the thing about Tesla is that they have the best functionality of electric cars with the range and charging network and stuff.. but everything else like luxuriousness and quality is just eh.. like the normal car stuff that everyone else has nailed down

they’ve focused too much on the electric functionality it seems they just kinda put that to last lol

There are plenty of pictures online with doors and trunks not lining up to body panels.

Then there's issue with bumpers falling off.

#

And then we have a few dozen other issues related to Elon and the company itself.

OSHA violations are concerning as are the environmental issues related to their paint shops.

The future shouldn't come the cost of workers rights.

Tesla can do better for the prices they're selling at.

That leaves one in five Teslas with issues.

brittle totem

Our passat have issues with qualty to so its not just tesla but the diffrents is that vokkswagen want ous to pay to fix the qulaty issue tesla will fix them for free at delivery if you ask them. And tesla has improved alot over the past few years qualty wise. And you need to consider that tesla has only mass prodcuered cars since 2012 And most other manufactures have dont it for like 50 years. the Base model 3 was 35k for a while but is was an off menu so you needed to a phycal visit to tesla and ask for it but since 2020 the price has gone up bit becuse People are willing to buy them anyways so why would the charge 40k when they can charge 50k for the same car.

Because that's called gouging.

Nope they are paying for the best electric car for average driver. I am not stating that it has the best qualty or is most fun to drive but for daily driving it is one of the best if not the best electric cars . Here is list of the fastest electric cars on a 1000km road trip as you can se the model 3 is just 10 minutes slower then a kia plug in hybrid. Driving at the speed limit in norway.

He's built his valuation of himself on Tesla over the last decade.

The average driver doesn't go 600 miles a day.

Tesla's repair times are abysmal. As is their after warranty support.

#

Why would I ever get a Tesla when Toyota, Honda, and Subaru have local dealerships that can repair my car in a fraction of the time?

wraith rivet
#

because they don’t make as good electric cars

dense shard
#

Tesla Bjorn's channel is absolutely wonderful. But his experiences are damn near useless for me.

dense shard
#

The average driver just needs a car.

wraith rivet
#

some people only have 1 car so when they do drive 600 miles it better work good

dense shard
#

If some people have one car, they don't get an EV.

wraith rivet
#

it’s like the truck argument

dense shard
#

Especially in the North.

wraith rivet
#

“Why do you need a truck when you only use it 3 times a year to haul stuff?!??!?” it’s just nice to have

#

like the long range

#

I think Tesla should take some time off of making new batteries and motors and whatnot and just make a new interior for all the cars

dense shard
#

Tesla needs a new model for 3 of the 4 products they currently sell.

#

In fairly short order they'll be leapfrogged. Once the legacy automakers hit their stride, it's essentially game over.

brittle totem
#

So a tesla model 3 performance gets 438km of range in Norwegian winter and the polestar 2 gets 346km of range in the winter on dry roads compared to wet roads when he tested the model 3 perfoemce this go to show how much more efficient the tesla cars is compared to the competition and the Germans cars is even worse efficient wise. So they have a bit of catching up to do.

dense shard
#

4-6 year platform life cycles with a fairly substantial refresh every 2-3 years.

wraith rivet

what do you think doesn’t need a refresh?

dense shard

Model Y by virtue of being the newest.

wraith rivet

I thought plaid was the newest

dense shard

Also out of curiosity. Because you just posted two lines of something.

#

What's the ratings for Polestar vs. the Model 3?

eMPG or whatever.

Plaid is a refresh at best.

Same platform, updated interior. That's about it.

#

It's basically a Hellcat as far as I'm concerned.

wraith rivet
#

mmm

stoic ledge
#

Others are catching up tho

dense shard
stoic ledge
#

BMW is also doing some great efficiency numbers

dense shard
#

You can full well make the argument that a well designed platform can last a very long time.

#

The new Nissan Frontier for example is basically a heavy refresh of the original platform as is the new Z.

#

But reality is the competition hasn't moved that far over the last 15 years in those fields and Nissan didn't really need a new platform.

wraith rivet
#

I guess that’s the thing

#

the design of the body itself is just good.. if it ain’t broke don’t fix it I guess

stoic ledge
#

I'm curious for the new Stellantis EV, they're targeting 13kWh/100km which would be impressive

wraith rivet

aerodynamics wise anyways

dense shard

Stylistically the entire Tesla range is dull and not great imo.

dense shard
#

I do not trust Chrysler to build an EV that will run through a charge.

stoic ledge
#

Well "Stellantis" but basically PSA/Opel

wraith rivet
#

I personally think that more companies should be building phev cars

#

it’s the perfect balance

dense shard
#

Call me a redditor or a boomer, but I personally would like to see automakers do more HF style cars.

wraith rivet
#

fully electric for around town (where a massive majority of driving happens) and gas for extra range if you go on a trip or something

dense shard
#

Honda and GM did it over the years.

