Make sure he's updates his BIOS to the absolute latest (Microcode changes are a massive deal). Somehow mine was built in 2022 (when the oxidation issues MIGHT have been happening, Intel are dicks and won't tell exactly which ones are affected) and I've had it since it released and it's still alive.

I do use Intel Default Settings and have all the Microcode updates, though.

I still have two years of warranty, so. That's good at least.

Hey just wanted to ask if anyone has some experience with the deepcool AK620. I installed one on my pc after upgrading to a 5700X but I find that it seems to allow the cpu to heat up quickly but then catches it and goes hard for a second then is fine again for an amount of time......

(is this just the characteristic of having a cpu thats' able to pull larger watts?)

I thought I didnt tighten it down enough or something so I gave it a bit of an extra nip up but hasn't changed anything.

Also yes the plastic is definitely off of the cpu cooler I triple checked lel.

And if anything I probably added a bit too much thermal paste (noctua NT-H1)

Also it seems to be fine while playing games and keeps the cpu cool at around the usual 65 degree c ish levels.

you have to know what youre doing to get the cpus to request a reasonable amount of volts for the freq theyre at

my personal 13900KS did 5.9GHz at a pretty low 1.36v compared to the stock settings requesting like 1.574v or something

Real. I still have two years of warranty left on my CPU, so we'll see what happens. Definitely keeping an eye on it. Still pissed off about all of this and for very good reason despite the fact that I haven't ever sent my CPU in or had it completely die. I'm doubly mad since my CPU was produced in 2022 and Intel will give absolutely no indication whether it was affected by the oxidation issue. All we know that it started sometime in 2022 (probably) and was fixed sometime in "early" 2023. Other than that, they won't give any information. So for all I know my CPU got degraded in some way by either oxidation or their stupid MOBO settings (or lack thereof).

iirc there was only a handful of batches with oxisdation and they got most of the cpus quickly returned

intel has made the default mobo settings worse, its not that they dont exist

you can tell the motherboard not to let the cpu request more than 1.4v if you want to

you can also tell it specific svid scenarios that influence loadline settings

and a whole bunch of other things

intel just has terrible load line settings and expectations of vdroop

As far as I can tell the default settings are fine now. Mine doesn't take more than 1.4v and I haven't done anything other than turn on Intel Defaults. But this doesn't even get into the microcode too.

no other issue than intel was way too aggressive clocking 13th and 14th on the high end

then combated that by giving all the cpus a "Safe" vid curve that would at least be stable for the stupid freqs

the short of it is that most of the cpus in existence arent bad enough to be forced to the intel worst case profile

and the fact that its basically the default is just stupid

plain and simple. you should expect your cpus that you binned in the factory to actually be capable of what you binned them to and what their vf curve wants

Yeah hopefully they learned their lesson, because more than likely I'm going with AMD next time. We will see, because likely I won't upgrade until the start of AM6 depending on when that comes out. All I know AMD has promised to support AM5 until 2027 (but if it's anything like previous generation it will likely be longer, even if there is a period where both AM5 & AM6 CPUs are coming out at the same time. My big thing is I just don't want to get into AM5 towards the end. If I'm going with AMD I'm going in at the start of the socket generation since that will give me an upgrade path at the end of life of the socket. At least for my main PC, this isn't as big of deal for other builds, just for what I want to do with my main rig.

Yeah I have a ASUS, Z790-E. If that's the case though I don't know if you really have to do it? I'm on the most recent BIOS (3107) and Intel Default Limits and HWINFO shows that my SA VID is 1.404V and never goes above that from everytime I have checked it.

But I guess it doesn't hurt either as an extra measure.
