fair
Oh wow, must suck then. 🤷♂️
Seriously, you need to understand how to rate your sources. Are these people competent users? Do they need to come to a place like this (or reddit) when they crash or can they effectively troubleshoot on their own?
Finna ruin my whole workflow
I haven't rebooted my android in like 6 months now
Have they done their due diligence so they can rightfully put all the blame entirely on the OS, not the myriad of 3rd party software and hardware at place in a custom PC?
hmm i get it. ill upgrade to 24h2 ig
Yeah that matches my google reverse image search
For the wifi, not LAN
3 x RJ-45 10/100M LAN port
android becoming a closed garden is the greatest tragedy
What we gonna use now 😭
If you're wired, you're limited to 100mb
Wth, that is ass
I bought a cheap 970 and when I turned the system on it said "Please power down and connect the pcie power cavles for this gpu" even tho the two 6+2 cables were plugged in (they're daisy chained), what can I do? I tried with 3 diff psus
That's if the phone is locked though
25€ lol
But with all certainty it could very well become just every three days
Still, no control at all
google pixel, root friendly, install a custom android or even a arm64 linux distro on it
I talked to my Verizon installer. They're prepping for up to 10Gb WAN options but we're still a few years out. The router they give you now theoretically supports it.
This is so ass 😭
ye router has 100mbps ports sad
I mean it would have to be under android like 17 if you wanted to avoid the feature
So for verizion, how does the Fiber come in?
ye and irony is that i have overkill pc with it
Ouch
I prefer to always use my equipment
Before a phone is switched on and unlocked, certain data stored within is fully encrypted and harder to access without the user’s passcode. This is known as the “Before First Unlock” state. Once unlocked, on the other hand, some data gets decrypted and can potentially be accessed by bruteforcing the passcode or taking advantage of security flaws, which is generally how law enforcement forensic devices work. This state is known as “After First Unlock.”
like 4070 and 7700x with 25€ router
So my phone is becoming less repairable and unrecoverable if the screen gets damaged and I don't want to replace
I wouldn't call that an over kill pc, just a nice one
But I'm pretty sure it's already a feature
Fiber from the street to an ONT in your premises. That handles converting to copper Ethernet to your router. You can use whichever one you want. (assuming you're not using set top boxes for TV).
ye but i have 25€ router
Lol
Nope we dont have TV, but do they provide the ONT or can i source it myself?
My school Chromebook xD
Build a router
almost 2000€ pc and 25€ router perfect
with all stuff my setup probably is like 2,5k i think and 25€ router
i will now flex my combo evrywhere
They provide, I don't believe you can source your own. The black box here. Ignore that its just kinda shoved inside the OLD fios ONT enclosure. Most of that wiring mess i'm not using, just whats going to and from the black box.
Make your own router 🙂
cant afford that
It does not gotta be super powerful
come to think of it, I dunno why that Coax is hooked up to it
But fair
Its doing nothing but looking busy
Ah, easy solution!! Don't be poor!! /s
Oh ok intresting, cant wait for fiber. My network is already 2.5 Gb except for my UAP
Should I aim for more RAM or more Storage in a laptop for software dev?
What do you have rn?
dont dare say me to get j-word
Yeah I just recently did that, not that it made a difference for me. Little 2.5Gb switches are pretty cheap at this point.
In my current laptop (M1 Air), 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD
Anyone else ever do the ganzfield effect?
Why not both?
You cannot upgrade anything from apple
You gotta buy a new computer
But I am getting a new M4 Air
Yeah, when Ubiquti released those cheap small 2.5 Gb switches, i grabbed two as my NAS and PC is 2.5 Gb
Nice
Why not get a pc or normal laptop? If you need more resources that won't cost you 10x the price of something so cheap
Do you currently need more storage? Like is that an issue? If it isn't, go RAM. If it's this or that you really need to look at your current situation, is either a problem?
@upper wave
Both but prioritise ram. You can always use external storage or cloud storage to fix storage issues with a Mac.
Because I am fully in the Apple Ecosystem and don’t want to leave it with my laptop, I also use iCloud
For software development the only answer is ram. 8 gigs is limiting to say the least nowadays
You're paying so much for so little
Id assume the white cable on the far right is the Fiber but what is the green on on the left?
Ok, well it is my money
The M4 MacBook airs are great computers, especially for Devs....
Storage is so easy to get around also, just figured he had a reason to prioritize local storage.
Yes but it's so damn expensive for no reason
Earth
thick solid core copper
Oh ok
Buy the best with every available add-on then?
playing Genshin Impact
+60 Social Credit
Not for no reason. Great build quality, great OS, great chips with the new apple silicon stuff. They're premium computers and they work for the people who like them.
I only use Linux outside of gaming on my desktop and I have no issues with macs
I disagree with "great os"
That's personal preference. He obviously likes it.
can I play Genshin Impact on Linux?
Ya
Social credit system doesn't exist in china btw.
Asks whether to spend on RAM or Storage. Then pulls the money flex. Go both if cost isn't an issue.
without a compatibility layer?
I like macOS, I don’t get along with windows
natively
No idea, probably not, why does it matter nowadays with proton anyway.
I agree, but only for base models. The price to get more is stupid
It is an issue, I can only upgrade one or the other
proton what?
It's apple, if you're buying it you've accepted the price point already.
Sounds like apple problems.
So I either bump up to 24GB RAM or 1TB of Storage
The save up and get both bc base specs are ass
Get the 24 gigs of ram and use iCloud. No brainer
24 gigs of ram and 1tb of storage is so cheap yet apple makes you spend 1k more
But for Code, cloud storage isn’t the best option
how is it better than wine? or does it just use wine
200 bucks for 8gbs more ram is insane, there's genuinely no justification
Get ram and build a nas
Then get physical external storage
I agree, its so ass
Ya, so is nearly 2000 for a phone. But here we are.
my monitor has a blue light panel built in, is that why im stil getting slight yellow tint?
