The Snapdragon ones have limited capabilities, that would only be considered at 60% off sale price, which puts them down around $400 or so. That would make it a Chromebook, but have the gamble that an ARM version of an application may exist. That's reasonable I think at that price point.

I am struggling to use the Mac as a Windows only user since 2005.

I have the 14 MBP, my first observation was it was very heavy and at that weight the 16 makes more sense. But for me I am trying to get away from 16 class as it is too big for where I use it.

In the air, I don't like the screen, I find it offensive for a "ultra premium experience" product.

That said if you want a NEW Mac for cheap, that discount might work, just realize you might need to also budget an external SSD, 256GB is rather small for most users.

I didn't like it's keyboard either, the MBP is a "better" keyboard, but I prefer my Lenovo on initial impression . Mac may need to break in first.

Performance? I don't know honestly, m1 air I didn't like had jerky behavior I also experienced on the M4 iMac in person in store on a 2 day old unit.

I assumed it was just classic "punishment for being too poor for the good products" I asked, was told m5 (MBP) was only slightly better so upgraded to M4 pro since I found that behavior unacceptable.

I have been told post purchase that even though 2 low end apple devices experienced the same behaviors, that users claim they don't experience it (or realize it's doing it)

The 2 HP was because I ordered the OG 32GB HP, then saw insane micro center discount. Was a bit concerned about Lunar lake performance. (Coming from 125w i9 14900HX). So I asked for the best 14's MBP was decided to be the best, decided to buy both and see which i liked better.

The OG HP was supposed to get RTS for refund, but the carrier signed for it instead and dropped it off 💀.
Been using the included pen to see it's usefulness. I like how it writes vs iPad pencil, much better feel. BUTT windows (maybe HP) struggles with palm rejection when writing on the screen.

Lenovo ran the 14900HX HARD in performance mode over 150w and ran at 102C. Then a fan got weak, and the bios update (to help stabilize 14th gen) had too slow of a fan ramp, so HW info was logging 108C before black screen. In auto mode it also did this.

In quiet mode it didn't get as hot, but had stability issues (reduced voltage vs launch bios)

Lenovo finally sent someone out to replace the fan, they broke a ribbon cable (they only come with the parts ordered) which broke the power light.

Lenovo redid their software now it doesn't change instantly with the keyboard shortcut and doesn't show on screen all the time. Still was having stability issues. And requested they come fix the cable they broke so I could see the mode based on light.

2nd repair guy arrived 2hrs late, and was getting grilled about needing to ev at the job after me within 5 minutes of his arrival to me. so I was working the desk while he worked on it unsupervised. He replaced the motherboard, did the liquid metal and the power button. Gave it back and said it works.
I booted and immediately realized the power button didn't fix the issue, and was unable to verify the broken cable was replaced.

3rd tech (yet another new guy) came to disassemble it completely yet again to replace the power button again ... Realized last guy broke a bunch of clips, removed the broken ribbon (didn't replace it) smeared LM EVERYWHERE! didn't hook up the headphone jack sub board. And we looked over the motherboard together. And noticed the broken cable was for the screen LED, not the power button LED (Soo no idea why it isn't working)

He said send it to Depot to get it fixed, deposit "aims for 7-10 business days" users report 3-6 months sometimes.

The new (reused/refirb) motherboard has a WAYYY better chip way less voltage and heat to hot WAYY higher clocks (5800 has been seen!). Sadly the GPU die isn't as good, and has memory errors.
