Yeah you might want to see if somebody has one that you can try out, Even now, Windows is in particularly amazing using touch inputs.
Derek's like a watered-down malibu
u asked and we answered
If nothing is maxed out or doing weird load on load cycles then it's the game and hardware is not going to fix it.
Yes but neat is the way
Ah, but the listing without PST in the title also has pics of it daisy chaining and then they also have a max version that's the same size fan and seems to be same specs but less idk? Maybe something is different?
maybe yea
i kinda only have windows installed for lockdown browser and cad
and adobe actually
Read my previous message
i main linux for everything else
not enough performance there that an OC to the 7900xtx couldn't match tbh, unlike a 5090 or rtx 6000 pro in comparison
the 5080 ocs very well
if it doesn't directly have pst on the end, it don't daisy chain
i think ill end up doing used thinkpad and galaxy tab or oneplus tablet maybe
thinkpads have good battery life generally right?
What's the diff between the pro max and regular just curious?
some do, look for p14/p16 or t14 models
ok
its like the 5080 vs 4090 both can be oced
rpm's and static pressure
2% difference in performance between a 5080 and 7900xtx, and that can be obtained via OC and alos is within a margin of error
depends
really?
i’d also take a look at elitebooks. hps version of the thinkpad for less than a thinkpad
also theres this, good deal?
the seller apparently doesnt reply back often so hopefully he replies
yes, depends on how well someone does the OC to the 7900xtx
you can oc the 5080 better
Impossible to say without knowing the exact CPU, RAM, and storage configuration, as well as the battery cycle count.
would need to see the specs but something tells me no quite quickly about it
this is the pst part to arctic fans @flat cliff
OK I think I'm just gonna return the fans and pick up the same ones with PTS from micro center. Assuming nobody buys them tonight or tomorrow morning they have 2 open box ones for $7 that's a dollar more on amazon I think? Not the 5 pack but I already own two case fans and so what if I spend $5 more its not gonna take a week to ship.
in raw performance theyre close but id buy a 9070xt for the native fsr4 support
5080 is faster than both and it has dlss4.5 and better rt and cuda
Do not pay anything more than the prices listed here.
Oh I misunderstood, yeah that's a downgrade, why change down?
No.
No shit the 5080 is also $1300
No point in buying a 5080 when the 5070ti exists tho tbh
5080 is way faster in llm
Who cares its $300 more than the 5070ti minimum
5070Ti 16GB are $1k tho.
what site is this
Yeah and the cheapest 5080 is 1300
Cheapest 9070xt is $729.99
Idk why derek even brought up a 5080
cuz i thought they wanted a upgrade
Yeah so it's 30% more $ to buy, offers 20% more performance, and will resale for 40% more down the line.
Fair enough
Bestlaptop.deals
i needed that site lmao
one of the good uses of ai lol
up to you dude, the multi pack is the one i'd go for personally, if you can't get a 5 pack of them the alternative would be thermalright tcl's
I'm back. Honestly, i've fallen out of keeping up with performance and pricing
My uncle wants a low-budget PC for his kid, to run roblox studio and minecraft
- Core 5, Core 7, R5 or R7
- 16GB RAM
- 1TB SSD
- the equivalent of a 60- or 70- class GPU
It's okay, It only lists things that have affiliate revenue links available for them. And like I understand. I do try to avoid models that have not been reviewed by Just Josh because at least his reviews are fairly consistent.
lol
Gaminglaptops.deals is Jarrods website
I should probably explain, It's Just Josh's website
Other than playground, apple has been pretty handy with their implementation of AI
i dont watch much tech yt lately, especially not ltt
budget?
Apple* intelligence, not artificial intelligence
70 class? So not low budget at all because you're talking about a PC that's going to be at least $2,000.
(70- class is 5070Ti BARELY)
Those specs are likely a recommendation from a retail employee. They're asking for a build below 1000SGD (750USD)
amd wise, you'd be looking at either a 7640/8640/8645 or 7840/8840/8845 cpu wise which you can just game on the igpu easily for those games, of you can fork out a good chunk and look into getting a laptop with the 8060s in on amd side or a b390 on intel's side
i think nvidia 60 class like 4060 5060
tbf 5070 is completely skippable when it comes to mobile dgpu's, it's either 5060 or go straight to 507ti
Oh umm .. is APU okay?
I was thinking of APU, too
Same on desktop tbh.
like i said, for amd side, these be the cpu's to look at, intel side you'd want to look at core ultra 200 series or panther lake with the b390's
I forwarded your advice to him
With that budget it basically NEEDS to be unless You are willing to go used. Assuming You want anything resembling reasonable perf/$
Wait laptop or desktop?
760m/860m (gtx 1630 equivalent) on the r5's and 780m/880m (gtx 1650 equivalent) on the r7's on amd side
The stupid thing is, the selection looks like a desktop list so i was intending for it to be used. However, the teacher who gave out the recommendation prefers new over used
teacher?
Why am i doing a presales role for infra acquisition

I owe yall one. Still, its too early on a saturday
I could but I don't need all 5 I'm paying more per fan but I don't need as many. My case now has 2 but I need better airflow if I'm gonna switch to my 3D print one its only PETG. Or maybe I won't even buy a third fan and stick to 4 right now? Idk I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the help so far. Price per fan I think I'd pay one fan less for 2 less then the 5 pack I don't need.
Stuff to think about the open box fans are cheaper then amazon per fan in singles. Anyways thanks have what I need to decide now, should have checked amazon before so I don't make a second trip.
Desktop honestly 8700G hits just right, pair with 1080p screen and boom great starting place.
This is good
this is quite literally a 7840h put on desktop format
I know my uncle's budget and I was almost convinced he could get a Macbook Neo

Now if you say hey I want a $500 laptop.... That gets more difficult because gaming APUs home turf is in laptops and OEM charge a premium.
