I had bought 3 for 300$ CAD a year ago 😭

edgy laurel
#

anyway, my point was MB Neo doesn't replace iPads for people who want/use/like iPads. MacOS is a whole different animal

cosmic gazelle
#

i mean i have to have a phone though i don’t have to have an ipad

#

also when apple denies my gfs like gen 2 ipad pro because it has backlight bleed that is a result of THEIR shitty design it makes me sour about ipads

but that’s just a crotchety old man take

I disagree completely. There is nothing she needs or wants from a traditional computer, there is zero benefit to her owning one.

cosmic gazelle

lack of cognitive engagement is a direct contributor to neurodegenerative diseases and i oppose any contribution to that

edgy laurel

Forcing seniors to use caveman style traditional computers is not a benefit to anyone.

MacBooks getting a touchscreen I can see being a total no-go, but I think macOS being touch-capable for iPads isn't too sacrilegious knowing iPadOS has been copping Mac features for the past five years.

At least if we start from the year iPadOS got more desktop-like features

i was playing with GPU Offload (no need, it will only load as much as needed onto GPU) and more importantly there is a "Number of layers for which to force MoE weights onto CPU" -- i had to play around with that, but with i think 24 or so it runs at ~22t/s with total memory requirements of ~30GB. Which is a nice speed considering i only got 16GB VRAM GPU.

shell void

edgy laurel
pure garnet

i thought it had dual x870e

#

i was misinformed from the review i read a month ago

#

it’s 2 x870 chipsets but the written comment was x870e

#

so i assumed it had 4 total chipsets

edgy laurel
#

ah. yeah I mean X670, X670E and X870E all have just two chips

#

this link needs to not be 4.0 in the future

shell void
#

there should be some boards that have no chipset at all, and only 2 dimm slots for people that want something cheap

pure garnet
#

hey if it’s good enough for the memory

shell void
#

a lot of people dont even need one promontory

edgy laurel
#

what is the bandwidth of Z890's DMI interface these days

shell void
#

iirc it's 4.0x8

edgy laurel
#

double

#

then again, they don't care about PCIe slots anymore

shell void
#

Z990 (nova lake) keeps the same bandwidth by doing 5.0x4 dmi

pure garnet
#

yeah do we even need a chipset on budget boards

shell void
#

i wonder if X970E boards will still be using Promontory 21

pure garnet
#

idk what the sio thing is but

#

that’s basically everything you’d need

shell void
#

i think a lot of people would be down to save like $50 on a basic board with no chipset

pure garnet
edgy laurel
pure garnet
#

that just vomits out voltages nobody cares about

shell void
edgy laurel
#

presumably Prom21 speaks over 4.0x4 so I imagine they'd design a new one if that changed

pure garnet

i’m pretty sure the only difference between my b850 mlg and my x870 tomahawk is the usb 4 ports and a couple extra usb a

the chipsets are all just artificial fr

pallid marsh

is building mini itx dumb if i want small form factor

edgy laurel

how else do you expect to get proper sff?

eager elm
#

well i should probably rephrase that

#

i do want small factor but im wondering if the jump from mini itx to micro-atx is worth the extra size considering the price and storage capacity

shell void
#

micro atx is significantly cheaper and easier

edgy laurel
#

if you have these questions now, you don't want to dive into ITX

lethal topaz
#

depends on if you want to pay the mini itx tax

shell void
#

small matx cases have grown in popularity in the last couple of years

eager elm
#

idk how good it is tho

shell void
#

there are very few circumstances where you actually need a tiny ITX PC, it's mostly for fun, mATX is cheaper and equally as practical

edgy laurel
#

what you do want is a compact mATX case like the A3-mATX. save money and your sanity unless you're truly "into" small SFF

eager elm
#

yeah u guys are probably right

#

out of curiosity do most tiny itx mobos only support 1 m.2

#

i mean ones that are fairly priced

edgy laurel
#

2 isn't uncommon

#

just have to look on something like PCPP

eager elm
#

alr i was just curious but i think matx is probably easiest for me

edgy laurel

can set the minimum number of M.2 slots and search

eager elm

and most logical

shell void

eager elm

shell void

this was before the ram prices spiked up it's a shame

devout ridge

In big fish tank cases you can get away with doing stuff in a lot of different orders, in ITX cases there’s usually one way to easily do it

eager elm
#

that makes sense

thats so cool bro

devout ridge

i was thinking abt the 7800x3d but for an extra 80 bucks why not just get the 9800x3d surely

edgy laurel
#

PCPP's "completed builds" feature is invaulable as a beginner if you're unsure what fits and how to put it all together. Select the case, scroll down, click "see completed builds using this case".

