it's like me in extraction shooters
gear fear
how is it almost 2026
Part of a project working on.
Dashboards:
xbox 360 og (blades)
Xbkx 360 Kinect
WiiU
Wii
Ps2 (unofficial)
It’s not perfect designs as these are template’s that’ll improve over time
Used to be a cop
hmm hmm
Who did? 👀
Curious things jerrys
I’m confused too 🤦🏽🤣
He's just always got something nice to say toward me so curious
Either way I hope the rest of you have a good one few more errands to crush out during these fun timess
Xiaomi Mi Box S 3rd gen only mentions google cast, nothing about miracast. Neither Shields either. Both only list Chrome cast.
Ooh that’s so cool
im kind of curious is there any non standing desks that are like steel labs mangus pro ?
so just the amount of options metal, heavy duty and also stuff
tbh i dont need a desk i got a odk im literally just curious
It’s part of “Game OS”
It’s a app that’s a lib manger and a she’ll replacement, semi os.
The idea is to turn PC’s into games consoles whete users have full controll 👀
So many settings to choose from
Some features inc:
- guide menu
- game store (addons like kodi)
- ach
- api key support for accounts
- auto finds games, apps, Roms and media
Aye what’s that? 👀
its a l shaped desk i got from amazon
i got the one without monitor riser basically im gonna get clip on peg board and sound panels what are clip on
im gonna see what its weight is like once its put together because my pc will go ontop
@edgy laurel plex works for file playback. I am now a Plex lover.
my plan is desk l shaped pc setup and music setup on desk, then on other side of l shaped desk will be at the end of my bed a media centre with my 4k 65 inch mini led tv
which i got for around 769 pound
Any other devices y'all can think of , or have experience with that support Miracast 2.0 (4k60hz) looked into Shield and Mi Box S and neither of them do.
i see Yinker has one, they say low latency but IDK what their definition of "low" is. a lot of cheap ones have audio sync issues as well.
@shell void I think the Monitor people may be right, idk if Dolby Vision is that good
My standard Interstellar HDR rip with DTM looks fucking awesome
Ooh nice
Plex is just the best
Glad it works, bad part is that I now have to teach my roommates how to use a new app
Roommates or Chimps? the world may never know
Oof 😅
we have 3 remotes for the TV which I feel like is pretty decent, but they are scared of it
How Asian of you
dont you have to pay for it
yeah, though there used to be a lifetime option. not sure anymore
yeah the only time i’ve appreciated it is when watching The Witcher, and Wednesday on Netflix
they do a good job with the DV masters for Netflix Originals
doesn't seem to be as bright
def won’t be
@topaz veldt i just started the video. i'm already pissed and no ones left yet. if you ran a 6.20 earlier why you gotta be a little bitch
even my DV stuff mastered for 4000 nits looks dim
I guess I need to start mastering my own shit
bro what
that's right
bro knows a guy with the raws
You have to pay for Plex?
this tron legacy rips looks good though so far
if you wanna transcode yuh
yall good at NAS?
but you don't want to most times
if you want hardware transcoding, yes. otherwise no
got some high quality rips going
DAMN all local?
You downloading Linux isos?
yeah small b lol
Big b would be wild
this is just streaming to the firestick rn
how much hardware do you need for software encode.
a cpu
5 gig symmetrical anyone?
well yeah lol, but how powerful? i7 920? orrr
my bad its 3 gig
pretty cheap
sweet I have my X58 1st generation i7 banging around here somewhere, i also have a 1950x rig too
it might take a little while to transcode, but it'll do it
cheaper than our copper 2gig
oh what do you need for on the fly? if you are going from 4k 150Mb/s to lower shouldnt need much right? or is it more like the hardware converting the formats to one a device can use? i amagine if you are just pulling raw file, there is no CPU load?
what kind of file are you streaming where it's 150Mbps?
lossless blu-ray
If the target device can stream the file directly, there's basically zero CPU load, yeah
Can’t wait for another 2 gigabit fiber provider next year. Two fiber providers available here next year
If it's a different resolution, or if a different format is required, then the CPU has to step in to transcode on the fly
I wonder if a third fiber provider can enter the city
Market saturation could be a concern though
Considering the current solo provider is $105 for 5mbps .., yes that right .. I wish
They really should have a map so you can know where to move to!
There’s a little over 10,000 homes in this city. 3 fiber providers could work but it would be tight
Competition is always good for the consumer . Unless they are illegally price fixing!
quick sync worth it or no?
for anthing video related, 1000% yes
Do it
Maybe Verizon could expand to here
It will be very interesting to see where this goes
so no zen 5 🙁 darn
we are
Actually wait for black friday
That's how I have 2.5gb fiber for 43 cad a month
ISPs actually have black friday deals
maybe Ultra 5 225? Could go raptor lake, maybe i3 14100 or i5 14500 (ecc)?
Also yeah
But if you have too many fiber companies in an area then there’s less take rate
The amount of homes in the area can actually be a limiting factor
i dont think quantum does that ill be fine
gotta schedule it probably next month though cause they dont have any appropriate jtimes rn
ultra series has a great iGPU with a fantastic media engine
a lot of the lga 1851 boards have usb c only for display out though
So like Company A could take 3,000 homes. Company B could take another 3,000 homes. Company C could take another 3,000 or so
its server
Was the fiber buildout worth it for just 3,000 homes?
still something to be aware of for initial setup
pop in your main rigs gpu for the setup call it good
just found out H.266 was a thing lol
Wasn't this just announced
Ehhh maybe that is AV2
vcc? 2020 says wikipedia
av2 i think was just announced, and it has a licencing fee or something
LOL
hey now that our shit is good pay for it
lol
development and existence is one thing, adoption is another.
So Samsung is never going to have it
eh, HEVC is licensed and thats everywhere
fairs
all my money gotta go to computer itself not computer software
Right? And there's no way that car is in the same class as mullet
I wanted to see them hit the scales afterwards
Yes
Ehhhh.
