt peak with a 100 watt amplifier
and what happens if i add another speaker (In parallel) of the same impedance
Just picked up the Sony WH-Ch720s for a cheap set of headphones for my desktop
They seem pretty decent so far
@blazing flower its not bad at all so long as you dont put it more power than the speaker can handle and if you put another speaker in parallel then the impedance the amplifier sees will drop dramatically and it will be unhappy
i mean if i have an amp that could handle the low impedance will it affect how much power that speaker is receiving
no.
Is this receiver worth getting?
what for
Anyone got any suggestions for stereo speakers under $500 and a dac & amp to pair with them, I haven't really set as strict as a budget for the dac & amp, but preferably not more than the speakers.
In other words I wanna future proof the dac & amp
Hifiman Sundara or Sennheiser HD 6XX
Heard more people like the 6XX over the 560s
6xx has the attention because its a cheaper hd650
had hd650s been 150 and hd560s been 300$ on release things would have been really different
order both
use them
return whichever you dislike
560s you can get for 180 rn
in united states i presume
Yup
its around 150€ and drops to 110€ in europe
you have solid return laws
order both, return what you dislike
easy
Understood
6xx good.
6XX Pog
apparently the hyper cloud 3s have a more neutral sound than the hyper cloud 2s
tbh im considering getting the hyper cloud 3s to test them out as
my main gaming headphones atm are
the hyper cloud 2s there not bad for music either, not perfect but not bad
Dropping the copy pasta in another server is wild 😭
Ever tried the PC38x from Senn?
both are great

personal comfort and if you want to use eq would probably be the most important factors
because sundara will handle eq a lot better
Interesting
mainly in the bass region because the driver has a lot less distortion
What comfort gripes did you have with sennheiser's offering as well
i’ve never tried any senny
i own sundara and love it but i think most people find 6xx more comfortable
Ahh I see I see
comfort is based on your physiology, don't get advice regarding comfort from others
True you aren't wrong about that

ask anyone

Omg klaus found out I am actually a sharur alt
Abort mission abort mission!!!!!!!
i am in your copper wires

To watch movies in the home theater
looks very unnecessary to me
with tons of random labels and features thrown onto it
buy it if you'd like but modern receivers like this are generally poor price/performance, I wouldn't pull the trigger on this
not unless you can make use of every feature a normal home theater setup would not need but rather a dolby atmos one
which is very expensive to implement
Are the liberty 2 pro worth the extra 100 ish dollars?
(I know the first one is renewed)
how do i get a cinema experience at with in terms of audio?
like base and sound quality
(on pc)
You buy expensive shit like 5.1 or even 7.2.4 ...
So 5 speakers, one subwoofer, one ht amplifier, some room correction, some room treatment...
Then you get ruined and start doing shady business to pay for your audio stuff
Then the cinema become your real life because now you are the head of a gang in order to pay for all this shit
Anyone here want to make fun of my speaker placement?
No.
how much money are you willing to spend
all that could fit in the space I have, fancy hand built plant shelves on the right
it's good enough tbh
Studio 530s and cheap 10" sealed sub driven by a Topping MX3
Yeah
I was desperate for a Dac/amp combo at the time
And haven't bothered researching and upgrading yet
stands?
left speaker could go on a stand while the right one remains in place
would open up space and make things sound better
Very true, Maybe a wall mount so it doesn't cover the vent
wall mounts aren't a good idea since you want to distance the speakers as far away from the wall generally
and if you use metal wall mounts some weird resonance bs can happen
better idea of the space
yea i mean opening up to the left is the best course of action
maybe some mineral wool behind the speaker to dampen the resonances?
Yeah the room in general definitely needs something to help with resonance/reflections
It's a Corsair K68, probably on its way out
im not a keyboard nerd so i wont judge
true
Do you/anyone else here, have some recommendations for an Amp & Dac that would work well with the confined space?
The Topping fills the room surprisingly well, but these speakers definitely deserve better
you want an smsl vmv a1
I am not confident enough to recommend speaker gear, I don't know the market well
I just know of placements
and treatment
thats why i posted it i know you know
do you have the spinning nugget
i need it
but with the minecraft spawner
i found it what a miracle
time to start saving for a couple years I guess
I need to get a second job to pay for audio specifically
honestly
yeah
no transparent background
otherwise something from burson. maybe a tiny schiit stack? modi, magni, rekkr?
big L klaus
im gonna show you my secret weapon
i will not recover from this
I'll start taking a look at those
your jiggling gifs will never outdo my photorealistic gifs
your jiggling cranberry is soiling the name of spinning food imagery
what would ashcord think if they heard of this
klaus if you screenshot this and post it in ashcord i swear to god
you are so over nils

around 300 cad (used will also work)
what sub is that?
does it have good bass?
It fills in the low end okay, but I wouldn't call it "good"
Anything actually demanding makes it fart, but in a small room and not going below 40hz or so it's okay-ish
how muchdid it cost?
Would not recommend, but again, really cheap
I got it at $90 and used it to replace the sub with my HTiB
Since then I've upgraded that 5.1 system to all Jamo speakers and a different, cheapo 12" ported sub
Cozy 5.1 HT
(used to have the PC hooked up to it until I got a desk)
edifier 1700 or Klipsch R-15PM
?
im thinking to get one of those 2 and add a 10/12 inch sub
does dongle matter if i need to extend them?
best wireless headphones for gaming with microphone for 100$?
all bad tho
hi,
my windows' volum mixer is auto changing volums of my applications,
is there anyway to stop it?

