Just tell me- will a card do optical surround
I’m not doing USB
That’s a whole mess
why
for like 60usd used you have a reciever with hdmi
I have soaked up the bandwidth for one
what
I have soaked up the bandwidth for one
what does that mean
you don't have usb ports you mean?
I have ports. No bandwidth.
what are you using your bandwidth for
like
I am fairly certain you should have a 300kb/s bandwidth under any circumstances lol
It literally gave me an error saying not enough bandwidth, and everything glitched
the fuck
¯_(ツ)_/¯
usb ports should be bandwidth per port not per controller?
All used anyways
apparently not
use the front usb port
problem solved
different usb controller
it's per controller the bandwith but get a usb card with a few controllers they aren't expensive
we gave you the answers
pci-e usb card with usb to optical
buying a receiver costs 50$
you'd rather spend it on a sound card
idk what we can do
your current one should also
Doesn’t it have its own audio chip
yes but it’s still just optical
optical or coax is the way to go
And how would I use coax from the pc
getting a usb controller it seems
coax more like lameax
lol
it’s… ok
you could get a usb controller, get more usb ports
buy a usb to coax/optical converter
what are you using to test if surround works?
and still have money left over
if what you’re listening to is stereo it won’t be surround
Too many issues
get a usb controller dude
Games movies things like that
not our fault your shit is left from 1995
2003 :)
that makes it a lot better glad we established that
Good
impressive
It’s a standard board, just not high end
I hate usb drivers and dropouts and all that
USB is unreliable
wow i cant believe tech from 2003 doesn't work with current technology
how is this possible!!!?
a pci-e card with renesas is a different controller and a good one
My motherboard is a year old
usb controller
What about it
The controller doesn’t mean anything if the drivers and board aren’t good with it
great idea
contrary to what multiple people in the chat has been saying
you should definitely buy a sound card
have a good one
Wasn’t looking for an excuse to buy something
Just looking for answers
Because I don’t know
you don't like the answers, we can't help you
Of course I sound like an idiot, I have no education on this stuff
your board has surround even...
All you say is usb usb usb
with 3.5mm even
What, other than USB, is there that I could use
if it's 1 year old it has software surround compatibility
even if you get a sound card if you can't configure the optical to output 5.1 then it's useless
it wont be any different than now
either get a different receiver with hdmi in or troubleshoot the existing optical port
the yellow and black ports are surround ones
what is your motherboard
Trying to avoid using a ton of cables
bro
Asus B550F
Optical
your motherboard also has optical mate
with a sound card it's the same problem
and it does support surround
But the board won’t do surround optical
it will
you either configured it wrong or it needs troubleshooting
it is surround compatible
the motherboard has surround outputs on it's back
Ok so I use those with the direct in?
the optical on your mobo supports surround your reciever is set up wrong or can't do surround over optical try the other optical port on the reciever if not config/hardware problem
it's probably a settings problem on the pc not the receiver
Alright so how would I configure the optical to do surround
Ok
I don't like surround
read the manual of the reciever is one step to do
So why would you try to answer on what’s best with surround….?
because I don't like or use it does not mean I don't know of it
Alright, if I were to get the card and use the rca and direct in, would it help quality at all over the base sound included on the board
same quality as a modern motherboard so yeah
Alright
hmm guys, I got cheap earbuds, and when I'm using it in youtube, the sound is great, but if I use youtube music app, the sound is horrible
wait why? is it rly $50 or more or is it $100 or more? u expect me to buy from a reputable brand
can you even find noise cancelling that works for 50$
without destroying the audio
and i mean actually cancelling noise
i dont think you can get comfortable noise cancelling headphones for $50
and not just making it sound weird
good noise cancelling is available at 150$~
with bose and akg
maybe earbuds
i don't know any earbuds cheaper than that which has noise cancelling
or do you mean isolation
moondrop nekocakes have noise canceling and are cheap but earbuds so yeah
i didn't know nekocakes had noise cancelling
does it actually work
or does it just have it
Tackle your day one song at a time with the JBL Tune 130NC TWS. True wireless earbuds give you 40 hours of exceptional JBL Pure Bass Sound, while the ergonomic and water-resistant design gives you all-day comfort in any weather. Connect calls simply and seamlessly with 4 mics that cancel out ambi...