shell void
#

if you can safely afford it then yeah get the 9800X3D

eager elm
shell void
#

if youre strapped for cash then i think they have a 7500X3D + 16GB ram bundle for much less

eager elm
devout ridge
shell void
devout ridge
#

you pay the ITX tax tho

honestly ill probably look into mitx and matx and see what's worth more to my heart and wallet

eager elm
#

i saw the fractal design terra at my microcenter

#

looked pretty cool

#

is the a3 the most compact m atx u can get?

shell void
#

naw there are some niche cases that are most space efficient

#

the A3 is just nice because it's very affordable and readily available

eager elm
edgy laurel
#

don't even need to go that small. Lot more breathing room in things like the NCASE M3

eager elm
#

are all of the niche ones roughly this price ?

edgy laurel

$245 though

edgy laurel
eager elm

yeah that make sense

i feel like the a3 still looked pretty big in person

but maybe thats cause i was looking at it pretty much on eye level

edgy laurel
#

a3 has lots of fans around here

eager elm

correct me if im wrong

#

is the wooden version the only one that has airflow in the front?

edgy laurel

iirc, yes. but you have to remember it isn't a fullsize tower

shell void
edgy laurel

its airflow pattern doesn't work that way

shell void

it's not much smaller than a modern midtower in terms of footprint

ugh 5nail have you seen ncase's Cosmic Orange powdercoat

topaz veldt
#

yes

edgy laurel
#

thats so bright

topaz veldt
#

its like... of all colors

eager elm
#

is there a difference between the m3 grater and the round performance wise

hoary hatch
#

Does it match the iPhone

topaz veldt
#

they don't do white, but they do caution orange

topaz veldt
eager elm
#

so its a must

topaz veldt
#

imho yes

eager elm
#

and the flatpack is just i have to put it together right

topaz veldt
#

yes

#

which you shoudl do anyway because there are so many layouts

#

like mine is "inverted"

eager elm
#

it would be 260 shipped to me

brisk jolt
topaz veldt
#

I was running this for a while

#

if you do it this way you don't need feet, because the GPU is intaking from above

eager elm
#

let me find a mobo

#

hows this?

edgy laurel
#

M3 + FE card + ATX PSU + mATX board example https://ncased.com/blogs/m3-builds/m3-build-level4

NCASE

The goal of this build is to provide guidance on component compatibility. The component choices are not optimized for performance, thermals, or budget. Notice: Small Form Factor PC builds are typically more challenging compared to standard PC builds, requiring greater attention to detail and advanced assembly skills. T

eager elm
#

this looks cool

edgy laurel
#

that overhang of the GPU on the PSU is scary. better hope your particular PSU doesn't have ports there

#

but this is what you deal with trying to put big parts in small cases

topaz veldt
#

I would avoid ASRock B650 anything

eager elm
#

what would u recommend

topaz veldt
#

Anything but ASRock

eager elm
#

also what psu since i no longer need sfx

topaz veldt
#

looks like you can do an RM850x

#

but i dunno

eager elm
topaz veldt
#

also the point of the grater diminshes if the whole front is blocked by PSU

edgy laurel
#

good point

edgy laurel
# eager elm msi?

i don't think there is anything wrong with Asrock B650 (just 850/870) but if not Asrock, you only have 3 other options and they're fine

eager elm
#

?

edgy laurel
#

does it have what you need?

eager elm
#

yes

#

theres two different versions with different ios. Im assuming the one on the right is better correct?