For a 10,524 home city idk
Two fiber providers is ideal though for sure
If it was like a 50,000-100,000 home city though then yes three fiber providers is easily economical. Quicker return on investment (ROI)
6400 memory good for Arrowlake? or can i go lower?
way higher
i think theres a 7200 2x16 kit for as cheap as the other cheapest kits, get thtat
"Up to DDR5 6400 MT/s"
if you have a z890 motherboard it dont mattah
the memory controller is rated for 6400 but 95% of cpus run 8000+
if not z890 then y eah get the 6400 kit
mine just barely boots 9000 and floppa dailies 9000 on a better chip
this is true
and thats being generous to the ones that dont
B860 has memory overclocking, so go higher?
seems like most top out somewhere in the 8600-9266ish area with non ckd a die
whats the use case for this thing
its a server but i mean xmp at 7200 is pretty fool proof
yeah i'd just buy a good xmp kit then
im hard pressed in between using my 13900ks as a server or buying a 10400
if not jedec ecc on w880?
yeah 2 routes here lol
just normal good xmp or like full actual workstation-ish grade
\13900ks is more expensive but like literally some of the best for server hosting so idk
yeah but then i cant sell you the board and get a cheapo 12700k for my sister
this is the predicament
i mean i can still buy the 12700k ig but 🙄 you get it
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nGtYMC good start?
Part List - Intel Core Ultra 5 225
can probably find a z890 board on ebay thats itx for same price or less , psu is WILD
whole thing wild hold on
why? its only $200, or have PSU fallen from teh 400-500 i got used to 0.0
your system will draw less than 100w more than not
how long has it been since you looked at PC parts? 10, 15 years?
that psu is probably the weirdest unit i've seen
last build was 1950x /1080 ti full setup $6k. woudl be over $15K to do teh same level of components 0.0
why is it so low capacity for how overbuilt it is
I’m kinda glad the monopolistic ISP is finally upgrading their network more in our area
ahh yeah i only looking for top efficency,
Part List - Intel Core Ultra 5 225
yeah i wanted to stay "in teh curve" as much as possible
I think the city gave them like $40,000,000 in total in the last 20 years of them being a monopoly
you overshot by a fucking light year then
psus are most efficient at 80%(ish) load
does that motherboard have Thundrbolt 45/5?
the money you save from efficiency gains on that unit will be made up in 30 years
realistically no psu is gonna sit in the best efficiency band during idle
and titanium vs gold is what, 4% more?
it has a single TB4
A be quiet 750W for $180 is a horrible deal
there aren't any non-apple products with TB5 as of now afaik
why are we lying it has two
Sorry i was still looking at his original list
oh my bad
works yeah lol
I dunno if they do outside of qualifying...
Why won’t my non rgb and rgb 2x8 ram kits run together at above 3200mhz I’ve adjusted the fclk too. Tried going at 3466 dram freq + 1733fclk. I’m
Well aware I won’t hit 3600 do I just have to bite the bullet and scale down
HALF the price
That is indeed what happens when you mix ram kits
i assume since you are recomending it, AsRock is back to its good x79 exstreme 11 days?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YcjkVF i'd do something like this personally
Part List - Intel Core Ultra 5 225
Or a slightly better unit with a longer warranty for still less than $120 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/JPMMnQ/corsair-rm750x-2024-750-w-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-cp-9020285-na
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/hqQ2h7
if we are big ballers id buy this as a nas/server
Part List - Intel Core Ultra 5 245K
ahh im used to non modular 1000w basic gold being $349... lol
the CKD is literally just cause its cheap enough to justify
I have at no point recommended anything during the course of this conversation, though floppa has
How the fuck are you used to that
Man hasn't bought computer parts in 15 years
245K is only 20$ more than the 225 or whatever
yeah need 4 but obvisouly TB5 is backward compatable
i assume since you are recomending it, AsRock is back to its good x79 exstreme 11 days?
Okay but I did all of the research, they’re the exact same make/model/speeds/timings/clock cycles etc… literally the only difference is one set has rgb and the other doesn’t. Should still be fine at 3200 in your opinion or not worth?
Z890 Nova is a mini version of my board, should do 9K plus
core ultra my 🐐
is there a reason for teh ram downgrade, liek other than value?
yeah, 8800 isn't something every chip will do
and i don't take you as a ram tuning type
8400 CKD is only 300 and its 2x24
wait 8400 for NAS?
may as well bro is a baller shoulda seen the OG list
and ram is so overpriced that high speed kits are as cheap if not cheaper than 6k's
i dont think so
would you actually OC it tho? isnt teh point liek stability and efficency?
i am a fucking freak wrong person to ask
245K is better for chances at high mem speed
that was umm like right before threadripper 2k came out
locked chips cant change SA or anything
personally if i was building a server id just run it at jedec
What is this bastardised list, the ram has RGB and is more expensive per GB and that PSU is questionable (not the quality, but the company behind it)
that is the baller list
montech reputable enough, the psu is good thats what matters
what on earth is going on

it was my OG NAS build list board back in teh day because of that built in LSI
good question
ah yes $/gb
watching some guy build an overkill nas and encourage it
the defining factor of memory quality
fuck w/ it heavy
not that i picked that kit because it was the cheapest with good primaries
i mean i could do it, and have, but you are right, i wont. and my power is variable soo can cause stable to become unstable

You really are old
You should mention bit flip and data corruption and the necessity for ECC
like this is literally a list for you
ahhh yeah because bin! better bin becuse power vs ghz
no
why are we complaining about the montech then linking an rme btw mr ethan
Thats basically my plex server but its a 265K and Corsair SF1000
because locked chips cant change their sa voltage
worse unit moment fr
SA is system agent and very important for memory speeds
id say above 8k w/out changing sa volts is a pipe dream
and even then prolly still nah
oh yeah was it 8800 on a 225f
my and Linus had teh same "1st balling rig" lol X58 BBY!
