Dont need to go crazy with thermalpaste when you're just trying to make it boot. I usually just place the cooler ontop of the CPU with some old, stuck cooler paste if I'm swapping around stuff to check if it boots

Can confirm. I currently use an external USB-C hub with an ASIX-based ethernet controller because the built-in Realtek LAN drivers on my motherboard are shite. They work mostly fine, but result in random intermittent latency spikes when playing certain games or streaming videos from certain sites.
