running stax on apple dongle
apple dongle?
there is a USB-C and lightning version
Usb c version
so pluggin in the hd560s to this and then to my laptop will get me better audio quality?
Yes
hm
Mobo audio always ass
ic
The next step up from apple dongle is schiit stack
But you dont need it
HD560s doesnt need fancy sources
could buy from apple site
Buy from apple.com then
Or apple store
ok
whats the quality diff between open and closed headdphones?
is it a personal thing or would one be better suited for gaming?
Open backs are just better than closed
Its much harder to make a decent closed back
Theres really like 4 closed backs worth buying
For the money, iems will be better
Cause I was wanting ANC, long battery, and not too expensive
Ah i remember now why i liked 770
Sonova HD800
is there anyone here who knows a good ground loop isolator??
i need one for my dj setup cause i want to loop the headphone output from my dj gear back to my pc ^^
Wait
explain more clearly...
you have a ground loop in the headphone output of the DJ... mixer?
Does it not have balanced outputs?
Thinking about picking one of these up for really basic gigs, anyone used one before?
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Flow8--behringer-flow-8-8-input-digital-mixer-with-bluetooth
My experience with pro gear is: behringer has good performance and features, BUT, my advice is buy two of them if you are using them for live shows (if budget allows) - I like their gear but all of it has failed (usually in ways I’ve been able to repair but still)
I’ve used one of their 3 way mono/2 way stereo crossovers, an 8 channel mixer which had usb interface and compressors on 4 mic pre amps and one of the inuke amplifiers
The crossover had dodgy solder joins, the mixer needed a recap of its psu after 24 months, the amp needed a protection relay adding because it emitted a loud crack through the speakers when it first was powered on 😂
i find Behringers mid range and expensive stuff is meh for the price, but their cheap stuff is astronomically amazing
that message is from 8 months ago...
8 month ago... Sonova HD 800...
Imagine hd800 hearing aids
I thought air pods was all the rage for hearing aids nowadays?
Like the analyze your hearing curve
& let the sound proof blocking microphones
Do the make voices louder thingy?
Nah
No soundstage
Need that imaging for uh
Situational awareness
instead of hearing aids, maybe Sonova will introduce hearing hiv instead
can anyone help rq i messed around with my pc and now when i plug my 3.5mm jack into the motherboard i get no audio
i have it inside the green 3.5mm port
but for some reason my front i/o headphone jack works??
Cool, use the front jack!
i dont want to
for some reason its set as front speaker when it should be headphones
it shouldn't matter
Hello folks! Anyone familiar with sound cards? I’m an avid sim racer looking to extract as much out of my speakers as possible and get the best immersive surround sound experience while sim racing. I want the best internal sound card for my setup (that also doesn’t break the bank). I have an asus z590p motherboard currently using the onboard sound. I have a 7.1 setup using a mixture of totem and Polk Audio bookshelf speakers and Klipsch 12” sub. Currently, my pc is connected via hdmi from my Denon avr-4310CI to my 3080 gpu. The 3.5mm jacks on the motherboard are being used for my 3 buttkickers soon to be 5 and everything is controlled using voice meter mixer. What internal sound card would you go with if you’re looking to get better sound? I will be hooking everything up the same way but through the internal sound card.
I also race in vr. Not sure if that makes any difference here.
There’s no issues with the way things sound now but I’d like better. Is it even worth it to get a dedicated sound card?
I bought some Samson Meteor M2s for 30 USD. make fun of me
Ever considered switching from speaker to headphones ?
For me, it offers the best immersion.
Especially since you are already using VR
Nope, I prefer using speakers. Plus it’s already startling not seeing when my wife or kid walk up on me when I’m in VR. I’d at least like to be able to hear them.
I just got an at2020, at it is EXTREMELYYYY sensitive. The only way it works is if I am right next to it with the volume down. Otherwise it picks up everything. Birds chirping, even me itching my leg, any fixes?
I can call if u need to hear it
No way this mic is gonna work. Anyone have a good mic around 100 dollars that isn't sensitive?
That's exactly how mics are supposed to be used
If you want a mic to pick up you and only you, and still sound great in an untreated room, then you're gonna have to get something extremely specialized.
how do I fix it then
You put it in front of you and turn the volume down
I did and it still is extremely sensitive
picking up everything, with the foam thing on it
Is this through discord?
through discord and listen to this device
Turn off auto gain on discord
And then beyond that, you just need to make sure that the sensitivity isn't too high.