Pro tip - if you are building a system to store data don't OC the memory
'no oc it like crazy
i think i mentioned that in the first post
PLEASE
w880 and 6400 jedec ecc sounds good to me
itx w880 tho? yeesh
where’s the w series lover
I'd prob go 6548Y dual with 512GB ECC
@shell void come preach your love for jedec ecc
looking at like 700$ for the board
would
YOU WAHT
i asked "maybe Ultra 5 225? Could go raptor lake, maybe i3 14100 or i5 14500 (ecc)?" https://discordapp.com/channels/375436620578684930/381193840159358976/1437577033847930931
bones for NAS
Why do I believe we're going to hear about NAS for like 8 days now
W680 is still a lot of money
🪵
he likes doing his mad scientist research for several days at a time and making zero decisions
Skill issue move to canada
there is no w680 on ebay thats itx
no i already have a plan, but just need some guidance. ans a set goal without creep, learned from the laptop "party"
ohhh its not like rzn where if it supports you can just chuck it in?
doesnt ddr5 have "ecc lite"
thats on everything though
on die ecc doesn't work like real ecc
yeah
n, still also up to the board
my ddr3 1600 woudl like ot talk to you
cheapest w880 board i see is $450 so i'd probably just do non ecc
asrock i think is the only manu that bothered with ecc support on am4
everything ddr5 bro
Any NAS that doesn't have OOB access is unserious
Hey chat
okay so ECC yes or no for NAS?
on consumer boards***
its not economical in reality but do whatever you want mane 😭
Memory is not economical right now, but your NAS should not be DDR5
hmm, skip intel and go Ryzen for ECC and give up Quick Sync?
your nas should be ddr5 because fast
Thanks Sam Altman
sounds like a terrible idea
SK Hynix needs to make some more rams
2 channel DDR5 is slower than 12 channel DDR4
Ok
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jKRXjn i would just do this and not worry about ram overclocking
Part List - Intel Core Ultra 5 225
2 channel ddr5 draws less power than anything with 12 channels
or swap to the b860 to save another 50
No.1 Intel shill
It draws a lot less power when its powered off because of bit flip
i was honing in on arrow lake since .. .in therory wont need dGPU for transcode?
yeah id do this
NAS don't transcode
Out Of Box, maybes
Out of band
Ok
tripl echannel DDR3 was WILD when ddr fiorst launched and people were still buying single 4GB sticks!
can't wait to make 265K a nas build fr fr
ok
🤬🤬🤬
But why tho
what? a NAS doesn't transcode
what if i get bored and want to blow up my nas
okay let me start over then
what if i upgrade my nas then have an extra rig
DIMMs aren't waterblocked, lame
id want it to be koverclockable
Snails hardware be vast
Goal
Hello,
I currently have ~62TB of storage among 25 drives. I want to build a NAS for Christmas to protect my data and have finally all organized.
I would like to have the option to stream to my phone or TV at 200Mb/s bitrate (148 being UHD Blu-ray lossless IIRC), 10-BIT, HDR10/Dolby Vision, H.264/ H.265 wirelessly.
If possible, I would also like to have my Steam, EA, Battle.net, Games stored on the drive, so I don’t have to install/uninstall weekly. I would like to step away from cloud storage eventually. I add 8-16TB per year depending on life.
Intel fkin sucks so
Buy a synology or qnap
you motherfucker
is this pent up rage about eight k
Intel GPUs are poggers, B990 when
Lol
I mean it's good value for a nas
im making a meme just for this ufcky ou
oh shit really?? cheaper than DITY finally?
No this is “Mac makes rage bait comments about hardware he’s currently running”
I wasn’t paying attention, it’s for a nas?
No but you don't sound experienced enough to DIY it personally
phone
200 Mb/s HDR10 DV
:(
That was a joke. Don't buy a Synology or qnap
Fuckin Ngreedia
Yeah
🆗
yeah but you still have shit memory
ive built 6 rigs... new to "performance" laptops tho
yeah well your cpu is slower so womp womp
no its not man 💀

arent you on your 14900k thats at stock settings 💀
in other words "nuh uh"
no why tf would I do that
10% of success of building a nas is plugging shit in - the other 90% of success is knowing how to set up the data
#1 is this achievable? #2 so what do i build? https://discordapp.com/channels/375436620578684930/381193840159358976/1437590879891230800
TC2 mfs when I don’t want to waste money on a platform that’s slower than previous gen
cheaper, no.
Easier in general? yes
i thought you returned the x3d my bad
Isn't your 14900k deged?
I did
my 13900KS is on the IMC
no?
okay then my cpu is faster than yours in games
last i looked they were about 4X-8x what they shoudl cost considering closed eco system and hardware
Part List - Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF, Arc B580
its faster than my 7600 13900ks 5.9 config
You are like 12-16x more likely to have a worse performing DIY nas than my $800 Synology
your gpu isn’t tho so WOMP
yeah but at 1440p theyre pretty close WOMP
ur high asf
why we are building it with teh collective input of teh LTT gang
He's in the PNW so probably
we are stupid
go small mobo, we need space for drives
im saying if you play X game on our two rigs the performance will be similar because of the resolution difference between the rigs
You act like putting an engine in a car makes it fast. Completely ignoring the fact that it needs to be tuned.
Boy it's a fucking nas, get a bigger case.
yeah mac and i are returned 9800x3d twins
“My car is actually as fast as yours as long as I’m running an eighth mile and you’re going a half mile”
this might be true
You won't even find a case that uses excess motherboard space for drives
right but that diffrent than not having enough engine to start with, that polish, all you need is good bones
youre upset that i can make a valid comparison and say i have a faster gaming cpu
i believe the 5090 would still gap the 5070Ti in most situations
limited space for it unleess i want in ON my bed
yeah I’m super upset
yes
As someone who has made a career out of cloud-scale storage architecture.... "yeah ok dude'
better explanation above
Mac when play val
Skill issue
I did quite a bit over the weekend
so bad bones ton of polish is better than good bones with polish over time?