Basically a specific trim of a model that was designed around getting the best fuel efficiency possible.

stoic ledge
#

Chevrolet Cruze Eco

So engines tuned to use less gas, transmissions geared to be almost comical. Less features inside to reduce weight, and in some cases lighter materials in the body construction.

I'll go ahead and include the first gen Insight tbh.

I would love to see Toyota do it for the Corolla hatchback.

stoic ledge

Many European brands did that too tho... Volvo had DrivE, Ford had EcoNetic, VW Bluemotion/Skoda Greenline/Seat Ecomotive

Which is was recommend buy the company that sold the breaks to him. He should be thankful that tesla has build a such safe car that can handle a a crash at nearly 250km/h with just a seatbelt as a safety equipment. That just goes to show how safe the model s really is. The fact that he could walk out of the car himself without any help after a crash at such a speed is incredible. But who is the owner of that track that he used. They shouldn't even have let him on the track without any safety equipment while doing 170mph. We can do this entire discussion from yesterday again: DOT 3 should not come from the factory in a 1000+ hp car. Even the smallest, shittiest cars produced in the last 30 years have DOT 4. Using that in a 2000+ kg vehicle with top speeds over 250km/h is a recipe for disaster. The brake fluid already comes on after 2 times of hard braking. Ignoring such a notification isn't the smartest thing to do, and no I'm not claiming the driver is the smartest sprout alive.

It would've definitely helped to swap out the brake fluid on the recommendation of that company. However, Tesla probably cheaped out on the brake lines also, and DOT 4 can dissolve those rubber seals apparent in the system. Also, he shouldn't need to swap out anything of the brakes to begin with. He should've been able to use the stock brakes and brake fluids on the track

About the "he should be thankful that Tesla has build such a safe car that can handle a crash at nearly 250km/h"... The gravel slowed him down mostly, and the other forces were absorbed by the massive wall of tires. You can even see how much those shifted from the crash. Now, I'm not saying Tesla's aren't safe structurally: they've shown to be quite solid. But he mostly got it to thank whomever created that track with runoffs and tires: with a regular barrier it would've turned out quite differently.

Also, go to the Nurburgring: you can easily do 250+ km/h there without helmet, rolecage, harness etc. And people do that. Also see this video https://youtu.be/G44sKUme0Kw, although he did slow down after his brakes basically faded away/brake pedal didn't do anything anymore, he could push it all the way down with nothing happening, neither did the regen brakes (battery too hot) (got the overheating notification earlier)

No car, especially with 1000+hp, 2000+kg, and a freaking Track mode, should come with DOT 3. End of story

# stoic ledge We can do this entire discussion from yesterday again: DOT 3 should not come fro...

I know that the car should not have that fluied at stock but you cant say that the car should be able to go around a track att such a highspeed only becuse it can go 170mph does mean that you should and not how how he did it. He litterly puched it to it limits after the car said the breaks where overheated and then tries to blame tesla. And only becuse the car has "track mode" doesnt mean that car should be on track it like saying that everey car with sports mode is a sports car. And saying that the golf r is a race car only becuse it has a race mode. And he didint even check the the new breaks before he started to go 170mph he just hoped it would handle it with the stock break fluid on track. I hope he learns from all of this and next time know that he shoukd have some safty stuff in the car before going suck a high speed. And when tiu turn on "track mode" it litterly warns you about the break issue and says that you should check the breaks before puching the car 170mph stright into a cornor. But the fact that he tries to blame Tesla over his own misstakes says alot about him.

brittle totem
jovial mauve
#

aight so i have seen the video of the guy, but apart from the brakes failing this dude made all the wrong decisions and i would sat this crash is more on him then Tesla

#

That being said

#

if you sell a 1000hp car, like there has to be a adequate brake system there is a reason most fast heavy cars (s8+) come with carbons as standard and they dont even have a ''track mode''

#

i mean lets be real, he retrofitted the brakes himself had no roll cage, no helmet, no 5 point harness , missing rear seats (?) and boot etc

#

like this guy is very lukcy

brittle totem
# jovial mauve if you sell a 1000hp car, like there has to be a adequate brake system there is ...

