I did a NAS build,
the original plan from like November didn't happen because I ordered everything and then the third party seller on Amazon ghosted me and took my money and it took 3 months for Amazon to finally give me my money back... https://pcpartpicker.com/list/g9PTW9
The hard drives are allegedly going to be here today but they've been delayed 5 days in a row now so who knows when they are going to show up
Part List - Intel Core Ultra 5 245K, Jonsbo N3 Mini ITX Desktop
I think i might have an extremely large memory bus width for a laptop
Ah went back to Jonsbo ok
2070 super founders edition and a 5600x stock cooler. How hot will the air coming out be because I'm having an argument/debate about if the PC case I 3D printed is good or going to melt onto the components and be worse then using nothing.
2070 Supper
I was told and I do honestly believe that my old 14900HX and 4090 combo was overkill for what I needed to do. So I didn't need a level performance quite that high but I needed something relatively similar to that but I also need it all day battery life capabilities when doing mundane things like web browser activities.
This was something the Intel could not do no matter what even just web browsing you got Max an hour out of it maybe 90 minutes if I was really lucky.
That's when Apple came in because you have the ability to sit there and sip power at 3 to 4 Watts all day long and then when you need to get something done it fires up and goes and you have amazing performance per watt so even though the battery may not last as long as you think that it should it's also using considerably less energy per calculation.
What about it?
2070 is not dinner
I never said it was.
Supper means dinner
Solution?
So I clearly need more RAM and storage, I feel like having more cores would also help give that boost I'm looking for.
With stuff off loading to the GPU, am I correct saying the M4 Pro 14C simply won't be enough of an upgrade and still has the tiny memory pipes.
It was mentioned to me most likely the CPU is waiting on the RAM. And that I probably have enough IPC, but need bigger pipes.
Since I just bought this a few months ago and am losing $1,000 getting rid of it I wanna make sure I don't have to do it again.
36GB won't be enough Ram from the M4 BabyMax.
So that leaves:
M4 14C pro 48GB 1TB ($2,950) - probably not enough of an upgrade to justify.
M4 MAX 16C 64GB 1TB ($4,050) - probably enough for my needs
-M4 MAX 16C 128GB 1TB ($4,850) - "overkill" but shockingly BELOW market value to add 64GB ram ....
How hot the air gonna get?
If you need memory bandwidth get the max
High end yes, enterprise no ...
Yeah apple just has their shit down when it comes to software and their hardware integrating with it or vice versa. Far as the memory issue goes relative to performance and desired efficiency.. Guess you just need to spend more on a mac
you want us to tell you how hot the exhaust air will be on a GPU?
And the CPU if that matters but yeah I don't have a thermal camera.
@hardy horizon as a resident apple salesperson/technician, get the max; go for base storage with upgraded ram, and get an external drive
Well, good luck. That seems like it can probably be worked out with some math knowing its a 215W TDP card
Its still funny how im fully certified for repairs, but i am not working as a technician lol
Uh how?
Math
So my Intel did 2k, same as M4 max, my M4 pro 12 core does 1,300.
What i didn't know was how much stuff on Mac gets offloaded to GPU because the GPU is substantially more efficient... Having that baby GPU is hurting me. Originally I was told Jeep you didn't matter cuz Max don't have the ability to game and I mean I've tried it in the rare titles that I have that are compatible and ... yeah it doesn't work and neither does G-Force now.
But what math? I do not feel like we have enough variables here.
That's the issues I don't KNOW what I need.
We were sitting at 100% all core load, 24 GB of swap active Memory pressure 3... and I don't have a way to know, was the CPU running at 100% because it was waiting on RAM? OR was the CPU at its maximum abilities?
These both have very different solutions 😭 $$$$
Having performance for heavy workloads, and battery life for light workloads in the same device is very difficult to find, apple is the only one in the game. The big X9 panther lake competes with M5.
So you are basically stuck with Apple it's just I'm not familiar enough real world to know what I need.
Whats the main use
You’re quite wrong to say the least
Like if you told me hey build yourself a Windows laptop that's actually really easy for me. I know I like large bit bus for my Vram, I slumped for a very long time you met 16 gigs of RAM then I had a machine at 32 gigs which was fine and then for my most recent one I went 64GB ( because you have to disassemble it down to the FRAME to replace it) and that for me is really the sweet spot.
From there it's really about like CPU architecture differences and some other stuff like that I do have kind of like an underlying baseline that I do like a lot of L3 cache but again it depends on architecture.
So for Windows laptop this is actually really easy.
- 5080 mobile if I want the same performance as I have with the 4090, honestly if I'm buying a rig probably going to go ahead and take it up to the 5090
- mini LED screen or OLED certified for HDR 1,000
- 64 GB ram
- good keyboard (Lenovo level)
- And 100wh battery.
The one thing I would seek out is a strong iGPU if available, so that way when I'm doing less intensive tasks ideally we can actually sip power.
When I want to Mac, I have never actually owned one. And my last experience interacting with one was eMac. So I was lost and heavily depended on users feedback.
Messed up, WAYY under bought, and now gotta buy a different one.
Okay so my M4 MAX, 128GB, 1TB would be the recommendation?
Same soc, same ram, base storage
Is it a macbook, or a studio?
That is base for MAX
Macbook 14
Honestly if I'm just looking at it from the limited information I have...
it just straight up doesn't have enough power. It has plenty of IPC for single core but I need a lot more multicore. (20% maybe) And MUCH more GPU.
What I misunderstood is, to me binned was always like cherry-picked good chips... What people were talking about binned M4 pros (12 cores) ... those are all defective M4 pro 14 cores and that makes sense ... because mine runs 10 Watts heavier than anybody else's does to get the same level performance.
I know,
I just found out
Here is my concern with M5 pro/max
How many generations do you guys think we're away from the macbook air getting 120hz?
I've been more tempted than ever to get into macs especially with the deals they're at, the new $1099 512G version might do it for me. Really really want to wait another year for 120hz though
A few
Honestly, 120hz isnt really important on the airs
Darn
Probably a bad take tbh
@native path what would be the main use of the device?
"But with the brand new M5 Pro and M5 Max that Apple literally just announced today, they fundamentally changed the architecture. They created a completely new three-tier CPU system, and they removed the standard Efficiency cores from the high-end chips entirely."
It's really not but it's more of a good to have, everything I use is running at 120hz or has the "ProMotion" display in it, it wouldn't feel as nice going to a 60hz display on the mac
So my plan with Just activating low power mode and having it limit to 15 watts whenever I don't need it to do anything intensive may not work anymore ..
Id say wait for m6 pro’s
Efficiency Cores (The Battery Sippers)
These are the tiny background-task cores designed purely to save battery.
The Catch: They are completely gone from the M5 Pro and M5 Max. You will now only find Efficiency cores in the base-model M5 chips (like the MacBook Air).
It won't, the air is all about "24 hr battery life"
Mainly to learn MacOS a portable machine to access my homelab from wherever i'm at
One of those cases where AI might be somewhat useful.
What you have:
Die size: 545 mm²
Process node: 12nm
TDP: 215WWhat you'd still need:
Fan/Airflow dataFan speed (RPM) or, ideally, the volumetric airflow rate (CFM or m³/hr) the cooler moves
This is the single most impactful missing variable — exhaust temp is essentially a function of power dissipated divided by mass flow rate of air
Was thinking that as well
More SSD on all base models
So 512 instead of 256
So technically as Tim Cook made it clear that they would be cutting profits heavily in order to gain market share during this hardware price crisis You actually are saving $100!
