Oh yeah so I just realized recently I probably put my power supply fan up when I replaced my 1000w with a 1350w. It's been fine for the year or so I've been using it, but next time I open up my PC I should probably flip it. Unfortunately ThermalTake decided they would put the fan at the top instead of the bottom like my EVGA one. There is a shroud over the power supply. Hopefully it doesn't get to hot, I have headroom. That's why I changed out the power supply.

no, 200 in the model number

nope, same thing

b650, b650e, b850, and x870, are all physically identical chipsets

and x670, x670e, and x870e, are all just two of the former chained together

bold olive
#

ima get gen 5 16x for my gpu so b850

mint umbra
#

I wish my mobo had more usb c slots

ocean axle
#

b650 can (should) also have that

#

just check the board for the features you want

#

if thats pcie 5.0 for the main slot, many have that

#

if not all, i forget if its all or not

valid garden
#

no not really

#

Windows To Go could not run on USB sticks, it was designed to run on removable media set as fixed

such as USB hard drives and drives connecred with SATA to USB adapters

do those even have a chipset?

what CPU?

rigid fjord

and yes, they have chipsets

valid garden
rigid fjord

X300 for example, and also EPYC in general

ooo, heres another one, lets play find the PCH

valid garden
ocean axle
bold olive
ocean axle

rigid fjord
ocean axle
valid garden
#

from what I find, boards without a "chipset" use the CPUs integrated IO ports

ocean axle
bold olive
#

oh it's for epyc

#

makes sense

rigid fjord
valid garden
#

I wish I had a Z series chipset I find it stupid that certain chipsets can lock overclocking (such as B series boards, atleast around my generation)

rigid fjord
#

quite literally doesn't need a chipset for the cpu to work, it just helps if you want to expand out the connection some more

ocean axle
#

all AM4, AM5, TR4/SP3/TRX40/WRX80, TRX50/WRX90/SP5, and SP6 CPUs are SoCs, so they dont need a chipset

#

they are quite literally just PCIe devices providing some IO capabilities, and are completely optional

valid garden
ocean axle
#

and x670(e) and x870e even chain two together for more IO

valid garden
#

intel chipsets just seem stupid

and obviously, I cant do BLCK (nor would I want too) since thats also locked on the B250M

ocean axle
#

7th vs 11th

rigid fjord
rigid fjord
valid garden
#

BLCK got significantly more dangerous starting with the 1st gen intel Core i CPUs, on Core 2 Duos, it depended on your clock generator, in some laptops the FSB clock was decoupled meaning an FSB OC would only touch your CPU and RAM. On others you would also overclock the PCI bus ruining things like Wi-Fi (in laptops) and make your sata freak out

ocean axle
#

technically 200 is 6th/7th, details

valid garden
#

if your system had an unlocked whatever chip and your clock generator seperated PCI from the rest, you could get solid boosts on core 2 duos

valid garden
ocean axle
#

yes

#

370 for 8th, 390 for 9th

#

cross compat ofc

valid garden
#

im pretty sure intel reused LGA 1151 for that yeah

ocean axle
#

yes

#

6th/7th is LGA1151 v1, 8th/9th is LGA 1151 v2

bold olive
ocean axle
#

they are mostly electrically compatible, but you need to trick the boards to do it

valid garden
#

I think one of the longest standing sockets was PPGA478, PPGA478 housed Pentium M, Celeron M, some dual core pentiums, and the Core 2 Duo T series of chips, so thats like 2004 to 2009 or so

#

maybe others stood for longer but on the mobile side

#

obviously not hot swappable, but electriclly, you could put a T5750 in a system with an M 740, though the BIOS would almost certainly not support it

valid garden

so im probably just gonna have my parents get me an i7 7700 as a CPU upgrade, because an i5 7400 doesnt look too great, no hyperthreading especially

hey guys need some help, im using a lenovo ideapad 3 from 2020 and recently ive tried updating the drivers and after a bit of tweaking and new driver updates i came to a final result of a 2025 i5 igpu driver and a 2021 dedicated mx130 gpu because thats the most stable combo i have for my laptop (ive tried both modern driver versions but they made my system run clunky). anyways my problem is that when i try to run games (roblox mainly) the first launch after a boot the gpu works fine and initializes my game, but the second launch causes the gpu to get stuck up in a state where it is used but it doesnt render my game and i can only hear the sounds of the game while not being able to see anything in the game. i need help brah....

