azure topaz
#

you are misinformed

#

core ultra replaced core i

warm anvil
#

Why

naive temple
#

im asking this cause im looking at a pc rn and it doesnt seem worth it

azure topaz
#

they do not coexist

warm anvil
#

His windows 11 debloat script works wonders

azure topaz
#

one is explicitly last generation

tidal geyser
#

now this is more like it

naive temple
azure topaz
#

yes

naive temple
#

i didnt know that

fringe prairie
rigid fjord
#

to many fuck their pc up with it and needs to reinstall their windows, if you want to debloat, use atlas, it's at least well documented

tidal geyser
#

or well whenever i get the screen for it

azure topaz
fringe prairie
#

the laptop too? dang

warm anvil
#

Thats fair buyers don't want linux

tidal geyser

its not a done deal but like i did semi promise

warm anvil
#

Whats an npu?

naive temple
#

im swaying towards amd aswell

dawn garden

naive temple
dawn garden
#

it arrives tomorrow and im excited to get ahold of a bajillion trillion zillion speed increase

azure topaz
#

x3d is much faster but only if your gpu can keep up

frail sequoia
naive temple
#

i had a 7600x/32gb/rtx 3060 12gb pc

azure topaz
#

if ur playing a game and already hit 100% gpu usage you dont need x3d

naive temple
#

which i sold a few days ago, im looking for a new one now

dawn garden
#

3440x1440? is that even 16:9?

warm anvil
naive temple
#

and yes as u can imagine the cpu gpu combo didnt work well

azure topaz
frail sequoia
#

alr ty, does it auto boot with the system?

dawn garden
#

ddid they not? i have a 5700 and 3060 12gb

warm anvil
#

I made mine auto boot

dawn garden
#

and they seem to work great?

naive temple
azure topaz
#

he plays games at 3440x1440

warm anvil
#

On Catchy in settings u can make stuff suroboot

dawn garden
#

ah its a thicc boi

azure topaz
#

why are you taking it as a personal attack on your system hes not even talking to you 😭

naive temple
dawn garden
#

..is it? ;-;

#

i cant afford to upgrade for another 18 mo

naive temple
#

i mean for my res, for 1080p its probably still good

dawn garden
#

oh right okay

azure topaz
#

if you are happy with your computer it just doesnt matter

azure topaz
#

i mean it gets tuah point where youre just lying to yourself

dawn garden
#

i mean i havent found any games i cant play

azure topaz
#

but you have a fine computer so

dawn garden
#

unless they are just ..not optimized?

grizzled frost
#

16 hours later, render still running

warm anvil
#

My old xbox is a 720p demon

azure topaz
grizzled frost
#

only on step 4 of 11 at that

dawn garden
#

like the only game ive ever had crash was cities skylines 2

grizzled frost
dawn garden
#

nad i dont think it was the gpu.. lol i think it tried to destroy my cpu tho...

warm anvil
naive temple
#

thats not even a demanding game

azure topaz
grizzled frost
hexed tapir
azure topaz
azure topaz
dawn garden
#

cities skylines 2 is notoriously demanding?

azure topaz
#

yes

dawn garden
#

what do u mean its not a demandng game

grizzled frost
naive temple
warm anvil
#

@tiktok_cars09 opacity at the bottom

grizzled frost
#

and that server has less ram than my desktop

dawn garden
#

yes?

naive temple
#

hows that demanding lol

warm anvil
azure topaz
#

its more cpu heavy than anything

dawn garden
#

....idk? simulating an entire city i guess?

dawn garden
#

its really demanding on mid/low cpus

#

like say a ryzen 7 5700 ?

azure topaz
#

bleh

warm anvil
#

Bluh

dawn garden
#

aka what i have whcih is why it crashed my pc

naive temple
#

how long were u in the game before it crashed

dawn garden
#

about 45 minues

naive temple
#

and if it only crashed once id say ur fine

dawn garden
#

it takes about 45 minutes to build even a small city though?

grizzled frost
#

the step it’s on doesn’t work with GPU rendering at all unfortunately

dawn garden
#

once the traffic starts and or a disaster happens my computer cooks

#

its literally the ONLY game that does that

naive temple
dawn garden
#

doesnt help

azure topaz
#

idk emulating ps3 pretty hard

dawn garden
#

its not graphics thats the issue...