these look decent for $50
define actual noise cancelling. wdym without destroying audio?
it works for bus driving noise the nekocakes as i use them for transit as cheap pair
noise cancelling isn't just a value between 0 and 1
there are degrees to it
im not an airbuds or earbuds tyope of guy
cheap noise cancelling is like
theyre not comfortable for me
i hate earbuds in my ears
thats why i prefer over ear
youre gonna have to save up money for a bit longer then
Sony wh are good
yeah you can't find anything you mentioned for 50$
bluetooth headphones are all pretty crappy under $100
Good luck getting them cheap though
jbl tune 710 is like the cheapest bt headphone id recommend
and i don't even know if it has anc
is it cuz wireless/bluetooth is well not new ish but like more premium?
You get what you pay for
we don't give a shit about items being premium
in the nicest way possible the budget you have is quite low
we like good sounding and useful items
and im not saying i trust amazon reviews but im also not not saying i trust them either
You don’t get comfort/sound quality/connectivity and good boise cancelling in cheap packages
products exist down there but theyre low quality and not worth buying
Pre owned will make them more accessible
you can try getting a second hand akg n700nc
from where
a second hand retailer?
ebay?
wait samsung owns akg
lol
i never knew that lol
it was a purchase for the best
contrary to what some may think
My wh1000xm3 (can’t remember the model conpletely reliably) we’re £70 off eBay with one side of the adjustable band being glued permanently in one position because they previous fell apart
ahem dankpod fans
also is thre one with th comfrort headband cusion on top of headband
xm3 in ear or over ear
the over ear i don't recommend
in ear is fine
?
dankpod
Over ear
avoid that
I have the in ear also
n700nc m2 is around the same price, a lot better overall
except for anc maybe I didn't compare that
Wf/wh are both good but the wh are better in comfort/sound quality/nc
be carefull with used wireless headpgones tho as the battery has wear as the plug
true
and i dont have the audio headphone jack adapeter for ligntnign usb for my iphone 14 pro
i jusrt atn deciecnet ove rwear ehadophoens foer mt laptop adn and pohoen for wirelesss/bleutotohs
are you alright
I see
Sony wh / wf all are good but preferences of sound signature/comfort will come into play
Save longer
dont text and drive kids
i don't think he is alive anymore
this is so weird... only app with bad sound quality here is youtube music, amazon and spotify are normal
what do you mean
hello grey
status update on my speakers
after spending 1k on speaker stuff
I am gonna sell them
💀
lol
my room is too small
did you room eq them
I did everything
treatment included i presume
room correction with a calibrated mic
perfect triangle
I put thick pillows on the wall where the first reflection point is
my room is just too small
they are nearfields as well
unfortunately the imaging on the speakers is a smeary mess
yeah if those didn't work out not much will
my headphones are fine
i mean you had xs last time we spoke
I still do
that covers most fonts lol
I am now using zen can instead of iha-6
why
iha-6 smooths everything out
hmm
you were complaining how people can use the xs with zen can instead of iha6 before
did you have a change of heart
i mean
if you want default sound then go get a topping d10 or something
the entire point of hifi is to change the sound in a pleasing way
I did the maths, as long as your amp doesn't clip and it gets your headphone loud enough all that extra power that it has doesn't matter
headroom doesn't matter
your amplifier doesn't constantly eat 1mW stable grey
your music peaks
iha6 has too much power sure
what matters is how the thd+n performs at around 110dB for your headphones at their impedance
we normal people call the 90-110dB range headroom
what fucking headroom do you need at 110dB lmao
oh I thought you meant headroom for future headphones
nah
anyways if you want neutral audio unironically get topping
but you will find that it sounds bad
doesn't say anything about the thd+n at 6w
if your amp can supply enough current then why do people say planars sound better with more current
the virgin tube amp “coloration” user fears the gigachad measurement reading topping fan
they mean enough current by more current
there are a few aspects that confuse me
like
some amps do current more voltage less, some do it the other way around
some work with planars better, some don't
golden made a video about it if you want
I watched it
I didn't know that the total wattage required stayed the same regardless of the impedance of a headphone
for example 250 and 600 ohm dt880 require the same amount of wattage if they have the same sensitivity
for the same loudness
worry about how you’re currently bitchless instead of the current your amp delivers
wouldn't be playing league if I was worried
josh
lol
show yourself
how about getting measurements for some bitches instead of topping @unique wind
impedance determines how much wattage can be delivered by your amp
sensitivity determines how much wattage is needed
impedance determines how much wattage can be delivered by your amp
impedance determines how much voltage your amp needs to deliver
aren't both of those statement correct
my statement is an oversimplification
I find it confusing
you’re “ACSHUALLY”ing me right now
you probably do know more than me tho as soon as u start talking about voltage with amps i’m lost
when i see sensitivity measured in voltage for a headphone i shutter
get real
And having a well built amp that is able to deliver more power also just happens to sound better because it's not powered off of USB and doesn't use 15 cent op amps at every stage
Guys
What if its all placebo
And having a well built amp that is able to deliver the right amount of power also just happens to sound like anything else because USB power is clean and 15 cent op amps measure up to spec at every stage.
