@frigid blade @royal scaffold
Chatting here yesterday made me realize something: people who actually understand the underlying context and history of hardware are an extreme minority, even here in the West where the PC market originated.

I remember posting on the Level1Techs forum a while back about the paradigm shift in tech over the last 20 years. I analyzed vendor strategies and market transitions through the lens of actually using the hardware. The reaction was... okay. People read it, but it didn't really spark any deep discussion.

Trying to discuss 'why PCs are designed this way' or 'how the market evolved over 40 years'—maybe it's just my own wishful thinking to expect people to care. But honestly, my only hope is to show foreign players and vendors that here in Asia (as a Taiwanese), we aren't just about R&D, stock investments, or being a faceless link in the supply chain. Even in this fast-paced, disposable tech era, there are still people here who deeply remember and care about the entire history and evolution of it all."

river marsh
# steel umbra The strat is: AI AI AI

Yep, 'AI AI AI' is the ultimate duct tape for every corporate presentation now. But people forget all those AI models still have to run on the exact same silicon pipelines we've spent 60 years building. That's the history I'm trying to visualize."

steel umbra
#

and before smart you had intelligent

#

at least as i remember it

#

can't tell you any further in history

sinful cobalt
#

“r slur means slow. was he slow?”
no

river marsh
# steel umbra at least as i remember it

Haha exactly! The marketing buzzwords just keep evolving: Intelligent -> Smart -> AI.
But honestly, even with everyone having access to AI now, most people still can't generate actual deep tech insights because they lack the human 'backend' knowledge. To me, AI is fundamentally a tool that tech craftsmen spent decades building, but now it's just being abused by unqualified marketers and users for cheap hype.

sinful cobalt
#

they lack human intuition, have difficulty tracking, love to hallucinate (double counting and mistaking items)

steel umbra
sinful cobalt
#

must be the frame generation at work

sinful cobalt
sinful cobalt
#

we’ve seen how out of touch said people are

river marsh
# steel umbra I envy how fast you type and with better grammar as well

Haha, don't be envious! To be completely honest, I use AI to help translate my thoughts because my raw English grammar is actually pretty bad. But I don't just blindly copy-paste—I actively review and correct the AI's output as it generates, making sure the technical context and my original ideas are 100% accurate."

steel umbra
#

you ask chatgpt the exact same thing phrased differently and the answer is yes/no difference even if it understands what you say in both cases

sinful cobalt
#

Jensen: AI wont replace hard labour like plumbing etc

Yeah, for the first like year, those jobs will be “safe” till humans actually start to flood it and it might be another example of CS

sinful cobalt
#

Theres levels to ts these bastards dont understand

#

Now they’re only just realizing the costs of AI such as compute and token generation

steel umbra
sinful cobalt
#

Say even if AI does get good to the point these costs go down immensely, and they fire us “low value humans” -quoted from standard charted CEO

They’re destroying the economy because us in turn will have less spending power

Its literally cyberpunk2077 into reality

steel umbra
#

I'd say if they spent all of that money instead into welfare humanity would be better off

sinful cobalt
#

Starbucks recently just slowed down their AI inventory tracking after 9 months iirc

sinful cobalt
#

“for those who come after” mindset does not exist anymore

#

If you listen to ANY podcast or interview of any corporate mf you will realize that their mindset is FULL OF SHIT

steel umbra
river marsh
#

To me, the most terrifying thing about AI isn't that it gives perfect answers. It's the fact that humans are getting comfortable letting AI and algorithms make decisions for them and drive their actions.

We see this problem in recommendation algorithms, social feeds, and targeted ads—they act as massive amplifiers. When people surrender their agency, these systems just infinitely magnify extreme emotions and polarize our values just to keep engagement high. We are basically giving up our own 'root access'.

And when it comes to enterprise adoption—whether it's IBM or newer startups—most of them are just implementing it so they can posture themselves as 'tech adoption consultants' or industry visionaries. It's mostly just for show.

Like you guys mentioned with Starbucks and McDonald's, the biggest issue isn't whether the tech 'fails'. The real terror is the corporate calculus behind it: what are these corporations willing to tolerate, and more importantly, what are they willing to completely sacrifice (like quality or human livelihood) just to evaluate the system and maximize their own profit margins.

Apparently humans are starting to replace AI now.. what has this world come to? Taking away AIs jobs to replace them with cheaper alternatives

steel umbra
#

just give source now or ded

river marsh
# steel umbra Almost every time i use chatgpt for something i find inaccuracies

Exactly. No matter what, you absolutely need a solid baseline of foundational knowledge before you can use AI effectively.

In a lot of Taiwanese communities right now, it's a mess. People blindly use AI-generated content without caring about the actual context or professional accuracy, just to validate their own arguments. No joke, we literally have people here trying to use AI-generated answers to represent themselves in doomed lawsuits, or trying to exploit non-existent legal loopholes that any human with common sense would know are fake. It's wild.

he'd rent his service out, so people with stolen cc wuld 'check' if it was reported before using it. this guy would then steal the already stolen numbers from hsi clients lol. he was a scumbag

#

also depending on a merchant's anti fraud service, like authorize.net etc may have diff guardrails for detecting things. some people would get around that, so like put a pair of levi jeans in the cart, do a card for exactly $501, for some reason it would not flag and would go through initially. later found but the fraud was done and too late