96sqft issue 😛
I could build a faster/more resilient storage platform on a few Raspis than you can with $1000, yes
awesome .... sooooo
The smallest you're getting is a Matx, an ITX only has one pcie slot
Soooo don't DIY a NAS on a budget unless you want to lose data
And you'll be needing an HBA if you want all those drives connected
But what if I wanna
is there a way to filter out cases on pcpartpicker by max case dimensions
No
okay ill post teh whole thing :? i was trying to break it down into manageable pieces
who said budget???
What experience do you have with zfs and linux
but yeah as soon as there’s a new cpu worth buying I’ll buy one
You are talking about i5s dude
im just buying stuff for oc
did the mpower ever come out in the us
until then idgaf I think my computer is fast enough?
nah nah make it faster
FUCK no
No
at the rate 60 series is coming out, it seems I am very likely to be skipping a perhaps zen +6%
nah i think we have to import it or use b850m force
does it need more? sounded liek no from teh feeder questions
you NEED another 5090
yeah i don't regret the ocf then
Only by internal/external volume
im not putting that ugly thing in my pc
International volume? What's national volume?
There's a reason I am running 6242Rs for my NAS....
that makes the ocf look stunning
good luck finding it though, theyre all out of stock
floppa flaming me cause I don’t want to play termination RNG simulator
Your enterprise work is blinding you from what a simple home server needs to be
like dude didn’t completely give up on RPL and buy ARL
9k worked in a try
for the same reason lmao
get ready for the wall
my cpu blew up 😭
im running xmp on my 2 dimm oc board too it's okay mac
sorry in advance
They can't do national yet
Hello,
I currently have ~62TB of storage among 25 drives.
What RAID level is recommended? Raid6? Software or hardware card (do we still use these I believe LSI cards??)? What OS makes sense?
Would I need transcoding on the fly abilities? How do subtitles work? Are WD Gold 24TB still the gold (lol) standard for speed and reliability? Any other Recommended drives? Maybe Seagate 24TB IronWolf Pro?
Is All SSD an option? What kind of performance hit is the recommended Riad?
I have zero networking at my house currently. Is USB4 transfer an option if I want to quickly transfer 140GB file for use away from home?
Any prebuilt devices that meet this goal? Size is a consideration, secondary is power consumption, I don’t want it so low it can’t do what’s necessary, but also don’t want 7980XE at 365w, if you know what I mean lol.
With a little direction I should be able to build a cart for review. I would like to order this week if possible, so I am not stuck building over winter vacation.
IM TRYING TO RAGE BAIT HERE
dw 7600 cracked tune coming soon cause floppa rage bait
dw my 7600 tune still gaps
No its not - I am not ignoring the fact that you can obsess over hardware all you want but if you have ZERO idea about what filesystem and architecture you're running its completely useless -- entire Synology/QNAP
smoke his crappy lego son
there you goal: Goal, and questions
We're talking about a Network Attached Storage without any network
I bought the 14900k to have fun with and then just found out the platform is completely miserable so
Dead on arrival, done
well we can build a network. last night brief discussion was NAS is better than DAS long term since NAS can DAS, but DAS cant NAS

honestly after i hit 8000 on the tomahawk i kinda lost interest in messing with my stuff as hard

dw if this $2K Trump stimmy hits we going X870 + 9800X3D at 8400
You have literally mentioned approximately zero times anything about a filesystem or OS - like bro just google we're not your google
bro this is the realest sentence ive read
What do y'all use NASs for
(i would buy nvl)
me and my roommates are buying a sauna from Costco for our balcony
trump stimmy x870e apex and 9800x3d yeah
Data ya silly goose
i would be chilling
linux iso's
torrenting and Plex
59 45 52 @turbid locust see u then
i don't have any
But like just stream movies
You're obsessing over things that don't matter right now.
i assume TruNas
OK Ethan
you're gonna want HexOS
So you are between NAS and DAS with TrueNAS? Do you understand the conflict here
but when I was 22-23, having a NAS and running XBMC / Subsonic was the coolest shit ever
... no one said DAS omgzzz
my 80$ ddr4 server with ECC:
No but seriously what's the point just stream movies
all i want is NAS with a direct connect option that can do 4GB/s over a wire
the humble broadwell workstation
Give up on the usb transfer thing. Just get a portable SSD for your mobile needs
4GB/s? dafuq
if you only knew lol
the next one is only 50$ and STILL supports my sickass ecc
all 64+TB 0.0
What in the fuvk
LOL you want 4 Gigabytes per second over a wire?
and its comet lake
Your drives can't even do even remotely near that speed
5nail I got a quick question for you, do you know why Plex says it can stream in a bitrate higher than the bitrate of the file? Like what's the point in that
What are you smoking
Now you are starting to see the foolery here
This guy and his neverending impossible requirements and no real, professional use case
Nah nvme SSD NAS
yes you asked wahy NAS without network and i explained last night discussion, ..... i never said "actually lets build a DAS" 😵💫
Movies, pictures, games just accessing anything something that reminds you of somone ya lost, pic of a dog, video of a family member in their prime who knows, saved password or file for x thing. Ones imagination is the limit
Yes but your foolery wasn't helping and now everyone's confused
he's been smoking it for a week now, its been a trip
movie streaming is often low quality + you have to pay for it. TrueNas also does my own personal iCloud backup it's pretty nice to have
yeah my TB4 can do that rn
You're not building an NVMe "NAS" that does 4 GB/s lol
OK then you have the answers lol
are you planning to deploy 50gbps networking?
