not quite sure what the difference is between that and the ZimaBoard, this website sucks https://www.zimaspace.com/image/products/page/zimaboard2/board-v-2.mp4
Does it have raid support?
Oh wow a extra pcie slot
afaik they’re extremely similar
And a sata port and what seems to be a displayport port
yes, but i suspect they do mdraid for that ? didn't try, i just use the drives as JBOD
two sata ports!
uh lemme get one sata port, and one more sata port
And a pcie port
And a metal case
And a big price increase
daring today aren't we?
Add some some less ports also
I would try the toaster soon
i love that toaster
i like the toaster
thats a creative build ngl
Mutal agreement
By hdds do they mean the small ones
Sad news for us console users
means whatever you want based on the enclosure you use/build
on the 9 hdd/ssd one yes
Ai generated. Really?
Yes the pfp
if you have decent latency to a server then a virtual 5080 is probably a better experience than a local ps5
have you tried gfn on the cellular internet
naw ive never tried gfn
ohh yeah someone made them for all of our teammates in a mobile game we play (golf blitz)
I have used xbox cloud gaming and ngl the load times are so good but they just don't come to india cuz there afraid of our high population
i assume it wont work well with my extra 20ms of latency and only 20Mbps upload
back when gfn was in invite only beta i used to use it for csgo
90% of the time it worked great
the other 10% i’d disconnect and have to play at 1024x768 30fps for the rest of the game on my laptop
that explains a lot
I can use it with a free vpn so why not try
it was awesome when i didn’t have a real computer
oh, not you
potato system, what are you supposted to be able to run with that?
idk man it struggles to run my games
absolute lunacy that the 1060, my first GPU, saw the end of game ready drivers at the same time as my 6800XT, my most recent GPU
you should upgrade to a Matrox G200e
guess i'm going back to team green once the AI bubble pops
I hope you don't see my specs
if i get the 4k monitor is my text gonna break too
idk wym
your hwinfo looks like win 98 to me on my phone
what
anyway, i used NVMe as boot device on Z77 and Z87 boards which had no native NVMe support. I think i had to enable UEFI storage initialization on the Z87 board inside CSM (if i wanted to use CSM), but that was the only issue i ran into.
Ironically a H81 board with single x16 slot and three x1 slots had native NVMe boot support 😄
i used scaling at 1440p too so i dont even know what hwinfo looks like unscaled
the discord text looks fine it’s just hwinfo that’s weird
i’ll see if my zephyrus does it too in a bit
text looks a lot worse without scaling in 99% of apps, but rarely an app will be blurry or pixelated with scaling
the dual mode restocked so i’m heavily considering just ordering it
is this unscaled
same thats why i use scaling
it makes the text look a lot better in 99% of programs and windows itself
110ppi 100% is so pixelated
is windows still jank with diff res displays at scaling
i’ll have 1440p+4k if i get this
not really a ppi thing though tbf, text is still really obviously pixelated with 27" 2160p at 100%
I don't see it, thankfully.
I have the same
multi monitor is scuffed in general in windows even with equivalent monitors
1440p 100% and 2160p 150% are close enough to where it shouldnt bother you
I have never noticed anythin weird, it just works but i've had multi-monitors for 15 years
4k catgirls
I require all the room
I paid for all these pixels, I want to stretch out and use them!
theyre getting 27" 2160p and have 27" 1440p monitors rn
27" 2160p with 150% scaling is the closest to matching 27" 1440p 100%
27! no comment
i wanted 32 but i’ll just wait for oled
and deal with mixed sizes then
but the 20k hours gl83a is starting to not turn on reliably
I wish my old 3008WFP had an hour counter that I could have seen
the thought of using two 32" monitors on a shelf desk makes me itch
nah i'll do 32+27
27" 1440p, 32" 4k is the minimum size i would accept
oled side monitor is a literal death sentence
i leave 2 apps snapped like 80% of the time
then a youtube video the other 20%
i do that 95% of the time and ive been on oled for 3 years without issue xd
with all protective features disabled
I don't think i'll ever be able to put videos on a side monitor. if i'm watching youtube i'm watching youtube, front and center
i can't imagine the display will not have the snap line burnt in if i leave it like that all day
still using 2 1080p 60hz LCD since forever
it would
time to mess with the nvidia control panel
my AW3423DWF is now three years old and has no obvious issues
I have a lot of real estate so I even move my floating windows around every so slightly once a week or whenver I think about it
4k 100% downsized to the 1440p panel is the worst text i've ever seen
yeah supersampled desktop looks so ass
you can sign out instead of rebooting after changing scaling
but super sampling the desktop is always gonna look like shit
no i mean the settings app taking up my entire side monitor
i know the res changes look like trash
okay so windows just has to rescale it after
if i don't move it over fully then i get the comedic size
Is that hyper-v
meanwhile i use my real-estate like this most of the time
one or two apps
taskbar always visible
if i go 4k the 5070ti might have to work a little
you might even go over 50% utilization xd
That's crazy for 2025
looks like at 150% scaling everything just lines up how it should
🙏
i love 200% scaling for low poly games

i have taskbar only turned on on main display
it took a while to get used to it but i have come to apreciate extra space