I use push to talk
Okay
can u call
I'm at karaoke
I can literally hear the highway with this mic
Look into noise gates and audio compressors
Voicemeeter is one but I kinda hate it.
You need to start it up every time you wanna talk.
ah
OBS is just for recording no?
I want it to work for when I just talk in games to people and on discord
Streaming. Now imagine you're streaming to a very select few amount of people.
I am not going to stream nor record
And instead of twitch, it's just discord and just audio instead of video
See what I'm getting at?
It's got a lot of tools and it's easy to use.
isn't it only for recording and streaming?
If you use voicemeeter it should be a startup program anyways
You can use it for discord
Idk if there's better ways but I hated using it. It was genuinely a hassle and it didn't run the background.
You can have it minimize to the tray and it should be pretty automatic
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Guess it's one of those ymmv moments
I won't recommend it. Was too much of a pain for it to be seamless for me.
I'd rather just not sound as good. My friends will cope.
If you dig it, then more power to you.
my voicemeter always says bad driver installed
If you don't set it to auto start then it would be a massive pain in the ass
*ERROR MME Input - Bad Pin Icon: %windir%\system32\mmres.dll,-3012
*ERROR MME Output - Bad Pin Icon: %windir%\system32\mmres.dll,-3010
*ERROR WDM Input - Bad Pin Icon: %windir%\system32\mmres.dll,-3012
*ERROR WDM Output - Bad Pin Icon: %windir%\system32\mmres.dll,-3010
where does voice meter have compressors and gates?
In that case, instead of a soundcard, what you want is a dedicated dac and amp.
Do you have a budget ?
I hear a loud wave noise after I speak
Then dial it down
it picks up nothing but once it hits the gate it picks up my keys and it has huge bass
The gate mutes your mic until it hears something loud enough and then it activates
So you wanna have it where it rejects the background but activates when you speak.
Compressor makes sure that loud sounds and quiet sounds sound the same volume.
So compressor and noise gate work against each other kinda.
You gotta dial it in.
yep, at2020 being hot, name a more iconic duo
tell me when you can call so I can show you
also how far away is your mic to the desk?
Can you make it so my microphone boosts for a certain app?
well first we should see if his gain isnt maxed out
if he can literally hear highways then his gain is prob maxed
well the at2020 is really that hot tbh
It's just sensitivity
hold on a min
looking at your pic, it looks like you are maxing the gain on the m track solo?
I have never sent a pic
you sent 2 pics
thought u meant the other persons pic
Fortnite mouse pad
only one track yeah
which input is it for voicemeter to work on discord
cuz it is just going through my mic, not through my mic then voicemeter
Try setting your mic to voicemeeter outpit
I figured it out but it is just picking up everything
your mic?
yeah, by default I think it sends all audio to all outputs
you need to turn off the virtual inputs to b1
iirc
basically, think of b1 as your microphone and a1 as your speakers
AT2020 has sorta harsh treble
I could understand if the fans got cucked by it
is there a mic that's good that is less sensitive?
I don't need a microphone that picks up my farts
ridiculously sensitive
first: since you already have it, just set up a noisegate
or use RTX voice or smth
when I am talking is when I hear the keyboard and mouse
yea so use rtx voice
.
I'd rather have the worlds shittiest mic that doesn't have background noise then this garbage
.
Buy a shotgun mic then
I mean
you were the one to buy a mic
that you didn't know how to use
Also just turn the gain down
gain wont help
it will
gain down, mic closer to mouth
that's literally increasing signal noise ratio
I mean that's two things instead of one which I commented to
I was explaining
check out what i just pulled off 😎
you made a spectogram?
no i maxed out spek
why
ultra lossless lossless loessless audio
I mean
if you are getting audio above 20khz
it means that your upscaling is damaging the track
meaning it's lower in quality than a normal one
spek just scales with Bit depth tho...
the original non-dynamics shifted track was already above 20khz
there are mics that respond to 48khz?
it's ripped from a CD
this is the original ^^^
they did some weird upsampling
the other one i posted i just maxed out the dynamics in soundforge studio
Oh
whatever the og owner used to rip upsampled
why do people do this
yeah ok you're right
all of my other torrents are 16/44.1
idk why this one is 24/96
how to fix my headphone jack on my motherboard?
everytime i plug my speakers or any sort of higher voltage audio set it’ll start to scream and whine
even headset
any way to fix this
the noise is only present when there is no music playing. it gets less noticable as the audio output gets stronger
also, when there is nothing playing and i increase the voltage going into the speakers it is even worse
get an apple dongle
Hence why LP so good. Giant Disc!