Yes I though They were building a PC, not just buying a laptop
I mean .... No BUTTT m3 air 👀
sometimes a laptop is the more budget friendly for what's going to be played on it, also depends on the kid's age
Oh yeah, he just now told me its for a 14yo niece
I rarely see that be the case when you say $500 maxed budget. Because with the laptop you're paying for the keyboard the screen the case the battery, etc.
Throw the magic keyboard on it sell it to him for $700. "komPutER"
I just got it T_T
They plays the fortz nite and amoungDus
I use my ipad to read comics and watch youtube
I would've sprung for the neo if i didn't get it
It's slower than your ipad
By a lot
Comes with warranty and a full laptop
usually yeah, but i raise you these
A charging brick, too
Yeah but like 👀 a LOT slower ...
I get you
They said new
prefers new
used -new was stated
My second choices for him would be a M2 macbook pro
so new was preferable but at the same time, used can be considered if the specs are right
that elitebook with the 2tb nvme inside looks juicy
on a side note, anyone who's used a handheld that has the amd z1e inside already knows what the performance of a 7840u is like

Wouldn't you just m5 at that point?
That's 60% over budget
M2 pro chips, The battery life wasnt as good as m3 pro chips, but better performance.
Ahh I thought it was selling for $999 us when new air is $1099 rn, less if you get a m4 that's in the 700's
Is that intel based or apple silicon
unified memory, its apple
So exactly what I originally said.
The NEO is designed for schools, because the m1 is expensive to manufacture and they finally stopped production in 2025.
For all intents and purposes the A18P is an m1(-) in multithread, and a m3(+) in single thread.
The ONLY miss was the battery, I know Apple doesn't like to do mixed material products and they had to make it out of aluminum if they wanted it to be able to be fanless...
But I would rather a 60wh battery vs the 36... Then we could GENUINELY have a conversation about 24-hour real world battery life.

does anyone here own a blackwidow v4 mini?
My M1 iPad Pro go BRRRRRRRRR. Love this thing. It even has 2TB of storage that I absolutely do not need for this device (Got it for over half off on Ebay brand new)
a18 probably performs better than m1 considering the iphones cooling got it just below m1
Does Intel need a new board at 6th gen or 7th gen? For CPU? My friend has a really old PC with a 6700k and not the money to just spend $300+ on new PC right now but we wanna emulate games like little big planner but 6700k slightly not able to fully run multiplayer. So can we put in 7th gen or need new board?
gen 6,7,8,9 share lga 1151 socket
8th and 9th gen share the same board? So the random old OEM PC with a 6th gen can put in a 9700k?
I thought they same socket no allow bios upgrade for 8/9th gen?
Or no?
this is correct
6/7 share a bios 8/9 share a bios
all share the same socket
so 6 cannot upgrade to 9th gen
i hear that you can mod it
but no clue how
Me and my friends are having debate if a 9th gen cpu can go into a motherboard that is from the 6th gen. I said even though it's the same socket it's not the same chipset. He said it would work, who is right?
So only 7th gen upgrade that's not that much extra dam.
yea
i7 7700k is the best for lga 1151-1
1151 has 2 versions of the socket, it requires a mod of the cpu and also messing with the bios to get a 9th gen cpu working on a mobo for 6th gen
intel really likes to release the same socket twice
nope, this is the only time they released the same socket twice
2011-X
completely different tbh, it's not the same as how 1151 has a v1 and v2
ok
1151 v1 = 6th +7th gen, 1151v2 = 8th + 9th gen
it's a minor change in the pad layout
2011-1 = 2011v1 + 2011v2, 2011-3 = 2011v3 + 2011v4
but i get what youre saying
OK so that not happening just getting them to upgrade the CPU at all will be a lot. I don't know them in person and I doubt they know what a bios is and if I try and explain they call it big scary at least at first. Dam so just 7th gen it is that not much better then the 6700k they have and the 6700k not quite able to reliably do LBP multiplayer emulation.
yeah, 7700k would be the one to get
Dam, that's back when its margin of error better per CPU release from Intel? The only reason a few gen later better for real is margin of error better adds up after a while?
Ello
Isn't that not much better? Or I wrong?
I know it better but like it worth convincing them to buy the CPU and do the upgrade when they call this big scary already or?
If its 1-2% better it not worth it.
it's better, i believe it has multithreading
OK so I'll think about it. I wanna convince them because I wanna play LBP together and rpcs3 people (well someone on the discord) said yeah for single player but maybe prob not but try it for multi player.
So better CPU will help that and they have the i7 when i5 is min spec for some other games they play like farming sim so it help there as well but idk you can always play at slightly less then min spec to boot so yeah not to helpful min specs.
Anyways but they don't got much money at all so...it be little hard to convince them to upgrade especially if it not to much performance and they would call doing all this scary they that kinda person even though I solder motherboard fixes for lunch with my skill. (OK not the missing pin LGA sockets but the other kind.)
I thought the 6th gen also had that?
Depends on which processor. If you're referring to the i7-6700k, then yes, it had Hyperthreading.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/compare.html?productIds=97129,88195
Dam 7th gen i7s go for like $50 still that's dirt cheap to me but not to them they in Europe so prob more like $60 and to them they less fortunate in Germany so that not just yeah what the hell kinda money especially after they just bought farm sim 25.
I want them to upgrade so they can play farm sim and little big planner together a little better but might have to just say let's see how it goes with what you got. (I would have advised against farm sim and they bought off discount code website seeing as i5 6500 is min spec but they no ask me and no returns now).
Yes I was talking 6700k vs whatever you can put in the prebuilt motherboard that it has.
It looks like that's a 7700k and that just looks like an over clocked 6700k. So dam basically no with the budget they have that not good enough to tell them to buy with how little performance gain there is (or I wrong on this) the fact that they in Europe and how much the CPU off eBay gonna cost and that they financially less fortunate then a lot of us.
At this point, I would not upgrade from a 6th gen to 7th gen processor. They're better off saving their money to upgrade to a whole new platform. Intel's 6th / 7th gen CPUs are 10 and 9 years old, respectively, at this point.
