It could have been a broken driver update months ago, which is only now causing corruption. Or could be a SSD firmware issue, which again takes months/years to show up.

I remember how there was an issue with Crucial m4 drives, where it took 9000 hours for SMART firmware error to cause the drive not to be accessible at all.

Or the 840 and 840 EVO had the degradation issue.

These days, both of those would be blamed on random Windows update which just happened at that time

got a question about a dell precision 5550. the seller says the "screen" sometimes works and this is caused by a cmos issue. i dont think its the screen but the actaul laptop. he says when starting it may take more than 1 press of the power to bring it on. could this be becuase the cmos batt is dying so cant boot out of sleep and has to do a full startup?? or what other issues could this be. thanks

I only ever recommend xmp/expo 1 to most people who aren't trying to do spec benches anyhow though so no biggie and those people I dont have to say anything to cause they know theyre in for hours of suffering/fun