Takes so much space, W
W
Tfw logitech somehow thought putting this face on an ad was a good idea
The sound card is just for better audio than the onboard. I only mentioned the kickers to give a full scope of what I’m doing. I already have dedicated amps for my kickers. From the amp I’m using rca to 3.5mm cables into the corresponding channels so when I hit a curb front left in-game, that maps to front left kicker and the Jack that would be for the front left speaker if that makes sense. My budget is $300 for the sound card.
just get a dac...
Recommendation?
So dedicated sound cards aren’t necessary or useful anymore?
they never were
the only use they have is for those who don't have any space outside of the case whatsoever and just need something better than on-board
otherwise they just cost more for lower quality
Ah alright.
But you still want a DAC
If you want to get the best out of your Sound, then what you want is a DAC.
It's an external soundcard, which has the big advantage that it is located outside of your PC.
That way there will be no EM interference which you would normally get, with a soundcard located inside your PC.
The oldschool soundcards that you talk of, yes
Because of interference and the onboard sound which has been vastly improved over the years.
you can't really
given you have a decent room
speakers will always be price/performance kings
depends
I fail to understand what you are expecting of a sound card that a dedicated dac/amp cannot give?
not better for absolutely everything, but eh
it is really
you can't match speaker soundstage
clarity is dependent on the room
but near fields will generally cope well with most things
and you are never beating a subwoofer in terms of bass anyways realistically
I thought having a dedicated sound card would offer better audio quality than that of the onboard sound card
sound card audio quality is just more or less standard, to chase higher quality an external dac is a necessity for your purpose
however
unless your motherboard sound card is working particularly bad, or you have a higher end system, you will not really benefit from a dac
keep this in mind
The onboard sound is fine. Was just looking for better. 😅
I also do have a high end system
oh?
I9 11900k,3080 strix, 64gb ddr4 3200 ram, 850watt psu
Oh lol
We are talking about Audio.. xD
What speakers, what AMP ?
and do you have room treatment
if so how
and have you done room eq
Totem forest towers, totem mite bookshelves, Polk audio rti a1, Klipsch 12”sub and I have a lot of sound treatment including bass traps.
Foam bass traps for the corners
foam bass traps
don't trap bass
unfortunately
I also have them
I learned that they are purely a gimmick later on as well
if I were to get into speakers, I would just do DIY wood or smth
you need actual mineral wool treatments for bass traps
anyways
honestly
if you want to ensure you have standard level audio quality, get an apple usb c to 3.5 adapter for like 9$
the rest of your money is far better spend treating your room or doing room eq
a dac should not at all be your priority
but if you are still set on purchasing a dac then an ifi zen air dac is a nice little thing for 100$
just be sure to set it to "fixed" mode with the switch on it's back if you are using it as a dac only
no problem
kinda feel like getting those dumb logitech TWS to see if they are the first in ear that fits
The only thing I haven’t done is room eq because I need to replace the audussy cable for my avr
I don't follow
The external mic that comes with the avr to config all the levels of the speakers
interesting
It detects how far they are etc
isn't that practically doing room eq for you
It’s more or less a standard feature on home theatre avr’s
Right, that’s the only thing I haven’t done cause I need a new cable
I don't really deal with surround systems so I don't know much about them
also if its an avr system shouldn't you be using a digital cable instead of getting a dac?
since rca is only stereo
Oh no
Audussy
So the avr connects to the pc via hdmi to my gpu but uses the onboard sound card
That’s how things are wired lol. Not sure what to tell ya
I mean
the output may be on the sound card
but it does not use the onboard sound card
it's purely digital
it's just a connection
you aren't using the dac or the amp chips of the sound card
you will not benefit from replacing your sound card with a better item unless it's actively malfunctioning
in fact you will deteriorate your audio quality further if you wire a stereo dac into an avr system
Ok so this is good to know
yeah lol
Thanks for saving me money then lol
If I’m already getting the best I can. Then I’m happy.
yeah, unless the thing is literally broken you wont change anything, it's just a bunch of 0s and 1s
either works or doesn't
Copy. Well thanks for your help this morning. Greatly appreciated.
you are welcome
You will get to a point, where you have to invest a lot of money in order to get "the best".
That's why as long as you are happy with your audio, everything is fine.