EVGA moment
that thing has some serious gooch film on it
I bet thats true
@topaz veldt time to start selling your server modules /s
Will this work?
seesh
i literally bought 4 of those for 80GBP + 8GBP shipping in March
now it is at price of "not worth upgrading my X99 system" 😄
it will stay at 48GB i guess
guys i failed'
don’t spam
ddr5 doesn’t work in ddr4 boards
either swap the ram or swap the cpu/board
you’ll need an am5 cpu
ram works in that but your cpu won’t
then you need a CPU that isn't 2 generations old
If i go this one, which CPU I should go?
7400f and higher
the one you can afford
no 8000 apus
7400f/7500f
Which one I should go
7500f
Still 7400/7500?
7400f/7500f
Not intel? Interesting
doesn’t work in your motherboard of choice
you asked about an AMD B650 board
Ahhh
but in general in 2025 for normal users AMD makes more sense in more cases
yes, the AMD suggestions given already are fine
if you can afford better, there are options but all you said was "budget" so
i don’t think arrow lake is cheap enough in row markets to recommend it
hmmm
Is that bear Grylls calling in a helicopter to take him to his hotel?
absolutely
Intel were on to something with Lunar Lake (mobile)
oh here we go
If they could keep that arch, but allow a secondary memory controller for upgradeable (x)DIMM, that'd be the cake
I’m building my first computer and my motherboard (asrock B850m-X WiFi r2.0) didnt appear to come with a screw to screw in my ssd. I’m not really sure what to do.
these listings look so sketchy, ignoring that I can't understand half of it
couple % clocks is the only difference
if it was new in box, it did. probably a very tiny baggy. if you can't find it, you buy one.
I see
or its already screwed into the motherboard's m.2 standoff
well tag the poor guy
guys
no i dont want to HELP people i just want to be RIGHT
it may already be screwed into your motherboard
well we'll never know now will we!
Well crap, these were the only bags what were in the box
tc 1 and 2 on the daily
see above
guys....
Screw it in with the antenna. Be ight.
Keep your mobo bios up to date, asrock has been having some problems killing cpus
brother just type a question instead of spamming guys
bruh its a self lock
k thanks
the plastic nub rotates over the end of the ssd
you push the m.2 onto it and turn the black thing
If you're going to say something, say something. You keep just dropping random words with no substance and cross posting them in multiple chats.
yet another example of RTFM
no not an example of rtfm
i failed 😭
the manual would explain the m.2 retainment mechanism
Thanks you and badger, building for the first time is a little stressful. Tysm
k
you got this its0slimey_
happy to help, feel to free to ask any other questions
👍
guys....
all good dont sweat it. tbh i still prefer the screws
lmao i'll stop
i just use kapton tape to install m.2s
<@&750150305383186585> this guy is just spamming multiple chats with nothing messages.
you monster
not monster - scientist.
you secure your drives?
Monster.
HDDs get secured, so do M.2, sata/U.2 can cope
well the kapton tape loses its stickyness overtime so if i shake a PC too much it might fall out
ssd is in!
^
oh yeah 2.5" ssds i just let those flop around
2.5” ssds don’t care anyways
no
they’re happy flapping about
nah i actually secure my drives unfortunately. forgive me i lied
i use those to prop up the corner of a monitor stand cause the stand is uneven
thank you whoever shut them up
what in the world are those sticks doing
alan keys, and holding the rubber bands supporting the HDD
oh my god
now if only they would respond to the nsfw ping for him
friend was making this a decade and half ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJb0tdGSJIo
HDD vibration killer mounted in case. The result? No vibrations from hard disk drive transfered to the case. And its cheap...
@edgy laurel @devout ridge @pure garnet hi, should I go 8500G?
oof, didn't see that
that is too far and also really cool now i want to do that for something
you were told not to go 8000 series
I did?
AHHHHH
what number does “8500G” start with
Oki my baddd
7000/9000
im stilll here
you’re good, just go 7500f and call it a day
i shut myself
i did find this dope case for my NAS at a thrift store
what gpu are you going for again? i’m too lazy to scroll
ryzen 4070
it's ok, but Fractal Define R2-R6 or Nanoxia Deep Silence 1-6 would be better
Here
i think its pretty good considering i didnt pay for it
i doubt you’ll see any benefit beyond the 7500f on the B580
Pretty good pairing for most games at 1080p medium/high
i mean
guys i slep
bye ❤️
that is pretty nice
What about 1k4?
Peak
I don’t know what you mean by that
1440
Medium would be fine for most games
2k
Fractal Define R6 and Define 7 allows up to 11 hard drives, but you need to buy extra cages
High for simplistic games
I see
all that space for drives and one sata ssd attached
Might need to reduce below medium on some more demanding games
Most likely, yeah
i just took the first random picture from internet LOL
im pretty sure if i pass 10 hdds im gonna be considering a rack style case anyway
I see, thanks you
Never played the game personally, but it looks quite lightweight
also no ram lol
womp
Define 7 XL would like a word (16 hard drives)
cable management is speaking to you and your ears are closed
not my PC
bruh
guys i back
eventually there are so many cables that cable management is silly
true
its like your brain you dont want that cable managed cause then itd look weird
also pcie and sata ports on modular power supplys are the same right? they have the same pin layout
depends on the PSU, but usually no
Superflower had universal plugs for a while
truly disgusting
interesting
better picture
they are not the same pin layout on your psu
this vexes me
actually seems like they still do, these are some 3kW from 2025
goodbye
is this a modern pic because i do not see the 12 pin
the nvidia connector
you give corsair rm750 name i google this name if it is a specific year model then this must be specified else my googling will not work to help
thats not the latest one
oh probably cause its the rm750e
there is no 12+4pin on that connector- bro
boom you answered your own question
Guys, if i use 2 monitor will it eat a lot W?
monitors use power. more monitors use more power.
not really, i measured the power draw of my secondary monitors and in most cases its 30-90w per monitor
what the fuck
what is going on
terrorizing tc2

