thermal paste is actually supposed to be, for the most part, smooshed out to the side. it's critical to apply enough so there's no gaps which can create a hotspot -- but it's a waste to apply too much because it all gets squeezed out when you tighten down the cooler

this is a good strategy for a chip with an IHS - the metal lid over a CPU, for example. that setup makes it so that a trapped air bubble isn't ruinous

with bare-die.... it's technically possible. you just have to be very exact with the placement and size of the dot. and there's no way to know you did it right. So I recommend the manual spread for safety

I've got a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE and was wondering if I should rather swap it with an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 (it's around ~70 euros on amazon), since the 2nd fan is kinda being blocked by the RAM, plus the CPU temps for Ryzen 7 9800X3D hit around 85 degrees in certain games (I set the fan curves to lower, due to insane noise previously).
Additionaly, the Phantom 120 SE makes some rattling noises for some reason when at lower speeds.

Now its 2 gigabit and we have a better router and some new booster/extender plugged in so the porch has signal (its a brick wall between the porch and the router besides the door to the porch but one wall only) or so that's what my mom said the Verizon guy setup.

I just had my NAS and 3D printer plugged into a linsys booster upstairs. And I'm just trying to see if they support the faster speed (especially for my NAS it has a fast enough network card) or if that will be the bottleneck. I know that I need a cad 6 cable I have a few.

Yeah that's what I'm doing, hardwire to the WiFi extender if I can or hard wire to the router if need be.