Until you have an audiophile friend who shows you his $50.000 setup and you start to question everything
Lol fair enough
@molten lotus looks it’s your favorite headphone
the comfort with these is 50x better than he400se
Suspension head strap wins
it does for real
the shotty pleather headband on XS and he400se is genuinely terrible in comparison
Yeah, behringer is kinda iffy sometimes. the M32 is probably my favorite console to mix live shows on, but i'm just thinking about getting one of those for small corporate shit, and have it as just a usb interface for my pc when it's not on a gig
also I am well aware that midas makes the M32 not behringer, but it's the exact same console as behringer's X32 (Midas version has a different look, and slightly better preamps, but not by much)
I've always had good experiences with it, I've just often bought 2 of them to keep 1 as a "new spare"
But I've ALWAYS had a better time with QSC/tc electronic/focusrite etc
tbf only behringer product i've used is the x32 and xair
never had those fail though
The mixer of theirs I had claimed to have Midas mic pres in it - I bought it, because it was 150 to get pres with a basic compressor on them, it had 3 buses in total (to route my mic back into my PC separately and I could use the main output to switch between the different games consoles I had at my desk
xenyx something or other, don't remember what model now. lol
the x32 doesn't have genuine midas pres
it says "based on midas preamps" or smth like that
the m32 has genuine ones
the inuke amplifiers with the DSP built in are/were very cool
I don't know if they still do those, but that made for a REALLY compact (and cheap) solution to using something like the (widely hated) Bose 402/802 etc speakers with no crossover in them
and lightweight for carrying around, haha
not really a speaker guy 😂 mainly actually a lighting guy, but I always end up getting stuck behind an audio desk
I honestly dont know was going on with the 400se headband
did you buy them
i did yeah
bruh
they’re the first headphone i’ve ever owned that actually fits my head
makes me happy
only if they fucking sounded good
it says some things about a headphones quality if the first thing you do when you get them is to eq them
nah i listened to them for a while stock and didn’t mind at all
i just prefer more bass than any open back is going to have stock
substantially better than he400se stock
how much did you pay for them
TH909?
i debated getting anandas or lcd 2 classics but i didn’t wanna spend $550-800
i think second hand would have worked out
idk man the shelf on those starts at like 800hz
i debated getting an open box for like 230 off the hifiman site but i don’t feel scammed paying 300
they’re a lot better than he400se but i haven’t heard many headphones obviously
get sus
I mean the open box is also covered by warranty and return laws
yah i buy a lot of stuff open box
i thought i would hate the stock pads but they’re actually good
way better than the itchy garbage on he400
i have dekoni sheepskin pads coming in a few days but i might not even use them
comfort is great as is
I stuck to the og, makes it easier to apply eq presets
Has your option on technicalities have changed now that you have two headphones planars that are eqd to harman
seemed like the best option for what i was willing to spend because the selection of neutral headphones with suspension headbands isn’t very large
i don’t hear any new details in songs by any means but the soundstage is larger with these
HD600+Capra strap bruh
and they feel less bloated even though they should have the same tuning
xs caca headband
I dont think hearing new details happens after some point
worth 2 me they’re extremely comfortable
I think Michael is going to get told this each time he mentions sundaras from now on
Happened already twice
Because you have obviously only tried crappy headphones
I also agree, you can eq cope with them and make them sound surprisingly nice, but xs is just that much better
Edition xs is at least much better
it seems like a lot of audiophiles are conditioned to having a scoop in the upper mids and that may contribute to why you don’t like sundara
Minus the headband
xs headband is a dealbreaker straight up for me
??
What
I give up on headphones tho
based speaker enjoyer
i debated ananda stealth but it has really high bass distortion that made me worried about adding a bass shelf in eq and i wasn’t really wanting to spend $550 anyway
my next headphone after sundara if i ever care to upgrade will probably be audeze lcd2c
not interested in any of the hd6## series of sennys
I dont like the sundara because its mediocre, not because of some tuning quirk i dont like

the hd600 is a good headphone it just doesn’t look like something that i would find comfortable
Yes
Good shit
I mean
LCD2 plus eq
lcd2 does get a lot better with eq
As long as you arent fucked by audeze unit variation
its mid af stock tho imo
this was my original plan but i pussief out on the price
seems like it’d be a fantastic headphone
Basically all high end audezes
i don’t know how people can listen to a stock lcdx and be like yes this is the best thing under 3 grand
like do you have ears?
