Honestly, I think the "standard" Valve has set so far by just going with the modest of today (Zen 2 for mobile [Steam Deck] and Zen 4 for desktop [Steam Machine]) is actually fine even by today's standards. Being as far back on Haswell is just down to how old the software you keep around is and if you even touch that system at all.

I've had both CPUs and motherboard lose a memory channel, and that results in slot 1-2 or 3-4 dying, aka A1-A2, or B1-B2.

And like I said, you want each kit in their own channel because of internal resistances being different. If you use 2 different sticks in a channel the memory controller gets annoyed as you get 2 different resistances, and that can kill stability.
