IM TRYING to sneak past the robbers, but the clap of my dummy thicc cheeks

it works. It doesn't bug out on me
99% of the things people complain about have either never happened for me or I don't notice

#

"the file explorer is slow" HOW I've only seen it be slow with samba shared but 10 is too, windows has always been slow with samba

stable beacon
#

but guys do you have any clue why my games are just crashing because why not

stable beacon
buoyant bridge
#

Wouldn't you like to know how I guessed that one

stable beacon
#

it's never happened before

buoyant bridge
#

AMD randomly breaks their GPU drivers because they enjoy making their users suffer

spring latch
buoyant bridge
#

(they don't test them before releasing anymore is what it feels like)

stable beacon
spring latch
buoyant bridge
buoyant bridge
#

they essentially ruined the possibility of there being a used market with AMD Ryzen pro laptops

stable beacon
#

well hopefully

buoyant bridge
#

OOBM is setup via a efuse so you can't disable it once it's setup which essentially prevents Buisness laptops from ever being resold if they have an AMD CPU since Ryzen AI first gen

spring latch
buoyant bridge
#

I don't like randomly bringing Linux into a conversation about windows

buoyant bridge
#

like yeah you can switch to Linux but I know like 90% of people who actually say that and haven't already done it won't ever do it

stable beacon
#

i technically have dual boot ubuntu but i haven't used it once since 2022

buoyant bridge

I use fedora and solus everywhere but my gaming PC

#

oh and I use windows server because Hyper-V is too good to give up on

void bronze
#

i just switched back to windows from linux

buoyant bridge
#

^most users won't switch to Linux permanently

void bronze
#

i like everything working without command line

buoyant bridge
#

this is why most users won't switch to Linux permanently

#

command line is scary or inconvenient to most people

stable beacon
#

...and the drivers didn't solve shit

buoyant bridge
#

AMD GPU moment

stable beacon
#

is there a log or something that could explain why my games are crashing

void bronze
#

imagine nvidia wins gpu crisis by doing nothing

buoyant bridge
#

The GPU is either dying or the drivers don't like your PC

void bronze
#

amd implodes by itself

buoyant bridge
#

AMD is losing market share again

void bronze
#

or just be intel arc and have noone talk about you

buoyant bridge
#

A lot of Linux users use arc they just don't exist in non super Linux specific communities

plain cypress
#

We love Intel arc

buoyant bridge
#

we do love arc

#

I literally do not care if arc is on paper the worst choice competition is good

#

I'm considering buying an arc GPU just to give Intel my money and engage in an awesome thing known as society by not turning off error reporting so Intel can improve

void bronze
#

/s capitalist pigs

spring latch
#

I have an RX 580 so i get to have stable 2023 drivers

plain cypress
#

My arcs are sitting on a shelf for now

stable beacon
#

so far i'm stuck with just singleplayer but i know that's not the case because sometimes it would crash on startup

buoyant bridge
spring latch
#

from 2017, but they got active updates until 2023, which is funny

buoyant bridge
#

AMD still makes 570 dies for servers

#

Inspur uses the RX 570/560 as their in built GPU

void bronze
#

i miss amd vega

spring latch
#

NVIDIA actually supported the kepler GT 700 series (probably not through drivers after a certain point) until September 2024

void bronze
#

GT 710 MY BELOVED RIDES ON

spring latch
buoyant bridge
#

the G200s all got a basic WDDM driver till 2023

spring latch
#

the ATI Mobility Radeon X300 was cool, not because of support, but Windows Vista came with native WDDM Aero drivers, and Windows 7 had them avalible