True
Every config is CHEAPER than before
Well the M5 might do it for me
Id say wait for the a18 pro/a19 pro macbook
Hell One of the biggest issues they finally fixed! Previously you had to get a mini or studio to get the M4 Pro with 64 GB Ram...
If you want it on a MacBook you were forced into the big Max chip. Now you can get it on the pro and save over $2,000 versus previous year!
Nah i'm good on those
Soo yeah. Apple did exactly what they said they were going to do They came out absolutely swinging!
They are now the value leader in the entire personal computing market nobody else even comes close
Do you know how insane the ppw on the a18pro/a19pro is?
And that new a19 MacBook Air so that way they can stop building M1 air for schools. If they really do launch it at $499
unfortunately Intel'a panther lake is going to be a complete sales flop.
Now there's a rumor they're going to be limited to 8 gig I hope that they don't make that mistake I hope they give 16 gig.. I know Apple is paying 250% more per memory module.. but yeah
Haven't really looked into the Neos but, honestly i'm not that interested even if it has good value
Even though i already have an overkill laptop, im still gonna buy that a18 pro macbook
Again I'm not actually rooting for Apple to succeed I think they've become very very complacent... Although you do appreciate the prices haven't really gone up I don't really like that they also haven't plummeted..
However I have never ever ever once said hey you know it would make best for consumers to have a less competition in the market...
Lol yeah i'm gonna be moving away from my G14
i wonder if the a18 will be any good
I'm sure it will be
idk why im expecting my M1 to be better (its still quite good)
All of our mobile devices from our cell phones to our tablets and stuff have way more horsepower than they actually need... Now are you going to be running local LLMS on it no.. But like remember $500 device so you're talking about actually completing with Chromebooks because there's no such thing as a current hardware generation Chromebook that's cheaper than that.
And remember you are still getting Mac OS You're not getting a browser based OS.
Is it confirmed $500?
It's will be under current air sales price,
which is retailing for like 799
It won't be somebody did the comparison where the m1 technically will be better in certain things but in the real world the a19 Pro will actually do better especially performance for what
I was assuming it's gonna be about the 700-800 range
$650 sales prices
Rn they're a bit spicy but that has more to do with what else are you going to buy instead when you can't afford a Windows machine... I'm more looking at like what they were around Black Friday and stuff like that
These new M5 airs have wifi 7 right?
Because like why would you only pay $100 less for something that's right above an m1 in performance when you could just spend that extra $100 and get m3 performance which is double...
Maybe.. I think air might I know on Pro M5 does not It has 6e but M5 Pro and Max have seven
Welcome to the apple ladder
No not worth it for Apple at that point. Because even though the device won't be machined aluminum and some other things like that and have cheaper production it still doesn't make sense to make an entire production line and go through the r&D If you're not going to sell the units in meaningful numbers and the only way you're going to do that is if it's cheap enough to make sense and since they knew before going to this progress that they weren't going to be raising the prices of the air... It's got to be at least $200 under air pricing and I think it's going to be more like 350...
It's probably go on sale to $500
Apple was extremely clear that they are using the current DRAM shortages and their lucrative contracts to monopolize it to gain substantial market share in exchange for profit cut.
$499 has a really nice ring because they're targeting customers that are comparing it to Chromebooks
I was really hoping that they would get playful with it and do like 5c where you have a high quality product that just is made from inexpensive plastic but fun colors.
But Apple doesn't like colors anymore 😩😭
kordell bro if you didnt have mac what laptop would you be getting
I mean they've widely reported that that motherboard that's inside of the iPhone Pro the DRAM on it is costing them 250% more than it did at launch. And it sounds like that's very similar motherboard to what will be going into this new cheaper MacBook
I really hope that they consider a small size so like a 12 because I think the current Air 13 is a little bit too big
1mmt I have my if this damn thing doesn't work out I'm returning it and buying this instead.. saved
1mmt??
Yeah it has wifi 7 it's a wrap for me i'm getting it
One moment
Okay so I really really liked my Lenovo I just couldn't stand the lack of reliability... And that their next day repair premium that they charge you is only if they bother to get parts and they made me wait 4 months for them to find some used parts to throw into my rig and then they had it for 6 months out of the first 13 months and refuse to extend the warranty the amount of time that I was without the product... Yeah
Soo if the Mac doesn't work out ... I'm just going to say screw it I need to go sort of back to basics with it ...
bro just buy a laptop
It will suck though going up to what's probably going to be 9 lb with the charger
its not that deep
I did 😩
then why are you writing wall of texts here
But yeah I considered them before but I had to take him off my list because I could not stand how bad the screen was It was just unacceptable.. now that they have mini LED 🤷
Will it be perfectly optimized no... But I'm ordering it with the water cooler so I'll have the raw performance to where I don't care I don't need the quality of life features Just give me the horsepower.
Your laptop will be water cooled?
No I am undecided if I would go X3D or if I would go for Intel and get the 128GB because x3D is limited to 96 GB
That one has the water cooler that sits on the desk
Ahh icic
I did see that I can technically buy some of the final stock of the second gen of my 9i from Lenovo but it has an 18-in screen and the screen quality is worse than my 16 was
Typically this brand would be known as XMG
I would prefer a higher resolution like the 3.2 k at 16 that I'm used to.. but 🤷. I'm sure this one will last longer than my Lenovo did which was 18 months before I had to sell it at a $4,000 loss 😩
if they don't like colours they wouldn't get rid of the black iPhone pro lul
No no COLORS!
Also I think A18 is rather interesting depending on how Apple will tune it
it has built in RT, for one.
It matches the M3 in single core
actually even better than the M3 in single core
Yep, And honestly single core maybe dual core performance if you want to get spicy is all that matters in this class of device.. I mean my buddy has a freaking Chromebook and I was trying to use it the other day and I was like what the hell is even this did you get this for free or something??
And it was one of the better ones cuz it was the Samsung one 🤮
yeahhh
just last gen
And that's the thing is I never thought we would see true market disruption by Apple..
We've seen innovations that have redefined segments but like even the iPod it was revolutionary but it didn't really create a bunch of competition in the market It just created a space underneath it for things priced below it like the zune
and it's far more vibrant irl
Other than 5c which was their first attempt at a cheap iPhone I don't know of another Apple product that really put the heat to the industry
Maybe AirPods but then also like that was a thing that people don't really enjoy
Tell Gen z is back to wired headphones they're like I'm not paying $250 to $400 for some earbuds that I'm going to lose
No I want BOLD colors, those five C's in person were jaw droppers
Remember that's also because we're assuming that this cheap one will be made out of plastic and I think that that's completely expected I wouldn't even knock them for that as long as it's durable plastic not some cheap junk
That's true actually, the last times it really happened I'd say was the Apple Lisa with GUI, then iPhone 6 with the reversible connector
also the comment about wired headphones - they HAVE become far more popular... with high end sets at 300USD too lmao
20 bucks gets you something decent, 100-200 is a midrange sweetspot, 300-1k for high end
Which.... ridiculously.. is like the going rate of a set of halfway decent wireless earbuds
but that's the thing
you don't get features like ANC and Transparency in wired buds
you just get sound quality that's unmatched by tws
purple on the iphone 14 pro max was the best color imo
I would argue you don't need them.