If you're asking about Linux and you're not aware what proton is then I'm not interested in educating you.
Just Google it.
Who the fuck is paying 2k for it?
That's a crazy price
Sorry, almost 1500. I converted RMB wrong in my head
1500 is still criminal lmao
My point is that apple stuff has always come at a premium
I got my s24 ultra for like 800
That's not an iPhone
IPhone is over priced
On Apple's website the 16 pro max is only 1k
Ding ding ding
Apple is over priced
There's different models I imagine
I have a pixel 9 pro
S23 for free*** ... Wonder how many actual asterisks there are. They're getting their money one way or another lol.
But my wife uses all apple stuff, I can see the appeal.
I hate apple bc it's over priced shit. They os is not user friendly, they under spec their shit, their cpus are great but you gotta spend a fortune to get an air cooler for it
Yeah, 16, 16 pro, 16 pro max
I don't see how ppl like apple
Bandwagon
-
It might be overpriced but it's not shit
-
Their OS is beloved by techies and non techies alike
-
Ya maybe
To be fair, M4 is a powerhouse of a chip. But again, the entire ecosystem lockdown sucks. I don't understand how people let themselves get locked down into it because once they are in, they are stuck.
Some people like the ecosystem, have the money and enjoy the features. Macs are pretty beloved by creative professionals and some software Devs.
You just have a weird hate boner for apple
Its such an ass approach, yes it's good for developers and professional work, but the way Apple works, they fuck you over with price then trap you in their ecosystem
No, its a pretty logical hate.
This is coming from a guy who's used Linux for the last two years outside of dual booting for gaming. I have no idea where the hatred comes from for apple stuff, you don't have to buy it and the people that do seem to enjoy it.
Can someone checkout #1362491553536278689 , it sounds like a PSU to me but I'm not entirely sure
It's the premium that you pay to own an apple product
I appreciate the apply silicon advancements ans their long term support but other than that, apple sucks in general
Pay more for less
Coming from an audiophile who uses Audeze LCD2 everyday and is an android only user. These be very good.
What are they
They're fine, I like my airpods pros
The noise cancelling is very good
i mean i use an iphone aw and airpods but i don't use a mac or really anything else from apple
it's also not like other companies don't have ecosystems
Branching back to this channel. I'm just gonna say that if I am paying $500+ for a motherboard, it better come with a damn debugging LED. I don't know when it changed, but most boards do not have them anymore.
It's like a $2 part to slap one on a board.
Isn’t ultra enough
what a jerk, you represent the average Linux enthusiast very well
what do you mean an air cooler?
like the mbp?
i don't see how passive cooling is a major issue for most people buying the mba
Definitely proof that if you slap enough adjectives on to a product, someone will definitely buy it.
Hello there
hello, edge is better than Firefox or Chrome, bye
Ok, if that’s your opinion, sure
The laptop gets quite hot for the ones with passive cooling
that's in a sustained workload, under normal use it doesn't get hot
So edgy.
I'm not a search engine. I come here to argue and talk about tech to unwind and see what other people think about things.
Go fuck yourself 🙂
I'm not gonna hate on ppl who buys apple or whatever, but I'm gonna hate on apple lmao
you have to think about who's buying the mba
most people buying that laptop aren't running fcp and/or heavier apps, it's mainly for light use like web browsing, office 365 and such
Fair
That's fair
Ppl have opinions, but i will take about mine, not as a fight, but just talking
@elder quarry .
@elder quarry
E is watching secret shopper
No you're not
I don't see arguing as a fight. It's just the best way to see what someone thinks
Arguments can be constructive
Yeah
hold on a minute this is good value for a 5090 laptop
Price will go up when you configure it
ahoy lads
im lowk scared of openin my laptop bc i expect there to be more dust than air ngl
is anyone here how swappable mechanical keyboard savy??
i have never heard of this brand but that's not a bad price
i expect the insides of my laptop to look like this ngl
if it's a tongfang/clevo rebrand then eh
cleaned it 3 years ago so yuh
this is with 64gb ram, 5tb storage
whaat how
its a 5090 laptop
did they cheap out on the cpu?
not even a bad price yknow for a 5090 laptop
if it got a 5090, 64gb ddr5 (probably) and 5tb
Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
anyone knows how i can change my settings for a monitor that's mounted vertically so everything is not so stretched down?
i got a keyboard, but the only thing that bothers me about it is the number keys (the ones above the letters), are there any spare lower keycaps that i could buy??
dang that isnt horrible
exact same cpu that the scar 18 uses
ngl it sounds a bit to good to be true
the scar 18 has a 240hz 1440p but 16:10 screen, the pinnacle also has an 18 inch screen, but 4k 200hz
It’s plastic fantastic ODM mush
It’s going to be thermally constricted and will probably feel like a children’s toy
or maybe, heres a consideration, it doesn't cost businesses fucking 5 thousand pounds to make a laptop
ik these mfs have huuuuuuuge unit profits on ts
or that is gonna die RIGHT after the warrancy ends
if it even has one
bro what the actual fuck is this graph, my 7900xtx must be through the roof then
they got new stuff going with the ancient time
and as space move forward the computers move forward
the computers even talking now.
ya all got any websites to get comparision between gpu's like that? (asking cuz i wanna compare some gpu's that i might use if ill build a pc)
no cause this graph is fake
the series number
no i mean what is the graph measuring
it's a joke because nvidia said like 5060 is 50x more powerful than the 1060 or something
it measures the number 1080 to 5060
funny
💔 NVidia knows they'll get bodied in a 4060 to 5060 performance test so they're pulling out the literal final generation of GTX series
Best we can do is this for relative performance rankings. Note: this was recently revamped when the newest cards were added and they're still in the process of re-testing all older generations. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
k, ty
Scroll down for graphs by resolution. Keep scrolling for RT specific graphs by resolution.
idk if alot of people know about roblox but my ssd is full and i want to update on my hdd how do i do that
Wouldn't do that if you paid me over a 9070xt.