Prob not that that ever gonna be any time soon. $35-40 for me is nothing I'll say fuck it, go to the movies and spend that on a pretzel the tickers and popcorn alone but I know I'm more fortunate then most (maybe not in US but a lot still here as well).
I wanna tell them to just upgrade and be slightly smoother for the gaming together but we might just needa make what they have work unfortunately so rough farm sim and maybe maybe not LBP online dam.
Yikes
Got these for free today courtesy of the American healthcare system being wasteful as hell, I'm aware that these are haswell era products but what can I do with them?
I really only see usability in two of the things here but maybe someone has ideas
The RAM could be installed in a compatible PC. Same with the CPUs. Same with the GPU.
If you don't have a compatible PC, you could get one, or sell them as parts to someone else.
I could, but the ram is rdimm which is where the issue arises
The compatibility is abysmal dogshit
install it in any board that supports RDIMMs
there's dozens of platforms, and hundreds of mobos/cpus
Hmmmmmmm
Suggestions?
anything with rdimm support, take your pick
I have a school
Lenovo 300e Yoga Chromebook Gen 4
Disabled: dev mode LDE crosh USB boot
Like you said, there are hundreds of CPUs, I have no idea where to start here
How do I add my own browser based on Chromium?
i mean start by deciding what you actually want to do with said computer
if you don't know how to answer this question, you don't have the relevant skills to design your own browser
Oh hey I have this exact Chromebook and probably an equally restrictive district, you are locked to chrome and bing iirc
contact the system supervisor and have them unlock it for you, otherwise we're unable to help you as doing so would be illegal
Most likely a server of some sort, thinking about storing games on it
"a server of some sort" is equivalent to saying "a computer of some sort"
I hate the restrictions and need to design this browser as a school project luckily I have an unrestricted M5 max for development
get an LGA 2011-3 system and have fun
contact the system supervisor and have them unlock it for you, otherwise we're unable to help you as doing so would be illegal
or just use that M5 max
I was looking into that, there are so many cheap x99 boards on eBay
Take your pick of ones that have the features you want
I can’t really bring a 16 inch personal device into 6th grade
Real quick, how old are you
13 or <13
13
I'm gonna just pretend you're 100% truthful and go with that
Just sweep the elephant in the room under that rug over there...
I mean if it's a school project, how exactly does the teacher intend for you to do the project
It’s coding and I got crosh unlocked for it but 4GB of RAM would take days to build Chromium
Again, it's a school project presumably assigned by a teacher, ask said teacher how you are meant to work on the project
Ok I’ll do that Monday
Apparently one of those cheap microatx boards out of china actually supports it
And it can be bought brand new
no one actually manufacturers X99 boards anymore, "brand new" means sitting in a warehouse for the last 6+ years
New-old stock. Not always a bad thing... just something to keep in mind. Certain components (like capacitors) don't stay minty fresh on a shelf forever. You're unlikely to get warranty support for new-old stock either.
Still unused tho
Unfortunately they don't stay minty fresh when they have been in use by a server for the last 10 years either
buy from ebay, and make sure you get something with a return policy
I will eventually, I have another project I'm working on right now and I happened to get my hands on this stuff
Alright odd question
I’m looking to get a camera for my dorm room and I was looking into just getting a really long cable and connecting it to my computer and running background code to have it detect people and everything.
My one issue is finding a cheap camera that doesn’t have some shitty 2 foot cable that can’t be removed.
Any suggestions for cameras? Don’t need anything fancy
Maybe not an odd question it seems average.
Addition: cannot connect to internet
Edit: at least not a required connection
Extension cable

No, no
13-25 and 25-50
i hate that i'm in that first category with literal children
... hah
i find this place to be trustable
Iroh, how to backup an entire hard drive over an ethernet cable?
context, i have a compaq presario m2000 with all the stuff and XP, I don't want XP but i want to keep a backup of it
Weird question, but are there any monitors that behave like TVs?
I'm trying to use a capture card to capture my Steam Deck, and it won't display a video out on any computer monitor. On TVs, it works completely fine. But I don't have space for a TV on my desk.
there are small tvs
my little brother has a 19" tv as his monitor and works fine with hdmi
so there are tvs that look like monitors
Jeez, that's small haha. I'll have to see what there is then.
usb of the devil
I assume this allows my monitor to have working usb port
God damn there are 2 of them per monitor
I have total of 6
they're usb B 3.0
ig they'll work for external storage unless you are hooking anything faster than an SSD
it's USB3, usually used for PC to monitor connection, for printers (but those usually only do 2.0) and for 3.5" hard drive adapters.
oh i was going Paranoid with the Sata 3 part
3 am here, we're on the same deliriums
Ah so it wouldn't be able to reach 400MB/s
Its whatever then
in fact, usb b 3.0 is supposed to reach 450mb/s
like this
Oh really
Just to explain further, I have a simple sata to usb adapter but it's very short
And my computer is pretty far away so it's hard for me to swap drives
And was thinking what if I connect it to the monitor
if it uses the same connector, yes, you can replace it, up to 3 meters offcially for USB3
But anyways side topic...
I thought maybe I can use the stand my monitor came with to get one of my monitors to be the same height but why the hell is this thing so big
if monitor has USB3 hub, sure, that is the point of USB hubs
Yeah I have 6 of those cables
no, i meant you can obviously use that cable if the target device already has the connector for that cable
Hmmm wait is it 400MB/s split across 2 usb a
well yes, if you use both at same time. You can still just use a long cable instead, if 3 meters is 'long enough'
Also sata to usb is already one adapter
If I do sata to usb to monitor to PC
won't there be too much overhead?
again, no.
monitor and usb hub are different things
you are doing sata to usb to usb
only issue would be if the monitor hub is passive rather than active
But there is still a hub in the monitor I assume that converts
USB 3.0 extension cables are also a thing
True
also what are you copying that you need the 400 mb/s
What I'm supposed to do with 40cm cable
if it's a spinning hard drive I'll blow up
Sata ssd
video files? games? documents?
you do also know that if both pcs are connected to the same modem you can use a shared folder
and most of the times Ethernet cables and ports on modern pcs are gigabit+ even if your data plan is like 300 mbps the system can operate at gigabit
you need a nas dude
I already have a nas
my goodness
Also 1000Mbps is not enough for sata SSDs
that’s like 10k in silicon in this economy
It will saturate whole bandwidth
hopefully you connect each of them to the PC at least once a 3 months, or more often.
