Unless they have a bunch of super defective dies, cutting down GB202s is so wasteful with how expensive large dies are getting

pallid marsh

I really thought the 5080 would be a $1000 4090

Yep. Same story in CAD pricing. I'm happy I bought back in November just before prices started to skyrocket.

Is the performance difference from a 2080 to a RX 9060 XT big?

Even at MC, 5070 TI's start at 1K USD

If GB203 was like 450mm2 they could have made a much more compelling 5080

frank zealot

and I'm sorry:

5070 TI at 1000 USD vs
5080 at 1270 USD?

jesus christ, wtf

I paid 825 for mine, as a "premium" model.

frank zealot

I wouldn't pay 30%+ over MSRP for one

#

... why would you buy anything other than the 700$ 9850 bundle?

pallid marsh
#

I'm getting that $599 7800x3d bundle wait nvm only $100 savings

frank zealot

x870 board instead of B650.... same ram, and only 20 bucks more than a 9800?

frank zealot
pallid marsh
#

I thought it was $200 difference I can maths

#

$100 is a small price to pay

frank zealot
#

this ain't bad tho. (The only intel bundle they have lol)

merry stirrup

not bad at all actually

great even, means the ram was only 100$

cosmic gazelle
#

ayo floppa every setting i’ve tried on primaries is either stable for hours or errors in 60 seconds or less… is that normal or is it probably because of the dual rank mismatched dimms

merry stirrup

some ic's behave that way

cosmic gazelle

it makes it easier tbh

merry stirrup

primaries arent important and you should probably do them last in the future

whats the cooling?

cosmic gazelle

i haven’t even touched cpu multiplier yet tho

#

pa120 open air

merry stirrup
#

are you doing manual volts then? or nah

cosmic gazelle
#

yeah

merry stirrup
#

why manual volts on auto ratio

cosmic gazelle
#

motherboard autos 1.31 during avx

merry stirrup
#

lol so you cant even cool stock

#

yeah a delid gonna be required

cosmic gazelle
#

no 1.31 is nowhere near stock on a 4790k this motherboard just overvolts

merry stirrup
#

but also. the motherboard kinda has nothing to do with it

cosmic gazelle
#

it 100% does

#

old motherboard ran 1.19 at same boost

merry stirrup
#

haswell is sick, and the cpu does the voltage controlling

#

the motherboard gives it an input voltage then the cpu delivers it to the cores

#

called FIVR

cosmic gazelle
#

i’m aware

shell void
#

yeah that could be the problem, i just switched to the aorus master silent vbios to test, and im getting ~2720MHz instead of ~2760MHz, probably because the fans are spinning slower than the matrix 800w vbios

cosmic gazelle
#

what’s possible is that the h87 was only doing the stock 4.2 on all core at 1.19 and the z97 does a default boost override to 4.4 and auto voltage regulation doesn’t know what to do so it just chucks a shitload of voltage at it

topaz veldt
#

oh you were on undervolted 800w

merry stirrup
fringe vigil
#

hi

cosmic gazelle
#

but 1.3v is like a normal overclock voltage for the 4790k and i can cool 1.3v barely

merry stirrup
#

something like that probably wotn be named the same

topaz veldt
#

i haven't messed with the bios on this 2nd 5090 TUF OC

cosmic gazelle
merry stirrup
#

ok disable that cause thats an oc then lol

#

effectively anyways

cosmic gazelle
#

it’s been stable and i’m not throttling yet so i’ll deal with that later

merry stirrup
#

fair enough id drop voltage more later if you can, barely able to cool 1b is hardly not throttling

question: if i have, for example, a table with rows like

what is the best way to go about storing a series of historical pricing information so that people can parse it as a csv reasonably easily? im thinking somethin like 30d_price and then its just 30 data points like 1,2,3,4,... is that something that people would be able to intuitively understand

it'd not technically be a csv it would be a tsv (so i can use commas to separate)

From the RM750e review, done by probably the best PSU reviewer out there right now.

If you want my expert opinion, Corsair’s RMx line is among the best in today’s market, so if you want a PSU for the next 5-10 years, I suggest you don’t think of the extra cost and get an RMx ATX v3.1 PSU since besides increased performance you will also get low noise output and increased reliability.

you also don't want plastic melting and sticking onto your fingers

when working w high voltage

but i guarantee you that won't happen with a psu 😂 you'd be long dead before that (and it just won't happen with that voltage and duration)

south shuttle
#

anyways things that keep you alive when you touch a capacitor: the caps bleed out normally (unless it fails which it can or the psu has no bleed built in), insulation, dry skin and if all of this fails (don't rely on dry skin lol) you roll a dice if le powah goes through your heart or not, duration matters.

That's what I might go with when I upgrade (not that specific one but the equivalent). I'm probably not upgrading until they release AM6. I'm waiting until next gen for GPUs which won't come out until 2028 at the latest with how Nvidia is talking and AMD said official support for AM5 will be until at least 2027 (knowing them, longer). So hopefully by the time I upgrade my GPU AM6 will be out. We'll see it's not that big of a deal either way, but I'm hoping it's how it plays out.

# young void Linus kinda valid rn

Yeah like I said in FP chat I am 65% on Linus's side 35% on Luke's side. I'm very new to Linux, I've used a few distros on virtual machines and messed around on Raspberry Pi OS. I get what Luke was saying about the most prompts being Y/N rather than typing a sentence like that, but when you're just trying to do something as simple as installing Steam I would personally just have assumed it was like any other authentication regardless of that. There's been so many things on Linux or Windows that say "This could harm your device" or something similar. I would have never guessed it would be something that bad. But I get where they're both coming from.

young void

#

I have the ITX debuff on my intel build

pure garnet
#

i mean i had a ram fan with my d15s just fine

#

you just angle it

#

airflow is airflow

cosmic gazelle
#

realistically for ddr3 i’d rather just run looser timings than deal with a ram fan

#

not worth my time or money

#

ok it would appear i have discovered a strange quirk in that trfc could go down by a ton but as soon as i increase trefi i have to put it back to where it was before lmao

#

dunno how strict they are on that

pure garnet
#

trfc = time after a refresh command is sent before another command is sent
trefi = time between refresh commands

cosmic gazelle
#

my understanding is that they’re related but i don’t quite understand the whole electrical engineering side of this whole thing lol

pure garnet
#

so yeah your refresh interval probably wasn't too thin you just didn't have low enough temp to hold the charge that long

pure garnet
#

the longer you go without looking at it you probably forget why you're holding it or what it is

#

that's trefi

cosmic gazelle
#

that makes sense so how does trfc fit into this analogy

pure garnet
#

idk how to slot that one in as nice to that one

cosmic gazelle
#

lol fair enough

pure garnet
#

but basically trfc it studies for the quiz

#

more time in trfc is more time wasted on that task specifically

cosmic gazelle
#

good enough lol

pure garnet
#

jedec (default) refresh cycle and interval is designed for basically any environment

#

but usually you can get away with a lot less time spent refreshing

#

<@&750150305383186585> the usual scam again

cosmic gazelle
#

think i might have set twtp too low

#

i just need it to pass 15 minutes so i can go to bed with it running lol

pure garnet
#

also if you ever wanted to touch the daily system, just use the buildzoid timings he has on his patreon

#

gets you 99% of the way there

cosmic gazelle
#

yeah i have an extremely popular kit so that’s probably not a bad idea

#

i’m gpu bound 99% of the time so maybe not now

pure garnet
#

for am5 he makes these pdf files you can get for $10 per ic that covers timings for every speed from 6000-8000

cosmic gazelle