Eh
I'd say it's a really nice to have
iems can't isolate out bass the way anc can
which makes planes, busses, etc. far quieter
I'd argue it's worth the money if you're regularly on public transport, ANC has made my trips far more enjoyable
^^
But then ANC on budget buds have gotten really good
I use Galaxy Buds FE, it was half the price of my iems and sound decent, but the ANC makes me use them a ton
Apple's got me by the balls I haven't tried other ANC in ears
I own a set of XM4s for planes and whenever I feel like using headphones but 90% of the time im on my airpod pro 2s
What you mean they are way quieter than they used to be everybody just stares at the phone the whole time
i dont want to hear the engine noise of an a321 neo while im listening to music
You live in an area where the rails are silent and your busses are electric? and float?
Traffic doesn't go quiet because of phones
I can't tell you how many times my XM4s and airpods pros have helped me on flights
Sometimes I forget this is global people. Here public transport's not useful It just isn't.
The few places that they are, you're being charged a premiums living those areas to where it makes more sense to just own a car instead and not live there cuz it's cheaper.
Well technically I could count how many flights i've been on but you get my point
I use public transport whenever it's faster than driving, which when going straight through the city, the train having priority actually halves the time
Is that the small premium one or the one with the iPhone Pro chip for cheap?
I live in Singapore where buying a car is at an extremely unreasonable cost and most people are on public transport, I take the train and bus daily
but the bus to get to the train uses an 8.9L Cummins ISL, hardly a silent engine
iphone pro chip
motorcycles?
Oh ... None of my wired earbuds dont do that but I buy the ones with the silicone tips or foam tips that seal to your ear
Not my typa thing
damn
brother I've probably spent more on tips than you have on earbuds lmao
nothing quite beats ANC for isolating out low frequency noise, tho many of my iems isolate out more high-pitched sounds.
u have been talking about laptops here for like 2 months i swear 😭
cordell is a coked up CEO of a tech start up or something the way he be buying tech
But I also have a policy that I won't fly unless absolutely have to because the airlines are just respectful to their paying customers and treat you like dog shit then unfortunately I've always had some kind of ridiculous issue either with TSA and ICE taking over the airport for an hour and a half for no reason as far as I could tell... Or a plane is delayed then flies at top speed to meet the connecting flight but then they gave away the gate so then I'm sitting there in an airport trying to reschedule flight for a number of days later and then I go ahead can I get compensation and they go here's an email and then they never respond to the email...
I go on a 19 hour flight twice a year, sometimes 4. No ANC would make me miserable
^^
or with any airline company, both american and international
It's never faster here. I used to commute across the Metro and it comes out to an average of 18mph ... When you drive your average miles per hour during that same traffic period is over 35mph ...
I've never had issues with TSA either
I actually enjoy TSA somehow
oftentimes the agents are just people who need a laugh
Sure there are some airlines better than others. I've flown ANA, Delta, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Korean Air. Haven't had any problems
Ahh yes, That makes sense in somewhere like that or if you said like New York City and you lived only in New York City. But here it's just to spread out and Amtrak even though they're technically have priority on the line it's whoever has the longest train it it's never Amtrak so like all of the options are really crap if I'm honest You just drive where you need to go or you get on a plane and pray that it goes well...
so you drop a stupid joke say have a good day and everyone behind u in line gets a better experience
Airline policy is quite interesting since it seems almost none of it is standardized
Yes I think it's going to put the industry on notice I really do think that Apple has such an upper hand that I would consider not releasing my panther lake based laptops if I was a Lenovo or Dell or an HP..
I've really only taken the NYC and DC metro. Been on the Amtrak a couple times, again ANC is life saver
For example: Westjet tends to do harder landings to save wear on tires at the cost of some passenger comfort, whereas China Airlines always butters their landings to the point you can't tell when you actually hit the pavement
Death machines here. You're basically invisible
in singapore?
ptl is going to crush the a18 pro. this is aimed at people buying like the omnibook 5 or ideapad 3/5
not the xps or yoga
PTL is also gonna be expensive
starting at $1300 for some models
Lunar Lake was already stupid expensive to the point where the only reason you would buy is for the efficiency
Ahh, yeah I don't really listen to earbuds that much I do have a pair of Galaxy Pro 3's.. too bad one of the microphones is dead and they don't make any silicone replacement tips for them They expect you to buy literally the entire set of earbuds again which is absolutely ridiculous
mba actually seems solid now that the base storage is 512gb
cant wait for some crazy costco discount
you can get replacement tips from 3rd party, or even more boutique tips like Azla TWS
Nah you'll be alright on a bike in Singapore, I just rather not drive one
I really don't.. what it is is I've been trying to like deal with technology that I have so I don't spend as much as I used to and smaller transactions and it's just getting to the point where I can't put off purchasing some of this stuff anymore.
Like that damn ass that was supposed to be a 2018 project... But now that I'm sorry to actually lose data like I need to just make it happen.
My fav eartips thus far has been Azla Crystal 2, Spinfit Omni, and Final type E
i just got mine for 800$
The laptop is just more of I don't have that kind of time to just sit around and wait on things like that because my time is in very high demand so unfortunately it's one of those situations where although I'm not directly making money from it it enables me to have a better work-life balance because the workload doesn't change just the amount of time I have to take to get it done does..
258v in a DAM fine laptop too
panther lake is not cheap
you could get them for $799 months ago
that's what I said
well before ptl was announced
not around my parts
dell 14 plus was commonly going for $799. ys7i was $899
I've really been looking into getting a macbook nowadays, i've been using my zephyrus G14 for the past 2 years and it's a pain in the ass to use. Don't know if I got a crap copy but it's just been having issues every single week starting with a crap fan then some boot problem. MacBook Airs on black friday discounts look incredible
hi yall
I've been using my Zephyrus G16 for 3 years now
got a battery replacement and 2 keyboard replacements
Kinda really done with it
cheapest its been is 2k around my parts for the dell
i did a battery replacement on my zephyrus g15 recently. repasted with tr heilos almost a year ago
I want a Macbook for the fun of it
No when micro center did their grand opening in Phoenix which I think was November is when I bought the HP with lunar lake was just simply wasn't enough power for me unfortunately.. And then I bought the MacBook M4 Pro but because I didn't know my workload at the time I was kind of buying it off of recommendations and I wasn't able to ever sample it against any of my workloads.
And at the time I still had my Lenovo was just in the shop which is why I had to buy one when they told me it could be six or seven months before I get my unit back..
What I never really planned on was getting my unit back and then finding out parts are completely suspended on production and non-existent so if it breaks again I can't do anything about it...