I don't think that carbons is necessary for most plaid buyers. But they should have that as an option for those wo want to use it for tracks. But better breaks fluid should be standard and maybe brembro brakes like the model 3 and y performance has. And when it is in track mode and breaks goes overheated the car should be going in to limp mode so you cant push it to limits while the breaks are bad. So tesla has something to do to make it more safe while in track mode. But maybe it has this stuff but that guys cars is heavily modified so the safety things is probably removed anyways to save wight. But the fact that he first tries to drive the car under water and then think it is a good idea to use it as track car when he knows that it water damage on the car already. Can be one of the stupid's thing you can do.

jovial mauve
#

eh idk i think if you make a 1000hp car you just need better brakes as standard, carbons are also better even if you dont track but just like to drive sporty

stoic ledge

#

A way better braking system should be standard. And possibly ceramic brakes as an option.

#

And only becuse the car has "track mode" doesnt mean that car should be on track
Ngl imho that's very debatable, if it's not suited for track use they shouldn't call it "Track mode", they should call it "Very fast in a straight line without any brakes"-mode or something

I never said that the car was meant for the average driver the average driver doesn't care if the car can beat some hyper cars on a drag strip. That's why average driver probably will go for the long range model s if they are looking to buy a model s. You are not an average driver if you are planning to buy the plaid. I just said that the average plaid buyers doesn't track the car and if they are doing that I think they are smart enough to replace the break fluid before going to track and that was Tesla recommends if you want to track the car and even says that you should check the breaks before turning on track mode. I think that most people that actually likes to track their cars and wants sedans will probably not even consider a tesla and go for an e63 or an BMW m5.

@stoic ledge see, this is one of the reasons why I believe Tesla isn't as good as they can be, because their fanbase will block any form of criticism towards the company, which leads to them continuing with their bad practices

Or BMW can do a 234km/h that doesn't mean that you should do it because its not made to be stable at that speeds anyway. Same thing with the plaid. Its like driving a Koenigsegg at 400km/H on a track a try to take a corner at that speeds and then blame it on Koenigsegg that it could not handle a track at that speed but the car has an top speed of 400km/H.

We literally talked about a plaid that was crashed on track at 170mph. So yes we are talking about track usage and you should not drive that fast on track only becuse a car has an top speed of 200mph. When it it his own fault that he changed the breaks without doing it probably and then crashes the car at way to high speed for that car on a track.

brittle totem
# pearl tiger Yeah cuz electric sucks

Why do you think so have you ever driven one ? In my opinion i would take an electric car instead of diesel or patrol if it is a regular daily driver. But for sports cars ice is more superior right know because they are lighter and the sounds the make. But the instant acceleration of electrics car is so nice when you are overtaking on the highway. The most annoying thing with a gas car most be the lag that most ice cars makes when you want to floor them or overtake someone it takes like 1-2sec until it starts to pull because they need to down shift and all of that. And that's is actually the reason why the Koenigsegg Regera only has one gear because Christan von Koenigsegg wanted a ice powered car to have that electric car acceleration from his Tesla model s P85D but with the sounds from a twin turbo v8.

brittle totem
# dense shard I can travel anywhere in the state without worrying of being stranded.

If you have the ability to charge at home it should not be a problem but in the usa its a bit harder because tesla hasn't opened their charging network for all evs their yet. Here in Europe you can charge witch ever ev that supports dc fast charging at a tesla station right now. So you can travel trough the whole Europe with any worries as long as you have a car with at least 350km of range.

dense shard
#

Even with Tesla's network it's not enough.

#

There are 5 in the state I live in.

Every single one is along the interstate

brittle totem
# dense shard There are 5 in the state I live in.

You can still charge at home so for daily driving you don't need to go to fast charger. If you are not driving over the rated range every day but if you do so you should pass at least on fast charger on the way.

dense shard
#

That's the thing. places where I want to travel don't have any chargers within a same distance.

#

300 miles minimum.

#

Traveling to a few other interesting spots in the state means 200 miles one way. No chargers along the way.

EV are not ready to be used for everyone

dense shard

As a second car, an EV would be ideal. But in the colder bits of the US, EVs are far from ready.

#

Because in the dead of winter. That range gets cut what... 20-50%?

brittle totem
# dense shard Traveling to a few other interesting spots in the state means 200 miles one way....

