Recently, I recovered an old-school 10/100 Network Hub, and I ideally want to build a complete 1990s-to-early-2000s network for fun. While there isn’t much practical use for it, these items can have value in the market if you find the right buyer. Plus, I work at a place that recycles this kind of equipment regularly, so I can always recycle it if needed. Still, I’d much rather explore the past – a time when computers were known for their upgradability and reliability. Did I mention that the hub I recovered was in service until just two months ago, dating back to the 1990s? Modern hardware can’t quite beat that!

Redid the personal servers cable management

And added some duct tape so that it runs a bit cooler by preventing air leakage

Ive done similar things to this with duct tape before on other servers with tower coolers, with very high speed fans it'll lower temps by 2-6 degrees

When I redid the cables I replaced the sata splitters so the side panel can fit again since back when I put the SAS drives in like 6 years ago I didn't feel like ordering lower profile sata splitters for the SAS cables so they where just a bit too far out and you had to push the side panel in where the drives r

All I've done to it the past 6 years before today was repaste it twice and replaced the CPU coolers with some larger tower ones

This server was built very quickly back when I moved back to Ohio from Texas nearly a decade ago and had sold off 99% of my stuff

(I had a 8000 SQ ft mini mansion in Texas I had built myself and sold nearly everything in it)

Except for bunches of cables that are zip ties together like the 2 sets of SAS break out cables and the sata cables there's only a max of 4 zip ties in there on any single cable and I probably won't upgrade this anymore

it has the borderline best CPUs for it. Max ram the board can take (256GB) I might upgrade the HDDs some day and I want to add extra SSD cache (cables are run for that now cus I did that while redoing everything)

I'll just end up building another NAS in a case with more bays probably instead of any upgrades except extra SSD cache

10 HDD bays and 7 SSD bays (4 of which are unusable cus of how the case is setup) was enough back in 2016 but honestly my needs have expanded a lot and I wanna eventually consolidate all my home stuff down to 2 servers. they use these things for attaching the screws they're esentially a machine bolt what goes into these with a really low torque spec, just put it together so the peices aren't able to move freely

I personally like having an uninterupted workspace near my computer so I just built my massive L desk since when im done renovating my house this room is only gonna be an office and im gonna expand the desk so its a U desk all the way around and build a lot of large drawers under it

desk size is litterally just whatever you want, measure for your needs/comforts if they dont fit into it you need a larger one, if it feels too empty then you need a smaller one

heck if you wanted to get fancy you could even just use basic image editing programs to draw all the measurements out and see if you like it.

I used to do this for shit like lighting math since it gives you space to write things to think about or that need to be changed