no
Who's this nils guy
real
also
guys what if nature caused a lifeform that shares a common ancestor with apes to accidentally gain consciousness so that 350,000 years later it could argue about electronic amplification on discord
thatd be wild
best i can do is prob the Sony WH-CH710N at $150 at lowst price
if I found the dt990 pro treble too piercing, should I go for an hd560s or hd6xx?
i think the 560s is a better headphone to use to determine what kind of tuning you like
because it's exceptionally neutral and it's affordable
Scream at each other from thousands of kilometers away from each other about how angry they are that someone has a different opinion*
op amp user detected opinion invalidated
Who?
you
I don’t even know what the different kinds of amps are, lel
Other than tube and not tube
shaking my shaking my head my head shaking my head
Not the part of audio I care about anyway
I mean, for quite a lot I like ksc75 more than hd6x0
Kinda sad
Just not for what I usually listen to
Tho he6 and sus do have flat bass
ideal conpin frequency response
Nah, let me do true ideal fr
that's the sundara FR
Just sundara itself is incapable of not sounding lifeless
Sounds more dead than ksc75
My mom wants to marry you
the knife throwing one?
Yes
awesome
Ok
analog perlin noise
Mounted my Speakers, now to wait for my amp. Dont mind the cables, raceways will be installed ^^
you mounted them on the wall?
Ya
bruh
Why
💀
speakers are the #1 thing in a setup you want to keep away from the wall
Nah
there is this thing called inverse phase
Asked audio enigneers at work, they said its not a Problem
audio engineers are professionals at recording
not at hifi
the audio engineers I know speak about how great their cables are
Lmao
except audbol he is cool
But tbh why would it be bad
Yeah
the thing vibrates it makes sound
the thing is
audio is a spherical form of energy
it doesn't just go forward
I know
and the back of the speaker also vibrates
the driver which vibrates to make audio also moves in the opposite direction
creating inverse phase
when you join normal phase at the front of the speaker and the inverse phase, they cancel each other out
the back of your speaker also has audio coming out of it
and that audio will go to the wall
reflect off of it
echo in your room and come back to you
this will affect, imaging, soundstage, layering, slam and all sorts of terms you can use to describe clarity
Just today @steel escarp decided to sell his 1000$ speaker setup because his room was too small to prevent these reflections
that it made his audio worse than his 500$ headphones
which is a big deal because speakers generally far outperform headphones in price/performance given you have a half decent room
Speakers need a big room
they don't need a big one but you either need to set them up very carefully
or treat your room very well
Or a room with good treatment
yeh
Yeah wanted to mount acoustic panels in here
I don't kid when I say 60% of speaker performance is the room
the foam ones don't work out unfortunately
and you need acoustic plates at the back of the speakers mostly
You have to get rock wool
speaker treatment acoustic panels are like wooden frames filled with rock wool and covered in cloth
you can craft them in a household environment given you have a saw, hammer and some nails but they are a bit bulky
and diy is going to save you a lot of money with speaker acoustic panels
Ah those yeah made some at Work
Tbh there 150€ 150w 4ohm speakers, anything better than my old z200
they are actives right?
