Dell shares the BIOS between their x86 Pentium M and x86_64 BIOSes it would by unruly to modify the 64 bit version to support more ram than even the average 2007 power user would need, just too much extra work

and its all 3GB max

its easier to just make a bios that is basiclly one fits all with minor adjustments for different hardware

of course you cant just use another BIOS on one, but the core is the same

an Inspiron 9300 bios wouldnt work on a 9400

This is a huge oversimplification, but RJ-45 ethernet cables are generally good for use within a building, so long as your cable runs are under 300ft, while Coax can run for multiple KM's without needing amplification.