#

which is fair, the mobile X300 was a powerful mobile card

buoyant bridge
#

did y'all know all X86 systems have at least one PCI link regardless of a slot is present or if it's even used

spring latch
buoyant bridge
#

Intel just wrote a requirement for a PCI link to be available to remain X86 complaint

spring latch
#

though its either exposed thru ACPI or PCI depending on the controller

buoyant bridge
#

doesn't have to be connected it just has to be present

#

UEFI class 3 systems can't actually use it though

spring latch
#

until SATA doesnt exist anymore, PCI will still exist as a whole

spring latch
buoyant bridge
#

mhm

spring latch
#

WHAT THE FUCK

buoyant bridge
#

it's incapable of bios boot

spring latch
buoyant bridge
#

Class 3*

#

How the fuck did I get auto corrected to 4

spring latch
#

OH

#

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO

buoyant bridge
#

4 is proposed though but it's not finalized

spring latch
#

well yeah i knew class 3 removed CSM

buoyant bridge
#

class 3+ technically is incapable of using PCI for anything

#

and windows 11 on new PCs requires class 3+ (which isn't even an actual spec it's a weird spec Microsoft made up)

spring latch
#

some manufaturers switched to it mid run, the Dell Wyse 3040 with a pre-1.2.2 dell BIOS has CSM, but 1.2.3+ is Class 3

#

im using the wyse as an example cuz i had that

#

though thankfully projects like CSMWrap exist now (even if not so stable)

buoyant bridge
#

Intel started building in a CSM wrapper which is funny

#

"oh yeah we killed your ability to boot csm here's a new way"

spring latch
#

i assume they scrapped it or smth

buoyant bridge
#

no they just only have it on vpro stuff

#

my old desktop board can do it but only with a vpro CPU installed

spring latch
#

huh only good thing intels ever done in the past 5 years?

#

idek what timeframe

buoyant bridge
#

All the fucking time since the beginning of them knowing what Linux is
Also they have sub divisions of all their main software departments dedicated to Linux

trim mason
#

guys with a 5090 should i get 9800x3d or 7800x3d?

plain cypress
buoyant bridge
#

Intel wifi is known for working so well because just the Linux side of the Intel wifi software development department is larger than AMDs entire software department for Ryzen

spring latch
trim mason

If you already have 7800x3d, different story
If you're buying, get 9800x3d

plain cypress

googling is a lost art

buoyant bridge

Intel doesn't contribue to open source stuff out of the good of their heart fyi they do it because it allows them to run off with shitloads of US government money much easier

Value for money

trim mason
buoyant bridge
plain cypress
trim mason
#

which one would be the best ffs

cold skiff
#

Get a 9800x3d. What’s 200 extra bucks when you’re already spending dram money on a 5090 at like 3k.

plain cypress
#

The short answer if you're already buying the best GPU, why settle for the anything besides the best gaming cpu

plain cypress
#

I feel like I already said that a lot earlier

cold skiff
#

Yes it is

buoyant bridge
#

The AMD A6-9500 might actually be the best desktop CPU ever made in recent years
Such great IPC, such good heating capabilities, it even has a lot of cores

cold skiff
#

Because more money = better component

plain cypress
cold skiff
#

Me buying a 5090 would be mad shit… cause I play 1080p

#

Imagine spending 3k on a 5090 to only spend 100 on a monitor lol

buoyant bridge
plain cypress
#

I would do despicable things for that much Intel foundry silicon

buoyant bridge
#

when it gets retired just sign it out as discarded and take it

cold skiff
#

Sign it out as defective and binned

plain cypress
cold skiff
#

That’s how that stuff works

buoyant bridge
#

you need to do it as discarded or the IRS gets upset

cold skiff
#

Sorry in this situation binned means put in the trash

buoyant bridge
#

if it's removed from inventory as discarded that means it was thrown away and legally you can take trash

cold skiff
#

My Britishness there

plain cypress
#

I've only held like bare SI wafers

#

I have a deep desire to use them as a frisbee but I have the feeling they would make for terrible frisbees

buoyant bridge
#

Intel should do a special edition CPU like they did the 8086K and 9990 and ship them in packaging that's a defective wafer

plain cypress
#

Also we have to reduce our defects by 50% by end of April, so my Q1 is fucked

buoyant bridge
#

Like the plastic wafer shells i9s and i7s used to ship in but an actual defective wafer