ok i had to check mine with a killawatt mine are each pullin about 20-40w
my CCFL 30": display i used a decade ago was using 150W peak 😄
well thats different thats mercury warnings monitors
I was just about to say, my old 30" 3008WFP was a space heater
then again in a bright scene my current C2 is around about 100W
my oled monitor is obviously higher draw
sorry, only 110W, still
ive got one at 30W, one at 19W, and one at 3.3W
163W typical
now to really save power switch all your monitors to e-ink
don't be jerry
dont be a jerry
❤️ jerry
who is jerry
someone else I poke fun at for saying nonsensical things
jerry is a person and i dont exactly understand what being a jerry means
this was the one i did remember - but sadly anandtech is gone, so this is the best quality of the picture i can find
upgrade to 850w gold
i say nonsensical things because i think they are funny things to say
usually they make so little sense I don't know how to respond
i say nonsensical things that i have chosen to do in past
do you own a pc?
no. no one here owns a pc
thanks
so you own the collective of several pcs, but you do not individually own any one of them?
we all use leapfrog learning tablets
i don’t own a singular pc, but i do own multiple pcs
this is what was expected of you iroh
i have a pretty nice rack if i do say so myself
oh yeah woo yeah is that a ubiquiti dream machine
aggregation switch
oh
dream machine is in the network closet
Nice book mountain
i hope to achieve your status someday soon
a bunch of children’s books since my mother’s a teacher
you will own everything and be happy
I was me
what series is that character from
Why are you holding part of a cow 🐄
because i made the cow
The USA earth series
i bet some people hate on the solo leveling collection
i lowkey actually like the story
nanami from jjk
the story is like nonexistent at first
still is nonexistent in the show, but is a lot better in the manhwa
we are about to get the last good season of solo leveling before it is awful
or i guess the only good season?
assuming a1 doesnt go under
Haven't gotten the time to get into SL
get into something better instead
Honestly after some searching it wouldn't be something I would be invested in anyway

its just aura farming but its effective aura farming
@devout ridge @pure garnet hi
My bf want me use Xiaomi 34in QWHD 180hz
But it cost around 6-7 millions vnd
Should I buy it?