Power hungry, hot, no FSR4.. no thanks.
oh ye i forgot those cards exist
Just get a 9070xt...
forgor those exist
man, AMD not having a high end this gen is pretty painful. like, yeah, they're affordable. and that's good. but as an enthusiast, I wanna see neck and neck halo tier cards and a highly competitive landscape that bring down the high end pricing.
and Intel is really only there for ultra budget gamers tbh
yeah... that's my point
More than i paid for my truck
there's 0 competition in the high end so you get crazy prices
AMD made a good card that's relatively affordable and created actual competition in the mid tier gaming market.
They did good tbh.
?
what does tier even mean now?
Nothing
5090/4090 highend everythin gelse is just mid tier and low tier?
they did! I got a 6950xt back in the day, and I'm really happy with it. it replaced my aging 980. but in a gen or two I don't wanna return to the high end and think "crap, Nvidia is the only game in town here and the supply is so limited I'm gonna have to spend used car money if I want one"
Should probably understand why its full, and of what. WizTree.
as an 3050 rtx user i feel like i need to upgrade whole build atp
i tried moving valorant but its immposible
"back in the day"
That was barely 4 years ago 💀
Actually the 6950XT was like 3 years ago
early pandemic feels like a different era tbh
time dilation got me good
We'll see what happens.
So clear out the crap that's probably sucking up space that you don't need first. If you're not sure what or where, run Disk Cleanup at least (and check all the boxes in System Files mode) then use WizTree to get a visual on what is where.
That's not what I said at all.
ik but its show no size
I just add another hard drive every time one fills up
(I have 5 1tb ssds in my pc and i need help)
alr worked
Drives shouldn't just fill up mysteriously. As the user of the machine, you should know exactly what is on the drive.
installed it on hdd and uninstalled the ssd
The micro sd card for my steam deck is the most ove ever spent on storage
Yea i just keep packing shit into my pc
I need to factory reset it tbh
How’s the quality on the zotac solid 5070ti?
So im trying to share a folder with a new laptop and im asked for login credentials for this, the only user i have on the machine is the user made when i set up with my microsoft account so what would the username be ? ive tried the full name on the account and ive tried the folder name in users directory along with my MS account password but this does not work...
May I introduce Intel® Arc™ Celestial
so does a nvme ssd need a cooling block or is it unnecessary? I got a sn580
lol, good luck. I've spent no joke years on and off trying to work out local file sharing with MS accounts. Trust me, not happening. Your only option is the workaround. https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-11/295943/tip-the-windows-file-share-workaround
tl;dr, create the same local account on both machines, share the directory, give "your" account full permissions. When asked to connect, use the dummy account credentials you made.
Otherwise...
and he's not wrong
local traditional folder/file sharing is just broken when using MS accounts for login
will it actually be high end though?
they're in the budget and ultra budget range rn
Probably closer to 4070, maybe?
based on what?
B770 might be 4070 if they do that
Guessing, really
No logic in keeping it lower end performance
do you guys use windows auto HDR?
fair enough
My own guess is that it'll be B770; 4070
No, but I have. THere are better inverse tonemapping options depending on the game being played.
I just think they've got a REALLY big mountain to climb
C570/580: 4070S/Ti:Ti S
and I doubt it'll happen by next gen tbh
C750/770, maybe 4080
didn't b770 get axed for being too much die size for what they could sell them for?
I'd think B770
@hallow jasper so i took the easy option and turned off passwords for file shareing but now i get an errer saying the system can not be found
What?
do you find that games look noticably worse with it off? im just annoyed that every time i tab out of a game that has been auto hdr boosted, my monitor turns off and on and my desktop is at lower brightness
Like I said, its not happening.
yeah, iirc they had scaling issues or something. the A series cards were sold at a loss because the die size was huge but the performance was just barely better than an iGPU
Friends don't let friends log in using MS accounts. Shit is pretty fundamentally borked.
its saying the network path is not found now
is this still an issue with MS account ?
B770 isn't coming
Hey dumb question how much of the pcb on a modern mid-high end gpu is actually populated? Could a parts manufacturer theoretically skeletonize it for better airflow?
I wanna like Intel's stuff and I'd totally recommend a battlemage card to a friend who's wanting a PC for under like... 700ish? but they're just not in the mid or high end rn
But it was targeting 4070 performance
Nvidia already did this
it's absurdly dense
Can't help you with the second part but HDR isn't a quick turn it on and everything is perfect kinda thing. First, you need a good display actually capable of producing HDR. You're spending $600+ minimum for something MiniLED or OLED. Then it needs to be calibrated using the official tool.
I run windows in HDR fulltime, I never turn it off. HDR has become a bit of an obsession with video and gaming for me for the past few years.
What, why?
And if there is a celestial dGPU we have no idea what performance tier(s) they will be targeting
Die thing?
Honestly just wish someone other than a scalper would sell me a large-die gpu at this point. Hell, a pre-scalped edition with commemorative "We Have You Over a Barrel" plaque straight from nvidia would sell and we all know it.
the second part isnt normal behaviour?
I'll be honest it's really too late now
I assume most of it is just data lanes since they need to be far away from ground planes to reduce noise?
every square mm of the card is used here
Thats pretty damn dense
yeah
and they do blowthrough on both sides of the PCB
Hopefully B580 development was enough for Intel to learn what other changes need to be put into Xe3
How many layers is that? 16?
so it's about as dense as they can make it... that's why the 5090 is 2 slots at 600w
idk, I doubt that tbh...
Celestial could probably make or break their own space in the market
I'd hope the C570/80 & C750/770 work
Intel NEEDS to fix their Re-Bar & overhead problems though
I mean you want at least a full layer between data lanes and ground layers iirc from my very limited asic design knowledge
No
The way things are going, don't expect 7 series parts from intel probably.