Yep
So it's fine to connect them to my monitors?
NAS’s aren’t limited to gigabit
My hardware is
my NAS is 10g, and i could aggregate up to 40g
I will upgrade sometime
yes
what do you guys think is the solution for the ram prices?
waiting till the AI bubble pops
buy a ddr2 server with 256gb of ram
Nothing you can do
or theft
Its out of your control, don't try to control something outside your control
Anyways
what if it never pop
Waiting for the heat death of society Machine Learning bubble to pop.
it will
i seen that dumb video too 😄
This is so infuriating
I cannot to align anything I hate it
I thought about using the monitor stand that it came with but it takes so much space (side monitors)
only if they create a new type of ram cheaper and more affordable with the same properties, hmmmmm...
"this is so infuriating"
why?
not possible
Because I don't have access to purchase good monitor arms in my country
That's why
also the price to produce the ram isn’t the problem
Can relate
it’s the demand to supply ratio
where do you live at?
Moldova
it’s a largely fixed supply, with an ever growing demand
is who controls it, right?
fuck you all with all the letters
oh
nope, it’s the fact the demand is through the roof and into the stratosphere
you make a problem and sell a solution
what
well... take a look
hmmmm, makes sense
ram supply is also largely fixed, since it essentially runs at max production constantly, and takes years to expand the production capabilities
what matters is not how many pixels but how big is your screen i think, i probably heard it somewhere
both matters
Did they change their mind about not wanting to expand production?
No, but it takes years to build new fabs
Or they still standing on business
1044480 pixels (768p) vs 1440000 pixels
Yeah but they said they won't anyways
Even if they decide to expand production, it can take multiple business years to actually produce...
One of the 2 from south korea
that's true and is very expensive to build more factories and being able to atend the demand
I mean there was an official response a while ago it was few months
yall crying abt ram
the cost isn’t really the issue, it’s the time investment
i’m not, i got enough ram
the big monopolies
i say that
a plurality of “monopoly” is rather funny
true
well, i wish we had enough competition for this market
is it normal for my system to become extremley unstable after any type of overclocking?
looks cool
it's really rare and in fact you should buy a new pc and give me your old one
it’s not even that they go out of their way to become monopolies, it’s just that it’s incredibly difficult to produce high quality, high yield samples in mass
Rather than rapidly expanding facilities, we will pursue a strategy of maintaining long-term profitability.
We will minimize the risk of oversupply through a capital expenditure (CAPEX) strategy that balances customer demand and pricing.
– Samsung – via Hankyung
its a pc recentley upgraded from a ryzen 7 1700 to a ryzen 9 5900xt
100% since youre going beyond what is expected normally when we are talking about perfomance
given you’re asking that, you’re inexperienced with overclocking, which means it’s quite easy for you to cause instability
well, overclocking is making hardware run at above it's designed specifications it's obvious that it'll become unstable
This was a while ago so I'm wondering if they changed their mind
oh ok
that it can become unstable, not that it will
don't overclock
damn dude, i wish it was far easier
you get negligible performance gains on new hardware
lithography hard
cpus, yes, ram, depends, gpu, depends
i have seen a video about it, it is extremely difficult to make those chips, especially for processors
have you seen the dude who made his own lithography
and made his own chip
i mean it's not complicated to understand but the actual practice is insane even for decades ago
guys, why we can increase much more violently the clock of a integrated gpu than of a dedicated gpu
and newer technologies literally explode mercury beads at an amazing rate
thats soooo coool
igpus don't run that fast i think
yeah, it is like rocket science stuff
and since when can you increase their clock
Interesting thingamajib
such a thing
Nice. A headphone hanger.
That's extremely useful actually
well, i will give you an example. i have a ryzen 5 8600g with its integrated graphics which run natively at 2.8ghz i could put it to run at 3.4ghz
Bit I am unsure if I'll end up using the stands anyway there is no reason for the stand to be so god damn big
40 gb hdd is brutal
oh i never touched an amd processor from the Ryzen series lmao
you can through the bios only
Like why is the stand the same size as the monitor.... 32"
my newest and most powerful cpu is an i3 10100f
because that's the size of a fucking tv
damn bro
how do you even fit 32" of screen into your eyes
sounds good, i will look that up
its a good enough cpu
down in Argentina it's considered good
up there and to the right on Europe it's garbage and outdated
Me getting 15 - 25% more performance on my CPU and 20 - 25% more performance on my GPU from overclocking:
how could people not destroy the chat channel with spam and bad images in here, this sounds like a very pacific place and i like it
moderators who lurk
oh, so you are from argentina
hi mod
:).
mhm
it's a big place with beautiful lands
im above you though (geographically speaking)
and horribly out of date technology
similar to my country
Yeah nevermind, same height as my arm mount except it takes most of my desk space...
my honest question is; why there is so many monitors in the same place
For desks where I can't use VESA mounting arms, this is why I avoid monitors that use V-shaped stands. I prefer the style of Dell's square base monitor stands.
I mean I guess I could place the stand on some books
Yeah it's pretty good
Look at the other stand
Much smaller profile on the desk
But idk if that one is certified for curved 32"...
Yeah idk what to do
I guess I'll live with crooked monitors...