What currency is vnd
Vietnam dong
i have no clue what that monitor is but the price isn’t awful
34" 1440p is kinda ass though
it’s in my closet
Oh I have 🙂
@edgy laurel opinion - top mount LF3 Pro, Noctua fans, push or pull? Intake or exhaust?
classic push exhaust, assuming O11 style
Fractal North XL
still
Unsure what side placement of my cpu cooler I should do or if it matters
Cause it seems a little tight next to the ram
it doesn’t matter just don’t make it go opposite the path of air in your case
unless its bending the DIMM it'll be fine. You can always move the fan to the other side
or lift the fan a bit
thanks
you can have the clip up more fins higher without an issue
what is it with new people taking pictures of components in unnatural orientations lol
messes with my head for a second
i made the mistake of telling someone to rotate a part 90 degrees over vc
and don't say anything about inverted ATX!
they picked up the board and like flipped it so the pcb was sideways
instead of just turning the board
lol
Inverted ATX only exists in Australia anyway...
You joke my an old Lian Li I and @green marsh had was like that
those old Lian Li's evoke sharp edges and cutting up your hands looking at them
but truth was they were really well built and few sharp edges
https://youtu.be/dy-wFixuRVU?si=8JukeAb80OCWDw2P ltt should try this think of all the overtime the employees will get
Build smarter with JLCPCB — one-stop service for PCBs, 3D printing, CNC, and more.: https://jlcpcb.com/?from=cdd
Turns out the rechargable batteries inside these "disposable vapes" are actually really capable.... but are they capable enough to power an entire house?
this is basically the layout my oem desktop had
inverted board but psu was up top
its such a funky layout. the PSU and case itself exhaust out the front, which is normally sealed
cooling is too hard. thats why i dont have a case
@edgy laurel @pure garnet hi
Someone told me should get 7600 instead 7500f
She told me don't get F
7600 is a little better, and a little more expensive
won't make much of a real world difference however
7600 has integrated graphics the 7500f lacks it
isn't that like 20% more expensive
But I don't like takin part in these situations where you ask one group, get an answer, then have to defend yourself when you go ask some other group
Oh I ask in other group about 4h ago
They just replied me
7400f < 7500f < 7600 < 7600x < 7600x3D. Those are your 6-core Ryzen 7000 chips
oh cool won't play it but cool
couldn't they have just called it Breakthrough Small
Thanks
Thanks
start selling your RAM now and you can afford more noctuas /s 😄
having said that, i still feel weird realizing i have 656GB total RAM, when counting all computers/laptops 😄
That’s a lot of ram
if you ever want to sell any of it lmk i am looking for ddr4
and many computers. nowhere near the amount 5nail5 has 😄
I have 32!
actively running or e waste thats not yet realized
when will you buy a rack?
i wish the pcs i had were smaller
actively running is:
64GB 9950x (desktop)
128GB 5700G (server)
64GB i5-8500B (mac mini, for Linux experiments)
16GB Macbook Pro (on the go, or if i need to do Mac stuff)
16GB mini PC as my router
16GB Z77 ITX as HTPC
16GB Z77 ITX as backup NAS
32GB 3700X PC at mom's place
"eWaste"
64GB 3900x
128GB X99 system 1
48GB X99 system 2
64GB 2950x
16GB Haswell (i actually forgot about this one)
i need to go through them to see whats worth keeping and not honestly
thats actually so sick
i mean something i use once in a while, or runs in background i count as actively using. For example mom's PC is used like a total of 3-4 weeks a year
https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/1olpwhx/my_285_ram_is_now_almost_1600/
people are noticing
i agree, it still has its designated purpose
the Mac Mini is halfway between the active and ewaste, but meh, once in a while is good enough
my shelf of computers have pcs i have not even opened yet. a lot of it is legit ewaste but ill probably save the motherboards and such
i just meant that the 20 GBP 32GB ECC RAM i bought is $80 now. And 5nail5 has whole storage box of them
but then that second X99 system in ewaste category doesn't have to have 128GB DDR4 ECC RAM
maybe i should buy some with my employee discount then before it gets too bad
i can give you a swap
the sad part is all the DDR3 i have in storage. 4x4GB DDR3-1333, 2x2GB DDR3-1600, a random 8GB DDR3 module etc
but with china 8GB modules being 10 euros, there is no point in using any of these
how do you aquire this much ram
ram uhm
finds a way
years
seconds
prank em john
i dont have a system that can utilise it tho
yeah, that is $50-$80 a piece now. Time to sell them on ebay
Annoyed - one other pack of 2x NF-A14 G2s didn't come yet
So third 140mm in the front and that rear 120 should be a 140
last week sales
homies got a small fortune in ram alone
The prob is they are saying "or best offer" Parandroid
this has caught my eye
i can utilise my ram in it and just buy 8 cpus for 10-20 each
DIMM prices are up but no one is paying $85/DIMM for 32GB 2Rx4
some are cheaper, but...
they are sold listings
Yes "or best offer"
the best offer is not reflected in the closing price
didnt know that
The only ones that count are "buy it now"
or bids obv
Also take 13% off the price because thats what ebay eats from it
26$ delivery on 1 32gb stick is criminal
Market price baby
still, if you look at the current listings, they are $80-$90 for "cheap ones"
Listing means nothing unfortunately
thats to paranoid's location and not what buyer paid
For instance I had a listing for $1999 for a kit of RAM and it sold for like $980
ah i see
The other thing worth mentioning is when you see like 1 DIMM purchased that is usually a small business with a singular bad DIMM they are willing to pay whatever to get a matching PN#
look for lots of like 8 - 24 DIMMs, that gives a more reasonable "price" if they actually disclose the sale
most of the "lots" are "best offer" and you'll never really know, but I just sold 32GB 2400T 2Rx4s for like $30/ea a few weeks ago
That's up from about $23-24/ea
still, you could sell all your RAM and then get a Framework AI mainboard with the 128GB LPDDR5x 😄
I don't think you understand the game I am in lol
Can anyone help me with a Minecraft issue? It is giving me the error code drowned. I’ve spent four hours trying to fix it. Please help.
maybe even dgx spark
My sons has been doing this also - it can' tlog in
Both of these options have really, really shitty resale
So bad buys for my RAM hustle
Thank
ill be watching for used ones in few years
sell ram now, buy it back when the ai bubble pops
the great transfer of wealth is upon us soon
The bubble is gonna be a while, because the buys are actually a few years out already
i want it poped
i need cheap ram again
this looks so nice
i mean my 4x32GB DDR4 ECC is "would like to so i can max out that system" and not "need" 😄
I know it sucks but I am enjoying expensive RAM times
And AI doesn’t really use RAM lol
In a classical sense of deployment at least
Oh the nvidia supercomputer thing?
i would like another 64gb in my truenas system
I am looking at a lot of 144-200 32GB 2Rx4 2400T DIMMs
I mean, i didn’t look into the thing, I was hoping they did a TPU like structure
Thats 256GB 2666 2Rx4

