Ah ya speeding
well not necessarily speeding
something jerry doesnt excel at
its only speeding if you have traction
also I decided I’m not buying a 5060Ti or 3090 for AI shit
twin 5090s?
I will be buying two 2080Ti 22GBs
Never break the law while breaking the law, always signal
Never commit misdemeanors while committing felonies
ennui has a new champion
Ennui only has 1 2080Ti. I inquired
I thought eunni had 4 at one point
but yeah you can get two 2080Ti 22GB from China for less than the price of 1 5070Ti
yes
macs gonna end up on nyarch with hyperland after buying up all this compute
Huh, I mean i get it kinda lol
let's hope they won't scam you, but otherwise a fine idea
I wonder if its going to be fully functional
Would be kinda neats
Some things when you add more ram get buggy
They’ve been making 22GB 2080Ti’s for awhile
hmmm
43 days is good

that’s probably enough to handle some light jellyfin transcoding
playing RDR2
Silly goose
some GPUs are arriving
Heck yeahhh, thats alotta weight xD damnnnnn
If all gpu... frig there goes the next few days of snails world
Making a super cluster/guess can be regular?
Guys
Its part of my crazy re-arch project
Why does HR think a week is 6 days
I still need like $20M worth of electricity upgrades installed
uh oh
Spring into fitness challenge: 11x 6 day weeks 💀
Has anyone ever had a good experience with HR
jesus
@green marsh eatin'
Technically idk if it's HR who is hosting this thing but like who the fuck decides a week is 6 days
Submitted for an employees termination through the application they ask us to use and then radio silence for 4 days. Nothing happened until I called and asked for an update
the goat is on sale for $180
nice
I saw that yesterday. Almost considered jumping on it.
But like… I don’t really need it
it's so cute tho
SFX 1KW PSU is pretty awesome
why get that when you could get this
far more effective at starting a fire
for 1/5 the cost
POS AIO = Piece Of Shit All In One ❤️
I already have a 1300W unit for benching (about to be put in my server), RM1000e in the daily, and a EVGA 750W unit currently in my server that I will swap to the bench.
i was gonna impulse buy a msi 750w for $55 but it went up to $95 before i did
just go to the woods for free
I mytve snagged a 2nd meg 1300w plati. Theres still a handful for 155 like new
I have no self control
Everyday I think of new PC upgrades or gadgets to get but then I remember I became a laptop baller
where? that's nuts
The weakness of my fur disgusts me
Aren't those 2-300 USD?????
Usually 350 yuss
I gotchu
@green marsh she's floundering
The MEG gaming power supply is proudly backed by a 10-year limited warranty, guaranteeing long term reliable operation. Aiming for unwavering product quality and performance stability, the MEG gaming power supply comes with 100% Japanese 105° C capacitors and solid capacitors. Organizing cables i...
Hm nice to have around as a spare
use like new for 155 is crazy
mine compacts context all the time, because 200k context fills up so fast with 2x 5070 Ti
After the first arrived they got more and had to send it
what does that look like then
it compacts every few minutes
I don't see any clear indication of it doing that
but also I am not staring at the lm studio dev logs
you only see it in claude code. once in a while it will do "compacting conversation"
ah have not seen that yet
this is qwen3.5-27B 100k
have you seen you can customize the status line w/ % of context
Mission super computer with your host snail
npx ccstatusline
Should do a log or demos
also how do you not hit context window limits with 100k context. I use same model with 200k context (Q8_0 K/V cache quantization).
🤷♂️
This is addictive
I might have to make a managerial call and move my lab box to my house rack lol
i need more memory
Hard drives sold
do you use this for software development ?
sorta
I build things in my lab without infosec oversight and annoyance
and then I bundle them up and move it to work lab
ok, then two things:
- i recommend installing https://github.com/addyosmani/agent-skills skills. Pretty much you install those skills, then start your task with
/using-agent-skills some description of what you want it to do. It automatically selects the other right commands, which then translate to specific skills, which change the behavior of the coding agent, so for example it asks you question in idea refining phase, plans out the ideas to tasks etc - if you want the coding agent to be able to do web searches (claude code connected to local model can't do that through official web search tool), then https://github.com/nickclyde/duckduckgo-mcp-server
for 2) it seems to have some ability as it prompted and did shit
it never did search anything for me, and AFAIK the web search tool is running on Anthropic servers, so unless you got a claude code sub, it won't do stuff. At least to my knowledge
thats how i feel when i see how much im using
i need 256
too close to using all of it
yeah except i’m not larping and just want more ram
Floppa is TC2's biggest larper
i just got 2*32gb of ram for $350
but its 4800 so
same
is it hynix
that must have been awesome
just read the ic’s
its just micron a die
5600mhz shit timings at 1.45v
8tb g5 drive cray
They're using a pneumatic hammer to bury fiber right outside my house, and i must say, it is not pleasant
any RAM is better than no RAM
2x512 ddr2 good for you?
i mean i use cdie in my server, also doesn’t micron reverse scale? don’t use 1.45
if i needed DDR2 and had none, sure
512MB*
i'm literally watching them bury the fiber to the junction box outside my house right now
pricing is 1 gigabit for 65usd/month for me
loser
Venture Capitalists are.... something
flarpa
Bedframes are not expensive, and making your bed more comfortable is not a bad thing.
no bedframe is a great way to get mold in your mattress
like, for realz.
idk why people try to struggle max so much
like it's not a bad thing to invest some money to have an actually comfortable life
100%
Nobody's telling you to buy frilly duvet covers and decorative pillows
But like... make your bed NOT suck, and you'll be happier every fuckin' day
but also, if you want to buy frilly duvet covers and decorative pillows, that's your prerogative
absolutely, if that's your thing, do it up.
i did no bed frame for like a week when mine broke and i liked the height so now i just have a shorter bed frame and no box spring
How dare people spend their own money how they see fit, the horror!
at the height it’s at now the dogs can jump up to sleep when they want so that’s ideal
my bed is like 34in tall
I think i bent the middle feet in mine lol. Need to replace it soon
mine's around there, too yeah
mine is about 24
Getting alittle rickity
being able to just sit on the edge of the bed comfortably is nice
i gotta change my frame like once a week dawg
nah it’s just me and your mother
weird utterly random question:
Has anyone ever heard the term "goynking" and knows what it means?