Passive
ah
Thats why i need a amp
Max 150w per speaker
ah
Are there any tut on how to Sound treat a room?
the simplest thing you can do is putting panels behind the speakers
thicker the better
Take care of primarily the first reflection point
This video shows you where to place acoustic panels for improving the sound in any room or environment once you have found the optimal listening position. This is a critical step in treating your room acoustically and is typically followed by treating the ceiling and corners, depending on what the room may need. The reason to treat your first re...
Man, I cannot comprehend how ribbons have supposedly better imaging while worse off axis performance than dome tweeters
The gain circuitry in my speakers is wack tho
It's likely what is causing static hiss
Well time to go to Baumarkt and get some things lol
Lol
Anyway a question - my amp doesnt have a sub out. Will that Work? PC -> Audio Interface -> Samson C-Control -> Sub and AMP
you don't need something as exaggerated as a samson c control tf
Got it for free lol
it should i think
How are the 880 Pros 250ohm? Have 10% Off for the whole Beyerdynamic store
they are pretty decent
What bout a mic, there are so many Options, wanted something white
re-20
Lol 600€
Thought bout tc-helicon mic or lewitt 240 pro
I think the RE-20 looks ugly as hell but also very, very nice at the same time lol
Aston origin is sexiest imo
This looks like a vacuum filter
not wrong
lewitt is overpriced
performs worse than a behringer c1 in all fronts all people I know who own it got it solely for the looks
How would y'all rank the UMC22 as an interface?
I already have one, just kinda wondering if it can handle any form of decent microphone
I mean. It's an entry level interface
It's gonna set the bar for the minimum requirements.
Good mic for talking in discord? Relatively cheap please, also maybe headphones. My current set is Astro a40
i face an error when i plug my earphone my pc not using my earphone mic it only use its own mic reminder: {my laptop as 3.5 mm jack} any idea?
do you have realtek audio console?
Where'd you steal that from? Reddit? We all know that's not actual your gear.
Damn some 580
mmmm M2
Not bad, it has pretty weak preamps but that shouldn't matter with most condensers
It's entry level at the end of the day
Hey guys, can you suggest me a microphone for streaming/interviewing that picks up voice accurately? Up to 100$
define accurately
some audio gear
What would be your mic recommendation for someone with a deep voice?
Well, we you watch a streamer you can't tell if the voice is in your room or on the screen. That kind of accuracy
Any half decent mic should establish that
Mics performance is less about the mic itself and more about your ability to use it
Given it isn't something like a headset mic
anyone awake in here? i need some help
im using a goxlr with 2 pc's
ones connected via usb the other via optical, the one that's optical is giving me audio through the goxlr, but its, crackly in certain places of the audio
like bass, high notes, etc
its not the cable, i just swapped it for a different one, same issue, its not my goxlr cause i dont have the issue on my main pc thats connected via usb, an its not my headphones cause i plugged them into the front panel header, and the audio was fine
idk whats goin on or how to fix it, my best guess is interference on the optical cable, but im unsure
I use it with an xm8500, pretty nice overall
I didn't know interference was possible for optical
you might be talking about optical jitter
yeah
what i do
where?
in that menu there is the option to reconfigure that combo 3.5mm jack
if you set it to headset, it will now decoding the line in mic signal as well
i still can't find
what does your audio console look like?
how do i check my consol
... its an app?
i found mine in the start menu
or you could search for realtek audio console in the search bar
if you have one on the computer, it would show up
You get it from the microsoft store if it's not already installed
this one?
yea\
is LDAC on the sony WH-xm5s wasted on Spotify? or should I get a HIFI steaming service
i dont think you can even hear the differences between spotify high and lossless tbh
But there is a difference between LDAC and AAC?