I don't think I expect a big GPU from Intel next generation
c580 will probably do well if they can get availability for a reasonable price
The midsize die seems more appropriate for them to Target at this time
it's a 14 layer PCB
Sub-500 market is basically anyones game with both amd and nvidia unable to even sell their $400 cards under 500.
Makes sense, it doesnt do any power processing on the card right? No step down/up converting?
I mean it would have to, no? the power supply isn't doing all of that.
That entire top and right edge and some of the bottom is all power processing
and you're also combining power from PCIe and from the 12v high power connector
cost aside, the sheer engineering of the 5090 FE blew my mind when I first saw it... and still does
ya know each fin on the heat sink has a slightly different curvature for airflow optimization?
that's a lot of tool and die work
Makes sense, probably just resistor power dividers then, with smoothing caps and lowpass filters for noise
I mean the VRMs are all on the board too
Unfortunately Intel isn't ordering tons of wafers for B580
Although I can't necessarily blame them. I'm sure alchemist was a real headache trying to move inventory, and if I was an Intel partner, I would have been quite conservative on battlemage production numbers
VRMs and inductors mostly. Couldn't have coil whine without em, and those bastards whine hard.
Yeah but i would assume all the processing is done on the same power level, to an extent
the back is just filled with caps
and connectors and shit
I was gonna say, i just didnt see a single coil on there, until i saw the suspiciously square blocks that said 85N lmao
Is the Ryzen 8000 series any good?
meh
Its definitely one of the series of cpu of all time
Yea, not too surprising
7000 series better?
it was better for it's time
you need to be specific though, what's your budget, what are you to do with this?
Depends what model and how much youre spending,
Low setting 1440p
laptop?
@hallow jasper so i managed to get it working, but what a pain in the ass that was
PC
so desktop?
Pretty much
a laptop and a desktop can both be a PC
8000 series wasn't even made for desktop
No?
yes
F5ing the day away for a gpu definitely isn't the most exciting way to pass the time.
Also i hate to say it but who’s idea was it to have 80 bajillion tiny caps, is it just for decoupling?
Legit thought the 8500G was a desktop cpu
No don't touch it unless you won't be using a GPU
this has been pretty standard on GPUs for as long as I've been in the space, and it only gets more nuts... look at the back of any high end AIB card, they all look like a city of tiny caps
Does it have personal graphics built in?
well, it was... but that was a really limited niche run... it is literally a modified mobile processor
I mean most are clearly for the vrms, so i assume its just to protect them, there is no way in hell those tiny caps are doing literally anything for signal smoothing
The G ones have a stronger iGPU inside yes
But all AM5 has iGPUs (except 7500f and 7400f)
The GE?
Yea, that was an interesting surprise comming from am4.
you always see the highest density of them on the back of the core
Presumably just so they blow up rather than the core, those have to be in the picofahrads
Guess I’ll check out the 9000 series
Wonder if anyone has one of them mapped out in kicad or smth
maybe, idk. I'm not an electrical engineer. just a tech.
Would be interesting to look at
but look at the back of this card... huge density of tiny caps and a few big caps behind the core
this is pretty standard these days on mid / high end
7000 series and 9000 series are pretty similar tbh. if you're doing gaming, get an x3d chip
something like a 7800x3d or a 9800x3d is kinda your ideal, but you can step down a rung or two if it's not in the budget
7000 series and 9000 series perform pretty similarly though, so I'd focus more on the actual class of chip than the gen
Yea, 7800x3d can be had for what, $400ish lately?
is it really that much still?
Throwback to the microcenter 7800x3d mobo 32gb ram bundle for $450
80ish cheaper than the current flagship, but yea
100% for decoupling, especially the small ones, if theyre ceramic they might just be for bypass, the bigger ones are probably there to help with lower frequency stabilisation, maybe power filtering/transient response/ maybe even act as a localized energy reservoir though i highly doubt it
Still astounded WA doesn't have a single microcenter yet
The entire PNW is abandoned
woah... that kinda smarts. I'm surprised it hasn't fallen more
usually last gen hardware is a pretty good deal
alright
Yea, getting a GPU in the PNW is a bloody nightmare.
Although i absolutely despise that pcie lane setup
I ordered a b580 5 minutes after release from Newegg lol
But brick and mortar here is hell for gpus
I had to drive nearly 5 hours each way to get to a micro center... all dair affair. I'm in a huge deadzone for tech and it sucks. if you can't find it online I'm SOL
To be fair, those have had pretty good avaliability since release
Best buy is pretty much my only option in Portland
Is there like a tier list for model of gpus for h to w 5070ti?
Have they? The subreddit is constantly complaining about no stock or in stock at $400
ya know these are done by teams of professionals, I'm assuming they're not complete idiots... but then again, I don't know enough about this myself.
I mean its not MSRP, but its also not +100% or more that were seeing on some cards
the best buys in my area don't even sell components anywhere. you would not believe what I had to do to pick up thermal pads a while back.
same for GPUs
same
Yeah but the person who designed that pcie lane layout should really reconsider, like i get minimum impedance values intended but those have to be hand drawn
like what is even the point of an electronics store if you can only buy TVs and washing machines?
bustbuy has just become lowes without the lumber
Only a matter of time before lowes sells TVs tbh.
costco*
Uhhh you could build a full PC (*I haven't looked at a best buy GPU section since December so I assume that's currently empty but for the sake of discussion let's assume they have a GPU in stock) at the best buys near me. You would be pretty limited in selections, but you can do it.
BB is alright for peripherals and monitors and accessories
They sell prebuilts
True, nothing super high end at least at either of my local ones tho
I think I once saw a 4080
they have nothing here. no motherboards, no ram, no power supplies, no cases
they have prebuilts for sure
thinking of getting a thinkpad to run linux for college, how do i find a good one. im fine with refurbished and used. on either amazon or ebay, how do i find good price/perf deals? my max budget is 200 but preferably lower
Oddly the local BB here has cases and accessories but not much else
I bought a lot from best buy in the pandemic but I hardly shop there anymore
Although since it's brick and mortar returns are pretty easy
Ended up sourcing a g9 oled from them a while back, sadly ended up returned for being a flakey POS.