I just saw the word for the first time, and seem to be one of many people who have never heard it before
how do you even break a bed frame
apparently the i7-4940mx is the most powerful socketed laptop cpu (excluding mobile desktop bullshit) and I want to find a platform that will actually be able to power one now
ah yes, because people buy bedframes every month or two, and you can't use the one you bought 10 years ago
(Before you check: It's not on urbandictionary)
*thinks about the one on my bed that my parents bought me in 2003 *
idk im assuming it has to do with the term goy just looking at it
that would be way too logical, because internet.
yes but racism is very prevelant
I'm fully aware of that, unfortunately
UT2004 VC flashbacks
I remember LAN gaming with the original UT on 100mbps
that was the shizzle
Quake 4 Arena, UT, Tribes, C&C:RA, Starcraft
does anyone now the answer to this: hey guys if i wanted to ask/speak about home servers what would the best channel to do that in be
general server chat's probably here.
If asking for something specific it may be different
mobile desktop ? you didn't rule out mobile workstation and mobile server category then /s
well i am wanting to build my own home server for the first time and i am trying to see if theres a good place to get advice on setups parts etc
(I'm actually printing out a 3U 10" rack currently. I should print the last of the parts tomorrow? (I think)
we get it, you're rich.
t540p?
than man bought a jet, he's gonna milk it for every dollar he can
Gonna depend on what you're looking to get, a "home server" can be any number of things and need any number of different levels of hardware
Corporate money
a "home server" includes just as many, actually more things than just saying "computer"
precision m4800 actually seems like a better deal, it’s about the same price and comes with a dgpu
and it natively supports the 4940mx
There are literally thoussands of usecases and relevant specs for each
won’t the dgpu suck up power budget though
well i dont want just a baby server i actually wanna build what i can by engineering parts myself obviously not the cpu ram motherboard or drives but all the other parts, but i plan on using it for a lot of things such as hosting game servers, discord bots, and running my own fake websites so i can have fun learning cyber security
is that how that works? i was more so saying that some laptop vrms just won’t supply the power because it’s hard capped
Game Server: ezpz
discord bots: annoying but not hard
hosting websites: do not fuckin' bother
diy power supply let’s go
well not like a public website but one i can connect to lan wise
well a laptop has say a ~105w brick, if the gpu uses 40w
no lol i wish but i do go to college next year im doing MechE
yeah the cpu is 57w so might still be doable
what's your budget to build
so what do you even achieve to engineer here then
there is nothing to engineer but the parts you said unless you need oddly specific to you custom things which if so, cool
well thats what i was trying to figure out to begin with cuz besides business servers costing over 50 grand i dont have a lot of knowledge here but would be nice if it doesnt go over 5 grand
5 grand for a home server? TF?
well like actually physical parts of the server rack such as the case etc
i hear that the x series mobile cpus benefit greatly from undervolting in throttlestop so that could be interesting
well over time not spending it all at once, i would get parts over time
you got a CNC and/or laser cutter?
What are you looking to spend up front
@pure garnet never mind not a problem lmao
no but i do have a 3d printer which i will use to prototype then send off the actual models to be printed by companies that have those machines but i have a friend who might let me pay him to cnc it
(we're currently looking to buy a new server at work, and said and done for hardware/windows licenses we're probably looking at 75-80K USD for one fuckin' box)
uhm thats the issue i have no idea what a cost is for these
well as i said earlier im ok within the 5k usd range
you need to set yourself a scope for what you want to do up front.
You've got lots of dreams and no actual plans.
Until you know what your scope and budget are, you have nearly infinite options, but no way to narrow it down
you gotta find a use case first
i do have a use case
well my max is 5k i would rather spend somewhere in the 2-3k range but 5k is my hard limit
Your use case was "host game servers" then generically "host a website"
Are you looking to build in a tower?
in a 19" Rack?
in a 10" rack?
others?
you can host a game server on an old optiplex for like 200usd
the point is - if you just want to self host some apps, even a basic office PC rebranded as a "server" will do the job. If you want server grade hardware, 100TB+ storage, AI LLM box, then sure, budget skyrockets. So figure out the real scope of what you want to run, and that will define the hardware requirements
im looking to build a tower that i will make myself but able to later when i need to expand the ability to put in more servers
you're overcomplicating something you have no idea about lmao
what, you can't put in more servers into a single tower lol
what does that actually mean
virtualisation
I believe by "tower" you mean a rack, in which case do you want a 19" or a 10"
well hmm probably 10"
so it doesnt take up a bunch of space
that's not a tower >.<
10" is not really for compute
imma keep it a buck, you're gonna be pretty limited by what you can do then
it 1000% can be
my server is a thinkcenter tiny
where is a good place to research more info abt this from what ive found on google its been vague
until you actually need rack mount stuff just buy an older optipex and rock that tbh
i wouldnt mind a 19" idc abt size as long as it can fit in a room height wise and not taking up a giant space
any specific creators that dive deep in info abt it?
you could probably pull off something like this for about 5kusd
that’s a lot of usb ports
LTT, L1T, supermicro, etc
there is 7 USB ports in that image
ok thanks ill come back once ive gotten more info, quick question what are the general price ranges and what is usually expected of servers in those ranges?