It is very comfy after the clamp gets loosened
Which you can do easily
i actually like strong clamp
And then I also got a suspension strap from fuku for my hd650
suspension strap senny might be nice
This
how about quitting audio and just getting crappy TWS/Headset
Klaus doesnt like 6X0 headphones tho
need to try hundreds to find one that sounds good
i think the 6xx is the most overrated audiophile headphone period but it’s not bad
not m50x?
cuz starters
just looking at frequency response i would probably prefer hd600 or 650 over the 6xx
6xx is the 650 tho
i thought 6xx has more treble and subbass roll off
weird
You probably tried it with really worn pads
Should be the same
they are same enough
For the most part
but marginally different
Any difference is slight
Planning to upgrade to a aurorus borealis down the line
@unique wind are you using amir's correction
yeah i am but slightly modified
i don’t use the 13khz peak filter and i use -7.54 preamp instead of 7.5
i’m not home right now though i’m on my way to a camp
try setting the low shelf to like 70-80hz
get Sus instead
facts
i liked the shelf starting from 70hz more
susvara with harman bass good luck powering it
50hz sounds really hollow
it’d probably be like 54db sensitivity
he1000se on a bright dac/amp when
the real challenge
oh no klaus my mistake
i’m using oratories not amir
amir eq isn’t nearly as precise
which oratory eq
i hated oratory's eq idk mate
i recommend swapping between the two presets
oratory's eq makes everything blend together and congested as hell
i haven’t tried amir’s i only had like 20 minutes to play with them
muffled
that's fair
I just recommend giving amir's eq a bit more time
to me it was significantly better than oratory's
i have arrived at camp
Tempted to order a pair of something spendy to try out
Is it ironic that someone made a set of speakers designed to look like a microphone?
Are headphones frightened of microphones?
klaus is frightened by microphones
yeah I have to doublecheck whether someone modded my drivers into mic diaphragms each time I get home
is Samson a good brand? was it ever a good brand? it's probably owned by some random chinese company now
wasn't samson a chinese company since founding
no idea
xnamkcor is frightened by chinese people
true
they had like one or two decent mics
not much else
not that I know of at least
"Samson Technologies, a US-American audio equipment company; see Wireless microphone"
oh shit...they don't even have a wikipedia article....
i messed up
samson is a subsidiary of sam ash music
which was founded in 1924 in new york
by an austrian hungarian man named sam ash
what are good wireless headphones
for?
everyday use
n700nc m2
wtf these have downright good tuning
yeah
that’s crazy for bluetooth nc headphones
do you know if the crinacle graph is measured passive or active
quietcomforts are alright as well
nope
quietcomforts are alright
but they are incredibly fragile
their anc shit itself fast
and components death are way too common
I would take the quiet comforts over the N700NCM2 if what I needed was better ANC and didn't care about a little worse sound
that's fair
BTR5 2021, a flagship portable high-fidelity bluetooth amplifier, equipped with High-performance DAC ES9219C*2, CSR8675 Bluetooth chip and XMOS XUF208 USB chip. up to 384kHz sampling rate and native DSD, support such as AAC/SBC/aptX/aptX Low Latency/aptX HD/LDAC full hi-res wireless Bluetooth for...
i don’t think i’ll ever have a use for noise cancelling headphones
that's practically wired
id rather have noise cancelling earbuds if it’s for use in public
etymotics
I want to try those logitech TWS...
the low latency ones?
you are obsessed with the logitech tws
something that might fit for once maybe
why do you think so
and doesn't require me to carry a big bag
they don't have XXS
I got my BTR5 for 20 dollars and I love it
it was from a used music store
The person probably thought it was a cheap MP3 player or something
he400se is loosey goosey ran through compared to the clamp on sundara
the fact that they didnt recognise Fiio is kinda weird though
i love it
just maybe it might work well enough that they at least don't fall out unless I force them back in every minutes or two
clamp = good if the pads are soft
buy he6
i got a goofy ass head shape remember so clamp = good for me
well, i gotta go buy some prepaid credit cards so i can pay off my medical debt without letting them know my personal financial information
so it will be even more comfortable
if all the weight is rested on the top of my head they won’t sit right
when will you try he6
where would I try it
not helping
con said he’d buy me susv
I doubt anyone in this country is intelligent enough to know what a he6 is
hifiman he6 looks kinda wack
merica?
yeah it does
i don’t think i’d ever consider buying it just because it looks so wack
cringe
merica is braindead pewpew
$1300 for circle cup hifiman is wild
im not an expert...but im pretty sure a passport is what lets you travel to other countries...or maybe that's a "VISA"...