So now we're basically looking for a single asset solution I think it does make sense to buy a Mac studio for the house and then a MacBook Air from the go... But I'm never home enough to where I think I could justify that and but since my ISP is terrible at the house with inconsistent speeds I don't think like remoting into its really going to be viable
I sent it in to replace my crap GPU fan and they replaced my CPU fan... And once it came back it was out of the warranty period.
ill probably get a macbook next not gonna lie
First thing I always do nowadays is remove whatever paste or liquid metal the laptop uses and repaste with PTM which never needs repaste
1.5k for the lenovo
i dont hate macboocks but they are too restrictive for me i'd say
The MBA M5 with wifi7 and 512gigs of storage is a steal to be honst
ye the macbook is what i remember last
life time lowest btw
What does it restrict you from doing
yeah my temps are a lot better now and i dont have to worry about any LM shenanigans
compatibility, customisation
prob just the os for compatibility
Compatibility?
but i dont hate it its still a very well respectable OS
compatibility from what
Eh I guess so
games, most autodesk software, and solidworks is honestly all i can think of
i use niche tools from like the 2000s
ah
wait since when could white names talk?
random school software
most of mine worked fine
only issue was siemens and solidworks
i remoted into a desktop whenever i needed to use siemens
someone in my class has a mac and cant do that much some days
has to use some 10 year old 8th gen hp laptop
tax software is a weird one ive run into before
Is 8gb enough ram for davinci resolve? 1080p60, 15min ish timelines, lower effect, apple silicon
i would aim for 16gb
in general 8gb soldered is poo
but i prefer Windows (ik bloated asf) but im just used to it, if someone uses macos for their whole life, they would prefer macos
No just TIRED. I'm so annoyed with companies not being held accountable by any of our laws and basically just releasing the consumer there's no reason why a $5,500 machine should go COMPLETELY out of support 18 months after production...
I just got a really good offer on an m2 air 8gb under 500 so I’m tempted
Bros gonna start the linux debate now
^^^^
oh god no
price?
485
barely under 500 brochacho
currency?
USD
honestly during the brief period where i used a macbook air i didnt mind macos sequoia at all
I woulda just said 500
tahoe was an issue for me
500$ for 8GB of ram
fair after taxes pretty much will be 500
Windows laptops with ddr3 sure
There is a reason apple raised the minimum amount of ram to 16
i used a macbook air a few times for a few projects, its alright and it worked, i just like the fact that multiple brands can use windows but macos is only for apple (which is completly fair)
8gb is web browsing levels of ram
i just got a 32GB laptop for a reason
Okay so I guess I'll tell the story
It wasn't actually an issue with TSA in and of themselves. I arrived at the proper time for the airport ICE was sitting there with a bunch of detainees (?). there is 20 lanes for this TSA, there's about eight lane with pol working, It wasn't busy. I was the behind the next person in line and then the ICE agent walked up to TSA and made them close ALL of the lanes and then proceeded to take each individual through once at a time...
My gate for my flight was directly behind TSA, I got to watch my plane arrive watch, everybody board, i get the call about "hey are you coming" and watch it depart because it took over 45 minutes for them to process six people because they insisted on having all 18 TSA members that were on the clock standing next to the metal detectors....
And then most of my flights involve a layover at SeaTac which I absolutely despise so I tried to avoid the layover times and try to keep them down to 45 minutes to an hour..
But then they'll be a delay for takeoff or arrival and then they'll give my gate away so then I get to sit on the tarmac in a hot ass plane for 40 minutes watch my connecting flight arrive board and then to part because they gave away our gate....
nah
Arizona
seatac so you fly delta
or alaskan
im in the dc area and never have i had issues with american or united nor with TSA. this is at DCA too so security is tight af
The issue is... We are in an affordability crisis in the strongest consumer market of the world which is the United States. The top 10% are doing over 40% of the overall spending in the entire economy.
So somebody has to buy a computer they're going to look for something that's going to last long time and is affordable and when you say hey you get 7 years of updates in the Mac will work completely as it does today in 7 years they're going to gravitate naturally towards that.
Also the problem with panther lake is embedded memory... Which means it is directly impacted by the availability of NAND..
and i flew like a month ago
WAYY over the target MBa and new cheap MacBook market.
why
are
we
typing
like
this
Not really 16 GB 258v with OLED display and 3TB 4 ports was $600 ...
yes but $1300 for 32gb ram and 1tb storage
that or $1559 for swift 16
the swift looks decent that i do need to say
if i wanted to spec a macbook air 13 with 32/1tb it would be $1699
1899 for 15"
the pricing already sucks for ram/ssd upgrades from apple and its only going to get worse once their current deals expire
Yep, That also means they in theory solved the issue if you got a MacBook with only a single nan chip and then you were limited to like 2.5 GB/s. Sounds like 14GB/s is the new (1TB+?) expectation.
Which if Apple SSDs had more durability that is when I could actually have a conversation of maybe you don't need to upgrade the RAM? But like I think m5 face just got much better because you actually have efficiency cores and we'll see how these M5 pros do with the elimination of efficiency cores. ....
I know just $$. I paid $40 for some memory foam ones and I hate them I'm much prefer the stock Samsung ones.
is the swift being sold for that price RN?
around my parts we only got the dual screen PTL and its 3k
No it wasn't, single core sure but the problem is is so much as multicore that having half the performance is a problem... A 500 center bench score is a synthetic benchmark sure but the way that that shows up is ridiculous
like I don't know six to eight hours waiting for windows to update.....
i dont even see it on their site. no clue how josh got that price ngl
wat
realistically though if i were to get a mac again it would be a refurbed pro
Yep! Why even though I really like their products on a lot of them hit every single target I'm looking for I won't buy another Asus. I'm really on the edge about buying another Lenovo with how disgustingly they treated me
are you high kool?
Ehh, If you know terminal there's so much you could do
6-8 hours to update windows sounds like a network issue ngl
Yeah this was a concern. But since now they're cheaper than Windows laptops of the same performance level I mean as long as the performance you get through parallels makes sense for you $50 a year is nothing Just pay it and have all the benefits of a Mac and that insanely low price.
took me like 15m but more due to windows update just taking its time
ive had w11 on slower laptops and it never took 6-8 hours to update kek
the laptop mentioned
It's for apple intelligence. That's why they originally did it
the thing i love the most is not having to listen to the stupid fans
Yeah United was the worst experience that I ever had when they said oh yeah we'll compensate you send the email and I sent them 12 emails and didn't get a single response and when you call the line they say nope you have to send an email but then they refuse to respond to the emails they'll be over $900 for their own policy...
It's So it's readable so it doesn't look like a massive blob of text.
is he replying to every message sent in the past hour
yes
I presume you're referring to me
the spacing makes my brain hurt
32GB of from is $300 on its own, I doubt panther lake we'll be able to hold that price.
anyways i ordered a $1 apple watch band
Why are u doing an air with upgrades? Just go MBP. It's a WAYYYY better value
i ordered a 100w usb-c adapter on ali so i can sell my old 12700h acer laptop i got for 15$
It's VERY competitive with market right now.
And Tim Cook said, not until next year will they raise their prices they're focusing on capitalizing on market share. Right now it's cheaper to get a 64 gig of RAM upgrade from Apple than it is to try to buy one as sticks ....
$2100 for m5 with 32gb son
m5 pro only does 24/48gb for some stupid reason. you need to get the m5 max to get 36gb
That was the Lunar Lake issue.
no?
i know considering im using one right now
No I had 2 258V's One with a shitty drive one with a good drive and then I put my 990 Pro in one to make sure it wasn't just a drive issue.
how long ago
Nope CPU was at 100%
2hrs it was more than fine
you just have bad luck im ngl
maybe he got a laptop where they forgot to take off the protective plastic on the VRMs or something
well 2
Yes, bug windows updates make it crawl because it doesn't have enough throughput.
well that bug is long gone now
And how much is x9 with 32GB?
