Technically, I could still be using my old i7-4790K + DDR3 system right now if I was okay running Windows 10 beyond its End of Life date and didn't feel the need to upgrade to newer hardware. My personal rule with memory generations is that they generally have ~10-15 years of useful life, depending on your needs.
