Depends on what you're doing. We recently decommissioned a large quantity of laptops older than the Latitude 7410 & 7420 series at work. The older devices were definitely showing their age, but most employee's that still have 7410 & 7420 models don't have issues. Granted, everyone has at least 16GB RAM, so that helps.

The biggest issue is the air cooler. Is it a TR system looking at it? As it’s just getting a load of dirty air manly from the GPU. The GPU gets the most clean air. They’ve tried to mitigate that with as many fans as possible but uh yeah, 2 does the same job as the 6 at the top of that case tbh

My external HDD runs really hot. I use it for daily backups. Is it best to unplug it when it's not in use so it doesn't run so hot, or leave it running to reduce start/stop cycles?

one of my reasons for that is that if my PC dies because of a power surge it won't take the backup with it

Also it can depend on what you have. I got a good price on a blower model and bought it without knowing what that was.

so its a 2tb drive, the "1.8tb" is because of how the filesystem works. There's overprovisioning for ssd health as well.

you're getting the most from your ssd. please do not do things to it to try and get more because it does not exist.