I legit got an X220T for scrap metal pricing, got coreboot working on it and then used parabola ontop of that... If you don't need to do CAD or something, it's a fantastically good work machine even though it's ancient technology
X220Ts are a bit rare though, X220 is the same thing without the pen and tablet functionality
Yea, hard to beat brick for stuff where a return is a real risk/issue. Large stuff especially.
mostly gonna be doing vsc and cad/blender, is there a generation or min spec that would work best for that?
they had loads of interesting stuff when I was in new york a while back.
but not in the best buys around me
Amazon is typically fine since I can take it to a whole foods nearby, however a lot of large/electronic items they want to ship back via UPS which means I'm waiting 4-6 weeks for a refund
you'd probably want something as current as you can get then
and as high spec as possible.
alr ill look around
thanks\
oh, one other thing
you're gonna want as much vram as you can get
Between how terrible their website is for actually buying things and how bad they are with ship dates anymore, theyre a vendor of last resort for me as of late. Still ended up buying mobo and ram from them on my latest build.
and a decent amount of dram too
alright, thanks
Amazon ship dates are typically fine for me
Although I live in a city so YMMV
Unfortunately Amazon is a good mix of selection, shipping, and confidence in returns
Theyve felt verymuch like a crapshoot for me and their distribution center is literally across the bloody street, like literally look out the window and see the amazon logo.
Newegg always has me a little cautious cause returning might be a pain
And their shipping isn't as fast
That last part is definetly true, dealing with UPS is pretty easy when you have a buisness account with them already though.
I think at this point I'm just procrastinating on buying a cpu cooler and storage because I know I'll just be waiting on the GPU a month from now anyways.
Having a business account with UPS is certainly an exception to the typical user experience lol
$180 for a noctua on amazon is just absurd though
CPU cooler market is honestly great rn. I'd go ahead and grab that at the very least.
Is anyone able to confirm, if I buy "4000D/4000D Airflow 120mm 3-pin Fan, Black, 1200 RPM" from Amazon do these include a fan hub from corsair too? I just got off support and they said the fan hub is included (if I'm not misunderstanding what they said)
Doesn't look like its a good market for high end air coolers currently, most everything seems to be over MSRP
the good news is you can get something NEARLY as good as the best for like $30
if you want a noctua or something you're gonna be dying
Google the case on corsairs website and it will show all included hardware
but that's just how they are. you pay a huge premium for the best with great service and quality and upgradeability. I usually choose to go for them despite the price tag because you can literally get modern hardware mounting for coolers over 20 years old from them, FOR FREE... but if you're more cost concious in the short term, yeah get a dual tower $30ish cooler and call it a day. they'll do nearly as well
depends what you mean. Corsair hub, no. RGB hub? yes.
nope
30 years ago it made sense.
i heard they're good for basic taks
budget, usecase, formfactor. shoot
I mean... TECHNICALLY? I wouldn't unless it's literally your only option
Yea, $180 is a bit absurd though. Last D15 was like $89
it doesnt seem to come with even that
like as cheap as physically possible, basic internet stuff, pc
oooohoohoo I finished the scripts \O/
last d15 crept up over time... you're forgetting how cheap crap was like 12 years ago when it came out. inflation sucks
if it runs office ill use it
I love nice simple clean cli
well then, yes.
it's the cheapest thing on the market
get one of those used office pcs then
how much are they
it is going to suck though... like a LOT
like an optiplex?
you can literally get these for free
i mean i was just gonna get a c2q but i heard they're ass
here's what I'd recommend. go to a free geek or something like it.
you're gonna get something infinitely better than a pentium or a core 2
what country, in usa even the 4core ones r like $60
in a pinch u can put in a low power gpu and its already ok at gaming
for normal pc browser use its more than enough
this is all ancient technology
like I wasn't even alive when core 2 came out
I'm old enough to drink in the U.S. won't give my exact age
all i was gonna run was server 2012 datacenter so
but core 2 is ancient
I'm really confused what your usecase is tbh... what are you trying to do with this machine?
then ur like 4 yrs older than when core 2 came out
internet and basic games
was it not like 2001 or something?
can get a Dell OptiPlex 3060 with i5 8400 for $80 on eBay
what are you using to write to us on right now?
i have a celeron 4gb thing but it struggles on games
sigh Overspent on the PSU like $200 and getting annoyed at air coolers $30 over MSRP.... yep. Maybe been F5ing too much today.
why do you wanna run server 2012 datacenter on such low spec hardware?
at least overspending psu has benefit
air coolers r hunks of metal at the limit of their design capability with no more improvements possible other than cost
why do you wanna use windows server 2012 to play video games?
like I have so many questions 😅
that too
i don’t know how good this is
oh my god
Its harder to even play games on windows server builds, Ive tried it myself
Lots of issues
what country are you from?
i wasn’t sure, i got told it’s a good operating system for basic internet stuff
this is literally older than most of the people in this chatroom...
probably
Why a server build though, because its more light weight OS? If so just go with win10 enterprise ltsc or something like that
england
oh okay
is that better than what i’ve got?
how low budget are you
u can get complete good systems for <100 in the uk
let me look around a bit. I can probably find you something that can run a modern OS for next to nothing
nowhere in my area has like those waste electronic places
sadly
chat my vm MIGHT not be very happy
sold listings of 4c8t i7 pcs in uk
I just got a Dell Latitude E7440 running Win 11 today, it has a i7-4600U running Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC and it works just fine because its not bloated
that looks good
i’ll try get one ty!
