Yes, when you install Windows... ensure the drive is 110% unallocated space. I like to use the installer to delete everything on the drive. If I'm still not sure it's wiped, I'll use diskpart to clean the drive.

To be fair, Apple and Motorola (and I think Sony) actually started using the newer standard first. Everyone eventually caught up. Problem is Apple still uses a "proprietary signaling method" (whatever that means) which causes the in-line controls and/or mic to not work in some instances.
