"needs" is up in the air, but simply knowing if there are available updates is as easy as looking in the BIOS at what version you have (can be done in windows too), then looking at what updates are available.

Generally don't bother with updates unless there is something you're trying to fix or prevent, or if you just like to tinker.

So the usb 3 is the same port as the iPhone port, the usb 2 would run off of the lidar sensor lane, keyboard and touchpad cover the other two cameras, 3.5mm dac (probably from cirrus) running off another one of the lanes for the rear channel and controlled via i2c that the faceid sensors probably use, touchid also off the faceid i2c lanes, and selfie camera running off the lane for the selfie camera on the iPhone
