but a few things make me need windows, support for adobe acrobat for work stuff. ability to use my government id to electronically sign them, which i'm not sure the support of in other pdf editors. even if they support, i'm already vastly familair with navigating pdf creation/editing in adobe so would be a hard shift. my school uses a 3p testing management company which uses a proprietary web browser for tests that kind of locks down the entire pc that might not work well on linux, additionalyl some of my tests require a native excel addon for the test environment.

then a bunch of other smaller things that i've seen mentions of with difficulties on various linux distros that i don't want to deal with. things like multiple monitors with multiple resolutions and frequencies, ultrawide support, goXLR, wfifi 6e drivers now apparently, etc.

if you're super worried about it, and your TV supports vesa mounting, lots of decent 'media center consoles' with built in tv mount to raise it a little higher for a few hundred bucks these days. depends on your budget and desire for specific looks/etc ofc

they'll do wireless sound but wired power, so the amp isn't driving their power, and typically locks you into specific ecosystems (think apple walled garden)

it depends on your goals. if budget+convenience is the goal, and jsut want an upgrade, there are plenty of decent soundbars that will be worlds better than a tv's built in (unless you have some super high end tvs that have some half decent speaker setups)

if sound quality is the goal, a budget surround system will give better audio

msot people "better than the shit in the tv" is plent good enough bar to meet

my current living situation/plans that'll be my next upgrade myself

if i was doing "what i want to do" i'd have the room for a full on 5.2.1 setup with atmos and go atmos

you do have the room for a full setup though, so if I was living in your situation, i'd get an 5.2.1 setup, and all in i'd spend a minimum of like $500+ on getting there

but for the same price+ cheaper you can get perfectly adequate soundbars

this is true in any industry, but is hyper-true for this specific use case imho because spatial sound is very specific to the sptial design of the system delivering the sound. if it's not properly implemented in a way to give you the spatial sound, it's not going to do anything much