bids but some1 got lucky ig
is 8gb ram good
I was surprised to find out that the E7440 even came with an SSD ngl
Its a 2014 laptop
eh if you dont want to game much with it yeah its alright for general stuff
i have 2gb rn so i wasn’t sure on what to upgrade to
how the hell do you have a computer that works with 2gb of ram in it in 2025 bro 😭
I'd say you have a better chance at finding nicer hardware just looking for eBay deals
i got it passed down
Ive got nothing against your build btw, but im saying I think $50 could get you something much better
2gb of ram cant even run windows 8.1 let alone 10 or 11, or chrome
It can run 11 :P
i mean i found a project online that let me run chrome
well yes if you debloat the shit out of it yes
Hey man, you gotta do what you gotta do
can add a decent no external power gpu and its an ok pc alr
But it will take 10 seconds for the first windows animation to load during install on that thing
i checked the list and the only reason i upgraded was because the new windows dosent work on my cpu
it refused to boot
You can get around that with rufus
i tried
well yeah, ive got a bloated as shit vm running right now that i need to get working smoothly haha, software raid hdds are not very fun with windows 10
On what hardware tho
ryzen 5 4600g (8 vcores, not sure why, i allocated 4 🤷 )
8gb ddr4 3200
2x 1tb laptop hdds (random, mirrored)
host os: truenas scale (latest)
guest: windows 10 (latest)
its currently shitting itself
what is that one amazing debloater that ltt recommended? forgot the name of it
I wouldnt use debloater software, just install enterprise versions of windows
chris titus tools?
thats the one
i did use it once
I wanna get a laser printer, they’re soooo fast
way past that point
wouldve saved a lot of time ngl
i have one and love it, worth it
But I made the mistake of installing the evaluation version on accident
You cant upgrade to non evaluation on Win11 IoT Ent LTSC at least (unless you have a key)
does anyone know how to set a usb to fixed attribute instead of removable?
ive got pro installed, thats the most enterprise one i could get
wouldnt let me install windows 11 because of no tpm on the hypervisor
rufus
not flashing a usb for it
windows 11 is dumb full stop
I think you could flash a virtual USB drive
no
i can probablyt do it with ntlite
no to what, vUSB?
my cat likes michael jackson lmao
i would first check what kind of speeds youre paying for
then check the max speed your router and nic in your device can do
i think the problem is that one pc cant connect to it and get full speeds, but another pc can
I hope you all have a good day ❤️ 🐛
i agree with checking max speed of the NIC and router, also cables
oh, I didnt see the last part, it could be NIC then
If the newer PC works fine and the older ones dont
if youve got a usb to ethernet/wifi adapter grab it and give it a shot
huh
ah, how new is the new pc and how old is the old pc?
and is the new pc a laptop or desktop
Way better then my skills
so fairly close to eachother, not sure what the problem could be
are you using the same ethernet cable?
All I got
she says hi back
what is your normal speed over wifi?
as in like on a different device
i dont really see much of a problem then, it should be fine
look what my cat did
Little fangsss
Nomsssss it just wanted smol nibble
Gib snack or be the snack you decideee
🐈⬛
but that screenshot is from said pc?
so your normal speed is around 31mbps down and 11mbps up, correct?
and that is what you are getting on your new pc
sooo whats the problem?
then the only solution is either moving your router, getting a larger wifi antenna, or going wired (which isnt working for you?)
that could be it, lol
well thats your solution, upgrade/move the router, sorry but theres no other solution really
Brother I created a mirrored parition on windows and its formating for more than an hour
how big is the drive? hdd or ssd?
If plugged into ethernet isn't much faster I'd likely agree
Depending what your old pc gets if it's similar
my ethernet connection is slow as balls compared to wifi, but my ethernet gets me gigabit to my nas so ive cut my losses
Happens myte be time to check into new providers or upgrading the plan perhaps
my isp is so bad, 500mbps down but 70mbps up
Makes sense it be like that sometimes I don't miss living the country with the old 15mbps
1 TB hdd
if you didnt check quick format, thatll take about 1h30m in my experience
oh bruh
I thought it wouldn't format at all
mirrors will always format
I couldnt figured out how to set up a raidz1 sadly
storage spaces wouldn't let me use 3 drives because the hdds are flagged as "CanPool" false
never used windows raid before
was looking into using WSL but that seemed like it wouldnt work well with network drive
yeah sadly I kinda need this server to run windows
ill make this work
problem is I planned to use 3 HDDs raid, but now since I am using only 2 mirrors
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dTdtsp - is this fine?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, Radeon RX 9070 XT
those hdds are way too hot
pls change the ssd
like hot enough to not be able to hold onto it
also why so small
this is not normal I assume.......
the ssd is fine because its not the one im gtting but idk which one im getting just something idrc but still
why so what?
eh it depends, its not very good for them so point a fan at them if you can
yeah ill do that
well you only have so many m.2 pcie slots
I have a spare fan anyways
ah thats because i just cant afford a 1tb one rn lol
eh
you are not making a budget built
cz im alr 200 over budget
o ffs
i had to cut a lot of parts because of albanian pricing
also AGAIN 6000MT ram
keep an eye out for a 1tb p3 plus on amazon, brought one on half price on amazon, 500gb is not enough anymore
well you can set it to 6000MT in bios but eh
good luck if you own a p3
i CANT 💔
went from p2 to p3 plus
too bad i use password authentication 😉
isthe mobo fine?
well going to need to replace is soon enough
i have the processor mobo ssd caes and everything BUT the gpu
tbh maybe too fine
already bought?
no but i will
well yeah that is how a shopping list works
better than my old samsung 225gb ssd with 11 years of running hours
yeah but still, i have all the parts in shop
no i didnt
my nas has 2 3tb drives manufactured in 2012 and on for 9.5 years 🤑
5 power cycles when i got them lmao
but did i really have a choice?
hey tc1 need some advice. i've got a thinkpad x1 carbon that I'd like to try and repair. It's not powering on and the battery wasn't the problem after some testing. The motherboard doesn't seem to be able to take any power anymore. I no pretty much nothing about how motherboards work, but would there be something I could use to determine the cause of the power failure?