November
dunno most prices arent out
x7 and x9 are the same thing anyways, no clue whyd you spend extra on the x9
$1599 for the swift sonnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
skill issue, i dono mine is fine
tbh i would not really call something a certain price until its out
like the 5090 is meant to be a 2000$ card and even sold for that at one point but well yeeeaa
That's good, I really like the unit but it was like hey I just don't have the performance here. It just absolutely fell apart with anything multithreaded. And of course you know it's Intel not Apple silicone so you have really bad single core. It was literally UNUSABLE. If it was trying to do a Windows update in the background like you couldn't even browse the web.
i was just downloading a windows update, downloading a game and webrowsing at the same time
i could feel it heating up but the cpu was not maxing out
You need x9 to match M5 is what I saw. But ya you could go x7 for a bit less performance.
This is all wild to watch.
I've had these problems on most windows laptops I get i'm just gonna swap over to apple and see how life is on the other side
what
SIMMMM
yes
IVE BEEN WAITING

THOUGHTS ON THE GAMBLE
yolo
IDK about the mount but I really like the elastic fabric that the AliExpress straps use
WTF 62, GOD NO
so I go for it....
he sent an offer of $50 so about 64 post ship and tax
HUH 😭
Does it get hot?
i would not use more than 20$ on socket repairs
https://www.backmarket.com/en-us/p/macbook-pro-2020-13-inch-m1-8-core-and-8-core-gpu-16gb-ram-ssd-512gb/e63fbcce-86af-47d9-b079-80fb1661e4b2 I would personally slightly downgrade the CPU for more ram or spend about $100 extra for a m2 16gb model
nope the acer is actually pretty decent
16gb on windows is stupid nowadays, 32 is the new 16.
taptic trackpad can even be used as a drawing tablet
all of the nicer lga1700 ddr4 are so expensive tho 😭
What's the point of getting a super nice laptop that freezes every time it has to access swap
the x9 just clocks higher than the x7. otherwise its the same 4/8/4 + b390 as the x7
yea
Can you actually buy it for $2k tho? Or is that the MSRP in the same way that the 5090 MSRP is like $2500 but they're currently changing hands for $5,000
seen with a lot of laptops the X7 only getting 8533 vs X9 getting 9600
$100 extra for 14" m1 pro imo
https://www.ebay.com/itm/296226656308
Because of how the memory pricing is normally it makes sense to go from an air with upgrades just straight to a base Pro. Because you're getting $600 screen with that upgrade too.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/B8jv6h/asus-b760m-ayw-wifi-d4-ii-micro-atx-lga1700-motherboard-b760m-ayw-wifi-d4-ii $99 expensive?
Agreed, but at least of the time it didn't make sense because the amount of money you were paying was like seven or $800 to go from 16 to 32..
We're rapidly approaching to where that price is "reasonable" 😭
2 nvme slots 💔
So what should I do 😭
invest the money
Yeah that's why I said lunar lake is expensive.
When something says PETG high temp how higher is the glass transition temp?
U mean the new M5's? They don't actually do that, they just slow down.
who is using 3 or more nvme drives
Yes
No, 16gb lunar lake
What if I wanted more memory it's $400 more from the speced air
depends on the exact product, you’d have to check for that specific item
Or any high end Windows laptop with 16gb ram
me
there’s more than one formulation of “petg high temp”
😊
its a budget build fr 💔
Now it's 6 total for $25 extra
But like on average?
i asked when will the seller ship the laptop
Yeah they were charging an exorbitant amount for the upgrades because they felt like they were in a position of power.
With panther lake they're not going to have a choice They have to charge an exorbitant amount because it costs them an exorbitant amount.
Best college laptop under 1.5k
Like can I consider it over ABS?
MacBook
a generalization like that is at best unhelpful, at worst actively misinformation
Look up the specs for the specific filament you’re looking at buying
good luck
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I know but I was hoping that wasn't the case
It really just makes the most sense
Thanks i was thinking of going framework
Framework is MacBook pricing without MacBook power
Yea I know 😭
doesn't that require x4x4x4x4 bifurcation mode support 🤔 would need to check if mobo supports it
make a post in https://discord.com/channels/375436620578684930/1106613567966429224 and actually say what you need it for fully like software and such
Ahh ya IDK, makes more sense to buy Mac once you say Lunar Lake costs $1,400 for 32 GB one.
What are you going into?
So what are you saying? I guess more directly like what would you be comparing?
So its not as easy as saying usually PLA or usually PETG melt at x temp it varies more then that?
Yep but it is not apple apple is an amazing product but I dont want one
this place is hell
yall help im legit gonna freak out
Buisness administration and infromation systems
If you want performance and all day battery life it's one of the only options
Just update your graphic driver
Yea 😭
its on latest i think, it got installed when i got windows from usb
“PETG high temp” isn’t pure petg, so it’s hard to say
A $1699 MBA with 1TB storage and 32G of memory, compared to a $2099 MBP with 1TB storage and 32G of memory. How is $400 more better value?
more performance?
Integrated or gpu? If its a gpu they update like 6x a month
better processor and more cooling
intel HD 5500
petg high temp is just petg with less g
All day battery and lightweight, pretty much the college dream unless you're in engineering
Hmm try this:
Needs:
Wants:
Nice to have if possible:
If you fill this out maybe we could probably guide you a lot better. because what you're getting now is best overall for most cases, but it may not be best for your use case or what you're looking to do.
$400 worth?
Idk check intel graphics hub
I'm not really informed on the processor gap between the MBP and MBA, in order to get more memory in the air you need to upgrade to their 10 core GPU chip anyway
All I need is good multi tasking and good keybord for notes in class i have a pc ill sync it to for any substantial work so I was thinking the fw 13
Then either MacBook or wait for panther lake and see how much those are gonna be
Framework keyboard
Ahh is there any good framework laptop keybord?
Framework 16 is just bad for the price. 13 I'd say is acceptable at best.
Omnibook ultra still has one of my fav keyboards
You should see the college discount i get on that lol I can get it for 800 from the college site
No brainer for $800
Id not be buying for the price with the fw id buy it for supporting the cause the mac is an amazing option but I dont like how they lock you in
Okay, what 3rd party supports Framework modules?
Don't waste money and get a $800 m4 MacBook
Don't think this is true, the 24g memory and 1tb SSD is a refurbished one
+1
If you don't need it now, wait for the back to school deal and get free airpods along with it
Spend the saved money on studying snacks for the year
But I think prices will rise considering those will be the M5 macbook air by then
Yea the college bookstore gives like a 30% discount on all apple products
They always sell a couple gens back - M1 was sold till 2023 I think
You get a discount off the refurbished store?
Well if you need a ram upgrade, you need sustained performance.
- a fan so it doesn't down clock
- $600 screen upgrade
- Resale value
- Better Keyboard
- M5 Pro CPU with double the memory bandwith
AND If you could get by with 24GB, you could grab a m5 pro base config with the normal $400 discount from retailers.
Education discount can be more than Refurb
Esp since Refurb is always 1 or 2 generations behind the latest
Not the one coopa sent though, M4 24G memory 1TB SSD
To prevent people from buying new, returning then coming back a week later for open box discount
Idk refurbished but all I've seen from the store has been new m4 that spec for the 800 for those prices ill double check
Yea i only get the student on new stuff
It would be $800 for the 16G memory 256GB ssd version
Ahh i missed the storage also i dont need any storage on my laptop I have a 4tb pc for stuff
$850 for a m4 air 13" 512gb 16gb refurbished
I dunno what presumption you're under that it need sustained performance because you're using more memory. I could be doing multiple tasks at once needing the memory without all of the processor performance
- It's designed to not need to fan, knowing you're buying an AIR you wont be doing tasks that need need it, and it's designed to handle the performance
- Is it an objective $600 screen upgrade?