#

more usb c and gen 3?

edgy laurel
#

better is up to you

eager elm
#

fair enough

brisk jolt
#

theres no definitive better here from us

eager elm
#

when it comes to layout for the m2 is what are considered "objectively" better layouts restricted by psu size?

edgy laurel
#

if you're trying to put an mATX board and ATX PSU in either M2 or M3, you don' thave many options for layout

eager elm
#

well i think the matx board makes sense for me but im not sure abt the psu

edgy laurel
#

in fact looking at the layout examples, its the same just one is inverted

brisk jolt
#

I do not trust them transporting a 15L area box around regularly after he said “hopes and dreams” transporting it

eager elm
#

im a good driver bro chill

#

its also not that long of a drive

brisk jolt
#

this isnt about ur driving skills- you have no contingency plan whatsoever

eager elm
#

ill worry abt that after i actually have the computer

eager elm
edgy laurel
#

if i'm building in a case like that, SFX without question. removing compromises

brisk jolt
#

just go all in since you’re transporting it so you can fit it in a bag pepoJuice

edgy laurel
#

Corsair's SF line is kinda the best

brisk jolt
#

i dont find lugging around a really big fat box everyday worth the price diff of smaller versus fat

eager elm
#

yeah i figured

#

it would cost me roughly ~1300$ to build in a matx if i get the m2

#

idek if that's worth it the case is the same cost as the mobo and psu combined

brisk jolt
#

“who cares about having cool temps, let the fastest man win”

eager elm
#

a small box would literally cost me roughly the same

brisk jolt
eager elm
#

specially if im alr paying 260 for an matx case

hoary hatch
#

eager elm
#

is there no other more reasonably price compact matx case

brisk jolt
#

no not really unless you resort to china

#

dude just grow bigger testicles and go smaller via the s300

devout ridge
#

matx is a weird middle ground that most companies don’t care enough about to make a competitively priced case

eager elm
#

like if im genuienly gonna spend 170 on a mobo and 260 on a case i might aswell go mitx surely

devout ridge
#

REAL

brisk jolt
#

yes yes yes yes

devout ridge
#

BUY THE T1

eager elm
#

the t1 is cool

devout ridge
#

buy it!

brisk jolt
#

t1 is too expensive for him xd

devout ridge
#

shut up setsuna

#

300 ain’t much more than 260

brisk jolt
#

he’s crying over it already while considering a M2/M3 with matx parts and a large psu

#

he’s gonna get itx taxed xd

topaz veldt
#

If you are considering an M2/M3 then you are not considering a T1

topaz veldt
devout ridge
#

they’re two different size classes

topaz veldt
#

I have a Terra and an M3 - those are not the same potential systems

devout ridge
#

there’s SFF, then there’s sub-10L SFF

#

the T1 is sub-10L sff

eager elm
#

well yeah ik i came in here wanting mitx cause i think its super cool but was turnt away from it because of the mitx tax and the difficulty in building

devout ridge
#

“SFF” is generally anything less than 25L

#

the difficulty really isn’t too bad

eager elm
topaz veldt
brisk jolt
#

@devout ridge btw ive decided end of the year to cerakote my T1 to like a silver-blue pepoJuice

topaz veldt
#

mITX and SFX PSU is like $200 total to a build

#

compared to mATX and ATX PSU

devout ridge
#

the lowest spec T1 is actually only 195usd before shipping

brisk jolt
#

completely new build, replacing everything except for the C5 CU

eager elm
brisk jolt
topaz veldt
#

I would recommend SFX

#

@devout ridge look at this nonsense

devout ridge
#

i wanna barf

brisk jolt
#

You already got the glacial?

devout ridge
#

there’s so many conflicting colors

brisk jolt
#

Oh no thats prob another build

eager elm
devout ridge
topaz veldt
#

I don't follow the mATX stuff so dunno if anything worthwhile there

#

mATX was invented to be cheap

devout ridge
#

you won’t regret, promise

eager elm
topaz veldt
brisk jolt
#

i think you should do a S300 or a T1, mITX board, SF series PSU and a axp47

devout ridge
#

that’s the go to cooler for the T1 with a >2.5slot gpu

eager elm
#

what mobo would u recommend

devout ridge
#

whatever itx board with the IO you want that you can get for cheap

brisk jolt
#

They could also consider something like a velka 7 tbh

#

Its at like below 7L

eager elm
#

anything i should avoid

devout ridge
topaz veldt
devout ridge
#

and if they’re already worried about the build process in the T1, i doubt they’re up for the velka

