cosmic gazelle

this is such bullshit lmao

indigo walrus
# cosmic gazelle this is such bullshit lmao

Reason #748576 I will never willingly buy an Apple or Samsung device. If I can't replace the stock software with something else without the device being permanently altered in a way that the company can try to claim my warranty is now void, I don't want it because I don't actually "own" that device despite paying for it.

low sorrel
#

well there's ways that do get around it

but they aren't very reliable

i better crack it myself

cosmic gazelle
#

@indigo walrus i know we just had the whole "don't root your phone unless you really know what you're doing" discussion, but they have a freshly updated android 16 lineage build for the galaxy s23 and that's pretty kickass value imo lol

loud depot
indigo walrus
# low sorrel what phone do you use?

Currently a Motorola Razr Ultra 50 aka Razr Plus 2024 because Motorola decided to do what Canon did in the 1990's and 2000's by having confusingly different naming schemes for the EXACT SAME HARDWARE depending on where you live. Gee, thanks. Let's just make buying things more difficult than necessary!

nocturne jacinth
#

iPhone 15 is very good still, I have it as my secondary/apple phone

low sorrel
nocturne jacinth
#

And the fact it's usb-c probably the floor going onwards for cheapest iPhone (realistically I think 14 should be the entry bc of 6gb ram)

that makes it more sus for me

cosmic gazelle
hoary hatch
#

Fold vs flip do they mean Samsung flip phones?

low sorrel
#

i rooted a pixel once

#

so fucking boring too easy

cosmic gazelle
#

on old old samsung devices you have to use this sketchy third party program to unlock the bootloader so that's kinda interesting i guess

loud depot
low sorrel
#

I don't get the point of flip phones

hoary hatch
indigo walrus
# loud depot 😂 np i also look for flip phones, would u suggest some

I'm biased to the Razr series... mostly for what I said in my prior message. Like all devices, they have software problems, but having checked out a friend's Samsung Flip series phone... yeah no, the Razr feels more polished and you can actually use the outside screen for more than widgets.

compact, old base into new technology?

indigo walrus
# hoary hatch People who are nostalgic for 2005 is why they exist

That's part of it. Another reason they exist is for people like me who spend too much time playing Pokemon Go. KEKW Running the game on the outside screen isn't perfect, but it saves about 30% battery life compared to running it on a screen twice the size when the phone is open / unflipped. I also use the outside screen to control Spotify when listening to podcasts, or when I just want to pull the phone from my pocket to check notifications.

spiral quarry
cosmic gazelle
#

kirashi what level are you

low sorrel
#

@loud depot I would rule out flip or fold phones unless you're buying new

indigo walrus
#

But yeah... Fold and Flip phones are definitely niche devices. They are not for everyone, they are much more delicate because the inner screens are NOT made of hardened glass, and they have a lot more software quirks.

#

dimms hit like 55C with 65K tREFI after like 45 mins

#

had the 5090 dumping 550W into the case the whole time so like

#

sidenote I dont think i'll ever understand Nvidias V/F curve on the 5090 or the boost algorithm

#

because like fuck do you mean I have a flat curve at 900mv and it's pulling 950mv anyway

#

and raising it 100Mhz drops the clocks 100Mhz instead

#

like wtaf

#

THIS SHIT IS LYING

merry stirrup
#

it either cannot hit those clocks at that voltage safely or youre not puttingg a proper enough load on it

turbid locust
#

I got steel nomad looping

merry stirrup

so probably the first one

turbid locust
#

I set 2500Mhz first and it does whatever it wants

merry stirrup
#

are you resetting or modifying your curve each time you change

turbid locust
#

it's just running 50mv higher than what it says it is on the curve

merry stirrup

make sure you reset each time you change your curve

like every time

you can do adjustments upward but going back down seems to not work properly

because they sucked

merry stirrup

trfc and trc is so impossibly bad on that chip i dont know why youd pick it for am4

shell void
#

i bought rev e because it was a lot cheaper than bdie at the time that i bought it

merry stirrup

which is fair

cosmic gazelle
#

i actually was so stupid that i bought the 6000 kit instead of the cheaper 6400 kit because people said 6000 was better for am5

which like, yeah, but also holy shit what a noob decision

merry stirrup
#

but if youre explicitly buying to tune i think people shouldve bought the 3600 14-14-14 vipers for like 100$ like everyone else at the time