- A laptop is meant to last, resale value is a point but it shouldn't factor a $400 cost difference when buying your laptop
- Neglibible
- The M5 MBP at $2099 has the standard M5 chip, not M5 Pro
If I do go mac my main wory is the linking to my pc for compatability
$800 for the standard 256G 16G is a great option then
What do you need comptatible between your PC and laptop?
@tidal geyser b370 is crazy good, matches xps 14 b390 in some games
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Honor-MagicBook-Pro-14-2026-Laptop-Review-OLED-all-rounder-impresses-with-Panther-Lake.1238776.0.html
Or go refurbished and get double the storage capacity for 50 bucks more, great choice
I would personally go refurbished for $50 more and get 512gb
^^ I would too
All my files and presets so if I am working on my pc I can transfer to laptop and back and forth so mainly stuff like office 360 and stream deck profiles and functions
Crazy how $50 for 256gb upgrade is a good deal now
Ikr
i think i found issule
$50 used to get a 1tb nvme
Holy.... when did you last update
2015
Bro
i only did the 21h2 update
Your office 360 would be fine, no clue about stream deck profiles I don't own one
https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/share-mac-files-with-windows-users-mchlp1657/mac never used it I never owned a apple device
To let users connect to your Mac from a Windows computer, turn on file sharing and enable SMB sharing.
I thought the main selling point of linux is to use it the way you want to
Ok than I think i have to bite the bullet and get an Apple 😭
Yeah this would work
Some people are miserable and dont let people enjoy anything
edge on linux 💀
Apple has the best price to performance and features now
I do wonder how the new android Chromebook will performe i hope they are out before next semester
So I can see the performance
Whens your next semester?
i love updating
Fall 2026
Arch tag yet uses w10
I'd hold off on the mac till the summer, there's a back to school deal from apple yearly where they give you free airpods when you purchase a macbook with the educational discount
it failing to post
Got into my dream college
No it definitely posted
it fails after bsod
Oooh I should do that might swap out my bose quietcomfort earbuds 2
no never update ur bios its a scam made by the government and lizard people
Unless apple starts charging more because of ram and SSD pricing check in weekly on the site/news for that 😆
What about any samsung laptops? I use a fold phone would those be worth it bc of the ecosystem?
Samsung laptops are doodoo ass
I don't think they will honestly, the education laptop wouldn't be $800 anymore but you're paying a little more for airpods and for the M5 air
@native path ok thanks for the advice I got to get back to my class
Pay attention 😭
But procrastination is so fun 😂
For $999 Samsung has a 16gb 512g Galaxy Book5 with a lame 2 normal P cores CPU https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/241860/intel-core-ultra-7-processor-255u-12m-cache-up-to-5-20-ghz/specifications.html
Yea prob going mac unless framework gets cheaper
you can spoof samsung apps to think youre using a galaxy book so nah
K. also hyped for fh6?
yes
still having issue with my cylone 2 contoller where xinput wont connect to pc but onlyp like playstation and nitendo mode it works
when on linux
works fine on windows
Thai base config can be had $400 off from retailer
If all you need is a good keyboard, HP or Lenovo depending on preference/price. Consider Lunar Lake at the ~$350-$450 price point.
You could go MBA, but it will cost more, and the keyboard isn't great on any of the macs
We also have rumors that the next gen pros will have TOUCH SCREEN tandem OLED displays
If they do
@hardy horizon wait return your pimped out MacBook and wait for next gen OLED touchscreen
No they aren't great, and snapdragon isnt amazing on compatibility still
Yea id go snapdragon but it inst polished enough yet
Finally went out of production in August 2025 iirc. Schools were the biggest buyer.
does wallpaper engine not work on linux
no
Wtf
I might wait a year and get that
Well actually no I don't think I will, never used touchscreen anyway
damn
But tandem olded screens
Id be getting the MBA anyway
wallpaper engine is the most useless thing ever
That's like saying buying a cosmetic fake plant is useless
What if you can fold it in half and use it like an iPad
yeah sure it is but it looks cool
Good thing I already have an iPad
you see the plant atleast
you dont go on the desktop to just stare at it
as a person who enjoy personalization I like the program alot
I agree on my phone and computer it's just pure black
My background is the default Windows 10 bg
?
The mandela effect isn't real dude, I was at the Computex 2024 keynote. It was awesome
should i buy a 5500x3d
the 5800xt came with an amd branded pa120 what lol
lol didn’t know that that’s funny
Idk do you want to
i assume only if you bought from their site
if you can find one for 140 usd or lower and you literally only care about gaming i don't see why not
yeah probably
because you probably won’t find one for under 140
150$ new
ddr5 ram
but ram is expensive so do whatever
hm, it depends on your priorities i guess. I personally like flexability and cores but i assume 5500x3d has alot of l3 cache. your choice dude
96mb i think
6 am4 cores that are at like 4ghz
My new r7 5700x3d was $170 on prime day years back
coolin
i can get a r7 7700x for that price
am5 cpus have lowered in price because ram is so expensive
170 is a fair price for that lol
that’s not a lowered price that’s just the reasonable price
amd brainwashed you with 300$ 7600x’s
i can get a 7600x for 108$
If its just tasks that don't need cpu performance, apple's swap is fine for that.
- yes, if you are just using a as a Chromebook that is a use case for the AIR.
- YES mini LED 1600 nits is WAYYY more expensive than the 60hz junk screen on AIR. Hell I personally think $600 is low value assessment for one of the best screens in laptops
- but apples resale STRONG, base config pros only loose like $400 per year
- I should m5 pro config above, then take $400 off for retailer discount.
Explain what you mean? You can just upload your files to Google drive or put them on an external.
7600x's are not that expensive, amd has however branwashed people to get 5000 series cpus for 300$ and x3d's for 550 minimum
Just use your laptop on a dock? Or you can try onedrive/ Google drive so it syncs.
The most reliable I personally found was keep everything on an external and just plug it into whichever device you're using.
Ahh, didn't know that, can you upgrade to the pro and just pay the difference?
I want a laptop that just syncs as an extention to my pc (i use onedrive)
Why not?
M6 WILL have the price hike and cellular, that has been announced.
The tissues
Who needs cell in a laptop???
depends on the person
Fucking hate carpets
Uh apparently thinkpad users
Nah but tbh i get it somewhat
Bruh, I'm serious
I predict the price hike with be at least $400 on Pro PLUS passing through the DRAM costs to the consumer.
I think we'll get an in-between version without the touch screen (That will be the new MacBook Air) and this new low cost device will be the entry level Mac.
I know im just messing with u
I KNOWWW, but we are already near that $5k mark, I prefer not to pay $7k for the same config
Anyways, i have 2 main phones cuz well one has an awful battery bit i want to try ios as main so yeah
ifone x and s8
S8 and xs max
You need a dbrand skin on those
They look so good tho ******* like 3 of them
Is that a thing? Is that one of those Microsoft account things that I don't use because ... Well Microsoft account?
The S8 was uh well mental issues
"prosumers" insex will bring the MacBook back into the prosumer only world.
Yes i can just hop to any windows laptop and have it act like a crapy version of my desktop
Typically the same ones that insist on buying an iPad with cellular
Anyways, uh cool photography
There are people who do that ?!?!
??? Link?
Honestly that seems like an amazing feature if you need to do work while travelling
You would be SHOCKED!