#

i also have that little icon in my hidden icons area that indicates if my gpu is active or not and on the second launch it doesnt go active and just stays inactive

The GPUs are probably conflicting

Open settings and go to display, graphics add Roblox and set it to use the GPU you want

ive tried every surface level thing to fix

Lagging in old games? What’s your specs?

Or Pika Os with Plasma

There’s lots of distros to offer KDE some of them are more optimized that the box for gaming which if you’re moving from windows might be a priority to you

What specs you installing on for windows to be slowing you down in games

And 8 year old is like Ryzen 2xxx so probably not

topaz copper
cold skiff

8700k is much better than first gen ryzen for windows 11

#

For a start, one is supported and one isn’t

topaz copper

That being said, I think everyone should try Linux

If your installing Linux, you’re gonna be his tech support

tidal geyser

If you don’t need kernel level anticheat, linux works. You just gotta be prepared for the additional headaches Linux brings

What headaches are these?

cold skiff
tidal geyser
#

yea kinda

topaz copper
#

Chat GPt was first issue

#

I find for Lennox help Claude is better

cold skiff
#

IIRC people recommend bazzite for gamers due to the way it’s setup and what you need for gaming

thorny saddle
cold skiff
#

Optionally you can wait for desktop steamOS. That should make the linux experience simpler for gaming

#

Compiling your own app and dependencies etc that comes with linux is what has put me off since I was a teenager.

#

And then waiting for support for anything new is a pain.

topaz copper
#

Other than being built on arch, it’s still going to be atomic and it’s not gonna have any more features than we have today

cold skiff
#

For someone like me who doesn’t want to learn linux. It will set me up way and above and beyond for playing games that going out and installing say - fedora would.

topaz copper
#

I think if you’re unwilling to learn it, you should just stay on windows

cold skiff
#

Exactly why I do

topaz copper
#

Like for example, Linus will never move to Lennox full-time because he deleted his whole UI trying to install steam because he can’t read a manual

cold skiff
#

However if there’s a benefit and someone else is going to put in those 100s of hours to making an OS work better on linux, so I don’t have to learn it. It makes it accessible.

sinful cobalt
cold skiff
#

I’d also argue your OS shouldn’t be work…

hard oxide
topaz copper
#

I don’t really care what people use. I just think whatever you want to use should function like I think all games should work even if I don’t play them and then you can decide from there or what you use. You shouldn’t have a gun to your head telling you, you must use this to install X.

#

But if that comes after the expense of having you install kernel level malware, I guess that’s a choice I’ve made

cold skiff
#

Isn’t that how an OS works though? If you don’t have dependencies you can’t use certain programs

hard oxide
#

Also, I sent what errors I get at #linux when I ignore it and move on with the installation it gives another error and then just kinda crashes

topaz copper
cold skiff
#

Right

topaz copper
#

It’s the main reason I never bought Battlefield six

#

I don’t agree with kernel levdl

cold skiff
#

It’s something we refused a long time ago, if you’re a certain age you will remember

#

Now though, people act like it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

#

However blame that cronus device

#

If that didn’t exist, you wouldn’t have kernel level anticheat enforced. Then you got DMA ontop

topaz copper
#

Like I’m past the age where Fortnite ever appeal to me and I remember when my computer was mine something this younger generation doesn’t seem to understand why we care and we’re just called boomers technologically anyway

cold skiff
#

DMA is a unique situation

#

Within 5-10 years streamers popularities will dwindle when kernel level anticheat gets good enough to catch all those gadgets and hacks they use to look cool

#

Only the actual good people will remain… and 95% of them are not entertaining

Hey guy's R4GE VipeRzZ here, and today I'm going to show you how can update your BIOS on a Gigabyte motherboard.

In order to do this we will need a USB storage device that can be used to store the BIOS update files. To update the BIOS we will transfer the files to the USB, booting into the BIOS, and then install the new BIOS through Q-Flash.

there was a genuine instability concern near launch for 14000 series, but those have been fixed. the graph doesn't surprise me, the context of "field failures" are a combination of failed overclocking, poor cooling, and genuine architecture-based stability failures while "shop failures" are between buying a suspiciously underpriced processor from a poorly rated ali express seller and things going wrong in the assembly line.