My cat is sitting on one of my other monitors
cute cat
That's not the usual response I get but I agree
well, i thought at the first time looking at it that it was a rat. but i changed my mind to say it lol
but your cat looks unique, rare skin you cat got
Usually it's rat, testicles and its synonyms, goblin and gremlin and other
He does feel like testicles especially when oily
Anyways
I shall try to figure this out
Actually do y'all reckon I could sell those Samsung arm stands for anything worthwhile (right one)
well, my question would be as follow; why do cats developed this type of skin
They feel quite premium but no idea who would buy arm stands
Human made
Selective breeding
Like pugs dogs
yeah, i dont think that natural selection would allow something like this to exist. I dont see a lot of benefits on looking like this
No hair is a benefit for human
oh
Except now they get skin cancer way easier
i forgot that we dont have hair either
And they can't regulate body temperature sometimes and die from heat
it worked for us at least
I don't mind my cat laying on my PC
damn
Though he did climb one time over my monitors because he couldn't sneak under them
the good thing is since he/she doesn't have fur is far better since itll not left hair behind everywhere
I'm glad I have arm mounts because if I had arm stands it would of been a different story
oh, ain't you afraid of he breaking stuff?
Upgrading my 14 pro max
sounds good, i personally prefer android
Didn't break anything yet
i hope it continues like this
it already look amazing, im just concerned about the amount of cables under the desk lol
Adding a 4th display didn't help especially since those arm mounts weren't tall enough even back then
No that was before
This is now
I've moved my desk from the window and yeah I can't align the monitors anymore no matter what
i dont think that there is space sufficiently for a fourth display
Look at the message I replied to
maybe they are not level
They are not level, not the same height, and are tilted forwards and are not aligned
well, if it is working then is completely fine
Oh and the distance between each of them is not equal
Idk
thats what i thought
I am thinking I could swap my side monitors to use their original stand and I place the stand on some books or something
And I keep the middle monitor on an arm mount
try hanging them from the wall
Don't have access to good wall mounts in my country either
damn
Like if I use arm stands I need to raise the stands by around 10 cm
where do you live at?
Moldova
Though I'll be honest I could have the side monitors to be lower, won't be same height but it would be somewhat aligned
Yeah I'll give a try
yeah, i dont know how it would look like. i might look crooked
i just noticed, i have asked you the same question bf lol
I mean the solution would be to purchase an sim rig
But there is none in my country
I could buy from aboard but they already cost ~1000 dollars
With taxes I would be paying like 1350USD
It feels absurd to pay such amount for some metal IMO
How's thermalright cases in the $150 USD range compared to Lian Li cases in the same range?
oh, i was going to buy one yesterday. but i changed my mind because i was afraid of not using it a lot and regreating after it
Can give it to me for free if you won't use it
yeah thats a lot of money
Indeed
i didnt bought it yet, i was going to
Ah
I should probably read the manual
There is warning stickers all over this thing
I forgot how heavy those things are
yeah
Why the ever living FUCK are second hand 5800x3d 450$
It was at 350$ a month 2 ago
What the fuck
welcome to erf
that’s two tray 7700
brand new or used from china

or a 7800x3d + 7400f
more like 3
Do you guys think I could run a 280mm with no fans on a 40 watt CPU?
Which is better
why tho
My friend gave me an AIO with no fans
wich cpu is it
I5 12500t
you mean no screws either ? you can always zip tie other fans to it. If you have screws for it, then even better, just use any other fans
Parandroid what are your thoughts
you could grab a pair of Arctic P14's for like 6-7 euros a piece and call it a day
without fans there is nothing to cool the radiator other than convection. Even a 35W TDP CPU iwll put out enough heat to make AIO too hot after prolonged use
I've got a 240mm AIO right now but the one he gave me is a bit nicer
you can use any 140mm fan on the 280mm AIO
Im aware
Hi chat, how's it going? 👋
Just a general question on what type of thing to pursue next:
I have two almost-identical servers (i7 4790/4790K 16GB DDR3 GTX760/GTX660 with each different storage amounts) in two different locations (one at home with no internet access and runs completely local and one at a online accessible location) which both run Windows 11 Pro, both can be accessed via remote desktop & SSH through their own methods obviously due to one machine requiring to be in a local network.
I've messed around with port forwarding, RDP, SSH, FTP and Hyper-V with no clue what to try and do next. Considering I'm under the age of 18 and have been doing this in my own free time, I do consider this a very good achievement to get into my ideal pathway as a possible Server Maintenance officer or similar.
Any new things I could try on these machines?
Thanks y'all, peace ✌️
put 4 monitors vertically
yes
get off windows
try a different os. you can try and deploy a bunch of OSs easily using ProxMox
ive been a big fan of TrueNas recently kind of goated
I've been trying out TrueNAS, and other linuxes via HyperV as I'm undecided to switch due to data being stored on drives that have a large amount of on hours and the way they're configured may not be easy to move them from windows to Linux.
@wheat torrent
yeah youll probably want to do external data backups before swapping os of your nas
the datasets almost certainly wont mix well
I'm not a security guard at a mall 🥹
Drawing tablet
well the second one you drew makes no sense at all
i would know
if you have smaller screens then put them in my example 2 at the most right or left
im going down to two (ultrawide + main)
4 is perfect
All are 32"
then do one of this
I can't do that man
Whole problem is I don't have access to tall enough arm mounts
do a rhombus
And sim racing setups are way way way too expensive
what about wall mount
two mounted on wall, two on arms (the table)
there is always a way. for any budget. some sketchiness may apply.
i mean the way you want it ark is you will end up with a 96”+ wide screen
with bezzels and gaps almost 100”
i dont have a good cpu cooler so my test bench is using an intel stock cooler on an am4 platform
100” is 2.5 meters man
gravity mounted
This is what ive been using for months and it's ideal for me I'm not switching to another layout
My problem is that with time the monitors drop down because shit mounts
250cm is a royal bed diagnonally to put it in a perspective
tighten it
And I even had zipties reinforced
oh you have curved monitors and a flat
Or course
you could just blow up your setup
This is how it looks right now (the legs on right are just for size reference)
So I was thinking of putting the side monitors on their own OEM stands right
And I think this would allow me to align them better at the cost of some desk space...
