Hello I was in the process of installing linux on my pc, which I just build like a month ago. Everything was going smoothly until one of the three bottom lian li fans turned off out of nowhere the other two were working fine until I shut down the pc and turned it back on now the other two are still spinning but no rgb and the middle one is still off. i have tried unplugging and plugging back in the power connection but still nothing. could it be something else or is it that the fan is completely dead and it needs replacement.

I wanted to pull out most power from my laptop with igpu(while its plugged in), so I went to power management, in advanced settings, I set minimum processor state to 100, pci power saving to off, and disk turn off time to 0, games seem fine but windows ui is lagging, why?

I don’t recommend using high performance mode on laptops

Make your laptop overheat for no gain

Just use balanced, let it boost to high clock speed only when needed

That’s how we used to do it back in the day

Laptop don’t have that great of a cooling, so something like opening a new tab in browser will spike the temperature, if it has more thermal headroom. It can boost higher for that split second or so resulting in snappier feeling. After ward it can reduce down the clock speed to reduce the temperature again. If you force it to run at high frequency all time, it cannot boost as high when needed and just make a lot of heat even when doing nothing.

Just use balanced your cpu will boost up when needed

Around 2010 my dad built a Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition system paired with an Sapphire HD 5770 graphics card. I only know the specific specs now because he gave me the whatever vauge connotations he could remember via videocall while i skimmed through the internet and basically asked him if this said image looked fimilar after hints. when i was young I remember it be discussed how much better it was compared to a ps3. he told me at some point the pins melted/or bent out of heating inadequacy. Some relatives remember the system being multi-gpu/crossfire and with how much of a gpu bottleneck there was its plausible but going off of what my dad said during the call that wasn't the case so what i think happened was the graphics card had notorious crossfire ports/compatibility and he might of had conversations with people related to the crossfire support causing the bad memory. could someone eli5 what the different use case for direct stream and live transcoding is on jellyfin? like my server has a gt210 and im able to stream video completely fine to my phone in a different city because im not live transcoding, when/why would i ever want to live transcode?

Question. I had an iMac harddrive fail in 2019 (started slowing down to the point it wouldn't boot) and we took it to like an apple authorized repair store or whatever cus that's what apple told us and we didn't know better. The issue is they charged us like 70 bucks and recovered only like 5 files total. (Was able to plug it in via USB and recover more files than them) I still have the harddrive, and there's a lot of files I never was able to get off, but the drive doesn't even read anymore. Is it possible to take it to like a drive repair store to getting working again after so many years of sitting while "broken" ?

h264 would be supported by everything, but stuff like h265, av1, vp9 is a little spotty on the coverage, certainly far from every modern device supporting everything

i need a compact form factor computer similar to like an optiplex micro that can run about 3 remote desktop protocols all running a game on 30-45 ish fps (so around 8 cores, 16 gb ram)

my #1 priority is being able to run those games obv but also energy efficiency

I mean then you are just looking for Small Form Factor tips then, you have to keep in mind clearances for like GPU and thermal stuff. I don't have exact specs but you can narrow down your search to just a SFF PC.

When you run something 24/7, especially if you expect high traffic Small Form Factor normally isn't the way to go. You want it to be stable, it's not a huge concern but I would do a bigger PC, you basically don't want a game server.
