A month or so back i bent the pins on my motherboard, and the computer has acted funny, sometimes freezing, or doing weird stuff, but has been able to do any task i throw at it, despite it being able to do it, it brings problems when it freezes or just stutters, ill show you the bent pins in questions. Im deploying a Win32 app in intune, using powershell to install and copy extra files

Now when Intune runs the powershell script, it runs it as SYSTEM

I need to find a way to set an environment variable as the current logged in user, not as SYSTEM

So I did try creating a task in Task Scheduler to do it, but the Task in Task Scheduler again runs as SYSTEM (because the user that created that task was SYSTEM through the Powershell script). And I cant do a variable to do logged in user, because it will think the logged in user is SYSTEM

so like, trying to think of a way around this to be able to create the task in Task Scheduler as the logged in user when the overall Powershell script is running as SYSTEM

But THANK GOD. I had an idea and it worked. I can set the "lite" edition as a machine level variable, so its not user specific. Then, I can use the end user "app"/script to set "pro" edition in the user level variable (which as they are running as themselves and not through intune, it works)

and, thankfully, when the variable is in Machine Wide and User, it reads the User variable first to set the license level

so I found my solution thankfully! It very well could have looked at the System variable first, so grateful that wasnt the case. I will set the Lite variable to the system level, and then set Pro to user variable which users do on their own

Fair enough solution. I was seeing how easy it would be to set a user variable from a SYSTEM PowerShell window. It's not a permissions thing, since SYSTEM has access to, well, the whole system, but you would indeed need to find a way to set the environment variable running in the User's context.
