AMD has lost market share in the GPU world every year for like the last 10+ years. Clearly “Nvidia -$50” isn’t working. AMD has been given a golden opportunity of circumstances where Nvidia has completely fucked up yet again. You can’t even buy most Nvidia cards new, and the ones you can buy might be crippled by missing ROP’s or catch on fire because of the 12VHPWR connector.

The worst thing AMD could do right now is maintain the status quo and launch the 9070XT and 9070 at $699 and $649 respectively. Their job right now is not to make money.

How much should the 9070XT and 9070 graphics cards cost? As little as possible for AMD to not loose money on them. AMD has a history of cards coming out, not selling well, and then immediately going on sale after a month. Instead of playing that game, AMD needs to just say “this is the price, no sales for at least 6 months.”

Also, they need to make sure they have the supply of the cards to meet market demand so they don’t end up looking like idiots when their cards start getting scalped just like Nvidia. They’ve delayed the 9070XT and 9070 launch a couple times now so they should have more than enough stock built up to meet demand.

If AMD fucks this up, in the future we will look back at this launch as the turning point from which AMD could never recover. If they succeed and do what’s right, we will look back on this moment and say “this is where AMD began their comeback era.”

If AMD launches the 9070XT and 9070 at $699/$649 they might as well just exit the GPU market after this generation and let Nvidia be a true monopoly.