not even close
a passport is what lets you travel to other countries you are allowed to, a visa is what is given to you temporarily for countries you can't access
carmon tier
it is a susvara driver essentially
god tier*
its like
doesn’t seem implemented well
one of the best you can own
I think you are either reading he6se measurements or someone with a scuffed rig
"can't access"? Like that one place you need an airship to get to near the end of the game?
it does have extremely low distortion even up to 104db which is cool
yeah
best looking headphone
so, if i walked to america from Germany, I could use a passport?
it looks like a case of great driver in shit container
but if i somehow got to america, from germany, with my own methods, i would just need a passport?
usa citizens don't need a visa to access germany
Say...I owned a seaworthy vessel
you get checked for a passport and visa when traveling and arrive
if you avoid it you are legally still in your own country
run fast enough to run on water
or just make a raft
you said visa was only for countries i cant access...if i sail a seaworthy vehicle I own, i can access it
not legally you can't
then i was missinformed
I mean
rationally speaking its generally easier to apply for a visa rather than handcrafting an aircraft to fly over the atlantic
successfully
so, pretty much the answer is "you only need a visa to go places you need a visa to go to"
aircrafts are heavily regulated. that would be a really inefficient way to get over the ocean
build a raft
ships are also very heavily regulated
and use your hands as paddles
you would be caught by border patrol easily
"its not a ship, it's floating wood"
Why are we talking about illegally immigrating lol
Good BT over ear headphones for Android for <150 ? no ANR needed
Jbl tune710
Already have tune 750, fitment on my ears aren't great
try n700nc m2 then
I’m looking for something that I can route all my audio for my computer, Xbox, and PlayStation audio through and have it come out to my headphones. Any ideas, I’m thinking maybe an mixer but all I can find don’t have that many red/white quarter inch inputs
gaming headset manufacturers, take note
What is that
a mic soldered to a 3.5mm jack
mic came from a landline handset
its shockingly good
compared to my normal mic
actual garbage sounds better than a gaming headset
to make it better i stuck it inside of an aluminum can
Live event battle station
I wanna buy a lands microphone now 😔
making me jealous
only ever mixed on a shitty soundcraft lx7 and a Yamaha TF3
Correction, a shitty soundcraft lx7 with shitty amps
RIP. But the TF3 is a minor favorite of mine.
You don’t know what I’d give for that mixer
@real wharf do anyone have an alternative to the corsair hs55 stereo (white) ?
Anyone using the at 2020?
Any recommendations for gaming headsets around the 65$ USD mark?
preferably available on amazon
Yes, I have it unfortunately
Arctis Nova 1. PC37X is better if you can save up to $100 tho
I'm feeling AMPed
Which speakers are better
so m-track solo is better than than focusrite scarlett solo?
yes
alr ty
pebble
cloud 2 when its on sale

If you want a mixer, this is the new meta for home setups in my opinion.
Get a Dante virtual sound card for you computer and you’re set for all the inputs.
Yeah doesn't deserve the hate it gets sometimes
For home recording studios? Or for “podcasters”
2 grand
and they call audiophiles wasteful
Is there a difference in sound quality between the Logitech G Pro and Pro x?
yes
is it a significant difference?
They are both inferior to cloud 2 so who cares
G pro or cloud alpha s?
cloud 2
What do yall think about these neckband speakers lately, great idea but poor tech? or the next best thing since sliced bread
What neckband speakers
Dolby Atmos around your neck sounds enticing
Probably sounds like low bass high treble though
This tech has been around for decades
And you don't see them in every home.
So take that as you wish.
is there a difference in the 7.1 surround sound in headphones vs in external software like Dolby atmos
yes.
yes but not the way you would think
surround in headphones is globally a meme so you shouldn't be chasing it regardless of the surround quality
google sennheiser surrounder
a zen air dac is enough to power he400se to spec
yes it is
drivability?
driving headphones is different than making them loud enough to be usable
you can find a billion class D amplifiers with 50 watt at 8 ohm outputs
the odds are they will not power a he400se better than a zen air dac
power quantity is different than power quality
that falls in a subjective definition but power properties indicate power quantity
not quality
if quantity was quality then everyone would be buying 200 watt class d amps
I mean, the distortion at those output levels are out of the picture with these 2 images
grey
this is like
if your motherboard gets shit loud enough then you don't need an amp tier argument
so how do you measure this power quality
that is the issue
the best you can get to is listening to shit yourself to establish mediums
there are too many measurements which correlate in ways we cannot measure how they will sound in the end
if we could then making dacs and amps would be incredibly easy
goldenone did a good video on this already
Do you need an amplifier? How much power do you really need? And what misconceptions exist about hard to drive headphones in general?
