The receiver decodes the signals (Dolby etc), provides a way to switch between inputs, amplifies the signal for speakers and adds some EQ functionality. But what sounds good or bad mostly depends on the speakers themselves, receiver has some input on it, but not that much

and yes, a good speaker setup will be always superior, just based on the sheer size of the speakers

Oh. Idk it was a used board. When it died it was maybe 7 years old back in 2023? One of the chips on the south or north bridge failed after a month or 2 after getting the pc.
