Since the PS2, apparently Sony's system architects have been wise to use separate processors for offloading various tasks, even with the PS4.

The PS4 had a Marvell Soc off-die that did most of the storage and network access functions in the background and when the system was in standby. Increasing it's memory on the Pro model also allowed them to offload more of certain OS-related tasks to it that fit into's purpose in the system.