would be surprised when 99% isn't high quality music anyway
depends on the device
AAC can be tuned for power saving or quality
when it's tuned for quality (ie Apple) it's very good
but on most Androids its very hit or miss
I have a pixel 7 and need a good pair of headphones/ earbuds for college work and working out
I believe so. The drivers on the WHXM5 are kinda bad
Everything I see points toward xm5 but I feel that they are wasted on Spotify with LDAC and was wondering if Tidal is a good option
they're also tuned so bass heavy that any amount of detail that the driver could have just gets blown out
I'm a fan of the galaxy buds +
I was planning on tuning a little to fix the bass
Won't fix the physical design part of the tuning
I have a pair of buds 2 and they have been the definition of hell 2 use
really long battery life + the wings work well for my ears
buds 2 are a lil more hit or miss because of the more round design
Dare I say buds + are a little more "flat" so they fit more like normal iems
buds 2/pro are actually little pebbles
Mine have a issue where the left bud wont work for months at time even after exchanging the first pair for another with the same issue
I've never encountered that before...
anyways I just got a pair of Tangzu Wan'er
just bc it was cheap
they nailed my tuning prefrence
dope
wait do you have them in hand already?
or are you assuming you’ll like them based on frequency response measurements
i’ve been wanting to find someone who owns them to hear a first hand impression
They aren't
Not at all
Also avoid the xm5
I used them for like an hour
Their ANC is absolutely incredible
But the sound is just
Shit
spotify caps at 320kbps so yeah ldac is pointless for that
You aren't going to benefit from lossless in 99% of the cases anyways
Xm5 is literally not responsive enough to benefit from it either
if they didn't overdamped the hell out of the drivers and turned the sound into a muddy v shaped mess it would have been a solid headphone
unfortunate
The thing is im kinda a monkey for sound quality I wont notice any difference
i think there are built in eq profiles that make it decent
maximum copium overdose
moments ago you were asking about ldac
nevermind i think that’s the xm4
if you don't think you will notice a difference then go use 50$ in ears
they are pretty bad michael
I was exaggerating but I want good anc and good sound quality to the point where I wont notice
it seems like the xm4 is just straight up better than the 5
akg n700nc m2
I looked to see if crinacle did something about the xm5 but I dont think he did
they are both bad enough for me to not consider them as options honestly
the bass is just messed up
wait i forgot there’s a wf and wh
lol
no
sennheiser closed backs are terrible
i would avoid anything sennheiser except for like 3 headphones
we argue about headphones daily here
560s, 600/650/660/6xx, and hd800
believe me you aren't going to find some unknown godly headphone that surpasses n700nc m2 by googling random search terms
from what i know everything else is bad
I don't even like 4/6 headphones you mentioned
but yeah
those are worth buying compared to everything else
except hd660
that's a downgrade from all else
i assumed it’d be really similar to the other 600 lineup
and take every bad property of planar headphones
and apply it to a dynamic headphone
that is what hd660 is
@dry stratus perfect headphone for you
it emphasizes your favorite frequency band
2khz
pain
sounds like a tin can probs still also
even in the new one
660 isn't 6x0 honestly
just an hd700 dumpster fire tuned close enough to one but sounds metallic af
Have the same question
Is 60-18000Hz enough for that or 20-20000 would be better?
i would use something that covers the full human frequency range and if it’s too boomy then adjust distance to the mic or use a high pass filter
what mic r u looking at that only goes down to 60hz
sounds like a lav or headset mic
FIFINE A6T
i would go with the fifine 669 or 683 instead
What tech do I need to pair with the HD600s? I'm not looking to drive the volume at hearing loss levels, like Reddit seems to want me to do.
the momentum 4 are alright honestly
not worth it
but they're alright ig
i mean
that is a fair statement
they aren't terrible
but like, better options available
entirely thanks to not having horribly boosted anything tho..
mpm1000u
its better than most fifines
but you are going to have a lot of background noise with either mics
and you will likely degrade audio quality if you try to patch it with background noise removal programs
those numbers are a bit meaningless given they don't tell you at which level the items respond to 60 or 20hz
for both sound, anc and price
quiet comfort is better
for sound and price, n700nc(m2) is
sennheiser: "we saw focal bathys, let us make an HD820 wireless"
how would it sound
incorrect statement
sennheiser would say
"we saw focal bathys, let us make an HD820 wireless and make it even further unusable"
HD820 vs HD700, which would you rather listen to?
i could mod hd820 back into hd800
no mods allowed
ive never heard about the hd700 to the point where it worries me
i assume its on a scale of being so bad people don't even want to say its bad
HD700 basically just DT990 treble but worse
and metallic (HD660s uses HD700 driver)
HD820 best fr
how bout
this is all you need for a clean audio signal, but i don’t know if it has enough power for the 600
@lean grove or @molten lotus would know better
interesting given reddit doesn't believe in amplifiers more expensive than 50$
but if they did tell you that then they said correctly
you can use many headphones with most motherboards but there is a difference between a headphone working alright and working at full potential
Do you need an amplifier? How much power do you really need? And what misconceptions exist about hard to drive headphones in general?