30usd, to 30m usd
also if you’re buying old rack stuff check the power draw
Yeah, old servers suck back power like no other
r/homelab on reddit
L1 Techs
plenty of places dive into homelab stuff
too many
that rack is a 700w continous load with half the machines idling
you do not need a 300w enterprise 10gb switch for 4 devices
what’s the silver thing in the middle iroh
jbod
jordan’s big ole door
from top to bottom of "silver things", Patch panel, 10g switch, 2u blanking panel cause the server is hot rod rn, then a 24 bay JBOD
I'm 100% putting together a 10" rack to do proxmox and other things in it.
2 boxes with i7 12700T + 32GB RAM
2x Ras Pi 5's
etc
my 7700t should be here wednesday
aliexpress weird tech strikes again
4 core
cute tbh
it's a gimmick but I like it
it is also power button
yo that’s fire tho
my proxmox is silly for how much it does i gotta upgrade it some
10700
64GB
A750
12TB HDD
1.25TB SSD (some is cache)
~30% more multi
i am man please don’t beat me
I've got two of these:
i have big pc
i’m gonna move it all to a node something or other with the 12900KS and mpower
it’s like a node 804, matx fractal nas case
Yesyes. Internet cafes in Damascus in the early 2000s had games like UT, Need for Speed III, HS, and Porsche Unleashed, and even Quake that were pirated on PCs imported from Russia and other ex-Soviet countries. And consoles were ehhhhh.... They were there but super rare (mostly you saw either Sony PlayStation or Sega gaming consoles) as PCs were way more common

You had to know someone that's part of the black market to entertain the idea of owning a console during that time
Mostly PlayStation 1 and 2s was there mostly because it was fairly easy to mod the chip to be able to play games that were burned onto discs that were pirated or bootleged
i need hella drives rather than compute
I am pumped to get a MBP for work so that the screen is brighter and I can work outside
I took my M4 outside right now in direct sunlight and its usable
El gpu brick arrived xD
5090?
If i can get through all this tape that is
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
ASUS ProArt X670E-Creator WiFi
128GB DDR5 (4x32GB)
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
Corsair RM1000x
Noctua NH-D15
can ai be trusted it said this would be a good 3k server
I feel its alittle generous on the ram, just alittle biased
🤏
i would not
Valid perspective of an ai fs
ai is useless for build lists, its never well dated, no point for lists in AI, just for how to build
you should do more than ai research on this topic. you’re spending thousands of dollars
u goin up to 128GB?
likely, or like, 96
i think you need 2x128GB CQDIMMs on a 270K
no i understand i was just trying to find a starting point bc i have no knowledge in this area i was just seeing what u guys thought of the list to know whether or not ai could give actual good advice
12900KS on something d4/5 will be ok
this is true information
do other research than with ai, that’s all im saying bro
genuinely dude just buy an optiplex and toss linux on it
then when you have real compute demands upgrade
no ik that im just starting to do research im not close to buying anything yet
don’t waste 3k just to build a server
optiplexes are beneath me.
an optiplex probably has a better bios than your asrock board does champ
well i plan to do my side projects on it meaning cad, blender, scripts, apps stuff like that im currently in the process of building a custom hotas
four pronged eating utensil
asus will label a feature poorly, asrock just won't add the feature
my homelab started with HP Z440
so what you really need is a workstation
yes
and not really a server at all
because you intend to actually physically use the machine
jedec warrior right here
well i want to be able to work whether im at home or somewhere else
just let me disable RGB and we are good
my server is ram overclocked
i already have a good pc
3200 Cdie with tight timings
my name is not floppa so that isn't happening
Here's the thing, you need to sit down and decide what you want, and how important it is to you.
What you're describing currently not sounding like something that'd be worth a 3grand investment
do you guys think the outcome of this article is good or bad
assuming it's not an excessive volume of PB?
Good things, because PB is very healthy overall
So far so good
good
smoll gpu
What kind of server nhd15 out dated and 4 sticks on am5 Ryzen isn't Normally great
well its important to me its not a NEED its more of a WANT, but i have a list of things i want to use it for im just trying to find what the actual reasonable range is to have a good server thats not overpriced but also not just a penny scraping build either if that makes sense and idk what brands are good for servers etc
i saw an article of a doctor who ate junk food everyday, and he turned out healthier and lost weight it all depends on calorie intake and to make sure you get all the right vitamins and minerals and whatnot
Now if someone goes off and eats a pound of peanut butter a day for a month?
Well, nothing good will come from that
stop thinking of buying a server.
You're not, unless you're going to sink in way more than you are.
You're buying a computer and just doing "server like" activities on it.
i currently eat peanut butter everyday
well 1, a work station, but also 2 to be able to work on even when im not at home but have for example my laptop with me, and 3 to host things
Creamy or chunky
isnt a server just a computer
peanut butter tastes mid
gotta stop thinking of servers and computers like that
i am trying to but i dont think you understand when i say i have really no idea of where to start
just find a computer that suits your needs
a proper server has features that no home PC ever had, and makes a difference
Moderators ban this devil

like what, iDRAC?
i love the taste of peanut butter, but it doesn't like me back (i have a peanut allergy)
Step 1: Go to youtube and look up:
Level1Techs
Jeff Geerling
Look at their homelab related videos
creamy
ok i will be back time to go watch some youtube
iDRAC/iLO etc. is one feature.