Wha in gods name yall caching
zfs, yo
Insanity honestly
whats insane is its 24 x 1.92TB SAS3 SSDs
what does this mean
I limited my cache to 32 and saw 0 perf decrease
OK that’s crazy
TC1 has invaded

That's what it means
Which ssd is it?
One of them
You prob don't have like 200TB of all flash tho
No def not
I use TrueNAS for block storage, not file share stuff
im sorry you have 200tb of flash storage?
that is so sick
Its iSCSI out of TrueNAS, all flash, with 4 x 10 Gbp MPIO for now - I see like 3.0 GB/s rear/writes in VMs
i am merely stepping into homelab, i only have 15tb after raid
I have 12tb stripe 💔
stripe is criminal
2.8 GB/s reads, almost 4.0 GB/s writes
DDR3 🙁
soon to be ddr4

Nice - each of my ESXi hosts is 576GB DDR4
i think it’s funny how everyone uses truenas
i wish i could have spent more money on storage cause this pool is small af
its goated
nom nom nom
I was on normal cli debian
Had a bunch of problems
Got recommended truenas
No offense taken, loser
what do you suggest we do with our lives?
whoever that is is already blocked. must be a real winner
Yeah that ain’t what using truenas means mate, Goodbye
Fuck all that Marriage shit, WCing and Retro eWaste Adventures is what keeps me going baby woooooooooo