I want to use it for storage for older games
How many photos do y'all take that you need a NAS
with no parity overhead lol
Forget about the network. All that needs a couple cables and a switch
Gotta get that QSFP and SFP+
I have like 50 photos on my phone in total
a 50 gigabit switch bruv
My lady has filled google unfortunately so had to move it over i have a few hundred but she has thousandss
What cables do you recommend for 4 GB/s
streaming has gone to shit over the last few years
Your drives can't. Your drives won't even saturate a gigabit
If you stalked more people you would have more
it's super nice for accessing photos and videos across devices easily, otherwise I would need to send emails everytime
Like its kinda ridiculous but I get itt
Hey now
what he wants, and what I joked about when I linked over the weekend, is one of those overpriced disk towers that just have a TB plug on the back.
100gbit switches are like thousands of dollars
no over a USB cable. not Cat5
you don't NAS over USB
They are important
Im just the backup guy xD doing my part
the n in nas means network
no one is catching on. he doesn't want a nas
Have you researched... like... at all... about RAID performance
My own personal tech support
As I said, your foolery isn't helping. Try actually helping and explaining things instead of going around in circles mocking them with everything they say
Like the only photos I have on my phone is me looking grumpy for no reason at graduation when my friend forced to take photos
.... we haven't gotten to drives yet 😈😈
i bet that stuff is so expensive rn
You don't get to use my word and pretend to be a professional Ethanm
it was so bad looking
it was already pricey pre spike
I didn't go to my graduation I just had them mail my shit to me
are you going to build on Threadripper / EPYC / XEON with SAS Flash Storage?
explaining things does nothing, he just rants on and on about these unrealistic requirements for no reason. please understand its been a full week, many people have tried to be reasonable.
Have you been here for the last oh... 9 days? This person has wasted, collectively, maybe 90 hours of peoples time and now he wants 62+TB of NAS with no network and 4 GB/s transfers and small and is looking at i5's
Buy S8550-6Q2C Enterprise Core Switch on FS.com, 6x 40Gb QSFP+, 2x 100G QSFP28. Support MLAG, MPLS, VXLAN-EVPN and OSPF for advanced networking.
I mean I paid for it might as well go
QSFP28 for the win
What he wants is this, but maybe with SSD's and TB4.
Just a ton of storage, and a simple TB Type C plug.
ohay lets try again slowly for those that are struggling. i am build a (whatever box taht can do what i asked). since wifi is slower than a cable, i would like the option to move 150GB quickly over TB4/USB4. since it will be faster than wifi. @topaz veldt is everyone tracking now?
Quit being an idiot for a moment
Forget about tb4, forget about any USB connection.
Unless you spend 20k on fucking kioxia ssds you're not saturating any high speed connection.
And to pretend that RAID6 doesn't have a DOUBLE WRITE PENALTY
Blocking you bud, enjoy the abyss
i totally have teh hardware to do this 😛
i'm sure he'd be ok if it was just striped
You're the one struggling. Stop it.
You won't be using wifi or a USB cable
The Intelligent PON fiber nodes on the pole has Remote OLT and 2x 100 GbE QSFP28 ports for network uplink
you're literally putting together word salad. Nothing you've said is even remotely logical.
Congratulations, you don't know what you're doing.
I don't have the patience for 900 questions with no research and then be told I am struggling
No cable speed is going to matter when you're pulling from a handful of hard drives
^
You don't understand that underyling data architecture matters... you are not getting 4 GB/s with TB9 on hard drives.
Fun Fact:
A build with 10gbps networking can move 150GB of data in a little over 2 minutes. (Assuming your storage can keep up)
If that's not fast enough, you need to go highly specialized.
Also: No NAS in existence uses USB / Thunderbolt as an interface.
we arent doing a 10 gig build in an RV
why
Also what an insane baseline requirement - 4 GB/s
so instead were doing 100 gbit in an rv
I very much understand that, and am trying to explain it in a way they might understand better
10gbit is actually VERY accessible today. Trying for 50+ is not.
They won't, they don't, and they have spent -1408147147 units of effort in trying to, otherwise we wouldn't be here.. AGAIN. We just did this for laptops for like 7 days
we can reed at raw 2.3 GB/s id we use spinning platters
"Welcome back to Linus Tech Tips, and today we put a whole server rack in my wife's minivan!"
how many fucking HDDs do you plan to put into this box?
Except I have buddies with 10 Gbps networking who cannot get anywhere near that in terms of throughput due to inherent design considerations
proably 10
What fucking hard drives are reading at 2.3GB/s???
why do we need tb4 for a 4k bluray over jellyfin?
Even a sata SSD only does half a gig
it's around 128Mbps which is doable even on gigabit
I am glad you are all starting to see the ridiculousness
do you think Mbps = MB/s?
and you're worried about the 10gb networking being a problem in an RV?
You're so far beyond the fuckin' pale
Megabits per second is different from Megabytes per second.
6 SATA SSDs in RAID6 do like 200 MB/s
Gotta know the difference
One that the head spins so fast that it turns into a helicopter
*in the best conditions
Good consumer sata ssds are hardly made
i've been onto this since day 1
Kool, stop being stupid, and just buy one of these and call it a fuckin' day for yourself:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1773205-REG/asustor_fs6712x_flashstor_12_pro_12_bay.html
Its exhausting dude
Also dude has zero network and pretends he needs some ultra fast access networked disk storage
10 minutes into class and I wanna get the fk out and get some wa’er
Like ... its constant "Buying my first car I want something with a V12 and gets 30 mpg"
Hey I want something with a v12 and 30 mpg
Dude "needs" a minimum of 40gbps networking to function.
Dude needs to realize he has no clue what the fuck he's talking about
That would be great
man wants a Chiron but needs a corolla
They cant differentiate want and needs
I require 50mpg on that vehicle. Make it happen.