Headphone Power Calculator: https://headphones.com/pages/headphones-power-calculator
Benchmark 'Think dB not percent': https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/interpreting-thd-measurements-think-db-no...
we already got close to neutral audio like
real easily
99% of topping shit is already neutral enough
but we don't find neutral fun to listen to so we get amps that color shit
same with dacs
An amp might be able to supply 4W at max. But doesn't mean it can output 1W cleanly. This doesn't generally apply to the really feedback heavy stuff, but there are a LOT of amps which will have significantly higher distortion (of various types) at even just a quarter or half their max output. So if you need only 1W, doesn't mean a 6W amp is guaranteed to be fine. The power spec is basically just when the amp becomes unusable, it doesn't guarantee it performs its best upto that point.
there are headphones that can actually be considered marvelously good measuring and very close to perfect in terms of audio recreation
as far as our audio measurement abilities go
but they don't sound like, particularly better than shit like susvaras
I mean there is no guarantee it performs best til that point, true
what I am essentially getting at is
neutral audio is not what humans find stimulating, and amps help us color headphones in the higher end
you don't pay for more neutral or higher fidelity audio, you just pay for more pleasing audio
who did
Audeze anounce the second in the MM range of planar magnetic headphones,, the affordable MM100.

the guy from audeze
who was interviewed
I love how they put 3.5mm on there
and they fixed their manufacturing hence its cheaper
loved the vocals on the mm-500 if you EQ the 3k shout down a bit
only 400 dollars
i didn't know of these headphone's existence
the stage was nothing special on these
they were a bit bigger than he400se in stage
if I recall correctly
unimportant
I quite like the stage of my edition xs
just having that available to me all the time has influenced my standards tho
so all these haedphones with surround 7.1 are all gimmicks?
yes
so you can achieve the same effect with dolby atoms software?
surround sound is a gimmick with headphones in general
it is tbf
you are wrong unfortunately
a basic 2w class d single ended amp is baby shit for a manufacturer
other companies are not topping
magni 3 demonstrates that a good sounding powerful amp is pretty easy to make
yah
well yeah
entry level shit
its simple to make
still measures a lot worse than heresy
even end game measurements are pretty cheap
yet still sounds better
you fail to see that the aim isn't achieving measurements
if numerical neutrality is what we wanted everyone would be using a topping d10 dac
we don't
neutral sound is ass
that's why we spend outrageous amounts of money on colored sounding stuff
Or not outrageous money on coloured sounding stuff
if an amp sounds noticeably different than another one there’s probably a metric you can measure to assume why it does
I prefer the idea of the amp and source being relatively neutral then changing headphones/speakers to suit taste/room
like some people enjoy the sound from the single ended output on the magnius even though it measures like absolute ass
you can find differences
Whats the best sounding headphones ever ignoring price
i guess they like the crazy high distortion
but you cannot link those differences generally
i mean yeah that's fair
but your general distortion is usually not the sort of distortion you want
though there are amps that intentionally do that which sound nice
back on the measuring why something sounds different
i think in the abyss 1266 review by amir he notes that the crazy spikes in group delay in the treble might give it a more spacious sound
i think it was group delay anyway
i’ll have to find it
we might be able to figure out exactly why things sound different as measurement rigs improve
humans don't find neutral stimulating
says who
this is objective knowledge
Correct
there is actual research on this michael
i prefer neutral mids with neutral ear gain
you don't live in a perfectly acoustic world
But there is also people who do prefer neutral
everything you hear in your life is distorted by something else
i don’t like lower treble scoops
neutral sound does not mentally stimulate you
you cannot link perfect sound to emotions
well yeah but the music isn’t neutral
because you don't hear perfect sound normally
Exactly that
it's fairly neutral compared to real life
done in acoustically treated rooms
made to remove imperfections
this is of course not the case for all music
But there are people who will still choose a product which measures mostly neutrally
but overall compared to real life, music is a lot more perfect
id rather use neutral headphones and let the person making the track decide how dynamic it is
ive yet to see what but ill take your word for it
i mean i did that
that wouldn't happen
i bought sundara because it was the cheapest neutral headphone with a suspension strap and big earpads