Redundant power is another
Expansion levels that home PCs don't support
What did you do for God to punish you this harshly?
hold on, what is desktop for you? and does HEDT count?
HEDT is dead and has been for years
isnt a threadripper HEDT?
Titan cards and hedt died
not since they made entry into threadripper a 4K+ investment
or is workstation what was built off of HEDT
i am actually allergic to all nuts, and dairy
Based
not sure what i did, but god scorns me
Did you see the pneumatic epi-pen cannon that Emily the Engineer made?
Yes, but thankfully i'm not anaphylactic

tbf there are redundant ATX psus
basically this
but yah expansion levels much less, not enough lanes
yeah, but that's a very niche item, and they're not beefy enough to run high-end hardware
you don't get a redundant ATX PSU that's 1300W that can run 2 GPUs
I throw it into smoothies so needs creamy, but creamy is better regardless
Just get a mobo compatible with ECC ram then you can call it a "server"
is life even worth living
but yeah, now there are 3 tiers of computers:
Consumer grade (10$-5K USD range)
Workstation grade: (Good luck getting into that for less than 8K)
Server Grade: Sky's the fuckin' limit here boyos
Good idea getting photo evidence of a fresh clean power connector now you will have a good before and after photos if it ever melts
Half the budget for workstation grade is ram and SSD
I'm a bit slow, is that a 5090 or I'm tripping?
getting an entry xeon/threadripper and board is a several thousand dollar starting point, too.
They just didn't expect RAM to be another 2+ Grand on top of it (unless you were RAMMAXXING)
I lied just ram
now 256GB RAM (which is not unreasonable in a workstation) can easily run you more money than anything's worth
is that even ECC?
so yeah, today? a workstation with a decent CPU, 256GB RAM, ONE GPU, and reasonable storage
Could easily be a 20 grand investment to start
WE all WILL be buying the Intel Core Ultra 495DX
512gb of ddr5 ECC 8x64 is $19.8k
only
What a time to be alive
radeon :/
looks cool tho
A new car is $600 more
So, what's the cost of this thing...
lots
can you please put electrical tape over the radeon logos
ooo snow mode

I think snow mode catches the engine on fire to melt the snow on the windshield
HAMMOND!!
absolutely
thank you
Linus is with high end tech is like how Hammond is with expensive sports cars
lots of fatal crashes?

I can only imagine 😭
probably like 10K
car lots
oh
My own rig is like... ||500$||
Started helping my coworker that typically does our recruiting and whatnot right
Some of these resumes on these applications bro lmfao
what do you mean your professional summary is just “#readytowork”
professional crack smoker

hire that person immediately
DEADASS
what is a professional summary
i have no idea what that is
is your resume already not just a "professional summary"?
I mean, he seems like he has determination
It’s like a short 1-2 sentence thing you put at the top of your resume that describes you as a professional
oh that thing
I don't think I even have one
engineers don't need that
but having that be #readytowork is wild
Uhh, just curious about y'all opinion, check the battlestations...
it's a computer for sure
it's definitely a computer
What are you asking for an opinion on? It's a 12ish year old CPU/Board with a somewhat newer gpu.
It is exactly what it is
@turbid locust think I can put my professional summary as "expert TV buyer?"
I saw that Grace @low sorrel
Find my is a lie
I know your name is grace
"Your opinion" → "How shit is it"
🙂
it's a 12ish year old xeon, on DDR3 with a 6 year old low/mid tier gpu
I mean, what do you want
ok
Yea me too, my previous rig for example
You think I should search from my home to where I am or from where I am to my home
probably from where you are to your house
grace
I also don't remember the exact route I took
interesting looking cooler
swag
Yeah, one of the plastic thingies on the fan is glued
It can break off if I wiggle it (Didn't test, but feels like that for sure)
Is xg27aqwmg a good monitor? I’ve been wanting to upgrade from ips to Oled and I’m searching for the best 1440 Oled monitor, I didn’t like how none tandem oleds look in bright rooms (the purple haze) and that’s why I’ve been looking at the tandem (plus it looks better and brighter) but I’ve seen a lot of people saying it has really bad vertical banding so I don’t know what to choose I would appreciate any recommendations
Getting code 99 tried reseating the slot and cables
, did get d6 once or twice. Cleared cmos a few times. Fans aren't spinning except for half an initial spin
@steel stream so OLEDs get the brightness neutered to like 300 nits at a 100% window because of heat right?
Why don't they just strap a fan on it
mines like 3000 idk
what case is this? certainly something lian li?
Antec Flux Pro
217 ye
an amount of money
Oh damn NVM
i love my 207
best case i’ve ever built in
so damn user friendly
and those gpu fans are so effective i didn’t believe it
reduced my gpu temps by 20c compared to my old case
99 should be gpu initialized so check your cables
Myte be my monitor i plugged into hdmi and it grabbed right away
Gonna update drivers then try display again
Or maybe my cable i did try another port on the gpu but not the monitor little things, had me nervous for a sec
i know whats wrong with it
it aint got no gas in it
I'm kinda moneyless
unplug all IO from it, including aio usb
same
Dap me up
I can't wait for Core Ultra 265T or 285T based tinies end up being "cheap" in the refurb cycle
35w chip w 8P/12E cores
and an integrated NPU, all with ARC Graphics Cores
yea its a horrible kit
oh it's 112w
still pretty good for 20t
the coolers in the tinies sure as shit can't dissipate 112w
it'll be sub-50w most of the time
a cooler like that ain't dissipating 100w of anything
Drivers updated and display port works now wheeww lol also reseated into the monitor just incase. And monitor update released very groovy
im impressed that the cooler design hasn't changed since my kabylake cpu
the boxes can't really get bigger, so that's probably the most efficient cooler for the 1/2" height they have
all mini pc enclosures must accommodate a peerless assassin 120
that's straight up bigger than the pc
The design hasn't really changed since since (at least) Skylake
this is what hosts my jellyfin
the newer ones hold 2 NVME drives instead of 1 lol
i get 1 nvme 1 sata which is decent
This is what hosts my plex and nothing else
lookin crusty
yeah they have heat sinks and stuff, fans are not liked cause of noise, but I am sure there are other reasons, I would bet trying to get all 8 million nits to do 2000 nits would be some sort of power issue
that keyboard needs a REALLY good wipe
I ran my handvac over it which didn't do much but that's the most effort I want to give it
mission accomplished
crusty and dusty keyboard
Marginally better
I spy Logitech K400
man i do hate those racks without square holes for rack nuts
My instinct to wipe it clean had gone to rest, thank you
why? Rack Nuts are ass
no they aint
Just get a really big slow rpm fan are they stupid?