That's easy just always drive down hill
I would love 40 gigabit networking tbh
But then says "Theres no budget" but also "I am looking at i5"
the moment I saw the immersive Dolby Vision/ HDR mobile experience and nit requirements, the flags got set
fuel injectors sending a light mist in the chamber
I mean 30mpg isn't impossible with a hybrid
no budget
Lives in a trailer
I think we should get them off at something with a rotary engine… He’ll have plenty of problems
Now you are seeing the light
Oh god kool is STILL going?
has no network
Thinks setting up a switch and 3 cables is hard
kool and the gang
Talking about 3000$+ of networking gear alone to function
I mean Peyton don't you live in trailer
Fancy trailer*
manufactured home but nicer than an actual trailer
now he requires 4GB/s minimum transfer speeds to his NAS on HDDs
I also have money
Aren't you unemployed
For their actual needs that they don't realise yet... A couple hundred dollars in network at most
right? a pair of 10gbit nics isn't that complicated, and a small 10gbit switch? ezpz
Why would you build a NAS that can do 4GB/s via some sort of TB4 cable but then is 1 gbps
more waays to have money than just working
Nah that's you
because you have the brainpower to think you need a NAS that does 4GB/s
But you don't need 10 Gbps with like 6 spindles in raidz2... it'll do 200 MB/s
A single gigabit is going to be enough unless they spend mega bucks on drives
I got rejected by Burger King
Lmao
thats sad
buy a premade NAS box from like QNAP or something idk
EXACTLY
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1773205-REG/asustor_fs6712x_flashstor_12_pro_12_bay.html
If you need all the speed? Just fuckin' buy this
Do you have a food handler permit?
at their supposed storage needs they're gonna have like 6 ~28tb exos from serverpartsdeals or something
that shit won't be moving anything at any insane speed
Or dude was just trying to say I wasn't a good fit nicely
No
My sister said I don't need one for fast food
Maybe they don't like worms
speaking of, when the did drives get to be $13+ per drive, I swear they were like $8 per TB a while ago
Ngl I’m gonna go see if I can get networking certifications
Would help me get a job in telecommunications
Again, so now that we've pretended like I am cutting people short... this entire conversation is so insulting and lacks any investment in the context of anything
"overqualified" because you have indicated some desire to find a better job and not stay there forever
Here in the states you do
I kinda gave up half way through studying for my CCNA
You just need to be supervised
Back then was a night auditor though mehhh days
Cisco Certified Nutella Angler
I kinda realized I don't think there's many positions open for a 16 year old with a CCNA
I forgot your not 18
Here's a tip
You won't be 16 by the time you finish that CCNA
Kids out of high school and college with CCNA generally don't make the cut
i believe level 1 said it was bottle necked no? 8TB m.2 still the biggest you can get? that will be just enough for 2026 if we are CAREFUL
I started studying this time last year lol
Its a nice show of dedication but lacks any practical experience
Yeah I realized that part
And I don't exactly want to go into IT or networking
What the fuck are you storing when you live in a trailer?
Someone needs better data management
"Transfer at 4 GB/s"
"No write speed gain" lol
At least snails honest
Brutally, but honest
i like my trailer, i go camping every weekend and another 4 months out of the year, didn't make sense to rent when you are only there 1/2 the year.
It’s nice to have knowledge of networking but hands-on work is important
dude what are you doing to have 8tb of stuff you need backed up per year
10gbit networking is slower than NVME Drives can move data, sure.
What's your point. You don't need faster than that.
are you taking a live recording with a gopro all day every day?
I would (and have) hire an enthusiastic homelabber over someone with a CCNA out of highschool/college
Ok, that kind of makes sense.... Sounds like you need a bigger one though.
But still, what in the fuck are you storing? The world's corn archives?
Ok what about a homelab and a CCNA
wifi 7 no? that good for 2.4-3.9 according to revioews.
It'd depend on how complex the homelab is
you're 1000% missing the point
What the fuck are you doing that requires 32gb/s of write speeds?!
For the final fucking time, stop it with the wifi and USB bullshit.
I wonder if he thinks GB=Gb
No drives you will ever get for any amount you're willing to spend will get even close to saturing a single gigabit connection
like dude doesn't realize I get about 4.0 GB/s write speed on redundant array and it was probably close to $12,000
nah, a very reasonable HDD setup can absolutely soak 1gbit.
10gbit is hard tho
nevermind this dreaming of 32gbit
I have 3 8tb drives in a z1 array and it easily can saturate a 2.5g lan
not hard to produce 250MB/s
bro is talking about 4 GB/s, big G, big B
and if you really need that kind of lightinng fast transfer? make your server into a data ingest station as well and use usb 4 and an external drive
They said that about an hour ago
I know
like, for what dumbass is actually talking about:
He needs either Two NASs or a two-tiered NAS.
A big pool of SSD Storage for whatever his supposed 4GB/s needs are. (or are not, because imagination land)
And a separate gigantic pool of HDDs, because apparently he requires half a petabyte of storage, too.
Wait if he only wants 10 bays
500 Terabytes. You don’t need that at all
Let's assume he gets 20tn drives
yeah but he downloads 8-16gb terabytes of crap every year
If u recall right it's like 28tb he wants
he said an 80TB SSD setup was only big enough for one year, so
What is that 160tb?
With 6 28tb drives you'll have 112tb of usable space in raidz2
140-145 after conversion
Close enough
There was also the insane mention of adding like 16TB a year... would love to know what performant system supports expanding an array
140/4=35s
isnt it 1.1 GB/s max performance from Wendlle review? when each drive can do 7Gb/s
10gbit networking caps a little over 1.1GB/s
35s is wild for writing over the entire nas lol
just 20 years of games, media, photos, go pro footage
for nvme that's gigaBYTES
for sata that's 6 gigaBITS
are you planning to spend 30K building this NAS solution?
Be honest, it's the movies and tv shows. Your personal photos probably don't take up more than a TB and the go pro footage probably isn't much either
still going
How do you even get a TB of photos
ping me if i miss anything important
I have 5gig
You set up the g5 yet
By taking them over 20 years and travelling as much as they do
I mean, if they're all RAWs or something? maybe?