some people make more money than others. privatising your life and taking control of your data is quite good imo
I have probably built some builds that predate them
you can build a NAS for quite cheap as well
You're super good at whining
im in it for 700 and i feel like i went a little crazy
you can make a half decent NAS with a couple terabytes for under 100usd
good enough for the average joe, though some of us want a bit more
Sup
Mine was only 250
i think it’s time for me to set up my own k8s cluster somewhere, i have some old hardware i can piece together
I don't have anything to put on a NAS.
i only spent as much as i did cause i had a weekend to reach my promotional amount on my credit card
My current machine was probably just shy of 1k, albeit it at different times
i mainly have movies, tv shows, and my cloud photos on mine for now
I want to live this way
photos and videos that auto replicate to 3 2 1 best practice
linux ISOs…
lotta work. google photos is fine for me
fair
its cool af tho that i have my own local facial recognition in my photo library, running of a 1060 3gb
sure, and say you do something google doesent like and it gets thanos snapped
i acquire, watch and delete. no need to store
That would suck, but no sense in worrying. Life goes on.
do you argue with people in the youtube comments or something
just use kodi at that point tho
it’s gotta be hard to get banned from google
I acquire, then never watch
i’ve seen one of the movies at least 15 times, the rest never
this is the true way
do you guys use plex, jellyfin, emby, or something else?
Plex
Well google did lose a lot of personal data stored in their cloud
https://www.techspot.com/news/103207-google-reveals-how-blank-parameter-mistake-erased-135.html
just happened to be what i started using first, haven’t had an issue so i don’t bother moving to a free solution
plex has features i wish i had on emby
Jellyfin over here. Though when possible, I just end up copying files to local storage to play with MPV.net
In my experience, absolutely nothing beats local storage, only because nobody has figured out how to guarantee 100% network uptime... yet. 🤷
I use jellyfin
my bandwidth is good enough to where i dont have to worry about video playback
I’m plugging my cables into the power supply, gpu, and motherboard and am so stressed
dont mess it up its gonna cost you a lot of money ||/s||
Easy. Just pay for an expensive ass commercial datacenter spot (we have 30+ independent network links!)
I wish it were that simple. My home, workplace, and cellular provider can't guarantee 100% uptime so... 🤷 (To be clear, I recognize 100% uptime is not technically achievable - I'm just sick of everything these days being designed to function "perfectly" in a vacuum... and seemingly never tested in the real world.)
Fucking losers
no no no
build small datacenters in 10+ locations with 2 uplinks each and sdwan site to site
at least if my isp goes out i have my local connection i can stay on
Ah yes, how I like setting up a tier 3 in 10 locations
just this last week we had AWS go down twice and Azure also at least once
Again, fucking losers
this is why you need to homelab
whats in between /s and /srs
99.9998 uptime babyyyyyy
do you happen to know a video or something I can watch where I can’t mess it up? The ltt build guide doesn’t really explain where they all go
that is why i have computers with over 650GB of RAM
i was messing with you. its legos
2N+1 babyyyyyyy
speaking of that
last week i found that one of my isp's equipment on their side isnt on ups at all
electricians were working on transformer station and we lost connectity immidiently, luckly we have 2 isp's so no big deal
more ram than a lot of laptops have storage
actually insane
just pick another. there are hundreds and one is bound to cover the cable you're concerned with. Random first hit on youtube https://youtu.be/Mho0M1Ns0Rw
If I were you I would also be worried that they only have one substation
Aight
That’s some fucked up shit for a network provider
my two isp options are wireless fiber and cox (cocks)
wireless fiber is kinda goated tho i have 6 ping and good speeds
Wireless what
fiber
Elaborate
satellite style dish on my roof pointing at an anchor
we have like 5 hv transmission lines feeding us but providers equipment is in another country for reasons i cannot disclose
Ayyyyy military peops!
how can it be fiber if its delivered wirelessly
Love yall
non military, non govermental
Depends. If this "transformer station" were powering network equipment along the plant (between the hubsite / CO and customer), then it's quite common to only have one power source. An ISP cannot reasonably demand the local power company provide 2 power feeds to every single piece of their equipment in the field... thus they really should be using a UPS to provide back-up power to every piece of their equipment.
I was going for a trafic exchange point but yeah a switch without a UPS makes sense
I’d have to say it’s sadly a common practice
I’m intrigued
So... what you actually have is likely a Fiber-backed WISP system? (Point to Point wireless.)

Kind of like what Alex does to provide wireless point to point internet to some clients over in the UK.
Today Alex gives us the full tour of his ultimate Ubiquiti home network and WISP! Let's do this!

yes that is correct
maybe even using licensed bands
there was an ltt video on installing a similar setup too i believe, i think it was for linus parents?
Righto, so not Fiber then. But still can be very good if the WISP provider knows what they're doing, which it sounds like they do if you're getting symmetrical speeds and really low latency.
An entire stack of sensors died at work recently
Been a shit week, we had to remount like 10 of them
yeah honestly this isp is legit, and a lot cheaper than cocks communications
Fingers hurt dude
It’s also gonna be an antifreeze season soon. Diesels might blow up
even then most of the energy used isnt electricity, its gas
They better not though
Oil?
Natural resources company?
nope
Might be like a DNS server operator
Or something big trafic wise
That would explain the weird shit
non IT company
Or a bigger trafic exchange point/network segment
NOT a hint!!!!!!
I do not think at all!
it is a product and not a service?
My gpu has 3 female pci-slots, I put cables in all three. Just checking
you are required to use them all
standard 4+4 connector
or is that a 6+2, i cant tell from the angle
So right now I’m pretty sure I just leave it hanging
6+2
you fill the entire plug
inflation these days is crazy
do not leave it hanging when its not a 6 pin
So should I unplug one of them to then plug in the one that has the two outputs
oh ok
it’s “better” to use the 3 separate cables but it realistically don’t matter a ton
if you had a low tdp card the pigtail is fine to use both ends
low tdp card would have 3 of 8 pins
I’m pretty sure I got it, first time building, pretty clueless, am here asking for help because if I didn’t I’d be a lot more lost than I am now
375w potential
yeah which is why i said to not use the pigtail
wait no, 525w
but it doesn’t really matter unless they’re on a 3090 or something
75+3x150
considering it’s a dual slot prime it’s not doing 525w
maybe not but it doesnt hurt
i have connected dual 8 pin eps to my motherboard just cuz i had extra cable
need to feed those 24 vrms for your 90w cpu
65w
If its got it doesnt hurt
My newer msi x870 also has an extra 8 pin slot at the bottom of the motherboard for pcie i think dont quote me