Does this make more sense
I can't buy them
they are like 50$
There is no good mount in my country for 32" monitors
single arm mounts for each one
Best option I can buy would cost me 1350 USD after taxes
can you not import
if its 1350 then its not the best option
Yeah
you can fly to another country and bring them back for cheaper
Delivery fees are like 100-200 USD
wtf
And then taxes are 30% with the delivery fees
And around 20-30dollars for broker fees
my aio from china’s delivery fee costed me $5 for express
You don't live in a shithole as mine
including the freight forwarder
check aliexpress
where do you live
where
Moldova
ok moldova makes sense
just travel and bring stuff with you… you live next to ukraine
or would that get hugely taxed
that is part of eu
oh whoops
Like those mount arms in the picture on paper "should" support 8kg monitors... But If you look at the tilt it's so big
I tighten them as much as I can and they drop right away
well the issue of curved monitors is that they center off mass is further than of flat monitors
Even the metal is bent
Yep
There are some more expensive arm mounts but the problem is they aren't tall enough
And for 32 inch I need quite tall mounts
Especially with my drawing tablet under
then don’t get a “monitor” arm but some kind of industrial arm second hand
and do some diy
he lives in moldova
...and?
The population in my country is like 2 million
The people who buy such hardware is probably a very very small percentage
So the chances I can find something used is so slim
no quality arms available
the person I bought the monitors from did have a sim rig but he said he paid like 3k euro for it after taxes
Importing sim rigs is even more expensive because of how heavy they are
no reasonable delivery company exists that wants to deliver to moldova
i’ll be the first one
Then hop in the car and go over to Romania
by reasonable i mean cheap
he doesn’t want to do that i guess
anyways i live in EU and it’s kind of a hell to import things if you don’t know what you’re doing
€15-30 (depending on the company) fee if you don’t deal up with the customs yourself
€3 processing fee
fixed import tax (23%)
Here is aliexpres for example
- duties 0-25%
326 USD shipping fee
cheaper than 1350
Right but the 1350 is a sim rig
wtf
This is some cheap ass mount
and in my country (not in some other eu countries) if you don’t want to pay that €15 companies charge to deal up with customs themselves you gotta get a special type of electronic id
basicly if your item is over €150 or doesn’t have prepaid vat, even if it’s worth €2 you’ll end up paying as a newbie at least €18-19 in taxes
yalls country’s suck bruh wtf 15€ to deal with customs
and that’s just eu
Idk what this is but it costs 470 USD to buy and 470 to ship
And add 30% on top for taxes
lol not really, dhl and as well some other major carriers charge €30
china post charges $0
but other eu countries allow you more easily to initiate your own customs process
right, but china post is not the way western companies ship things
btw china post hands those packages to local carriers nowadays too
so even if it goes through china post, i still get charged €15
I bought my tablet from china
I got it with a student discount on top of some discount the company was doing at the time
When it arrived in my country the border tax motherfuckers made me pay tax on the MSRP price when the product was brand new
They said discounts don't matter
But it's not a new product so it's always on discount it's a few years old
After I paid I had to wait around a month or so
For them to do the papers so I could pick it up
I was so pissed the whole time tbh
You could build that whole thing yourself for just the cost of the shopping fee
Aluminium extrusion is cheap
16:9 on a 4:3 sucks so so bad
when are we bringing back 3:2 to PC
No, rather, I've heard the kids say it's "cringe" or something like that.
is firmark downloaded yet
shhhhh
hot take lcd on some oled phones are fire example xs max because especially in bed 1 they are more durable 2 no pwm refreshing
ive heard about pwm refreshing but i used a monitor that would constantly flicker for over 3 years and became immune to it
pwm flicker?
it's now at 62% and i believe it was at 80% something earlier
or more idk
it immediately dropped to 33%
poor xp has no idea on hows the battery doing
we shall hibernate!
ok I probably shouldn't be here
I'm a programmer, not a PC builder
uhhnmmm...
does anyone use Neovim-
only for that specific scenario
otherwise you're downgrading the experience
I'm not gonna buy a flagship product that has an LCD screen
LCD drains the battery more significantly due to its backlight
I'm currently using a very fragile phone and I'd never choose LCD over OLED
i now have a project idea
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfSO-LCKmrA
If you're interested, support the lab and get deeper technical access:
https://www.patreon.com/DrSemiconductor
I used to daily an iPhone 11 and upgrading to an OLED phone was a whole new experience
Durability on OLED isn't an issue either aswell
im betting he means brun in
You rarely ever break the screen itself rather the glass protection the screen has
eeeehhhh
i VERY rarely see the glass being broken and the actual screen itself being fine
but yea no if you drop your phone it being LCD or OLED has little to say
OLEDs have also come a long way so burn in aint as big of a issue but yes can still happen but its important to remember even LCDs or other tech like it can burn in
I use micro
why didnt it work 😡
nice. switching to cd
why is there so much macbook neo hate when it’s the only mac id consider buying
maybe because of the wallpaper
cuz the people who hate it doesn't know snapdragon laptops exist
?
both are 'mobile chips'
snapdragon laptops are not using phone chips
Some do
they're under the arm architecture, which is the norm for phone chips
oh? i didn’t know they made ones that weren’t X elite
hence it's in quotations
can’t really compare
certain applications cant run on arm
check ltts 30 day snapdragon daily challenge
yeah but they still aren’t mobile chips
But the x1/x2 chips are more comparable to the m series
an x elite is a very different power class to an iphone chip like an iphone chip is very different to M series silicon
besides apple has been on ARM for years now, nobody cares about the architecture
reminds i still need to try asahi at some point..