..oh
I said "don't take up more than a TB" for a reason
yeah, idk kinda feel like you are leaving a lot of performance on teh table from that Celeron, no?
can someone can just hook this guy up with an enterprise vendor so they’re paid to hear this
Its unserious
am i just jaded from my USB4 enclosure with a fast Gen 4 drive in it?
there's no point here, really
no you're just a moron
ive done 3 drive writes on the mac in 3 days 0.0
uh huh
No you just have absolutely zero clue what you're doing and are in wayyyy over your head
Like over the last 10 years I've haven't taken more then 2.5gb of photos and that's with like 90% of these being accidental screenshots
sup
why
lol
you're high, but whatever
and I take a lot of personal photos & videos
Oh do you now

I think my Google drive is maxed out only because I have 8k raw video on it
i have 12gb of icloud photos since 2014
I maxed one out because I scanned hundreds of pages of game books to JPEGs at 600dpi
Jesus
Holy shit it's 5pm
I have 110gb of photos and 15gb of videos just on my phone. Not cloud storage either
Old game, and a lot of the data was never digitally released, so scanning physical books was the only way to get it
I've been walking for 6 hours???
wdym? its 2am
Cat photos?
Where the fuck am i
probably more due to the files being transferred rather than the drive itself
I probably did a bunch of circles
Something to that extent
My mom calls me and worries that I’m so far from home but I say to her I will walk back lmao
Most of my photos I have are of my cats
I don't doubt it. dude's lost the plot and has no idea what he wants.
He expect to build a NAS that runs at 4GB/s off HDDs and wants it to be USB
yeah, that's just not going to work
Tkitch come one why can't you do that
because physics
Imma be honest I thought he meant 4gb for a ehile
fisics
4gbit would be actually possible
If I drop an apple on your head can you do it?
going for a walk and getting so invested in some debate on your phone that you end up in the middle of nowhere. postmodern horror
can't hurt to try
I'm surprised he wasn't mugged
MB can't reach
honestly the usb is more of the issue than the 4GB/s
I live in canada
yeah on the west coast, that means marth and heroine
I'm not even technically in the same city
you're not getting 4GB from HDDs in RAID Z2
I avoided that part
fair
lob it, shorty
I'm gonna move to portland next year I love it here
well yeah not with raid z2
shawty
oh i get it now
i thought you were just calling him shorty im like bro what
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/topgear1224/saved/89J9K8 this is teh recomendation? in raid 6? obviously we will be limited to the 10gbps speed of the port. currently 62 Gb of data, so should be okay for a year or so, then do you recommend buying another one?
ASUStor
ass tor nas
this was the best ive ever managed
27.46 miles damnnn
what the hell is that pcpp list
My legs hurt now
Some people run for 27 miles and it’s incredible
it just kept scrolling
i think my watch died shortly after that so it may have been slightly more
The most I’ve run nonstop is 3.5 miles
ngl I can't wait to get back home tomorrow because it's gonna be nice and I can go bike riding
if you need to actually get 1GB/s+ of data transfer?
Yes, something like that will BY FAR be the simplest way to do it.
i couldnt
Hell some people can do ultramarathons and run 100 miles. How do they do it?
that took me all day of hiking
yeah
it's pretty sweet
I am watching back to the future rn
The real question is how I didn't realize I was going too far when I passed multiple major roads
this was halfway up
Beautiful
i think i may slightly like the mountains
The fear of heights and/or space could get to me lmao
I do not like being out in very open outdoor spaces
agoraphobia is a thing
this was a different, much easier nearby hike with a way nicer view
When I’m out in very open wide outdoor spaces it feels like I could fall into the sky
What are you doing that constantly needs the speed?
mind you, 10gbit networking can move 1TB of files in ~20 minutes?
And nobody moves files by the terabyte as a regular task.
right now i use my 2 USB4 active cooled enclosures with NM790 4tb in them, they real world 2.9-3.8 GB/s. i have my T7 but it over heats and clock down unless i put a glass of water on it. my T7 Shield i cant do anything to keep it cool since it lives in a blanket essentially. real world those do about 880MB/s according to windows. (when cold)
when i move 110GB movies around the T7 take FOREVER 🙁 typically i am putting 4-5 at a time on the drive for on the go viewing. i much prefer the USB4 but that are rather large. hopefully with NAS i can keep most of the stuff that normally on my hard drive and just use the internal SSD's on my machines to write to.
i was serious i have written 2TB to the mac since what ...friday night, and i havent even opened it up today.
mind you this nas talk is still going
finally actual information.
And every single thing you just wrote says your "requirements" are absolutely a waste of time.
wym?? i was going off of my USB4 enclosure speeds. :/
did i miss something?
have you spent any time reading the thousands of lines of responses to you so far?
man plex would blow your mind
When you have a NAS you won't be moving 110gb of movies around beyond the first setup
First:
You can watch a 110GB movie off your NAS directly on 1gbit networking with a fuckton of room to spare.
i was looking at my ppc NAS builds to see why this one caused rage, but none of teh other ones
Now I just need to get a flight home in time
redirect it to my house ill sign for ya
bestbuy!! @pure garnet
well when i leave i will have to still do the writes. when im home no.
not off site
plexxxx
So, step one:
Stop making up bullshit for speed requirements, and forget about your NVME Enclosure speeds. YOU DO NOT NEED THOSE.
What matters is "How much storage space do you reliably need" ?
jelly finnn
Not even remotely the recommendation.
6 28tb hard drives in a zfs raidz2 pool
i have 64TB rigfht now add 8-16 per year.
If you're copying movies to a laptop or portable drive, you can copy 500GB in well under 10 minutes.
That's not a bottleneck.