vrms are very good on it
Gosh the NF-A14x25 G2 are so good
yeah every msi board has it even though it’s useless
one more
you can get an matx board with supplemental power when it has… 2 slots
Of forsures just a neat to have type deal
I miss when there were motherboards that have daring colours other than the usual boring ones you see

hey asrock sold me the banana board
one of the reasons i bought it
also it was cheap
i remember there’s a period for awhlle when the z690 sonic was a cheap motherboard people bought
I remember when ECS was purple, Gigabyte had Blue (still do but seem to be on enterprise boards now), and MSI had red
suspiciously little floppa today
His ram oc must have killed him
he's distraught
he was sick yesterday
Too much candy

i likey when i first saw it with this card, even tho card itself was not released to public ever
This PCIe add-on card came from the special edition of ASRock's Livemixer B650 Motherboard made special for Wendell! We're hoping this becomes way more mainstream though!! Its so cool!!

I absolutely love that weird thing
just for existing
i will never complain about the ocf skin for asrock uefi again
you win the worst uefi skin award
qm7k is the one reddit likes for cheap
otherwise i’d go oled i think
48 inch b5 oled should still be 530 if that size is okay
I went 65" mini led and love it
ya, hisense has some nice deals on good models. that being one of them
This board I would argue started off the whole black PCB mobos we see now
I’d honestly have to compare irl, so i may go to a best buy near me to compare sizing

here’s the link if you go
mini led still has the inky blacks of OLED right?
nearly in some cases
much more dependent on how well they do with the backlight zones