Have you checked the non tesla charger to they should at least be one fast charger available. Here in sweden you can drive trough the whole country while only using the tesla network. I actually thought that the tesla network would have been better in the usa compared to northen Europe. Or is it just your state that is has a low amount of charger. You can even go trough the whole Europe even with a the lowest range teslas here. But thats not ideal but a model 3 standard range + should be fine range wise for everyone here.

dense shard
#

The network is okay if you exclusively stick to driving along interstates.

But there's more to life than the highway.

You don't need to do anything with the regular infotainment just install another "box" that has os with carplay on it. That's how we did it on our bmw so when you start the car upp its starts on the regular idrive that we haven't done any medication to at all. But wheen you hold the menu bottom for like 3 sec it goes to the other after market infotainment that has car play and android auto on it. and if you hoold the menu buttom down again it goes back to the regular idrive (BMW infotainment) like normal and if you but the car into reverse the backup camra pups up as it should. So it works like a BMW that has carplay/android auto from the factory but it actully retrofitted. Without any "hacking" into the BMW software.

What car is it ? on our bmw you can update the maps manually. And the car still has internet connectivity for stuff like traffic information. And it the point of interests is based on google so you can just search on the name off a restaurant and it will show up so you don't need to type in the specific address witch you need to do in our passat for some reason. But the navigation is still pretty complicated and slow and it looks a bit outdated because the car from 2015. But you can probably get an apple carplay/android auto box for your car like we did for our bmw. Witch make the whole infotainment feel new again because carplay/android auto updates with the phone so it always gets better overtime and will always look modern.

My dad has is Passat as a work car in Sweden and he need to pay like 350$ in extra taxes to be able to drive it privately every month. That still super cheap comparing to owning a similar car privately. But on "performance" our cars with a big engine the tax increases by a lot we where looking at a Cupra formentor first because the price was the same as the Passat that we wanted but that extra tax for him would have been like 900$ instead.

Here in Sweden the person that get an car trough their company. Only pays an extra tax every month if they want to use it privately but the company pays the rest including insurance and service and sometimes even the gas or diesel. But if they do that you need to pay an a bit of tax for every 10km you drive but its way lower then the current gas prices anyway. So having a car trough your company is way less expensive then buying it privately. As long as it is not a performance car then its cheaper to own it privately. And is electric car is super cheap to. But my dad hade an outdated policy when we got our Passat last year so we the car could just cost 45k at the most. So I have the chance to trade my fully loaded truck for a Subaru WRX STI that has roughly 7k in performance mods done to it. I always dreamed of owning a car of that nature (not exactly a subi but still). Should I do it?

#

The dealership that is selling it has no clue what they have. I just knew what to look for and after the test drive I knew this car was no where near stock. It is easily pushing close to 500hp.

#

Trans but its not a big issue - well the trans in general is a big issue, but you can paddle around it by pressing clutch and shift first -> neutral, release clutch, press clutch again and shift from neutral into reverse

#

Anti theft feature 👀

#

Pretty much all common issues of an up are something with the trans, but well there isn't much more on that car

#

Also, are you going to use it as your daily? Take in consideration that with the rising fuel prices, running a 500hp daily might increase your expenses quite a bit (depending how you drive ofc, but can't see someone drive a tuned car without enjoying it quite often)

lucid hinge
#

It is a standard with a stage 2 or 3 clutch (I can't remember). Trans and clutch feels really good.

#

It does come with some goodies. He was planning on re-painting the car until he was transferred to another state. So it comes with all the paint I would need. It comes with a second trunk lid. He didn't like the wing so he purchased a second paint matched trunk with no wing.

#

...I think this might be the time to enjoy them while they are still here you know 🙂

#

I agree. And with that lineup being discontinued here in 2023 it may shoot up in price.

Ye

civic spoke

The old FMX that I have likes to reset back to like 8 kmh overspeed.

Which is still too much for me. I like the truck slowing down to keep the speed, instead of going above.

#

It's probably worse for you, driving trailers. Since you're only allowed to go 80 kmh.

fathom socket
#

I was going downhill 91 kmh with cruise set to 80 with overspeed of 2

#

With volvo it keeps it at 90 kmh with overspeed of 2 when cruise is set to 88kmh

civic spoke
#

Yeah. That's nice. If you set it to a +2 overspeed. Then that's what it should limit itself to.