🤷
nobody like dealing with cage nuts and bolts
why do people hate rack nuts so bad
they're the fucking worst to deal with
I'd assume it's a power heat thing, miniled its easy to retain full brightness on because it's an order of magnitude smaller than OLED "dimming zones"
i can install them wihout issues barehanded and by feel
do people usualy struggle with them?
not all cage nuts are created equal is the problem, and they lack standardization.
Diameter? Thread? Good luck finding one standard
I was dying watching Linus and Jake try to rack out his new house and just had to upload a simple how-to.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to Taylor'd Tech!!
Support me by shopping on Amazon:
eBay too:
...
Hey it's not an order of magnitude it's 2-4 order of magnitudes
Liquid cool it
ones i have are either m6 or m5
i usualy install switches, ups and servers with m6 ones and patch panels, cable managers and other light gear with m5 ones
She's got some coil whine but tolerable
They really went soft on the fan curve though
Whatcha playing
is the bios switch on silent?
Where's the switch on this one?
Oh i see ty ill check after this run cant see what its on
With 100% fans solid 52c xD
it's under the fan cover
I give up
Did you check EVERYWHERE?
Sir I lost it in a 1500mx400m radius
1500 by 400 meter square
Oh, well
@pure garnet i'm tracking an hd 7850 for $15 on goodwill lol
Tim Cook stepped down - buy now, sell tomorrow after hype
I mean, not surprised you don't hear em...
What part of techpocalypse is it when you buy used SSD's
A bad part
yeah I wasn't thrilled about it but the guy did post crystaldiskinfo results for it
Can John terus find my airpods case
A K-9 might
someone tell me if this is good
what would be bad about it
that's why I'm asking!
I know that it's off topic, but just wanna share here, listening to a drone rn flying over me🙂
I'll delete if that's too off topic (I mean, it is tech in a way... :D)
I dunno but I bought 62 shares
Tomorrow will dip in the AM and then bump like 5-10%
and then I will sell 62 shares
Brother I don't think I can even afford a 1/10 of a share
im sorry
I mean, depends on what's the cost per one
yeah i wasn’t questioning that
should be able to do better tho
i want to put my account into after hours shares but i have far less financial cushion than you if you’re wrong lmao
Riddle me this:
User sends a plain text email to 4 recipients. (I was one on the last email as a test)
It gets sent, goes to sent items.
I receive said email.
~15 seconds later it disappears from his sent items, as well as everyone's inbox who received it.
(no outlook rules, or manual unsending are being performed at least that I can find....)
how TF is mail disappearing from inboxes?
I'm in Ukraine, but if it's possible to work remotely for McDonald's...🤔
Have you tried moving
bros gonna be flipping burgers with a drone
Dude, I stopped managing email like 65 years ago
Perchance
but that's just freaking weird
i eated it
Yeah it sounds like some sort of weird cache issue
Nah, I'm fine here (Ignore the message above, I'm not bombed everyday or sum 😭)
And I'm not 18 so yea
Personal question for all of you, would you pay 400usd more for 48gb of ram on an M5 pro vs 24gb, price being 2199usd vs 2599usd
Finally John apple.
Do it
You make a damn good point
Instructions unclear, I have bought both
i have the ram
but not a single ddr5 motherboard lmao
guys, should i even download wifi drivers when i am not using wifi on my pc? Im just using ethernet. Idk if then something will work just better if i just install it.
ive been running a ddr4 z790 for like forever
Build it
No I mean literally build it
💔
Be a Chinese enthusiast for a sec

?
yes, do not let unidentified hardware live in device manager
The card is boutta bust
(I'm sorry)
🤨
All the essential drivers are probably downloaded already, so, I guess not
Why the helmet tho
wifi is also bluetooth so yes you want it
helmet safe (not always)

you never know when you're gonna get crammed into the back of an M113
cheaper than buying ram
Uh huh
Be a step further and create DDR6
Ram from the 2000s has gotta be dirt cheap on ebay
is that what he made? i just started watching the video
I store some ram within reach in case I'm hungry when gaming
Actually, I do know that I'm not getting in that thing anytime soon! :D
Hot take, but pseudostatic ram needs a real comeback. I wonder if DIY could pull that off in some way.
oof
He made nothing lol
Er
Pseudostatic meaning like semi-volatile instead of true volatile like ram is RN?
Let me rephrase that
He's certainly not making DDR3/4/5 that you can slot into your home system
DDR0?
