I have this horrible noise. A few weeks ago I sent my new PC back and RMAed their CPU Fan for a rattling noise. The blowing "wuuuuu" noise sadly still persists. Even if ALL the fans in the PC are off. Which leads me to believe its either: Coil whine for the CPU / mobo or its a thing of the case with the holes of it acting like a flute. Does that sounds senseable?

I absolutely hate when windows wakes itself, installs updates and restarts after I put the system to sleep. Video editing projects i had open, incognito tabs, notepads that hadn't been saved yet, very specifically laid out charts, files, so on and so forth, so much stuff that has been disrupted because MY COMPUTER decided "it's time to install updates now". No. I hate that. I absolutely hate that! It's just like when you try to eject a flash drive and windows says "you can't eject that drive because a program is currently using it." No! Screw you! You stop that program from using the flash drive, because I'm about to remove it! This is not me asking for permission to remove my drive, this is me telling you that I'm about to remove the drive, so stop and programs from accessing it so that I can do so! I absolutely detest the fact that THE COMPUTER decides what's best for it to do and when. I feel like I'm not in control of my own system. I intentionally disabled a service that was responsible for windows updates, and it had the unintended side effect of disrupting automatic firefox tab backups from working so after my computer blue screened just now, it opened the last save from before I made that change which was over a week ago. Losing all my tabs from the last week was the price I paid for trying to stop the machine I built with my own two hands from thinking it knows better than me when it should do things I don't want it to do.

I'm getting so close to just saying screw it to the $140 license I paid to Microsoft back in 2019 for my official windows license. At least with linux, I know with 100% certainty that it will NEVER install anything without me telling it to, let alone it doing it both without asking me and doing it automatically at a time that it decides is best.

Never once in as long as I've been using Windows have updates woken up the PC, installed and rebooted it. Updates in general don't happen without my say so. This is a user problem.

Then again I also can't say what happens if you go weeks without updating and just letting it nag.

I install updates on patch tuesday when they come out and am never bothered when I don't expect it. Never. 20 years.

I put my computer to sleep at night, and when I come back in the morning, the computer is on and running, the uptime in task manager is only a few hours, and when I check the event viewer, it shows that a service having to do with windows updates woke the system and then the system restarted. That's pretty much it.

I only open that menu when I'm trying to figure out why the system updated itself without me telling it to again, so I've got no clue whether it says it was up to date or not. And no, that box is not checked. I'm just tired of all this invasive stuff Microsoft keeps pushing with every patch. I just want to actually feel like I'm in control of my own system again, like it felt back in Win7. Hopefully Linux will be the key to that. It helps that most updates can be installed live, without even having to restart the system on Linux. My main issue is the fact that every time the computer has to reboot, it costs close to an hour of prep time getting all my stuff back into the state it was in before the restart, so having a system that can update without having to restart is gonna be a massive benefit.