If you think anyone in the general population knows anything about laptops other than the brand name and the price, you are mistaken
Nobody in the real world understands what ARM or x86 are. The people who hate the Neo just do not understand what the average person uses a laptop for
Before the x elite series release, they used phone chips, they sucked
That's probably why people are hating on apple doing it, Microsoft's attempt sucked
Except, Ms doing it sucked for many reasons, only one of which was the chip used
I have an x1 laptop, it's fine, but it's not perfect
oh yes of course yeah
completely ignored them my bad
The fact that some things don't just work is a problem, but was much more of one the first time around, compounded with the slower CPU
The MacBook neo will be just fine for most people because it's just a bit slower MacBook (vs current lineup)
Which is fine for most people
i need a bit of help. i just got a broken iPhone XS Max with 256GB of storage. It got a broken screen and backglass.
its currently on iOS 15.6.1, can i sell if for more if i leave it on that iOS version and repair it or should i just repair and upgrade it to iOS 18.7.6?
i’m tempted to get an X elite laptop after this one dies, linux on arm looks interesting to me
FWIW, mine runs win11
The other issue with X1 Elite was that it was marketed towards power users, but most of the software a power user requires doesn't run on ARM at all. They were needlessly expensive but couldn't do things people needed them to do
Also not fast enough really
i guessed yeah, its meant to be not bad from what ices heard. linux on arm just looks like an interesting learning bit for me
My arm laptop is a x1p-64-100
It' was $500, it's not meant to be a powerhouse of a laptop
The end effect was "You can have better battery life with worse software compatibility, and the software that does work is going to run poorly."
X1 Plus was a much better middle ground
Just so long as you're getting it as a hobby, not for real work... You're going to be fighting it a lot
I use mine mostly for Firefox, but also a hint of IDEA (which is in Java so runs natively)
you got experience?
And it's perfectly fine, for that usecase
everything i do on my laptop can be done in a browser so it cant be thag bad
Not specifically with Linux on arm. I've had too many compatibility issues with Linux on x86 laptops, and too many issues with Windows on ARM. Combining them felt like an absolute recipe for disaster
With Linux ARM isn't an issue, so long as your CPU/system is supported
ive also been tempted to buy an m1/2 macbook second hand and shove asahi on it
You issue if you have one will be Linux, regardless of CPU
yeah ive gathered it’s not wfyl
awful*
As soon as you try to use a device outside of its specified use case, you are going to have issues
I use Linux no problem on many machines, including some ARM ones
distribution? i’d most likely be on arch for arm cus im most used to it
Linux for ARM is in a far better spot than Windows for ARM is
Depending on your use case
In no small part because most things are OSS, so it's just someone recompiling it for ARM
I do a significant amount more on my computer than browsing and using OSS
Ubuntu usually
Do any of those work on Linux in the first place?
any idea how battery life differs between windows and linux for arm? in my experience on x86 linux is always a bit better but arm i have no idea
About 50% of them, hence why I'm usually on a Mac, or Windows if I really really really have to.
I'm saying that the uarch matters less for Linux than it does Windows
Your problem is Linux in the first place
Mostly that'll be down to sleep states working or not (device support)
so not much difference?
I haven't noticed significant differences myself, but I also don't use multiple oses on one computer usually
And rarely laptops in general
So, I just don't have experience there
I just love how the new CRKD Les Paul controllers have the same problem with the frets connection from 18-19 years ago, and the ol' paper trick fixes it like the old Les Paul controllers
interesting thanks
i use my laptop at for work and college, so it would never have to be anything powerful compared to my gaming pc
My main desktop has a 9950x3d w/ 128gb, my main laptop is an x1p w/ 16gb,
I realised this too, just sold off my laptop this morning
I still have a couple laptops, I just don't use them for much
One windows (arm) one Linux (x86)
Absolutely 0 reason for me to be holding on to a laptop with a 7940HS and a 4060 in it, sold it off for as much as I could before the resale value drops any further
Sometimes a portable computer is helpful, and sometimes I break my desktop
I remember I bought an Asus Zenbook duo for uni, and just didn't end up using it/needing it
I'm gonna get my hands on the new M5 MBA
Oh, yea, both of mine are thin and lights
I got it cause it's got a cool gimmick now it's just collecting dust
The "cheapest" one with 512GB and 16G would be the M5 at ~$800 USD resold
Fair enough then
I've got the education discount as well, I rather pay the $200 more and get the model released 3 days ago
Yee, fair enough
Though I think i'm gonna hold off on it till summer, it comes any macbook purchase comes with free airpods
How do they validate the education discount? I've seen people wildly abuse that with other vendors
No clue, I believe it's just whether or not you have a .edu email
They don't really
Yeah I don't think apple in the US actually validates it
Afaik
That's a brutal trade in value, what are you exchanging?
probably a 6s
2018 MBA
Think it's the base spec
i got an s23, i changed the ram from 4->6 , restarted and now it says sim locked
no password works puk, pin, sim

anyone here know a good place/way to sell a used pc?
its an am5 system with a 6750xt, 32 gigs of ddr5 6000, etc. pretty modern hardware. im from the uk
32 gb
❓
expensive
i got in 2024
what the hell
THIS is crazy ffs
1985 here so, pretty much yes
ebay is the better one in the uk, and depending on the cpu, that's roughly a 600-800 system
awesome
so no selling individual parts?
