Hi! Our family laptop that my mom uses browse the internet and watch some creators she follows on patreon etc is on it's last legs (the display just died so it has to be plugged into a monitor at all times now) and I'm looking at new laptops right now.

If you have a Dell Optiplex 3010 computer, you open the computer and check the label on the side of the power supply, or enter the computer's Service Tag number (found on a sticker on the side, top, or back of the computer case) into Dell's support website. Hopefully it's not a proprietary power supply / motherboard.

Also, if you do have a Dell Optiplex 3010, you shouldn't upgrade anything - you should replace the entire computer.

Gotcha, it's been frankensteined already. 😄 Given that it appears to use a standard power supply connector on the motherboard, you can likely upgrade the PSU no problem. Your existing power supply is in the lower left corner of the case in your photo. It's the thing with the "CIT" label on it.

It's not an optiplex in its natural habitat

yesn't, only the max-q variants are worse for sure, but the likes of the 3050, 3060 and 4060 for example, can match their desktop versions, and when it comes to the 3060m vs 3060, the 3060m has more cuda cores than the 3060 while using less power and less vram