Actually I think he should drop his life savings on nvme gen 5 storage
Or better yet, optane
so get this
optane is slow, it's latency is the only benefit
this is what ive been saying from the start
I got like 10 16gb intel optanes lol
Oh does he actually want "speed"
Shame
Okay, so, assuming 10 drives, you're gonna want 24-28TB Drives, each. This'll be 200-230TB of disk space
Which will set you back a huuuuuuge penny.
Also, if you're in an TV, you need to remember that your PC Case is gonna be a large brick.
For educational purposes ofc
No you won't be. You'll set your shit up properly and only download movies that are transcoded to a quality suitable for the device you'll be watching them on
Optane is just better
Everyone should get an optane
905P for the children this Christmas
why are you more loaded on hardware than me
it feels like the t7 take much longer than that right now. maybe i just am in a rush what im doing it so it feel much longer?
im sussed out now
Those things can be had for a few bucks
worm secretly mega rich
I just stalk deals kek
no but he has other things too
probably. If you wait for the last minute, yeah, it always feels slow

are you going to areas with no network coverage? if not, you can definitely use something like plex
Just good at trading things for other things is all
i got a 2013 macbook pro for free recently
16gb optane: between $4 and $10 dollars
you will only ever need to download something if you leave your trailer while it's also not connected to the internet
does it need to turn on? no
Just lil m10s for linux isos ye
does it look kind of cool when i take it apart?
fuck yeah it does
the wall of shame at work will appreciate that sexy pcb
ive got more useful machines for even that
these seem to preform about teh same, any preferance?
a charger is probably more valuable than the hardware inside
Have you listened to a single thing that's been said?
neither of those.
oh youre sayin the optanes my bad worm
All good fams
I prefer Seagate because I like danger
cmonnn who doesnt like the look fo this bro
I realized I got the membership thing
yo youre more of a shill than me
I buy from best buy when possible
returns and such are easier
I mean
Optimum purchase
i buy from bestbuy to smite kyoko
Great acquiring
Lowkey jealous of ace
https://www.ebay.com/itm/236112931239 6 of these @warped mountain
yeah bein a tech and gettin all that fo free is sick
i can take all those resin pcs home if i want...which i dont...so....
but you get the point i get other neat things
Thank God it arrives before Thanksgiving
ROFL OMG
@merry stirrup @steel stream I just bought another 5090.... and look at this
the funny thing is i also buy a lot of shit from there i just find it funny when you say it so often
Oh snap what are they replacing snails?
Somethinggg
yes i often do. espically in the mountains up north, i can go off grid for &-10 dyas at a time before i need to go to toen to get more water.
somethin was wrong with power delivery thats kinda all we presume but that can be anything under the sun
I have a charger you want one?
I'll drive
You don't need an internet connection to use Plex locally
oh lord
I've been saying for ages in multiple messages, 6 28tb drives
You've seemingly ignored every one of them
I checked it this afternoon while cooking and it was "We have received your RMA and awaiting product" -- ordered new 5090 TUF OC, and now I check and it says "Your product has been received and diagnosed by our repair technician. It is currently in the process of parts replacement." - so they are fixing or replacing it...
Why do you need 4gb of speed for that little space
Stop.
all of my seagate reconditions have died within 12 months, though those were 1,5 TB maybe better now?
😭
they knew those fuckers
Skill issue
It's not 1999 anymore
Glad theyre fixing it at least
2 5090s otw just tell the wife they sent two by mistake
2 5090s, a 488, and a partridge in a pear tree this year for 5nails christmas
So here's what I am going to do. I am going to cancel the Best Buy 5090 for now. It will let me put my boat away and I won't need to change plane shit...
Give floppa one so the wife doesn't know
i fuck with this
she won't care - its that I literally have no where to put the other, other, other, other 5090
They're $370 per drive and 6 will get you 109TB of real world space in a zfs raidz2 pool and can be easily expanded with more of the same drives later when you run out @warped mountain
Also you're in a trailer, give this thing some padding and turn it off when you're on the move
I'm gonna put a heatsink on my iPod...pray for me
why are they so slow at 190? wont that be noticeable? or no because of our bottleneck?
check out ZFS vdev expansion
Yettt
does your kid need his own pc now
he sort of has one
5090 would go nicely in there
2009 .....
And then you give me your 5070ti
Boy stop it with the fucking speed thing
you are so funny
do you understand that the speed is faster when drives are pooled together
You don't need the speed you had with your horribly managed ssds and manual movie moving
the mac bin?
if i got a free 5090 i'd send jerry my 5070ti that's more than fair
This is exactly what the Plex server I use runs on
yeah but does your 5070ti say mac
my son has basically taken over the 9800X3D/5090 Master Ice build, but we also have another spare 7800X3D/5090 Master Ice build
Serving many people
no but mine isn't an asus prime so it balanced out
(i would do it jerry)
no it doesnt where does it place in nomad
is nomad free
yes
@warped mountain making sure you see this one specifically
yeah... they cant handle road vibration? i guess i always though you run NAS 24/7 so they can protect your data. but yeah hmm ... never thought of turning it off LOL
later im watching youtube
Jesus fucking christ.
i will not spoil it
why
No hard drive will handle road vibration long term.
DO NOT EVER run a hard drive array while in motion you fucking rutabega
BB offers convenience
in fact NOTHING in your trailer should be powered on when you're moving it

oh my gpu uses 12 pin not usbc thanks for the link though
fair enough, also geek squad protection is hard to argue with
yes 4x in that setup so 760 max therotical. the golds were 298 each so 1156, but im sure there is a bottle neck in place to where it wont matter, wasnt dude saying full SSD can only do 200? so idk at this point
you uh
oh my bad

ahh. okay
i will not mess with my gpu because i do not feel like buying another
fucking shut up with bottlenecks
i have nothing to lose
i only have a 50 series card rn because michael went down the pipeline
otherwise i'd be on my 4070
Geek squad what
Do they have riot shields?
LMAO