Headphone Power Calculator: https://headphones.com/pages/headphones-power-calculator
Benchmark 'Think dB not percent': https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/interpreting-thd-measurements-think-db-no...
For the hd600, pretty much anything will be usable.
@lean grove @molten lotus Awesome, thank you both! I'll have to check it out.
technically, should ping Goldensound aswell
Yeah ping mods. They love that. Especially when you thank them for their work in making useful content.
I'm very new to all of this, does that suffice as a DAC? Or do I still need an external DAC in addition to a cheap amp to drive the headphones?
the dongle is the dac yes
and it has a basic amplifier inside too
i know it seems stupid because it’s an apple dongle but it’s actually a solid DAC
Yeah, it's probably better than the braided ones I ordered off of Amazon, I was just worried about the quality, since all the Apple cables I have fall apart quite quickly...unfortunately, it's getting plugged into a keyboard with a 3.5mm or 1.4" (I think) jack for daily use
Apple dongle is not durable. If you look up cx31993 dongle you'll find lots of more durable (and a bit more expensive) alternatives.
And when I say not durable, it'll survive being in one place for months. But it won't survive a pocket.
Great, thank you!
just got my hd560s
can confirm apple dongles won’t survive pockets
neither will googles branded one
i don’t think almost any dongle will
Have fun with them, give your brain a bit of time to adjust to them
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Y7YXHSB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image? This is the garbage that I use now
When I'm using my phone, that is
only had for like 15mins, so far, not as ear piercing as the dt990 pro in treble, but def not as "intimate" as my old Razer Naris but also to be expected because its open back with less bass
To be fair, I'm not using lossless audio files yet. I'm not sure where to get those, as most of the artists I listen to don't have bandcamp or anything like that, they're way too old
So my current dongle probably doesn't make a hoot of difference
eh mp3 is fine
or spotify max quality etc
the gear you’re using matters more than the difference between 320kbps and 1411kbps
Ah, I've been believing another myth then...the reason why I didn't buy the HD600s in the first place was because I commonly see it said that they were pointless without FLAC files
Hence the M50x hanging off of my keyboard right now...
flac is better but if you like your headphones you’ll like them just as much with streaming quality music
I was woefully uninformed
its pointless to use flacs with most dynamics
Nobody specific, it was just the general sentiment I found as I researched across the r/headphones and r/headphoneadvice pages, but it could have been old posts that became popular because of...how reddit makes things popular
i listen to music on youtube a lot because the videos improve the experience
knowing full well it’s only 192kbps at best
that one place where people don't believe gear over 100$ exists
whats the best streaming platform that has loseless audio?
qobuz probably
tidal probably
you don’t have to buy their mqa plan
it's forced
when golden tested it a year back the hifi master options also provided mqa
for some tracks this wasn't true but
you get the idea
eh even if their proprietary “lossless” is 800-1000kbps instead of 1411kbps it’ll still be close enough for anyone to not care and they have a large library
Logitech has the best streaming service
FACT!!!!
