look at the curve and try to get comfortable with what its actually doing. you're setting how fast the fans should spin at various temperatures. If you run a benchmark for 10 minutes, the fans are sitting at x RPM or PWM%, lower that max and see if you can keep the temps within normal ranges.

The lower you can make the maximum, the lower the rest of the curve leading up to it can be.

I've found its usually pretty easy and less bothersome to the ears to set a flat "curve" before something like 80-85c then ramp from there. If you can find that point at which the CPU tends to level off at temp wise, you can configure the curve to be flat until around that point.

I literally just reinstalled my entire OS clean slate less than two months ago, so probably not anything file or driver related. My current course of action is gonna be PSU swap, if that doesn't fix it, memtest and memory swap, after that, CPU investigation? My AIO is five years old so it could be like an air bubble causing CPU temps to instantaneously spike and cause a shutdown, idk. I've got a 3600 to swap in to test with if need be. After that, no idea.

I always check the event viewer, and it never tells me anything useful. Before each shutdown, there's like five minutes of no events. Then there's all of the events for the actual startup, and then it goes back to nothing useful.

I ran Unigine superposition a couple times with different settings to see if that would cause a shutdown, and it handled it just fine. So I can probably consider that the GPU stress test done. CPU stress tests I'll have to research. Memory I have memtest86. Not sure about PSU stress tests. But I'll do some research, thanks 👍

Ehh, actually now that you say that. I tried monitoring gpu power draw but I could get my overlay to appear in the actual benchmark so I couldn't do it. So I'll look for some other benchmarks that have draw monitoring compatibility and redo that as well. It's gonna be a busy week, but I just want this fixed.

reran the test again with a hwinfo graph running, tgp for the GPU was consistently around 350, which is above the RX6950XT's advertised rating of 335. Temps were 95 for the entire run (maybe i need to open my card up and do a dust blowout + repaste...). Still no crash. That enough to consider the GPU tested?

@edgy laurel So this is good - B&H has a 5090 Master Ice open box... for $2939. Its marked down from the original $2999 but now they have "New" at $2649 just out of stock. So I hit them up... they adjusted it to $2799. I was like bros, why would I pay $150 more than what you have on your website for a new one, for an open box one? LOL dumb.

so are all MAC applications paid? i tried to get an unzip application, and even when i looked online and not in the app store, it directed to the app store as a "free app" but the feature needed was paywalled.

is this what i should expect from MAC OS in general? everything a subscription, or a paid app that you cant get a refund later if they chose to stop supporting/ updating?

i like the battery life of Lunar Lake, buttt the lack of multicore is a much bigger issue than I expected on windows. tempted to go with an h- series (140T iGPU) but a bit concerned the battery life will be vastly inferior to Lunar Lake.

maybe i should look into AMD? seems like LL is #1. then its Arrow Lake and AMD?