#

like a bajillion of those kits sold

cosmic gazelle
#

im wondering if i can put the 5500 and the rx 580 in a cheap case once im done w them and sell it on for a profit

shell void

i think that kit just ran at 3200cl16 xmp for the time that i used the 10900f

merry stirrup
#

fair

#

i used bdie on the 10700 and holy balls my 10700 actually has a decent imc 💀

shell void
#

my 10900f was more-or-less unlocked, but only through a specific older branch of XTU

i could get it to boost to 4.9 allcore and undervolt it instead of being limited to 4.6 with no voltage control

merry stirrup
#

pretty decent

although 10th gen did insane all core freq

people running like 10900K 5.3+

quite awesome chips but rkl was better

yet it beat previous gen in all core quite confidently?

cosmic gazelle
#

i’m trying to set a pl1 of like 35w and a pl2 of 55w on the 4790k to make it at least somewhat efficient but i feel like there’s a world where the system shits itself moving from idle to load if there’s enough of a voltage offset

merry stirrup
#

just gotta oc

merry stirrup

it either matched it or beat it, which means single core uplift was pretty decent

cosmic gazelle
#

bros got the german on a first name basis

@topaz veldt even 2080 TI is somewhat usable for LLM. Qwen3.6-35B-A3B in UD-IQ3_XXS does ~400t/s PP, around 30t/s TG with 3700X as CPU. I guess i should really try to get something better than the 5700G as my server CPU now that i added the 1080 Ti there, it would also probably run MoE 35B model just fine for tasks i would give it through Hermes. Too bad the used CPU prices are absurd

high rain
green marsh
# high rain The vram is the biggest issue w a 2080 ti, and its not replicable at scale sadly

obviously i talk about MoE models with offloading to RAM. With right settings (with llama-fit-params) it can run usable enough. I mean 3700X+32GB RAM+2080 Ti runs Qwen3.6-35B-A3B UD-IQ3_XX quant with 200k context with mmproj features disabled, mmap disabled, q4 k/v cache at ~400t/s PP, 30t/s TG. Yes, it is a far cry from my Qwen3.6-27B in Q4 quant on a dual 5070 Ti which does around 1000t/s PP, 50t/s TG with MTP for much denser model, but it is certainly in a 'usable enough' region. Same with 1080 TI. Sadly the 5700G is really an issue with CPU offloading method, it was doing 10t/s only with 1080 Ti, while same 1080 Ti with Haswell-E CPU did 30t/s at same settings, with slower RAM even on Haswell-E (but quad channel)

i've decided i'm giving my gf the 4790k setup for the nas (which rip the ud5h but whatever), using the 2400g as my minecraft server, and using the 5500 setup as my htpc

pure garnet
cosmic gazelle
#

i have no idea what that does

pure garnet
#

normal is trfc1 only, fgr is slow as hell because it only does per bank, mixed uses a combination of both

#

mixed is the default now because normal is a security “vulnerability” because rowhammer attacks work on it

cosmic gazelle
#

i wonder if it depends on what ic you're using because micron d5 doesn't go lower than 768 rfc

#

so i would assume normal is faster

pure garnet
#

mixed is slightly faster

#

normal locks the whole stick to refresh, pb is per bank

cosmic gazelle
#

would it affect stability at all or is it just a config option

#

cuz it wouldn't hurt to test it

pure garnet
#

you have to retest since it’s 2 refresh timings

#

i don’t know micron but like 544/340 is what i ran 6400 on h24m iirc

cosmic gazelle

people were doing that when it was new

paste has always been a shitty thermal conductor between the die and ihs

south shuttle

damn 15c? that must've been a bad paste

there's a reason manufacturers almost universally use solder now and it isn't that they really don't want you to delid lol

but my 7400f and 7500f don't perform too far from each other, the temp difference is within low-mid single digits

#

although the ihs is indeed thicker which

cosmic gazelle
south shuttle
#

it means the paste doesn't add that much thermal resistance

#

when the ihs is that thick

cosmic gazelle
#

for example i replaced the stock thermal paste on my 4790k with my own and saw roughly 80c with 130w power draw, and instant spike to 100c with 170w

which would imply the paste just couldn't carry the heat fast enough

if i had used LM it would have been fine

south shuttle

yeah sounds like a bad paste