#

This packaging but a real wafer for some low production number special CPU

plain cypress
#

Goated boxes

#

Actually dodecahedron box was best

#

But the wafers are like 99.9999% as good

buoyant bridge
#

I wonder how much money Intel dumps into box design

#

it's gotta be close to apple sometimes

#

They put a lot of care into some of their packaging

plain cypress
#

Not as much

#

Most of Intel products don't go into boxes

buoyant bridge
#

They mostly come in black cardboard carriers

cold skiff
#

I’d imagine Apple spends way more. Business consumers get a box. I’d imagine OEM Intel is like 50 CPUs in an unbranded brown box marked Intel cpu name

buoyant bridge
plain cypress
#

Apple absolutely has a chief box executive

cold skiff
#

Yeah Apple loves their branding even if no one see’s it

buoyant bridge
#

Xeons come in plastic clamshells that hold 1, 2, or 4 CPUs since multi CPU stuff from Intel comes in pairs

cold skiff
#

600 CPUs? Hot damn.

#

That’s a big clamshell

sleek ibex
#

Intel's old marketing slaps hard cacopog

buoyant bridge
plain cypress
cold skiff
#

MMX ftw

plain cypress
#

Old Intel ads were fantastic

buoyant bridge
#

Xeons come in clamshells like this for oems

cold skiff
#

That awful intel inside chime though

buoyant bridge
#

This is what oems get Intel CPUs packaged like

cold skiff
#

Thats a good steal. No bulk. Fits straight in ya backpack. No one would know

buoyant bridge
sleek ibex
cold skiff
#

Depends who you work for I guess

buoyant bridge
#

"oh 21 in order serial numbers are missing, that's weird looks like a tray is missing"

cold skiff
#

For all we know dell could misplace those things all the time

#

Believe it or not that happens with bank notes…

buoyant bridge
#

tray CPUs get packaged like this

steel umbra
#

or even better cardboard

buoyant bridge
cold skiff
#

When I worked for a bank a few moons ago now over half a million a year went “missing” and rarely was anyone fired for stealing

steel umbra
#

it can be anywhere from a plastic tray to little foam packet (up to the seller or distributor)

cold skiff
#

You would think that this money is traced but nope. It’s just claimed for on insurance.

buoyant bridge
#

I'm not a big fan of AMDs OEM packaging

cold skiff
#

It’s down as a reasonable loss

#

Thieving happens, ours the budget per year was 750k and it was always around 450-550k a year

buoyant bridge
cold skiff
#

Probably.

buoyant bridge
#

My brother used to work for a federal branch bank and they kept VERY tight track of serial numbers (all automatic at drawers and counters) and they'd know which serial numbers went missing

cold skiff
#

Good luck asking anyone to trace it or look out for it. Just because you find the note doesn’t mean it’s the person that stole it

steel umbra
#

that sounds like… ._.

buoyant bridge
#

they could tell you exactly where it went missing and which exact note went missing

cold skiff
#

UK kvetinky

cold skiff
#

You can tell the location it was sent to. Remember, this never turned up, it never “arrived”.

steel umbra
cold skiff
#

Apparently the banks do. I was stunned to see that’s the losses we make.

buoyant bridge
#

so if $10000 in $20s got stolen that'd be a few thousand incident reports

cold skiff
#

It’s like a cpu tray for say dell. They can just write it off as accidentally thrown in trash. No one would then care or even look or notice serial numbers if you say sold it all on eBay

buoyant bridge
#

when I worked for Dell we had people in loss prevention that did exactly that

cold skiff
#

I said they can. Not they do.

buoyant bridge
#

they'd look for large numbers of recent CPUs being sold off on sites like eBay and Craigslist and occasionally even buy 10-15 and see if one of our missing serial numbers turned up

stable beacon
#

the game runs now, but i think i'm right about the ram.