because mixing headphones aren't neutral
I mean
sundara is bright imo
objectively so
And there you go, someone who has done just what I said / or tried to
it has a few treble peaks that seem kinda random based on luck of the draw
but it’s mostly neutral with the 2020 earpads
it has lots of decay in the highs
it gets particularly sibilant
the better you power it
which is why people hate it including me
sibilance is frequency response dependent
it isn't
distortion and decay also affects it
sundara has it
even amir's measurements show so
amir’s measurements show that his sundara had a peak in the treble at 6k
and some distortion at 6k that came along with it
which should also have decay or distortion
but if you use the peak filter he put on it mostly goes away
i mean yeah
if you’re worried about treble distortion never buy an abyss headphone
but you lose out on that part of the fr spectrum
i mean it was peaked above reference anyway
What headphones does he have
no clue
Hehe
my dekoni sheepskin earpads are in the mailbox at home man i wanted to try them out
I’d planned to put the hifi on today but family drama stuff has meant no music, again, today
we’re in the same boat
can’t wait to replace my iemagni
noise floor is crazy with low impedance planars
my magnius modius stack should come tuesday
In my case if it isn’t the dogs making a racket, it’s the (adult) kid being a prat
Hence my appreciation for the ancs lol
Home alone tomorrow for a few hours so I’ll be able to play music then thankfully
anc gives me a headache but that’s valid
gotta do what you gotta do
damn he got the copium speakers
Are they utopias?
Sopra no 3s
Yep!
The closest I’ll ever get to that during this stage of my life is the Yamaha ns1000m lol
In case you were remotely interested
Thanks - I wish I used the stereo stuff more than I do
I’m going to be building kattkistas out of corian once my friend has time to get the cnc machine running
But I am actually happy with what I have here anyway
I have had the drivers and crossover components ready for about 5 years 😂 just laziness

“CAOW1” is the other name for the design: http://teribil-audio.com/2018/06/caow1-speakers/
You can see my friends previous diy build of his “ultimate jazz speaker” elsewhere on his site there

Hello! So I've been using FxSound for a bit and I like it for music and movies, but I have to turn it off for LoL as it seems to be using up too many resources for my little office computer and I start dropping to 45fps (from 60fps) which I feel is more like 30fps.. Is there something else I should look into?
I was using Equalizer APO before but FxSound got me with the easy audio device switch and simple off and on. The instant difference in audio too, but that might just be preset differences and probably overblown boosts that FxSound probably comes default with.
when watching series I usually put the volume of the mp4 on 130%
am I the only one who does this
it usually doesn't clip
happened on only a few shows to me
i try not to use digital volume control

@molten lotus
🤣🤣🤣
Is there any way to increase this?
Does anyone here have experience with neckband speakers?
Can't you just move the slider?
It won't let me
Yeah, if that's your actual DAC/amp, there should be a hardware knob on it to adjust the level, and you wouldn't want to change it in software
Don't
hey im thinking to buy a USB mic for my setup (not getting XLR cuz i needa get an audio interface or mixer idk much abt those stuff) i was wondering which one i should get, blue yeti x or hyperx quadcast S, I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me which one is better or which other USB mic is best.
both of those are really bad and outdated
between the two quadcast is better but there are plenty of better options like mpm1000u, fifine 669 or razer seiren mini which sound better for cheaper
do they really sound better though?
oh what
pc38x headset mic sounds straight up leagues better than the yeti
there is a guy deconstructing yeti on youtube and sourcing components
the components of yeti cost like 9$ in total on aliexpress lol
the yeti x reviews on youtube dont seem that bad tho
you can just listen to voice demos if you want on youtube and compare them
affiliates/sponsors
if they don't say the yeti is bad then they must really not know about that field
or are sellouts
ohh
is the seiren v2 pro good then?
💀
it's pretty funny
it uses a plastic mesh instead of a metal one so the static is unbearable
you can just look up voice tests on youtube
compare mics for yourself
yeahh i saw blue yeti voice tests
and it doesnt rlly sound bad
it may not but the others are noticeably better
compare it to other options and it will sound obviously worse
just listen to demos and decide for yourself
alright:)
I have the marantz mpm1000 usb mic and it’s fine
It’s in an arm I had from a cheap xlr outfit I got rid of a couple years ago
mpm1000u is pretty good for a usb mic
Test?
what?
Test microfon
who
Microphone buget
I don't think I understand
mpm1000u is pretty decent?
Does anyone know a solid upgrade from the Q acoustic 3030i ?