topaz veldt
devout ridge
eager elm
#

is there any mobo brand i should avoid

topaz veldt
brisk jolt
topaz veldt
#

I would avoid ASRock w/ AM5

devout ridge
brisk jolt
#

they have a 3080fe

topaz veldt
devout ridge
#

oh it’s 2 slot

topaz veldt
#

yes

devout ridge
#

yeah then what snail said

#

i jumped in halfway into the conversation and missed the specs, my bad

topaz veldt
#

I've tested all this shit - the id 67 xt is the best

brisk jolt
#

na ur good

devout ridge
#

the T1 was my first PC build and i found it to be pretty easy, though i made a point of taking my time

eager elm
#

this is slightly more expensive than what i had for the matx build

#

this is on top of the 9800x3d bundle from microcenter which id sell the mobo from

devout ridge
#

no asrock for am5

#

they like to go explode

topaz veldt
devout ridge
#

oh and get custom cables at some point, they’re really nice to have

topaz veldt
#

prob not in budget

#

but if he goes SF850 he will be fine

devout ridge
#

not required for air cooling, but by god do they look nice

eager elm
#

there is this

#

with zero reviews

devout ridge
#

Yeah i mostly meant in future when they have extra funds

brisk jolt
#

thats not am5

eager elm
#

im a dumbass

topaz veldt
#

Personally i'd go M2 or M3 grater

brisk jolt
devout ridge
eager elm
#

this is all we got

devout ridge
topaz veldt
#

@eager elm this is a 9950X3D w/ 48GB of 8000 CL36 RAM, 4TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe, 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe, 280mm AIO, 5090, SF1000... and its silent, performs amazing, and is easily movable to and from my office.

devout ridge
#

(everything minus the aio fits in the T1 as well)

#

(would have to be a 240mm aio)

eager elm
#

i dont doubt that i just mean like if im alr spending 260 on a case, getting a sfx psu and a 170 usd mobo

#

why not mitx

devout ridge
eager elm
#

small is cool

topaz veldt
#

mITX is nice

#

its hilarious, actually

devout ridge
#

fitting absurdly powerful gear into something smaller than a shoebox is funny

eager elm
#

i think it could be the move

topaz veldt
#

There's a mobo behind there lol

devout ridge
#

if you squint really hard, it looks like a box fan

eager elm
#

is the Gigabyte B650I AORUS ULTRA good with you guys

#

or is gigabyte a piece of shit too

brisk jolt
#

@eager elm how much does the s300 cost for you on say, taobao or ali

devout ridge
#

ooh pretty

topaz veldt
#

@shell void $1200 mobo experience is kind of cool

devout ridge
topaz veldt
eager elm
#

it's like 100 bucks w out shipping on aliexpress

#

but does it look as cool as the t1

#

also the t1 is cheaper than the m2

topaz veldt
#

If you are looking at T1 why not Terra

eager elm
#

terra would work better for me

#

as i wouldnt have to pay shipping

#

i saw the terra irl too and it looked cool

topaz veldt
#

the only dumb is the color selection

#

I powdercoated a silver one white

eager elm
#

my microcenter only has the ugly jade one and the black

#

id just get the black

topaz veldt
#

word

#

the silver is kind of ass it looks like the Tin Man

eager elm
#

theres also an open box one

#

with manufacturer warranty

#

for 140

topaz veldt
#

I'd prob take it

eager elm
#

seems pretty good to me

#

here we go

#

ggs

eager elm
topaz veldt
#

yes

eager elm
#

i think thats the play then probably

brisk jolt
#

could go as low as a sf750

#

was gonna say 600 but thats EOL

topaz veldt
#

I wouldn't

brisk jolt
#

sf850 is only slightly more expensive so id just grab that anyway

eager elm
#

building is gonna be a pain in the ass but whatever

#

ill just man up

brisk jolt
#

as you should

#

@devout ridge even as I click on a monitor review I see the T1

#

even as Im scrolling I see another T1 build