This is much more hardcore version of Ben eaters homemade cpu
let me dream man
homemade what
i wanna make ddr4 in my backyard
Basically, it's dram with a memory cell design that allows it to behave like sram.
homemade CPU sounds a lot cooler than it actually is
same question
this is the CPU (not my image)
Fucking awesome, but not a CPU like you would normally think
Dynamic random-access memory (dynamic RAM or DRAM) is a type of random-access semiconductor memory that stores each bit of data in a memory cell. A DRAM memory cell usually consists of a microscopic capacitor and a transistor, both typically based on metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) technology.
While most DRAM memory cell designs use a capaci...
We need asml at home
Asml at home:
nuh uh, i would have two magnifying lenses
"Not my image" no offense but, no shit it's not yours 😭
Looks kinda cool tho. I mean, probably useless, but still cool
Better be made by Zeiss
only the highest quality amazon basics
It's just an educational project
Wtf kinda GPUs are these lol
cool
Interesting!
Still a better fab than anything Elon will try to make
I bought some of those for my 8950
oh, also, how do you get a "regular" role
I'm without my glasses, perhaps I missed that one somewhere
I haven't figured it out either
but I'm also not very regular
His is... Over-ambitious to me.
"Hm, must be a newbie too'
joined 2024
"Ah."
Ludicrous
:3
Gotta join 2023
I have many thoughts on terafab
Mainly that he shouldn't try to build his own fab
Also, he's literally trying to use the same process as everybody else, so that's just further feeding into ASML's monopoly and also feeding into a process that despite it's refinement is full of problems when it comes to manufacturing at scale.
Also mildly annoyed that I don't have my join date as 2022 because I left and rejoined
Define "same process"
Damn gotta do a time machine real quick
no, wait, I won't meet the Discord TOS in 2023... Guess I'm just staying "Common rarity"😔
EUV
Fair enough.
Unfortunately to make stuff at current leading edges and future nodes, EUV is a requirement
Intel 10nm tried to do high density with DUV only and that was terribly delayed and suffered yield issues
Not to mention it's pretty expensive
Just curious, do y'all have day rn
No we blew up the sun
Yeah I noticed
make an account on the ltt forum and connect your discord to it
Pretty night for me
I mean, if that's the one they want to be stuck with.
Most EUV machines these days are both massive compared to older ones, have many issues due to their complexity, and of course have loads of teething issues with yields if you're not TSMC, who managed to at least get on it and refined it as much as possible. Most other semiconductor vendors are just not there when it comes to viability, even if they've already figured things out (Intel for instance) if we want bleeding edge reliably... Well, in the case you're someone like Broadcom or such who does any super massive in terms of chip die area.
Damn a person just got an answer they've looked a few years for 😭
The only other option that could make sense is x-ray, but then like... There's only two intended vendors/tool makers on the way that could potentially do that and they're still years off from getting things fully at scale.
Actually?
and thanks
#welcome covers it
And with Substrate, the way they want to do their process is a full wafer one-shot, which means they would literally be doing a full-wafer scale mask, which is crazy in technicality to pull off.
Oh there's an embark dev in here
I'm blind asf
Fuck it woulda been funny to ping him when I had really funny bug on arc
The EUV tools are huge but fans are being built to support these increasing tool sizes. The expensive and learning curve of EUV is worth it compared to trying to make DUV work for smaller and smaller nodes
Intel 18a has a lot of yield issues due to the nature of the process
EUV itself isn't responsible for that yield loss
I see
Mostly the backside power...
Although it's fun looking down the EUV aisle of a fab and just saying "dam, that's a billion dollars right there"
Also the regular EUV tools are tiny compared to the new gen ones
I like how I read what y'all are saying and understand and not understand at the same time
Of course it's not responsible really for the losses. It's the same issue as with finding actually reliable bluray burners. They don't quite exist because the precision is so tight, a manufacturer would be designing a product with tighter tolerances than the tech that came before and for something made at cost, doing both is not a thing.
So yeah, the nature of the process is the catch they're running up against that's driving most of the complexity, especially when they're chasing the bleeding edge.
I was certain they were originally.
Really, it was only the new litho machines I ever had found out about were the huge ones.
Oh yeah
what does Blu ray do that makes it different from regular dvd?
and harder to make
happy 4/20
Jokes on you but it's 4/21 for me
jokes on you I don't give a toot
hey that's not nice :(
not sure but I think it has to do with the density of data storing on it? I'm a dum dum and not sure, but I think it's something like that
Ah ok
Again not sure
I happen to own the first consumer available PC with a Blu-Ray drive
I lost my airpods case and find my is broken
The Sony Vaio RC-310G
yoo anyone think they can help me take off my cable for rgb bc I Dont want rgb anymore and they just dont work I cant turn them off with the software
Smaller light wavelength laser (blue-violet, which is around 405 nm and smaller), so the pits are even smaller and can be packed tigher, allowing more data to be stored.
I don't think it's rockst science to pull a cable out but someone could help I guess :D
Ohhhh coolio
sorry I just never touch my pc like that fr, the most ive done was change ram
So... Was I right?
oh cool!
but more expensive
However, the catch is to read and write data at that dot pitch, you need a more accurate reader/burner.
if your able to help me I would grately appreciate it, for example what side is my rgb cable at, the back or in the glass yk
Bigger data density (i think)
good morning again tech chat 2
That means increased complexity in some shape or form, which increases cost in exchange for reducing reliability.
silver one second from left :3
work is a constant cycle of agony
(i see puter and then press buttons on it in the bios & windows)
The rgb connector is separate from the fan (I think), just find where they are on your motherboard and take them out (And turn the PC off fully, obviously)
Not sure, better go Google or wait for someone else to answer
k
Ngl, my dream nugget pc find would be a passively cooled pc (not an industrial computer tho, too easy to find)
Like the media center ones
And that's basically the comparison I'm making between bluray drives and current generation EUV lithography machines..
