AFAIK compressed filesystems usually don't do a very good job, and this is very good for read-only files.

Lazy-extraction systems like that are pretty common, Python actually has a system that allows you to import modules from within zip files without extracting the zip files, and dynamically too, which is INSANE

On problem PC, enable full crash dumps.
Might want to install windbg on another computer, then copy the crash dump files from the problem PC. Using windbg, you can usually see the faulty device, driver.
If it’s something random in each crashdump, possible RAM issue.
