The UP2715K came out before 5K was really able to exist over display port and the casing acts as a giant heatsink, if you try to run them without the casing they'll cook the display controller fairly quickly

It's got a full ass arm SOC as it's display controller since it needs to combine 2 display signals

that's why LG didn't sell the LM270QQ as a discrete display till a few years after they begun producing it for the iMac 27" btw because they couldn't find a display controller that could reasonably be used for it

AND that's why the UF5K is Thunderbolt only despite being targeted at windows PCs since the only one they could find is actually using thunderbolt links and not display port links (its one of the very very very few monitors that do this)

granted this was in 2017, Planar and Asus proved you can do it over display port just fine nowadays
