Did I just waste on an upgrade that isn't going from a 4070 to a 9070xt (sold the 4070 and spent less then $100 on the 9070xt so was good deal) or is the 9070xt better with AI generation and what not? I thought it was more Vram, less model loaded into system memory run the model faster and out of memory entirely model to large.

I also thought it was cuda like ray tracing is better on Nvida but not because you can't on AMD but because it runs slower that's all the extra Vram will help make up for the loss.

I am starting to get the sense that's not the case. While I mostly did gaming then at the start of the year (because I didn't know AI would get enough for video generation to be played with) if I had known that Nvia would still be twice as good as as AMD at least for AI and that's what I'd be using my desktop for I wouldn't have switched.

Question though Vram means I can run larger models and larger usually means better so won't the videos be less OK that's not AI at least for complex problems even if they take longer to render or no?

Abysmal as in? The models I run generate text the same speed I can read give or take a word per min and my system memory spikes like crazy when running them and the Vram spikes to full.

Let's say I'm doing a roleplay and 32B models are good but the context limit is a little less then I'd like, the fandom knowledge is a little less then perfectly accurate and what not but I can't fit a larger model in the Vram or system memory on my laptop.

If I then switched to my desktop would I be able to run larger models that are better at having the fandom knowledge and giving quality replies because they are able to be larger on my extra vram or is that not how it works?