Specifically with the QM7K
Perfect, thank you
wow the tcl gets bright
@merry stirrup feel better soons
also lots of sleeps
the shear darkness of the WOLED is hard to give up
it is nice
That image happens to be a great scenario for local dimming
yeah hisense has that shit figured out for miniled, its damn good
It’s my bedroom TV combined with a proper 4.1 surround sound setup (no center channel)
So that 55in QM7K should be quite nice
How many zones it has?
Mine is too I got 65" it's a bit big
I have a pretty small room, so 55” is already pushing it
it’s about the upper limit of what can be reasonably fit
2880
65? how big is your bedroom
Pretty small
TCL and Hisense have figured out how to support both DV and HDR10+
meanwhile Scamsung and LG are at eachothers throats
i thought lg did both
no HDR10+
oh interesting
and no DV with samsung
so my cheap tcl has better hdr support than jorj’s c5
well i dunno about your TCL lol
vs his c5 mind you
but the QM8K does at least
mine has dv, i’d assume it does hdr10+
maybe
just another HDR format, more used for TV broadcasts and I think Youtube uses it
Yeah my TCL qm8 has all the things too
anyone have a recommendation for a laptop for video/ photo editing/ school thats cheaper than a 2025 macbook air, 13inch, trying to tell my family friend , not to buy a mac for their 10th grader
they should buy a Macbook Air
i honestly cant think of anything better for photo editing yeah
if it’s for just homework used thinkpad is the play
I think it's like 12 feet by 10
but if they’re seriously photo editing the m chips are crazy good
damn, thats a lot of TV for that room lol
It really is
I think i found a new job for my old 1080 Ti, encoding on a NAS for jellyfin
But it was on sale and I had a employee discount
do you not have an intel igpu?
i don't have an intel cpu
oh rip
Good luck finding a 13" laptop with a built-in full size SD card slot these days. (If you're doing photo / video work, it's extremely hard for me to recommend a device without a high-speed SD card slot.)
yeah nvenc works then
if i'm using a GPU for encoding, does it really matter whether i get an AMD or intel cpu?
no
well, thats a weird question since you said "get". If youhave "get" something, get intel
then no need to power and cool a 1080ti
Originally released July 2022|13.6-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology1|16GB unified memory|256GB SSD 2|1080p FaceTime HD camera|Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports
was thinking of just getting a cheap 16-thread cpu, as for compression with handbrake, thread count matters apparently
only if you're using software encoding
and if you're just using it for streaming video, you really wouldn't
a task a GPU can do much faster
i see
if you’re buying a cpu get an intel one because you can use quicksync and it’ll be better than the 1080ti
though handbrake is a bit weird in that it offloads a lot to the CPU even when using NVENC. if just using NVENC through jellfin the GPU handles it all
yeah my 9800x3d still got like 70% load on my nvenc stuff
yeah that actually annoyed me a little when I sold my 7900x for a 7800x3d
handbrake doesn't support NVDEC
I dunno why they don't improve that
https://www.bestbuy.com/product/aoc-27-qd-oled-qhd-240hz-g-sync-compatible-003ms-gaming-monitor-black/JX9GSKP9H6 $400 qd OLED but best buy closes before I get off work
You can get a dongle for quite cheap
So.. i shouldn't use my 1080 Ti at all?
Videography is carrying around lots of accessories and dongles anyways
I don't consider a laptop that makes users carry a dongle [for a connector that would fit into the chassis if they so designed it] to be "professional" grade, but yes, you can do that.
It’s near impossible for a laptop to have every port for every kind of professional, so a laptop with high speed IO is more than sufficient
and 80Gbps of IO is more than sufficient
(dual TB4)
framework but I guess they are just USB c adapters
semantics at that point, given they're inboard of the body
my father recently picked up an M4 Air and damn is it nice
What is he doing with a fancy m4 air
just his work PC
Ah not retired yet
every 4-5 years he buys a new Mac, been doing it since the early 90's
He bought stinky Intel macs
a few of them
still has a 27" iMac on his desk with some i5 or i7
but i suspect that'll stop getting used because the Air smokes it
air would so be so frickin nice if it wasnt a 60Hz LCD
I have an M3 air and it’s quite nice
i do some theatrical audio/lighting work on it and it serves me well
From a few hours to a few days of battery?
something like that
If i don’t have class i can go like a week without charging my laptop
that m series silicon is just so damn efficient
it’s idle power draw is also almost 0
Just sucks you can't plop in a m.2 drive
Yeah
i opted for a 256gb model and quite regret that
I’ll likely upgrade to a 1tb M5 in a few months
256 shouldn't be an option minimum 512gb plz
i have a 128gb m1 air
it’s genuinely only enough for firefox and discord basically
Wait they came that smoll
How much did the os take?
was it locked down by some sort of MDM?
@edgy laurel I like that they added 1%L to overlay
i noticed that recently, about time
its been in FrameView forever
no i bought it from a proper channel so it’s legally mine
just was originally bought by a school
think it’s like 30gb
yeah kinda ridiculous
the jfp1 or whatever
idk where to put the screwdriver when i boot it for the first time
hopeully im alive by monday
It be like that the worst of it is just a few days but its gonna suckss, lots of water
i cant find this jawn
ive ben looking for like 15 mins
what motherboard
asrock b850m x wifi
bottom right presumably
yep
Happens
But forget shorting them, just plug the power button in
in there anyway, might as well
Would be best
like the one what comes with the case or smth
yes lol. you know, the method used to turn on the PC normally
that button plugs in there
i've never bothered to test my stuff outside the case
i just put it together and hope it works
same
gulp
locally streaming 4k blue ray quality video is just so damn nice
@edgy laurel any experience with Sonos?
nope
damnit
I am looking at 2x 6.1 outdoor systems with these amps... the fact they have "wifi and wired ethernet" suggests I can stream right to them
but i want to make sure I don't need a separate streaming box
Dude we got our patio design completed, the money is.... oof... but I am so pumped to do the audio
I am thinking of running 12/4, so 12 awg, 4 conductor speaker wire so if I want to rip some watts later with upgraded amps I can
Anyone here running Win11 25H2 or still on 24H2?
nope. it wasn't a major update
ok no big features?
apparently some weird task manager duplication thing
but i'm sure that'll be patched
Hmmm
Peace, Land, and COOKIES!!!!
hi
hi
how are you?
good
Hi. If you have a question, better to just ask it openly.
great!
thanks
i just developed an app that lets you store files of any size in telegram without storage limits and works perfectly
but i wanted to get some feedback from people who can possibly use it
scam