i mix
let me boot up scrutiny hold on
(truenas deleted all of my apps)
a multimeter
no
oh ok i have one. where would i place the prongs? and how would i test the current if i cant get power through it
if you are asking this question the answer is likely no
but like is anyhting else wrong? cpu cooler is fine?
resintalled, loaded backup, ix-applications dataset was no more
yea'
skill issue
can confirm, it is a skill issue
any b word wit hthe cpu/gpu
hello i have a 4050 i7 13th gebn gaming laptop and crash in valarunt sometimes with something like dc open i have 16 gigs of ddr4 would that be the reason becasause i think these specs are good enough for val and some side applications
NEW
[23:02]
could i get some help please
what kinda crash
valarunt would shut down or i would freeze
you would need to test it for the power, with the negative on the black cable, and the positive going around checking to see where it's not getting power, ultimately it's not going to be an easy fix for you
driver issues?
could it be oom?
i dont expect it to be lol. i wanna give it a shot before i think about just replacing the whole motherboard
do you use any optimizers?
wdym by optimisers
you mean the black cable going around the bottom of the internals?
i might have a problem
i think i found out why stuff was missing
i think its because i turned off smart
wdym by optimisers tho
why did you blur shit
🤷
how do you even do that
storage > disks > edit disk > uncheck smart
eh valorant might just be getting shat on by windows since kernal level anti cheat do be the shit
why would you wanna do that
spindown
i like my infinity celcius drives
do u think it is because i have 16 gigs of ddr4 or cause its gaming laptop overheating or only 6 gigs of vram any of those reasons possibly
no
also @tidal geyser is there any way that i am not utalising all my ram or all my v ram
but why dis shit
no
TF are you doing
VM with 8gb of ram, probably should shut that down
on the battery itself there's usually a couple red and couple black ones with the rest being different coloure, black should be the negative cables
why VM
shit software that doesnt exist on linux
also are you on fangtooth now?
nah, dragon something
oops wrong one, ElectricEel-24.10.2.1
oh wait fangtooth is out?
ew, core
no never
CORRECT i dont like it, but purely for storage its fine
hmmm tempted to move to fangtooth, whats new
core is kinda made to only be for storage
freebsd still has its benefits in that end
i know, thats why im using it
to be fair, true
can a 9070xt handle gtav 1440 with raytracing
ues
chat should i say fuck it and upgrade
its only a shitty windows machine
i have all the software configured better on my main pc, took me ages to setup but idc much about it
yolo
as long as it boots idc i can set it up again and was going to on an ssd anyways
fuck it.
"improved login experience" i hope so, bitwarden HATES the current one with a passion
that setting a certain ip for certain apps sounds nice though, and i saw the auto bridge network thing. took me ages to get that bridge network set up
it cant be too broken i can hear the drives spinning up
computer combusts
literally built it last week if that happens im leaving the country
i am extremely conflicted currently on what to do with my setup, i got a 2700x and a 3070 and the 2700x is starting to slow me down, now idk if i should get a 5800x (5700x3d is too expensive for me) or wait a while longer and do a major update to am5
just get a 5600
it will be a MASSIVE upgrade
The Amd Ryzen 7600x or the 9600x
also does this sound like a bottleneck
I’ve heard the 7600 is faster
well yeah but its am5
But uses more power then the 9600x
you know i was going to argue for having a use for those extra 2 cores since i use blender and other stuff like that but i have been exclusively gpu rendering for a while now
yeeeaa
anyways the r5 5600 cores will be way faster anyways
the r5 5600 should be faster then the r7 2700x by a small bit even tho it has less core outside of gaming
well, sim, i did it and im migrating to instances
yay
happy they finally removed spice js client
Hello, does anyone know of a windows app that can show what lanes yoir motherboard has? I acquired an optiplex 7010 and the dell board has little to no helpful info
eh?`?
you can just look at the slots
The board is e93839 la0601 btw.
Where on the slots would it say?
it will say PCIEy_x16 or something, with y being a number
it will say it around the slot, in white text
I'll try and find it
huh
what cpu
silkscreen markings
slot 1
Could check the manual
XD
They burnt out trying to penetrate my cerebrum because I was within a five kilometre radius
I3-3240
They literally can't transmit propaganda and extract my thoughts because I'm too smart
what are you trying to do
I tried to look for it, but I have struggled greatly in trying
What’s it called?
ffs
Mostly trying to learn what the lanes of the slots are. There are two x16 slots, but idk what their lane uses are
both slots are wired for x16 sooo i cant use the good ol trick
but why
im finding a 15% performance uplift in multicore, thats not really that much more
visual studio
No wonder it's ass
it doesnt matter though
eh for games at least it will be a MASSIVE uplift
top slot is just about always x16
I ultimately want to turn this into a network pc. I figure perhaps if the lanes are at least x4, I can put a PCIe to m.2 card onto it for additional storage (it is too slim for sata HDDs)
if its x4 then youll know because of how large the slot is
just get a actual thing
top slot is 100% x16
Slot length doesnt determine the available lanes for a pcie slot
its the most sure fire way apart fromthe manual
If you’re rocking a I3-3420 I’d assume it’s 3.0
I believe so
i would not
i am 80% sure top is x16 and bottom is x4
Isn’t that Lga1155?
That would probably be fine. I wonder if they have pcie cards that are small enough to fit in this 7010 case...
yes, low profile ones
Awesome. That would probably be perfect
lga 1155 aka what 3rd gen can use is a pcie 2.0 chipset motherboard thingy
Weird mine ran pcie 3.0
Guess that was a later addition
If able, I'll see about a 2x m.2 card for the top slot and a single for the bottom, but if there was a way to tell for sure what the bottom lanes use, I might have both be 2x if theyre at least 8 lanes each.