Hello TC2
notice something?
Are you too of the high
Why does the psu have an Nvidia branded cable? Qwq
[guy takes shots of orange juice with sad music .gif]
(No one ever does (i thimks)
na, that shit just makes me dizzy
Don't forget to bring a towel
Oh free pokemon card
bullshit
The only free stuff I found on the street were metal rusty bolts
(I still have them)
Aw I thought it was you I was gonna fuck with you in twitch chat
NO its not me lmao
thats why im so annoyed at the automod
its just a fuckin' live dj
he actually works the deck live instead of playing some lame-ass playlist
Oh yeah old EUV tools dwarf the DUV scanners
And the high NA class do the same to regular EUV scanners
You mean you guys aren't chilling outside with your outdoor cozy blanket?
No I'm outside trying to find this fucking airpods case for the past 4 hours
4 hours? let it go bro
No
That's the mood, go get that case bro
I managed to fix an old man's phone as a side quest
I've gotten 30k steps in today lol
Which gen airpods
Pro 2
Will they work with a pro 1 case
Fucking find my is broken
It's fate
My roommate lost/destroyed 3 pairs of pro 2 smh
I don't get how you can lose the ear buds
I can get losing the case or the case and the ear buds at the same time
Leave them at a restaurant on a road trip
Lose the case
Send them in the wash
I can't get how y'all are using buds, personally for me they're kinda annoying as hell
They fit in pocket
True
Also I find earbuds to be much more comfortable
Over ears get warm
And now that I wear glasses I generally find over ears to be uncomfortable
Get better earpads
In ear have their own set of issues, but the convenience factor is the real deciding factor
I'm also wearing glasses, but I don't see how they change... Ah, you mean the frame getting pressed on by headphones?
Yes
I dunno, for me it's ok
Actually I stopped using my over ears during covid cause it was pain with a mask
I am specifically talking about ANC over ears where you want them to press against you to form a good seal
I do not have these issues with my Sennheiser open backs but like those can't leave the house cause open back
Also, I never even wear buds/headphones in the street
I prefer just... Walking, I dunno
Oh I'd kill myself if I had to do that
open backs great for the house, horrible for going out and doing things
They may as well be glued to my desk
Psychopath
I mean, I get it, listen to something while on a walk, but I just usually go out with friends and stuff, and even if I'm alone, I find it somehow scary/weird to just walk around in buds
Perhaps
Bone conduction headphones
Lol I'm not suggesting wearing ANC buds when you're hanging out with friends
I'm not native speaker and not sure tf that means
But if I'm out walking it's either to get somewhere or to exercise, in both cases I want to turn off my brain and down out the tinnitus
What upgrade would be the best for my brother coming from a 5800x
13700k with new motherboard
5800x3d
5950x plus another 32gb ram making 64gig total
He mainly plays video games most are cpu intense with a 7900xt and he has talked about 3d modeling
I personally have no issues with not being able to hear the world around me but I understand some people don't like that
I would be selling his old cpu to make up the difference as I did buy the 5800x
These are terrible in loud environments, unfortunately
Same but not for me
I kinda... Just speak to myself in my head or even quietly hum under my breath about everything I fucking see
Like: "Hm that car looks nice fr" and ramble about people
Bone conduction is the conduction of sound to the inner ear primarily through the bones of the skull, allowing the hearer to perceive audio content even if the ear canal is blocked. Bone conduction transmission occurs constantly as sound waves vibrate bone, specifically the bones in the skull, although it is hard for the average individual to di...
Interesting
Word on the street the 5800x3d is coming back in production
I got it now, thanks
Bone
If it does and its $300 im definitely buying it idk if its worth $400 rn over a 13700k or 14700k
Now that I read what I just wrote, sounds weird...
They should release it at market value ($550)
Damn it
Same
I'm 14 cores short of your level
Help me add them?
think it's worth the 120USD to upgrade to a 270K+ from Newegg?
My roommate is still using a 13700k for 3 years now, no regression so far
I gotta get another 5080 first bc mine died and now I have a 9070xt
Rma/warranty?
And you'd be willing to switch to an am4 platform? And have to buy a brand new old motherboard and a brand new old CPU?
Returned it it happened in like a month
Hey if you don't like that 9070xt...
When I bought 270k+ it was only a $90 upgrade
To be honest, you can probably put a hundred bucks to better use
But if you can afford to throw that away on something fun, eh fuck it why not

I don't want to imagine what your pc would do if you stuck a 9070xt in there
What CPU do you have again?
?
Nah nah, I'd just leave it till better time comes
His pc is very old, I mean DDR3 old
Oh I see lol

So that 9070xt would be massively bottlenecked and it probably wouldn't be running on max either cause of the pcie slot not supporting it
Lame, 64 cores (soon, hopefully, trying to find a cheap enough decommissioned epic cpu)
I have a planned future build actually
Two, even
One of them is impossible for me anytime soon, but one is... Surprisingly possible
Yeah fr be like using a 1060 with 16gb of vram
Yeah basically 😭
kinda what I'm thinking, probably not worth the price right now
He has a Xeon E5-2680 v2
(Or a thread ripper, which ever is the cheapest with at least 64 cores)
What in the world do you need 64 cores for
You can also go with an older dual socket Xeon
pi hole, duh /s
I mean, it can play what I play so at least it's not worse
To be clear, you're on LGA1851?