naive temple
#

i never had cpu issues, even before with my 5600

dawn garden
#

i mean that i have floppa

azure topaz

we got dumb and dumber here man

dawn garden

i dont emulate consoles cos im scared of big nintendo

azure topaz

they cant find me

frail sequoia
dawn garden

i finally broke down and bought a switch 1 ....in like december of 2024

azure topaz
#

i also dont play nintendo games so

dawn garden
#

now im so salty at nintendo i dont even want to play my switch games

frail sequoia
# azure topaz

xenia manager doesnt work on linux i dont think 😭
i need to try and figure out how to get canary on arch 😭

azure topaz

#

rpcs3 is pretty shit so ive mostly began to play games on xenia now

dawn garden
#

i mean i can play gears of war on my pc and red dead too

#

i think ?

azure topaz
#

idk if gow 1 is on pc natively but red dead is now

frail sequoia
dawn garden
#

u can stream it thru gamepass im fairly sure

azure topaz
#

been using it all week

#

not great man

#

if i click it with the wrong attitude itll freeze and i gotta restart it, often

frail sequoia
#

im installing nfs: mw 2005 redux v3.04 rn

azure topaz

same thing happens to my homie on a completely different platfoorm so i know its not just me tweakin

For as large as UK AC plugs are, I really appreciate their safety features. Fused plugs, the ground prong makes contact before the hot / neutral plugs during insertion, the breaker boxes are way smaller than North American boxes, etc.

tidal geyser
#

surge protectors was the namo

queen trout
#

Some of these silentware cases have like a max cpu cooler height of like 185 i think its not actually that tall

buoyant bridge
#

surge protected meters are installed on essentially all US homes nowadays

buoyant bridge
#

And they protect the whole home unless you've got some stupid wiring setup

tidal geyser
#

wtf why is everyone getting a 2nd one

buoyant bridge
#

2nd one?

tidal geyser
#

yes one dedicated for their desktop external one

buoyant bridge
#

because most people don't know their meter is surge protected

tidal geyser
#

sad

balmy tapir
buoyant bridge
#

The electrical company put one in that's surge protected unless you haven't had your power bill changed in 30+ years

formal sonnet
buoyant bridge
hexed tapir
buoyant bridge
#

And replacing your outlets with grounded ones is really easy if your home is newer than the 60s, take a multimeter and test the gang box to hot, if you get 120V you have a ground connection

buoyant bridge
balmy tapir
buoyant bridge
#

Gang boxes have been grounded since 1958 and residential outlets share a ground pin with the body, even if your ground wire was tied into the box then cut preventing you from connecting it to the outlet, when you screw the outlet in it'll connect the ground (this is up to code for retrofits basically everywhere btw)

#

just test between the hot terminal and the body of the old outlet before doing that if get 120 or -120 you have ground too

hexed tapir
balmy tapir

like my massive 5 bedroom farm house is fully GFCI protected. On the retro fitted circuits it's using a single GFCI with everything else downstream of them, on the new wired ones it's using GFCI breakers, I only have 16 GFCI outlets and 12 GFCI breakers on a 300A panel

buoyant bridge
#

GFCI outlets have a line/load
line = in
load = out (protected by the single GFCI outlet)

bold olive

we are talking about a 1 bedroom apartment where there is fewer than maybe 5 outlets, every single one of them being a gfci is recommended by code in my area

so yeahhh

you do not have each outlet on separate circuits 😭

I actually find that impossible to believe

and they each all of their own circuits in the breaker panel

If you had every outlet on a separate circuit you'd only be able to have like 10 outlets (not including lighting or 240V)

Heck even on a large 300A panel like I have you'd still be limited to 42

hidden nymph

huh its almost like u js ignored my previous sentence where i js said this thing has 5 receptacles max

💀

buoyant bridge

that's terrifying if true😭

#

Though if actually true every outlet being GFCI makes sense

hidden nymph

well its a small one bedroom apartment where only one person gonna be doing shit at once, so yes, it makes sense for the rooms to have their own outlet, u dont need a ton, the only non gfci dedicated is the fridge one, but that one is still protected

#

by the one next to the kitchen sink

buoyant bridge
#

and most of the dedicated ones I've seen are ALSO tandem

#

both are very rare to see though. Tandem dedicated is kinda common on more expensive custom built homes because they'll use a over spec wire and a 2 gang box so if you wanted you can swap the outlet and breaker and have 240V

#

My garage was and still is like that for literally every outlet. 10ga wire for dedicated gangs with 4 outlets in each back to tandem breakers in the panel I could sorta easily replace with 240V breakers and outlets if I wanted to

The US electrical system has standardized outlets that carry more power than European homes have available and they're still the same basic design as US outlets

buoyant bridge

if you want a switch you can just wire a light switch to a outlet in the US

Also the US has up to 3 phases so we can have wayyy more power at a single gang box via weird wiring standards even on residential panels
