(third isn't super pronounced, but it's also a 2x8 kit so idc, it's also ddr4)

boreal vine
#

Fuck that pricing honestly

stuck spruce
#

let me guess, vengance ddr4

mint umbra
#

Either way ram still isn't that expensive

grizzled frost
mint umbra

200 isn't that much

boreal vine

I wanted to upgrade some on my rig, but decided not to

boreal vine

even ddr4 on the used market isn't safe

stuck spruce

bro you couldve gotten a pc with that price bro

grizzled frost

Need I go on Damocles?

mint umbra

Maybe ram was just undervalued before

hallow jasper

the cheapest 600CL30 kit in Canada on PCPP is $283 CAD

That same kit was $127 CAD in August of this year.

lament flint

whats the current price in cad and usd for a pair of 64gb 4800mhz cl36 kingston fury beast? i would really like to test out the differences in prices over the 3

grizzled frost
#

there is no way someone is this ignorant on literally every topic

mint umbra

Cuz ram was dirt cheap before

why the fuck is it going up that way

Why do I need more ram

16 is enough

For most games

grizzled frost
hallow jasper
mint umbra
#

Yes it is

stuck spruce
grizzled frost
#

16gb is barely enough for most modern titles, flat out isn’t enough for lots of them

lament flint
#

take ES: oblivion remake for instance. its 16gb recommended, but you can still run it on less. it will glitch out and crash sometimes though, but it works

glass perch
mint umbra
#

I like to believe valve knows what their are doing

grizzled frost
mint umbra
#

Like what games require more than 16 GB

lament flint
#

nvm. optimal is 32gb, and min is 16. weirdly enough im able to play it with 14gb of ram (idk why, but my laptop doesnt find my last 2gb)

lament flint

grizzled frost

a certain amount is partitioned off for core system use

lament flint
hallow jasper

edgy holly
mint umbra

Like what reason would I need more ram for lol

hallow jasper
edgy holly
#

im still running 2x8 but that's mostly cause im a cheapskate and i havent changed my ram since i got my first pc (whhich was a prebuilt)

lament flint
mint umbra
#

Unless I start using ray tracing I have no issue

edgy holly
#

i should upgrade my ram but ehhhhh im waiting till the day i upgrade my cpu (im still on am4)

mint umbra

I'm fine with my one stick of 16gb ram

mint umbra

I'll upgrade if It actually starts causing me issues

grizzled frost
mint umbra

You know what they say if it ain't broke don't fix it

mint umbra

So don't see reason to change it

grizzled frost
mint umbra
#

Doubt ram makes big difference

grizzled frost
#

10-15%

edgy holly
mint umbra
#

Most performance si from cpu and gpu

grizzled frost
#

when you have enough ram bandwidth, yes

stuck spruce
grizzled frost
#

which you don’t

mint umbra
#

Like when I switched from ddr4 to ddr5 I saw no difference

#

Maybe like 3 fps

grizzled frost
#

because dual channel ddr4 has the same bandwidth as single channel ddr5

mint umbra
#

I didn't use dual chanel ddr4

#

Ive always used one ram stick

grizzled frost
#

so you’re just always horrible at configuring pcs

stuck spruce
#

u had 1 stick of ram ddr4 too

ivory mountain
mint umbra
#

It's cheaper with one ram stick

stuck spruce
mint umbra
#

And ram isn't big difference in performance

edgy holly
mint umbra

So what's the point

random gyro
#

I love my assmann patchcords

mint umbra

I'll lose 10% performance if I can save some money

stuck spruce
random gyro
#

They’re actually called Assmann😭

mint umbra
#

Plus not like I ever ran my ram at full speed anyway

stuck spruce
mint umbra

I tried to change expo profile for ram once and it gave my system instability so Ive used stock ram speeds ever since

random gyro

You know you can manually tune ram?

(all prices in cad) looking at getting a new pc. I game and stream. My monitors are all 1080p @165 My options are 7700 + 5060ti (1599) 7700 + 9060xt (1399) 14700f + 5060ti (1799) 14700f + 5070 (1999) which pc should i get (9060xt is 16 gig version and 5060ti are all 8 gig versions)

If so, how do I do that in a asrock bios?