What is pi hole
its gross
Mouth
DNS based ad blocking
Oh right
named pi hole because it's designed to run on a raspi
Thought it was the other hole
This makes more sense now
Ear hole 👂
Nope, never using a dual cpu system, I don’t have to manage that system
Yes...
it's mostly plug and play
A server with a ton of VMs and for some heavy data storage/manipulation (eventually)
I remember trying to get Linux onto my PC... It was in January
0/10 experience, literally not possible
My poor 5080 couldn't even run counter strike without being more studdery than a crack heads brain
what PC do you have?
100% a skill issue
bad
Nuh uh
265K right now (Which is a 230 trade in on `egg)
- I think the motherboard is Windows locked or sum ✌️
is it an OEM build?
What do you have?
Yes, but it’s on more fan to clean and take care of, one more heat sink, I have to have enough individual ram sticks for both of them
downloading 9GB at 3.5MB/s is just painful
Pretty much impossible to do
Yea, I didn't know that when I tried to force Linux into it
Fr my internet used to be 5mb max
2500+ seconds? Enjoy that nap
You can’t “windows lock” a mobo
I simply choose not to clean my servers until they are actively choking
I only had Hotspot for 4 years
Ah, same setup, aside that 270k+ jumped up $30 now
Yeah it's not gonna be an ROI kinda upgrade....just for funzies
Tell that to OEMs, because they'll do everything they can to do just that
An impending aneurysm, hbu?
There are 100% ways to get linux on any mobo, but certain OEMs make it a total pain in the ass to do so
Go for 192 cores
What cpu
I meant 270k+
Z890 tomahawk
48gb 8200cl38
Yeah I'll just wait for when I upgrade and perchance try again
Link in bio 👊
plugs in an ssd with Linux already installed
boooo msi
Yeah, won't boot
MSI good motherboards
Uhh, no. 😭
You doubt the persistence of OEMs to fuck their customers over
Holy ssds good lord where do they even go lmao
out of the box, I could put 9 NVME's in my board
Imma have dinner and come back
Same here
Damn im locked to 4 rn
Z890 Nova
I currently have 6 for the lulz
Tell you what, it didn't even boot the fucking installer of Linux
I tried FIVE distros
I do love my arous pro x tho
why have NVME when you can have 24 SAS drives
In the motherboard? Where else would SSDs go
Also it's only 6tb
And to answer your question, yes i now have tinnitus
Flash a modded bios?
(if there isn’t one, make it)
That is what i meant by:
There are 100% ways to get linux on any mobo, but certain OEMs make it a total pain in the ass to do so
Here's my unused/ewaste pile
I'll take those ssds
Uhh, no, I'm too young and dumb to flash my own BIOS onto the mobo
+, the forums they are at are Russian and probably... Ooooold
Actually you won't
Damn
My 850 evo is still the most expensive storage device I've purchased
My server (until I get my own place) is a tower server in my hobby room which I can’t insulate that much against noise so I don’t want to get a server rack yet
If any of those were SCSI, I would have happily taken some off your hands
96GB 6400 CL32 for $650??
It’s not that hard tbh
4 Vertical Beskar NVME SSDs, just for the giggles
Like, I'd rather fucking wait for an upgrade, less nerve wracking
Sounds fair all considered
Therver
I should test mine when I get the chance
is that your server
You can’t ever be too young to flash your first bios,
Why is every active person in this server in this chat right now
It's terrifying that that's a reasonable price
Therver
For funsies
I dunno, I'm new
The barracuda and wd blue started throwing errors in unraid
The apple drives are apple, no idea if they're usable regularly but holy shit they old
is this stuff lichen or moss
So I got a laptop 1tb HDD that's usable I guess but SATA and 5400rpm
I'm just a nerd and had to use the Beskar NVMEs 😄
steals your rack
Capacity? Speed?
Lichen
50 pin? 68 pin?
not sure tho, but maybe
still the lamest SSD to ever exist:
Is it fuzzy or rough?
kinda but more like really wet clothes that tear easy
Tf this template ssd? 😭
Lovely answer
I have a drive (old 1.5tb apple one) that died so hard it locks up any pc (macOS, Linux, windows) from even posting
Maybe both
perhaps
That's an actual SSD, I have several in my bucket of SATA SSDs
for a novice that didn't even recognize that the OEM bit was why it was annoying, it very much is
Iroh pointed out the 3d print job on the stand before
i’m on my break at work
I messaged the guy, it was already gone 💔
The dead drives?
Yeah It's just funny how it's so boring
i’m thinking of bringing home a north xl glass here really soon
Ohhh, yeah…. Mushy bwain, sowwy
Oh.....
The labels are all visible
i quite like them
NVM then
Well not dead....just not trustworthy
Goodness gracious
(It was a pos even when it was brand new)
Again, the drives started to throw errors in unraid so we replaced them asap
Im down to my last 2 hdds
Oh wait I'mma send a pretty photo too
the wall of near-ewaste, and pretty, fake flowers
Well for backups thats is
Me with my gpu collection (some of them are actual ewaste)
What's the reaosn speicifcially to want SCSI instead of sata
most of those drives at 12-15 years old
My turtle (Not sure, I'm without my glasses)
there are two genuine LSI i16 HBA's though
old computer
They have rare occasional uses
I can't show any cool pc stuff because I haven't done shit recently but here's some lovely pork loin I bought for my friend from a farm
wait like parallel SCSI?
this looks like pure darkness with a single red, blue, and green dot
So much more professional than my box of ewaste drives 😂
yes homie like scsi hard drives
i have really bad ADHD, i either see it daily, or it doesn't exist
Wouldn't the port be different
he’s saying if it was
ancient computer
This is what I tell my gf
I'd love a 386
