If you listen to that song multiple times, it will also cache a few related songs that may come up if you decide to radio it. It used to not be user facing, but they recently decided to put all these cached music into a playlist on the mobile app called "offline backup" and accessible to the user.

I use spotify nowadays for even high quality streaming since I can rarely tell the difference between Vorbis and Lossless (though they do offer Lossless streaming too now), and much less bit-perfect vs resampled assuming it's not a terrible audio resampler. Youtube unfortunately still does not offer any high quality audio formats, capping out at 256kbps AAC and I can hear the difference in some tracks and it really bothers me

so while yeah YT has a larger selection I think, Spotify still stays on top for balancing convenience with audio quality