steel umbra
#

insurance fraud is dum, you’re just making it more expensive for everyone else at on average total net loss

buoyant bridge
#

I worked in an adjacent department and pretty commonly had to talk with federal investigators whenever they found missing serial numbers this way

steel umbra
#

if you like jump under a car to claim insurance

cold skiff
#

Heh. How may people do you think we’re ever prosecuted though

buoyant bridge
#

I handled getting paperwork to company lawyers

#

insurance wouldn't reimburse the company unless we determined where the lost CPUs went AND also had evidence of police involvement

#

employee accidentally dumps a tray in the trash? Cool we've got video of that to hand to insurance with proof said employee was reprimanded

#

Someone steals them? Company didn't get shit back untill we found evidence of who may have stolen then and filed police reports and then submitted copies of said police reports

cold skiff
#

Yeah in the UK we don’t go that far. Ironic really

buoyant bridge
#

Have you ever actually been involved with a loss prevention department

#

they have pretty wide internal investigation powers and can definitely track theft down

cold skiff
#

I’d say we don’t because we don’t want to protect tech like that where as you guys are very protective for good reason

steel umbra
#

ultraprocessed sand

cold skiff
#

It still amazes me how much money a banks retail division just writes off

buoyant bridge
cold skiff
#

I mean they do trace some. There was a case of an employee for us caught which was mega lols

#

She was high level

#

Wined and dined with MPs and everything

buoyant bridge
#

Usually what happens from what I've seen is the bank doesn't do anything and just keeps handing evidence to the government and then government fraud investigators catch the person after they've been doing it for 6 or more months with shit loads of evidence

#

it's not worth it to anyone to do something about a trained employee who stole $500 once

#

that $500 won't come back, you'll be out much more money replacing them. Most businesses don't care

cold skiff
#

IIRC another one stole like 1billion so that was always gonna get caught

#

Took like a decade or something

steel umbra
#

in my country our le politics steal few millions here and there, nobody cares/cannot do anything
release criminals known and sentenced for corruption and mafia

cold skiff
#

When the financial crisis hit in 2007, that’s the main reason these people got caught

buoyant bridge
#

I own 2 businesses and the guy I hired for loss prevention at the warehouse crunched the numbers we literally lose more money replacing someone who's stolen less than $8K in monetary value than we do to just ignore it

cold skiff
#

Oh yeah a lot of the time it isn’t worth it

buoyant bridge
#

it costs roughly $26K to replace someone at the warehouse who's actually working

cold skiff
#

Knowing your employees steal millions a year though, tough to swallow.

buoyant bridge
#

And it costs $100K+ each year the first 3 years to replace upper management

buoyant bridge
#

They did return everything surprisingly, don't have to waste money training someone that way

cold skiff

steel umbra
cold skiff

Possibility it’s more likely, as most of us poor people genuinely need our jobs and the risk/reward isn’t there

#

For sub $400 and maybe even sub $350 for excellent condition refurbished from Amazon or maybe eBay for a pixel fold if someone needs a pixel because they want to run GrapheneOS and needs to replace the pixel 7 they have had since a month after launch because older battery and display issues...any reason not to get the fold? I was looking at the 9 fold or the 10 series but the 9 fold is like $800 and the 10 series is even worse in emulation (right?) and I don't game much on my phone anyways (less clash royal counts).

Steam being in C is insanely wild considering how much they changed the PC gaming space:

  • Easier access for multi-controller support
  • Has a HUGE library of games along side with consistent discounts
  • Free online
  • Best formatting of supporting external drives
  • Offline mode to boot your games still even when your internet craps out

Only real issues is mainly regarding how they license their games, but other than, Steam is truly the supreme launcher

For me AMD have missed a trick. That tier of 7800xt performance in raster doesn’t exist. You can get like 10% better in a 9070, but they could have really stood the 8gb and 16gb apart with that level of raster instead of 7700xt levels

the 9070 is between a 7800xt and 7900gre, though a 9070xt is more a direct competitor to a 7900xt