i think you can get lossless with a lot of platforms
logitech transporter is a hardware streamer
it's point was directly wireless streaming i think
lossless
yeah but cool box
Holy streamer red supports it
I'll probably stick with Spotify high quality for most things, as I don't believe I could get wife/kids to switch platforms, even with playlist copiers, etc. But maybe for the stuff I really really like, I'll try to find lossless
valid i love spotify
try out lossless vs lossy in an abx test
you wont be able to tell them apart
quality lossy and lossless is a lot closer to one another in human hearing levels than you think
You can also run LMS on literally anything with an electronic signal
so the box is kinda not needed anymore
i like boxes
the answer to the audiophile question
with knobs
me too
and glowy tubes and meters
id pay for that
box is like 500+ dollars
its also a dac
probably a really shit one
from what I heard it's actually very decent
by the people who own it
though nothing outstanding
people who own topping dacs seem to like them a lot
i don't like people who own topping dacs
Is there a specific website you recommend purchasing dacs and amps from besides Amazon? I noticed a lot of the "recommended" ones are not even available on there
If you are going to shit on topping at least do it right, the a90d isn't opamp based
what was recommended to you
he hadn't written a90d when i was typing the message
a90d unironically freakishly good amp
a90d unironically sounds the same as all the other topping amps
amir lives rent free in ur head
Fiio Q1, JDS Atom Stack was another, Fulla 2 was another
be glad those aren't on amazon
jesus fuck who recommended those
who the fuck recommends a fulla 2
reddit and mainstream youtubers
aftereffects of reddit overexposure
reddit audio community is outdated
by like 10 years
at some point they were recommending he400i and sundaras literally everywhere
None of that shit was good 10 years ago either
they went back to 6xx
Oof
I may just be a gamer headset guy for that bass, lack of treble and intimate closed back
buy audeze maxwell
that statement isn't meaningful
based gamer moment
bass lack of treble
You are almost certainly going to make fun of me.
it is an actual headphone power calculator
but the compatibility chart is an absolute meme
its entirely meaningless
So focus on the yellow box with the measurements on the side, and then apply it to my own research of dac/amps on Amazon?
Yeah, that's actually how I stumbled on this calculator
also instead of posting like random dacs and amps you find on reddit why don't you just ask us for advice
I was looking for theirs and found this one with the "handy" recommendations
lol
i mean reddit is an echo chamber incapable of processing foreign information so avoid that
and googling good headphones isn't a good result
saw a reddit comment about EQing the hifiman sundaras, linked to some list of presets that gave me this pdf https://www.dropbox.com/s/o3fza1a4kmmy4vr/Hifiman Sundara (2020 revised earpads).pdf?dl=0
how do I put that
it just sends you to 10 different monetized sites
@weak otter
That was where I ended up first, which led me to changing the Google search to say "reddit" or "head-fi" at the end, which probably also wasn't a great call
headfi is like
It's just how I've grown used to doing research on other topics
full of boomers
reddit is an echo chamber
just hunt around in discord if you want actual diversity in people's opinions regarding subjects
generally the better place to look for advice
I didn't think to try BingChat yet, but you're right, I'll find a couple of options myself doing the math and throw them in here, unless you have specific recommendations
I assume band 1 is just the one most to the left?
band 1-10 doesn't mean anything
I appreciated Michael's apple dongle recommendation, but he was right, it looks like it can't quite power HD600s
they are just names
I still don't quite get how to put it into the ui
zen air dac is a decent cheap dac/amp
you should google parametric equalizer tutorial or something and watch a video on it
alr thx
Awesome, thank you
I'll look into that one
an apple dongle can power hd600 fine
I can get HD600 hearing damage loud with my apple dongle
In fairness, the original question was so I can connect it to my keyboard, which does not have a USB-C port
The apple dongle was suggested for whenever I happen to be listening with my Pixel
what does your keyboard have
3.5mm or 1/4", I believe
oh so it has a built in dac
not a good idea
cringe
since android halves the voltage of apple dongle
Wouldn't it have to have a built in dac?
that was the mistake
dongles like the cx31993 are needed for full power
my bad
half power approximately
yeah that's what I said
No
That's why I'm looking for a dac/amp combo though, so that I don't have to use the built in dac. Is there something wrong with built in dacs though?
No, nothing is wrong with a dac/amp combo like the apple usb-c dongle
Referring to the one in my keyboard now
yea the only problem is the apple dongle specifically does some janky stuff that prevents it from outputting full power on android
its the same thing
oh that one just probably sucks
No it doesn't
look fam
It's not like a complex issue
I am pretty sure carmon is right about this
Apple dongle has hardware volume control
huh
nope
no?
