I just helped a coworker setup his new LG B5 tv and for some reason his direct tv cable box worked when I first connected it but when I turned it off and back on again either manually or with the remote, there was no signal being detected. I replugged the cable box 5 times and every time it would work on first start up. He never had this issue before on his 7 year old Samsung tv. Cable boxes should just be plug and play right, even on smart tv’s?

Thing is there is a lot of technologies that have long been in development and for a similar general purpose, which mostly leans into the direction of deep learning in some way or ends up being purposed for such, since for efficiency and specific usecases, they make sense.

The analog tensor chips, the chips with reversible circuits, chips soon to come out that use voltages at near inoperable limits of transistors to make their bits randomized, and so on.

In fact, even returning ones besides analog chips would be true trinary stuff, even if those are like... Going to need to be reapproached from scratch or something before they get proper support for once in this day and age.

On one hand, this AI boom has done a lot of good for tech long proposed or sought out to solve efficiency challenges, yet seemed like a stretch. On the other hand, it's... Kind of disappointing it took this soon-to-be-financial-and-ecological disaster of all things to bring them all into relevance, since before they were considered so niche in usecase that almost didn't have any purpose beyond labs if they weren't quantum computing or good for super/cluster computing.

The benefits for these technologies is they might just walk away with enough development and investment to finally put them in the limelight and draw them enough attention to get more on board to find them a lasting purpose.

The drawbacks? This boom ain't no ordinary bubble. Like I and a few others will keep likening it to: it's a black hole that when it collapses may just potentially take everything it. That will have severe consequences upon the industry and if these innovations don't have solid footing, they too will suffer losses and potentially go back to being obscure solutions again for who knows how long.
