Jailbreak community may have a way around this but I think its just a retired managed company device and because they didn't trust the users set it up for one purpose and that purpose only, now that its end of life to them they didn't bother to do what is required to give it back any usable life. Unless your mom can get in touch with any IT department that set this up you probably can't fix this. It either requires some remote software they used for monitoring it to change something and or an admin password and some settings changed on device both you do not have access to.

They can't do anything unless certain laws get passed we should all be very weary of and fear happening. Right now the encryption on their devices (that I hope is not illegal) does not allow for them to get around the restrictions placed.

That said Apple could in iOS updates allow things to get changed but they won't because locking someone out of an old device on the used market makes less used floating around so more people buy new. Its why you gotta make sure its signed out of an apple account before you reset it and give to someone or it gonna ask for the password.

If the iOS device is managed by MDM, you'll have to request it be released from management by whomever set that up. If this was a business device, that's likely the IT firm they had managing their devices. If configured properly, there is no way around MDM on Apple or most modern Android devices, which is the whole point... It keeps devices safe and secure.

The only way Apple would help is with proof of purchase, then you can take it to the store and they have their way to remove the profile/reset the device

You can almost always use DFU mode to reset iOS devices, but during the activation process they contact Apple's servers which is when Activation Lock will happen and/or MDM re-enrollment.

Tailscale is not port forwarding. And while you're not "storing data on their servers" you are passing some network traffic through their servers to establish the initial connection. Yep. Depending on University even 8gb would be fine. My university doesn't recommend any particular specs. Many are still using 5 or 6 years old laptops with 8gb ram.
Whatever we need to try out, we have labs with 64GB ram systems and amazing graphics cards, so it's fine to have a lower end laptop.

You take 7800x3d to 9800x3d and average gains in game can be what, 12-20% game dependant? So for argument sake say 15%. Clock speed makes a massive difference and IPC gives around say 5% boost. Based clocks being 4.2 v 4.7 and boost 5 v 5.2 - iirc cache is the same amount. So when you look at the huge boost even if you remove latency on 9950x3d2. There’s a strong case that there’s a big hard L3 cache cut off point where it makes negligible to no difference on current games

My 9950X3D ebst is like 46900k