Hi,
I have a gigabyte x570 gaminx with a m.2ssd installed and a 2.5 sata ssd. I was wondering how i can figure out if i have another SATA Data Cable to install another sata ssd without opening my pc cause my case is kinda defected and its very difficult to get the rear panel back on

left dove
#

good thing I'm not a sir, so that means you like it

drifting urchin
#

i would 9/10 times perfer to use a PGA instead of a LGA

#

just drops in, and you can get good angles to look at the issue

left dove
#

lga has a higher pin density

#

therefore more things

drifting urchin

i think lga is too delicate

#

too easy to make a mistake on

left dove

hence why there's an elongated sewing needle in my toolkit I call the pin poker

drifting urchin

its like okay, think about this for an example its a good one i just thought of

honestly though if you men would just keep even an eigth of an inch of nail growth yall wouldn't be having these issues

yeah its like how master/slave got pretty much erased from anything technical

drifting urchin

master slave i guess i can easily accept and move on

grizzled frost

primary/secondary

or literally any other synonymous phrasing

grizzled frost

i never work with anything that ever used the master/slave terminology, so i didn't know what it had become

grizzled frost

lots of things used it outside of the tech space

For the past 1 week ive been using an external display that is powered by a 2pin smps (its a 30inch lg tv).today the tv gave a small glitch and i got worried if my gpu was tweaking.i later tried adjusting the cable and it seemed to solve it.then 10 mins later the resolution went from 1366x768(the display is this resolution) to 1360x768. then i tried cleaning the HDMI when i noticed a slight shock. I was worried about it and measured the voltage difference, IT TURNED OUT TO BE 80V AC??!?...the laptop is working fine as of now and i have disconnected the monitor.....should i be worried about any damage already caused and is it safe the use the monitor again? I LIVE IN INDIA BTW SO MAINS VOLTAGE IS 230V

grizzled frost
#

wtf

#

80v is such a random ass voltage

left dove
#

80v lol your power supply died fam

drifting urchin
#

laptop + monitor + kb/m is a person i will never fully understand

try as i might

grizzled frost

that isn't even like a normal transformer conversion

80v is the new 12v

or ig 59v

thorny saddle
errant fulcrum

should i still be using the monitor?

back when i played world of warcraft for example

steel umbra
drifting urchin
#

a few of the players played like that, i could never understand it instead of build a box pc

grizzled frost
left dove
grizzled frost
#

anytime there is any stray voltage like that, you should unplug it and promptly discontinue using it

left dove
#

and get it a new psu

grizzled frost
#

because it is actively a safety hazard in its present state

errant fulcrum
#

how to check for the damages done?

drifting urchin
#

its just that wow is such a highly intensive cpu game

grizzled frost
drifting urchin
#

so that part of it never made sense

grizzled frost
#

and do not skip the "wait a day" step, its so all the caps drain

errant fulcrum
grizzled frost
#

so you don't get 230v straight to your fingers

left dove
grizzled frost
errant fulcrum
#

okay

grizzled frost
errant fulcrum
#

one more thing my gpu is working but does that mean its not damaged by the hdmi floating votltage?

left dove
grizzled frost
#

if the port still works, you're fine

errant fulcrum
#

okay

#

im not gonna use hdmi ever again

grizzled frost
#

it's your monitor's power supply nuking itself

jovial swan
errant fulcrum
#

could that be the issure?

grizzled frost
errant fulcrum
#

uhh idk but most tvs dont have ground pins here

grizzled frost
#

wait do you mean no ground pin as in it's supposed to have one, but it broke off or something?

errant fulcrum
#

the smps itslef has only 2 pins

grizzled frost
#

i majorly hate power plug designs like that

#

but honestly should be fine

errant fulcrum
#

should be fine what, using it again or the current state of my laptop?

left dove
grizzled frost
#

laptop is fine, power plug is fine in the sense that it didn't cause the problem, but the monitor is not fine

errant fulcrum
errant fulcrum

id say monitor psu bad, monitor maybe

hearty olive

I had a thought this morning

I get that the 9995wx is a super sick halo chip and all

#

but what is it FOR? that isn’t better suited for a gpu workload or an epyc server?

left dove
#

HEDT

#

like a workstation, or a prosumer rig, content creators, etc.

hearty olive
#

yeah but i can’t think of many workloads that would actually benefit from that many threads

grizzled frost
#

then you're not who it's targetted to

hearty olive
#

content creation you’d be better off with like a 6000 blackwell and a 9950x i feel

#

that’s not a helpful answer

grizzled frost
#

depends on the kind of content

left dove
#

compression, parsing large sets of data, ram channels, hybrid cpu/gpu rendering..

#

virtual machines, code compiling..

hearty olive
left dove

fractals, any photorealism rendering