For clarification, is there a way via software to determine how many lanes a board has?
unless you plug something into it, no
I see. I tried CPU-z just now. Revealed a little but not that
but at that point just spend 50$ at a used workstation and use 2 HDDs for mas storage and some SSDs for caching or its own pool
I can probably work my way to that. For now it'll just be at home network drive
you do know what the price for a m.2 ssd is
if you want to throw yourself into the deep end then install truenas
40 bucks?
Varies per drive and brand I presume
most 1tb nvme drives are £100, 500gb £40-50
mostly bottom of the barrel shit
WD my beloved
huh??
Could reference the ssd tier list
talking rrp
i shouldve checked shouldnt i, havent looked at these prices in a while
what 3 years
yes
well uhm fair enough
last time i looked for one was the end of 2022
i hate when people ask whats the best cpu for x gpu, its just the best cpu you can afford
Time goes way to fast
tell me about it
ikr just get a 9800X3D for your 4060
genuinly
I remember when it was 2015… feels like yesterday
It’s raining 4090s
back when a freddo wasnt £1 😔
Wish I could pirate things outside of the digital world
thats called theft
Like stealing💡
so get a 3D printer
jarvis queue up a 5090 on the 3d printer for me
i can download a car
You wouldn’t download a tree
you wouldnt download a 5090
you mean, when it was 10p per freddo
well yes
tbf, the last time i got a freddo, it was a box of them for like £10
£1 for 5 in asda
do u guys think i can get £250 for a hp all in one with a ryzen 5 4500u, 8gb ram and 256gb ssd?
its in good condition, and there are some ryzen 3 models selling for £300
yes
k bet
when u sell on ebay do u have to pay tax on the earnings
cuz ebay now report to hmrc
i dono
it says when you put an item on sale
check the website, might be different depending on area
i think its only if you are over a certain amount, you can sell things that you already own like selling a wardrobe on vinted and be just fine i think
not legal advice, please check with google
not lawyer, just google
or talk to a solicitor
oh if the item sold is under £6000 then theres no tax
hands are hard to draw
if above then capital gains tax is owed
im pretty sure they take a cut
do you really need em
always are
especially from a full front perspective on paper
ebay UK removed the cut actually, thees only a cut on motor vehicels now
Sorry man i fell asleep
ebay also say they only make reports to HMRC if you sell more than £1700 or 30 items in a year
I've finally found it, https://www.hardware-corner.net/desktop-models/Dell-OptiPlex-7010-SFF/
PCIe 3.0 presumably 16 lanes, and PCIe 2.0 with 4 lanes
Assuming the motherboard is the same, at least...
hwinfo will give you a fair bit of info relating to this tbh
Ah, I was wondering about the names of the other app. I forgot about that one
I'll give this a shot as well
no problem lol
Nice
Legitimately hard to not rip those out of the socket when removing the cooler >.<
not really
just preheat and twist
what does the t mean
XT is just refresh
o ok
slightly better than X iirc
Turns out that heating a massive heatsink can prove difficult without a good heatgun and a lot of patience
for example
no you just run a benchmark on the cpu
o you can just do it in hwinfo, god damit
was this a good buy from aliexpress i got a aftermarketcoller with it and it will replace my ryzen 5 3600 this is a ryzen 7 5700x
eh its fine
lol no, and definitely not
another 2tb mx500 soon
how do i put thernal paste on my ram?
Just found that section
Does this mean that my x16 is gen2 and the x4 gen1?
pretty much
not really no
That is good. So if I were to put a couple gen 1/2 m.2's on there itll be fine?
eh, there isn't any gen 1/2 m.2's
I see. Would it be bad to underpower an m.2?
not bad persay, but what are you trying to do with the item?
I would like to make the optiplex into a network pc so I can connect to a local storage from any device within the network
so you want to turn it into a nas?
mini NAS yipee
Yea
would be better off using sata 2.5 ssd's tbh
I just popped my cooler off the thermal paste is only like 4 years old
I can believe it. I think there is enough space for another 1, but I am not sure. And the other one is the boot drive at 120gb
Perhaps if I use an underpowered m.2 as the boot drive and use 2 sata ssds as the nas drives?
you can use a sata expansion card and add more drives to it
@rigid fjord What should I test with the multimeter? What readings should I look for?
I would have to expand beyond the case for any further than 1 additional ssd
Though, this optiplex does have a nice, flat top.
not really, you can use some double sided foam tape and stick it to the case
Jank, I love it
Whats a good boot drive? Its gonna be used for just booting so 250gb or even 256 is good enough
I may do that
pretty much voltage drop from the batteries' initial output, and where you find no power flow
If just booting, honestly 120 should suffice. Nothing bad with 250 either
250-500gb is ideal for a boot drive
I'm not sure if the battery is causing the no power issue. It fails to run without it being plugged in. Normally there would be a status light that turns on with the battery unplugged
Any recommendations?
120gb drives aren't worth it
I was looking at the kingspec xg7000 512GB
What about the sata power connectors though? That might be limiting as there is only one other power plug in it, and it is right by the one plugged into the boot drive
Idk if its normal but i always have to set my ram to 3200mhz in bios instead of 2133
sn580, sn570, sn770, mp44l
the world is so fuckin beautiful
we dont deserve this shit 😭
sata power extension adapters, that convert 1 sata power to 4/5
as long as you get the right ones, no issues
Fascinating. What ones do you suggest?
ones like this, where they're clamped on the cable and not sealed to it
Gotcha gotcha. And for my own sake, what is an example of a bad one where it is sealed?
i love these
So curvy, not zig zaggy
this style, you can crimp/clamp on extra sata power connections if needs be/ shrink the cable down
clamped but the inital one is sealed, which if it's not been made correctly it can short out
So its ideal to get all clamped and none sealed
yup
Okay. And running several drives on a gen 1 or 2 pcie slot wont slow any of the drives down?
on a gen 2 slot it shouldn't, a gen 1 slot won't have enough bandwidth
Especially given its only x4