Especially with how carriers incentivize it and charge only $5 to add the device
Only devices I use cell are my watch and phone bc when I work i would kill my fold so I use a galaxy watch 7 for any txts
If i look at current ram prices, I'm almost a millionaire
They are seriously shipping MacBooks now without a power supply? Greedy assholes
??
Mine came with PSU
They deffo got em from recycling centers
It’s for the new M5 Air
Which is good because apples USB charging breaks 5A spec ...
Ddr4 and ddr5 holy
Brand new btw
Plus 64gb in the pc rn of ddr5
Oh, that makes sense TBH, before they just included a 30 watt adapter that was basically useless.
It's worth more than the pc when I bought it lol
nice, now sell two of those ramsticks to buy one of these
Wait,... $10 -$15 /GB
Dayumm
Doesn’t matter. It still should come with a adapter. Considering there are many people just entering the ecosystem. And needing an extra adapter for 50 bucks isn’t really customer friendly.
Lol funny thing
Just built it
Also selling a MacBook without a charging adapter also makes it worth less nowadays.
okay now get in it, and turn the water on
$10- $15 /GB. External SSD is $175/TB -$200/TB.
Nice job
Samsung doesn't care, and they don't include one with their iPhones
It is in a customer's house
Thanks been doing this since I was 14
What they are actually saying is because you have 24-hour battery life You don't need anything that would charge quickly Just use a normal 5w charger
Because you can literally use any adapter for a phone. But not for a laptop.
Yes you can, on MacOS
Funny. My m2 pro doesn’t charge with less than 25 watts.
I regularly charge my MBP with an 20w iPad charger, and have also done 10w charging.
the whole point of laptops using usb-c for charging is that they don't need a proprietary charger
Maybe an m2 thingm?
I use a 65 watt charger for my stuff funny thing tho is my monitor on my pc draws 165😭
Well if in actual spec. My Lenovo won't charge on 5v
Hmm. Could it be that it depends on the sales region? I’m in Europe. And as you know there are regulations for charging stuff now
Yea eu is good for chargers
well sure, but the point is that if people buy one good charger, they can use it for everything
Yeah so even less other reason to include a charging brick
YEP, That's why one of the options for air was a dual 30 watt charger.
Crazy how in 2005 I paid around 200USD for ocz platinum ram kits which were 1GB each now it's worse.
Its always something with ram I swear
It should be an option when buying than make it take off like 10$ for leaving it off
Yep at ddr3 launch 3 2GB sticks were $135.
I just bought a 100w charger years ago and have used that for literally everything that has usb charging
It is an option that you can add when you order if you want
technically now 240w is a thing but I haven't had a device that would pull over 100w over usb yet
Yea but they should add my default and only exclude when chosen so when they price stuff they have the real price its like tesla and their chargers where its like 32k for the car and oh here buy this for 4k (after install)you need it too
Overpriced but they were considered high end for the time lmao
They were tccd chip variants from samsung
why is it "real price" when most people already have an usb-c charger and don't need another?
it wouldn’t say good but better so… still pretty bad
power strips despite being somewhat “regulated” are shit in here even something like a switch inside the strips are held together by wonky springs (that ofc broke so that’s why i disassebled them) and i will not going to go into details about the horrendous solder job
psus aren’t regulated as well something like evolveo, akasa and eurocase… they’re pretty much rebranded alibaba stuff
No because that does not fit the environmental rhetoric of Apple. Because otherwise when they give these retailers all these base models everything on one of them would have a charger. Which would be wasteful
Hell even JBL $150 Bluetooth speaker doesn't include a charger or a cable anymore
got wallpaper engine working for linux via a plugin
nice
the issue with not including chargers ever is that when you need them you will buy them separately creating packaging and shipping environmental damage/issue
which is nice
animated wallpapers look nice but the problem is... I never see my wallpaper because I always have something open
Well and just like Tesla you don't need to buy a charger in order to use the Mac.
And you don't have to pay $4,000 you can get the mobile charger and it's completely fine Just plug it into 120 volt. Or just go full supercharging and with NACS being the new charge protocol you can even AC charge.
Id have to check the numbers if the majority have one that works than I agree
otherwise they would let you select a charger w/wo
bro look up the msrp of the 7600x lmao
msrp so ahh
300$ msrp
you can get a 7800x3d for less
I have used that you really do need the hard wired one
But fair point it is possible
Not really, Just use the superchargers.
the best solution would be just let people select if they want a charger or not, not force customers either with chargers or without… i know this is not the best solution as some remote areas will always not have everything in stock but better than nothing
msrp doesn't mean anything when the execution price is consistently different, besides there's no point in getting a last gen am5 processor anyways. a 9600x goes for at most the same average price. I see newegg listings for 200
Not where I live closest one is 30 min away it's also cheaper at home 7$usd for a full charge
bro. my point is that when they drop they’re 300$
stop defending amd’s terrible business practices 😭
it doesn’t matter what generation i picked
Right so you're choosing to pay for the $4,000 because you want the convenience that's kind of the point right. It's not necessary for it to operate there's plenty of public infrastructure available.
And again you could always just pay for the mobile connector for $220 You don't have to pay $4,000.
the fact a 3600 is the same msrp as a 7600x or 9600x (newer ones might actually be higher) doesn’t make any sense because they all have the same core count
That's Apple's point why we include a useless piece of junk charger that people are just going to throw away in the trash and cause a bunch of waste? Those that need it can choose to add one to their order or source One on their own
faster sure but paying 300$ for a brand new 6 core cpu is not on anyone’s bucket list
i5 12600k was $290 6p 4E
if you disagree with the fact that the cpus were in fact 300$ and have 6 cores idk what to tell you because all of that is true
Yes i am paying for the convenience. I also get it cheaper from home charging for a charge it is workable without the hard wired just not what I like
Right, And Apple's whole thing is minimizing environmental impact that's why they don't include a charger with the MacBook Air when the vascular people have a charger fully capable of powering the air. Included charger on the bigger notebooks because they're continuous power draw of over 100 watts would eat most chargers in that class
i made fun of the 9600x here in the past when it dropped because it was 300$ 😭💀
does that change anything, 7600x's averages around 225 usd today. lga 1700 is pretty good price to preformance because of its ddr4 support, 13th and 14th gen intel's launch was also bad because of stability problems but those were since fixed. now 14600kf's are meta for mid-high end builds. your thick aversion to amd as a whole sounds less like reluctance and more like whinning from a userbenchmark's alt account
what does this have to do with the price of the cpu when they come out
are you excusing poor pricing entirely
Since the Ryzen 5 SKU is the new Ryzen 3 "since we dont have consumer options" it should be under $120 like the ryzen 3300x ($150 inflation)
“uhh uhh it got cheaper so it’s fine now” is that seriously your argument
3D printing my own case, rughly how hot on the inside of the random case do you think a 2070 super and 5600x get? In PC hardware places I've been told I might get away with PLA but just use PETG and have good case airflow. But in 3D print servers I've been told at least PETG at a minimum and really to do ABS because for long sessions you'd soak through the PETG.
The case from maker world says PETG should be used though so idk? So can anyone help me out here I'm trying to figure out if this would work or not, least in PETG since I can't print ABS.
is the 9950x a good cpu
"I don't know I think $5,000 is completely reasonable for a 5090 when the same class of card inflation adjusted should only be $1,000"
So they include a charger for the higher draw laptops? If so thats where I have had my misunderstanding and im fine with leaving out on anything under like 40 to 60 watts
if you do things that need 16 cores
Type shit
thats not how inflation works
Yes, 70,96 or 140 depending on configuration
It does though.