Does anyone have the WH-1000XM5s?
i just opened up this channel and this is the first thing that greeted me
put your monitors/speakers up on some supports/stands, it makes an enormous difference
I have the older generation XM3's - they don't get used much these days, but I can't get rid of them for their price, battery life, and lightweightness.
Yeah that’s awesome, I was just wondering because I got the WH-CH720Ns and it seems like they have the same driver as the XM5s, was wondering what others are doing for an EQ
Ah gotcha. I don't really pay much attention to EQing stuff these days, unless on my desktop where I have an EQ through Voicemeeter Banana. I used to love tuning my wired headphones back in the day, but now that phones don't have a headphone jack I just find using my phone's settings and the manufacturer's apps too fiddly for my tastes, so EQ is left off or set to flat.
Yeah that’s fair, right now I’m just using a V curve in the Sony app rn and they seem to do pretty well, I’m no audiophile at all, but even though these are bigger than my AirPods Pro, I’ll probably carry these around more than them, I’m pleased for $150 CAD
they have the same drivers?
From what I could find, there is not too much out there about the CH720s as they are pretty new, but they’re both 30mm dynamic drivers and the sound curve looks pretty similar to me.
that's is not something you should go off of for comparison
if you'd like for the sake of argument I can pull up ten different headphones with marginally different frequency responses with vastly different performances and drivers
aka everything hifiman makes
You’re the only one trying to start an arguement, like I said, im not an audiophile, and from what I could see they are the same driver or a very similar one
I am stating it isn't a good medium of comparison no one is trying to argue here
similar frequency response isn't a signifier of same drivers
The soundstage would be different on the XM5s of course, but from what I see they are very similar
which frequency graphs are you comparing?
The ANC isn’t too bad either
I was just comparing them off the sound guys iirc?
Actually RTINGS
Rtings graphs show they're tuned pretty similarly but the ch720 looks like it dips out more in the treble and subbass
But the Sony tuning isn't really anything special
Massive bass shelf up to 200hz and then fucked treble.
That's what the consumers want
Yeah I have been working with my EQ for a brighter sound
But these for $150 CAD compared to $400 for the XM5s, im pretty happy with them
is it really
its difficult to believe people would listen to oem 2018 and xm5 then say yeah i like xm5
I don't think so
That's what the consumer hears and can pinpoint the difference with a 30s test time *
sort of this
Yeah I'm just joking. Idk what consumers want but Sony keeps doing it and they keep selling headphones
Across the xm3, 4 and 5 you can see they actually make it worse
we do a bit of marketing
And I know a couple people who have xm5's and they wish it had more bass
The consumers want on average Harman curve if we believe the studies
ngl tho despite the sonic lacking, anc on those is insane
I just wanted a pair of cans that are Bluetooth and have wired, these were the best I could find local
i had never heard anything like that anc wise
Oh yeah for what they are I think there isn't a lot of good choices anyway so eh
Until audeze firmwares in some anc into the maxwells
At least for my budget yeah
guns were made to streamline the process
I mean good comfort, build quality, good anc, wireless, good battery is already hard to come by so ...
For sure, these CH720Ns get 35hrs with ANC, 50hrs without
I'm in the market to buy a 2 channel amplifier to power my subs and I'm looking at amplifier specs and I see loads of amps that are being promoted as 400 - 500 Watts but in the descriptions they say things like
Effective power: 40W + 40W
Maximum power: 400W + 400W
And I'm wondering if this is something I should look out for and avoid or not
Avoid anything that's surprisingly cheap.
Yeah
And anything that says 400W per channel without costing 1K
What is a good price range for 200 + 200 watts
Oh and "watts" are heavily dependant on the number of ohms of your speakers
I've checked impedances
So 200W on 4 ohms could be 130 on 8 ohms for example (arbitrary number)
And what's the sensitivity of your subs ?
I'd say that for 500€ you can get good things like: https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/power-amplifier/audiophonics-mpa-s250nc-xlr-power-amplifier-class-d-stereo-ncore-nc252mp-2x250w-4-ohm-p-14185.html
I actually can't find any other information other than what's on the back of the subs, I can't seem to find them online. They are my dads old car subs. One of them is a magnat bulldog sub 300 supreme series and the other is an infinity kappa component series kcss 120 br
Btw I'm curious of your setup
You run a stereo setup with one sub per channel and some sort of dsp somewhere to divide the stereo sound in 4 channels (2 for speakers, 2 for subs)?
Oh and don't you think that it would be interesting to just buy a good recent sub ?
Lmao wtf
Saving money where money can be saved
We made out own speaker setup using old as car speakers
Seeing this thing I don't think you should get a good high end amp haha
It's still in the making
My dad just slapped wood against my wall and spray painted it
Will you use room correction/EQ?
Yes
Will you make analog low/high pass filters or will you use dsp ?
(just curious at this point)
Still I think that what I showed above is too good for a random diy build, it would be a waste imo
I have been using software but I am gonna eventually sort out an actual low pass filter and my tweeters already have filters on them
You need another high pass filter for the normal woofers so that they don't have subwoofer frequencies
i dont think this is good advice
because car amps generally say 400w at like 0.1 ohms and other stupid stuff
which is not impossible
considering getting a hd800s so bad for those sweet enveloping vocals
I wouldn't call them enveloping