?
the 6750xt goes for £200-240 on it's own
the thing is, the rest of the system's specs
it has a 7500f
and some random wifi b650 i forgot the name of
ram here: #tech-chat-1 message
inflation
are you even using the melting connector
pretty much as i said for a valuation then in total, but why sell and not just upgrade the cpu/gpu ?
when i bought it i wanted to play games but my wants have shifted from that to being able to run openbsd
i also just dont need hardware this powerful lol
Laptop is peak for music in a 2007 tv while cleaning and reorganising my room
So, will be there a m5max 2tb+ ram version?
casual linux laptop on the back 💀
tbf it's not that powerful, it's kinda bare minimum hardware for the past 2-3 years
the most intensive thing i do on my pc is compile things
i dont really need this lol
It’s a thinkpad with fedora that’s playing the music
which realistically can take a good amount of ram and cpu power, and with some compiling the cache of the ssd
im not compiling chromium or anything though lol
am5 is far too much for me
id like to try getting a lot of mini pcs and use them as a cluster
Even if it's more than you need, may just want to keep it because your already have it
You get some extreme diminishing returns on a downgrade at the low end
this is like the question someone asked yesturday about going from a 5700x3d to a 9900k
literally going backwards in performance
Ok, with the stupid prices of a 5700x3d right now, downgrading that can make sense
they already had the 5700x3d from my understanding
context would be good on my part sorry
i want the money from it too
its not just for the funs i promise
Yes, selling that to replace with a non-x3d part may make sense right now
Iirc, the am4 x3d parts have very inflated prices right now
would be fine, but at the same time it's a complete platform change in the process
do you guys know what i should do with a intel core i7 32gb of ram 256gb samsung ssd 27inch late 2011 imac
the lga1700 meta has arrived
Yes, hence earlier "but, just the CPU"
a very very dead platform
wdym
That socket only had one generation of CPU, meh
1151 v2, as dead as a dodo and no more cpu's made
oh yeah
2 gens tbh
It depends, which one?
do you guys know what i should do with a intel core i7 32gb of ram 256gb samsung ssd 27inch late 2011 imac
alder lake and raptor lake are lga 1700
One, that doesn't kill itself
the i5s are fine
🤣 fair enough
i5? that sucks
the non -'k'/'kf' of all 3 are fine
the i7s and i9s are actively trying to get themselves killed on a daily basis
mine already did
13400,13700,13900 all fine because doesn't OC
only the 'K' and 'KF' models
265k supremacy
run linux on it
you still could
also my current pc does not support openbsd well (or even linux) which of course i could fix by getting a new motherboard but its a hassle
linux natively works with amd though?
not the issue, its networking hardware
shouldve specified sorry
Grab a cheap nic that works?
my case is matx and my gpu covers the other pcie card
pcie expansion cables exist so you can move it around for the nic
Also m.2 nics
i could do that, but i would lose money from that
i want to sell it for money mainly lol
1 card, 1 onboard, 3 ethernet connections acting as one on win 10
when you combine the connections hehe
i dont use windows in any capacity anywhere at all
the more and more i watch retro computing content the more and more i want to get into retro computing
Quick question do I plug this connector straight into the GPU? It fits, I just don’t know if I need anything in between
It’s the one labeled 600W
Hmmmmm
Is it worth using "Super Resolution" or "Overdrive" on GIGABYTE monitors?
This is why ram is 400% more expensive
Becausr an ai moddel labled an egg milk
ah yes my viewbait technique I havent used this since the heian era
probably not. overdrive is gross and will generally make your image smear across the screen (at least super contrasty things, like a reticle)
I did notice a black border around anything with movement with it on
super resolution is just down sampling (think running a game at 150% render res instead of 100)
this is the best way to go about seeing if you want something on so that’s nice
you tried it didn’t like it may as well trust your instincts
I didnt like using overdrive but im unsure about the super resolution
super resolution ends up making things that aren’t a game look quite a bit worse
due to jamming 4 pixels into one on your monitor for example fine edges of text may not look good
It makes everything in the distance look alot better, but things close up have jagged edges now
yeah
so its a trade-off
also makes whatever game run worse so imo a no
Run worse?
but if you like it go ahead, i used super resolution(the nv one) in tarkov to make DLSS better
it’s running the game at a higher internal resolution and then making it fit on your monitor
your monitor likely supports a 4K signal but is only 1440p or similar, same thing different method
Its a 1440p 120hz monitor
so then this
my homie has an asus monitor that is the same way
Im using this monitor on console btw
game runs at 4K or an higher res then the monitor handles the translation instead of your gpu doing it (probably)
should have mentioned that
would depend on a game to game basis then
ill probably keep both off
some games may support that higher render res on the console and look better
but games that don’t will likely look the same if not worse
Thanks
My dell precision rig has finnally been retired and is now for minecraft server duty 🫡
I am currently torn between AM4 & LGA 1200 </3
am4
I KNOW
But the Z490-F is so prettyyyy......
lga 1200 shouldn’t be considered unless you can get a K chip/a decent board with it
Is lga 1200 12th gen intel?
no, 10th or 11
That's 1700
Oh yea go am4 atp
Within any real logic, AM4 is the better option
But the Strix Z490-F is pretty as hell,,,,,,,,
Oh thats 12th gen
find a b550 strix then
Nah you would need x3D chip for that to work imo
Priced like a kidney ❤️
Z490 isn’t 12th
if you were closer i’d basically give one to you
it’s 10th
Oh I was referring to this so I thought-
i actively have a z590 board with a 10700 in it lol
oh ok lol
Tbf the LGA 1200 option is bundled with an i3 10100 & 1x8GB
yeah not the play
Still not worth, yea
get a 5600g or some shit
The i3 10100 IS better than my current processor, but yeah it's temporary until I can get a 10700K or 11400/700
and then it wouldn’t be worth it
Actually MAYBE the price isn't horrible? Let's see if anything pops up..
you’re spending money twice on a single platform
do not do that if you can avoid it i promise it is better that way
it took me a very long time to learn that and it’s kinda imperative you do too lol
Very old one at that btw. Id say am4's equivalent would be lga 1700
Well, I can definitely order one off Newegg and pay for the third party shipping
nah it’s 1200
Oh
am4 is just cheaper and more common probably especially in his area
I can barely find anything decent for AM4 used, let alone well priced
then you got da options clear
An R7 1700 is going for $50 ❤️
i mean i’d pay that but it wouldn’t be my only computer at the same time
THOUGH, even though it's more expensive, new is definitely doable
A Strix B550 is like 140 on Newegg, so like 170-180 effectively
that’s not bad but i wouldn’t