Ok that is way better mb
if markets are consistently selling 5090's for far below 5000 usd that has nothing to do with inflation
i didn’t mention intel at all, although, even at the time of the 7600x being 300$ coops pointed out the 12600k being 290 lol
I was thinking they were like here's a 100w laptop figure it out
at the same time is the keyword
Same class card .....
i’m not factoring in ram or anything
icl im not getting help from my problem in the ticket
Oh no the point was don't excuse piss poor pricing.
what are you even arguing bro, you initally said inflation makes retailers sell higher msrp cards for lower prices
thats not how inflation works
maybe price increases from similar tier cards can be attributed to inflation, if thats what your saying i guess that makes sense
Oh no on the pros they included charger.
Ok good that makes since still I could always use another cord
Oh no I was just saying don't excuse piss poor pricing on MSRPs from manufacturers. That was all, the 5090 was an example. Technically 3080TI is the better example as there was no MSRP...
Oh yes because air does not have magsafe I guess you would not be getting a charging cord
Also people burn through the cords like crazy
I wonder what people do to their cords to break them 🤔
I literally don't care abound brands, or how bad a launch is. if an msrp is good then scalpers spike the price then its a product ill avoid, if an msrp is bad and i see a good deal for it, especially if prices are consistently good. depending on my board compatability and other things ill likely buy it. its not deep
Use them as rope
To k*ll themselves bc of gpu prices
???
I have no idea mine are always fine but everyone is know has the most busted cords ever
ram worse
I got my 9070xt for $610 "$10 above MSRP" it's just a skill issue
Nah gpu bc it also has ram
Wow killer find
gpu prices are way more stable
Ill agree for now
ram prices are 4x
November on amazing saw the writing on the wall and pulled the trigger
9070xt is $699 at mc which is only $100 over msrp. not bad
gpu prices arent even close
I see your point yeah I was just saying like don't let them give you a 10% improvement increase over last gen and then charge you 50% more and then not call them out on their BS... 5070=4090 type shit
But now it's too close in price to imaginary MSRP 5070ti $750
I am so glad I got my upgrade before ram crisis bc i got a 7 7800x3d 64gb ddr5 6000 a new motherboard and an aio for like 660$
It was 660 with the cash back I got
i sold 128gb of ddr5 right before ram prices went up
Noooooooo
yikes
Nice
😔
This is crazy it went up again 😭 it was 800 last time i checked
someone locally has 64gb listed for 600$
someone was willing to give me 96gb for 400$
new
😭😭 My 32 gig Ram alone was $330 😩
Buy it and trade it for a car 😭
no cheap cars here
430 now 😭
Not really, except for my super cheap cord that came with something I bought from Walmart brand most of my cords are like 5 years old
damn buy it and just use the ram
Really? That's intersting I live near a huge city and there are always cars for like 600 to 4000
I think here $4000 gets you a beater on its last legs
i dont think someone will swap 96gb of ram for a 4k car
its too much
and i want white with rgb
the ram he was selling was crucial something black with no rgb
I fell for the 80$ meta cord for link its amazing it is like 12gbps or smth like that it is a fiber line wrapped in copper for power
i would pay extra for that
i hate the rgb
tape on some extra mechanisms
this is what i have for ddr5 rn
it's so good
Dang those are clean those would make some amazing builds
I think some people now sell ramless pcs😭
and white ram
thats just not viable for me
Fair
Also saw people doing surge pricing on ram 😭
What cases are you useing?
Yea
nah the phone case
rugged
I actually completely resonate with this, what is going on with each generation too is shrinkflation, the 4000/7000 gpus from the 3000/6000 gpus experienced shrinkflation per model, a 4060 for example architecturally paralleled with 50 tier graphics cards of previous generations. It is how it is, companies are scummy. I'd recommend you to look it up videos go really in depth in the capacitor alignment. Some people think its a conspiracy but I honestly those people don't research enough
i dont have the 7950x3d and ram anymore i sold it seperately for dirt cheap
rn in my personal build i have a 12700k and a 20$ case wich came with 4rgb fans
i have a few cases layng around super basic tho
30$ fishtank 🤤
i dont have anything appropriate for the x670
i would need something real good for dat
i have a lianli white 360 aio tho i wanna pair with and also a corsair 360 with a screen
h150i or something lik that idk

i liked my XFX card but i still am not a fan of amd dgpu
better now tho, most my friends who built this year i recoed a 9060xt
amd drivers are the worst
intel hasnt been amazing
i havent had intel gpu
knew i was on an intel gpu when i launched a 15 year old cod game (world at war) and it crashed on the menu
it worked fine after that but it only got 90fps which is insanely low
i do not
my lunar lake is giving me more than enough performance
also
pro tip not all NVMEs support ASPM
aka be careful what SSDs you use in your laptop
saying this for no particular reason
Oh yeah it does huh, I must be thinking Abt a prior gen
"only" 😭

entire town beginning to end
im in the capital
capital of my country is like 8 miles from me
There are ongoing internet service disruptions in the Middle East and players may be experiencing increased latency. We're rerouting to nearby local servers in the region to try and improve this, and will keep you updated on any further developments.
More info here:
it has 350k people
theres like 62k people where i live
oh no fortinaet
i thought this was a different server icl
but i live next to 2 cities roughly the same size (theyre right next to eachother idk why theyre different) with the same amount of people
62k propably in my neighboirhoood
so its more like 120K where i live now
thought i was talking in the archlinux server and i was about to say why are u posting about fortnite in a linux server

there was like 4 or so, none of them insane, but one of them let me take all the stuff they were gonna recycle once
got like 3000$ worrth of working parts from a random expedition lol
Can i ask a quick question
not in my country
things people see as broken typically dont have value lol
Am i supposed to put thermal paste right on the shiny metal parts? Is it ok for it to get on the green parts
ur telling me a dell optiplex motherboard with a broken socket is not ewaste where you live lol
metal
And is it ok if it gets on the green parts
getting it on the dark green bit probably wont do any harm but itll be annoying to clean
marked in red
yea im sayng working stuff
yeah this stuff i got wasnt working
Alr precciate it
then i made it working
well
you gotta fix the ewaste
Thanks dawg, imma get to it
yur, spread it around flat against those shiny glassy surfaces
fixeable stuff gets sold to repair shops for dirt cheap
it doesnt have to be perfect
yeah bruv this was a repair shop lol
general pc/pc repair store
had old used towers, newer gaming stuff, builds to order + diagnostic
so a repair shop couldnt repair it and you did
yeah
chip
stupid ahh repair shop
i figure most of it was time/monetary tho
it was just 1 guy i think i was just taking a load off him tbh
same store legit doesnt exist anymore so
i wish people donated those kinds of things here
im getting
1tb sata
250nvme
128nvme

i got lots of rando ssds and ram and shiz
menacing
man i wish i could w*rk at a pc repair shop or sum like that
the pile
i worked as IT for a private company, i had access to a lot more for free than what i took
i couldve taken like 15+ desktops home but thats just too much space taken up for realistically something not worth it
decided on mostly their ram and ssds
then after a while i just took ram cause i dont need 15+ 128/256GB ssds
you would be surprsied how much small-medium businesses are upgrading their computers
That’s enough right? Should i put more?