Android does not allow you to control the hardware volume of evices
incorrect
The apple dongle is set to 60%
which is why when you use UAPP you can get the volume at max
oh yes
your explanation is backwards
just use paid software
to bypass android system limits
that only works with the said software
android limits the volume over usb to 100db
genius thanks
the apple dongle misreports the volume that it outputs
uapp allows you to ignore that misreporting
Android has no fucking clue how much volume a device outputs
correct
android sux
thats why when apple reports it, it follows its instructions instead of thinking about it for a nanosecond
I can plug in a black label and get my IEMs at speaker volumes no problem
how do you plug in whiskey to iems
yep because your black label doesnt report its volume lmao
regardless, the apple dongle in android is set to 60%
in hardware volume control
it's not a complex issue
does uapp even allow for non local file playback?
the dongle doesnt have any non digital gain btw
is it system wide
nope
very cool
My soekris is also all digital gain
regardless, tldr = dont get the apple dongle, there are many identical sound better build solutions, the most consistent option is the cx31993
I guess if you want to pay more for slow shipping on a dongle that's gonna sound the same go for it
for power that you don't need
🤷 its on amazon
and the apple dongle is extremely fragile
the cx dongle is significantly less
and you are only paying $2 more
Me when I'm a gorilla and accidentally destroy my stuff
and getting a usb adapter included in the box
what is even the argument here right now
me when i have the chutzpa to put my phone in my pocket with my iems attached
To not over complicate dongles
you can pay 2$ for an item more durable, doesn't suffer from android volume limits and comes with a usb c to a adapter
that does the same thing
or not
like
what are you trying to defend
the value of 2$ for venezuelan children?
More just not giving wrong information for no reason
he wasn't wrong though
you just bypass system limits
and are limited to one software with local file support only
This is what I was referring to
In just giving wrong information
volume itself is logarithmic as perceived by humans
so volume sliders should be equally logarithmic
I love invalidating 50% of the fucking volume bar because i am a dumb engineering student who doesn't understand headphones
mfw putting the volume from 20 to 50% changes the volume by 5dB
:OOO
peak programming
just use the top 20% of the volume slider and have it range between 40dB in the last 4 segments
i think this is what the users need
meh its more so that you can have 1 volume bar shared between all sorts of different audio devices
normal people dont actually care that much about the exact volume and music tends to vary in perceived volume between tracks and different programs anyways
Actually does anyone here have a list on non-shit amp/dac combos and/or stacks because, though the zen stack is neat and all I want to know my options (up to about £200-250 ig)
i don't think there is much else for that much
and zen is like, above your budget too pretty sure
schiit stack is the only other thing I can think of
and modi 3+ is a lot worse than zen dac
I say this as a modi 3+ owner
Budget is slightly flexible 🙃
There's a few Topping things I can find on ebay, and some JDS labs stuff too
Ah fair
they release new stuff 🤷
cheap?
it costed as much as a schiit stack
and was worse
so outdated is what i'd call it
by outdated I don't mean inherently bad but I have yet to see a jdslab item that is better to buy than an already existing item
That one Schiit reseller in the UK is neat and all but the prices are like
£135 for a Magni 3, £165 for a Modi 3
that modi price is a scam
yea these us brands arent a good idea in uk

nah I'll just keep a lookout for zen air stack or whatever
There is an asgard 2 on ebay for £200 but no DAC lol
was asgard 2 the bad one
there is one asgard that was terrible but i forgot whether it was asgard 2 or 1
asgard 3 is fine
I think it was the original that had the reputation of garbo
There is an asgard 3 with multibit dac for £375 but that's more of a waiting until next pay day sorta deal
Can someone recommend a good mic for talking in discord? Relatively cheap please, also maybe some decent headphones. My current set is Astro a40
what dont you like about the a40s
They’re great, nothing I don’t like, I just would like second pair of headphones
HyperX Cloud 2 would probably solve the headphones-sound-bad part, but I'm unsure about any mic reccs
K361 lol
And a mic would be nice to have
Can I get a link for pricing?
A number for budget would've been nice lol
if I have 30k in my bank 140$ is cheap to me
Sub 100 I guess because I don’t have a lot of money and I’m saving for a pc
