very weird take there. I find OpenCL, CUDA, and Vulkan to be perf-wise roughly equivalent 99% of the time, it's not a matter of CUDA being faster, it's a matter of CUDA being easy

the problem with OpenCL and Vulkan in the computation space is that Vulkan cannot access tensor units (yet) and OpenCL can't access RT or tensor units (and probably never)

the problem is mostly that AMD Navi is heavily optimized for deeply vectorized FPU tasks (like, say, video games) and requires good memory busses to operate, while CUDA is much better at arbitrary integer tasks and exerts a lot less register pressure

Nouveau is often faster than Nvidia's drivers on the cards that Nouveau properly supports, and the only reason it's slower on other cards is mostly because Nouveau is being reverse-engineered and Nvidia isn't helping them

ROCm is a pain to use, I'll admit, but I've used Vulkan and OpenCL on my RX6600 no problem... I have no idea what the current status is on Arc cards though, and tbh I'm not sure intel does either 😅

Guys i need help, ive been having these problems ever since i rma’d my mobo, i installed everything, even took everything apart and still nothing, i took it to a guy that works with pcs and he got it to work by putting a gpu that doesnt need external power and it ended up booting and posting to windows. The specs of the pc are:32gb ddr4 ram, i5 12400f and gtx 1080ti, ive also tried an amd radeon r9 380, the psu is 850w gold. The pc worked fine until i changed the thermal paste, when i changed it the mobo randomly died and i got a new one and then i put everything together and now when i turn it on it doesnt post at all or when it does post its just a black screen, everything is connected properly, the cpu and the ram work, i doubt both of my gpus died in a span of a couple weeks so i really dont know what could be the problem and its really confusing me so i hope somebody in here can help me out, the white light on the mobo that stays on is the vga light but its the same with my amd radeon r9 380.

i meant GTX960 had a newer encoder/decoder block, so 960 would do it with the dedicated hardware for H265 and 10-bit H264, while 970 and 980 had to do it hard way via CUDA cores

i think VRAM doesn't matter alot, as you can see 7900xtx is apparently a worse card than 9070xt which has 8GB less VRAM in comparison.
7900xtx 24GB VRAM
9070xt only has 16GB VRAM.

HOwever i dont recommend 5070 as it only has 12GB of VRAM, as you will def want to upgrade it in a few years. (its not even enough for the current triple A titles)

for most people 32GB of DDR4 is more than enough.

50 series isn't a huge upgrade to the 40 series. Its more like an incremental upgrade for its AI tops. The only new feature it unlocks is FP4 supports for MFG.
